I usually run the game at 30+ FPS, but whenever I enter these VERY specific areas, my FPS instantly drops to 5-10. Reproducing is easy. Just go there

Tribulation Rift jumping puzzle: The area is much, much, smaller than Bandithaunt Caverns. This only takes place in the area where players must fight the Earth Elemental and his minions. The elemental himself has no impact on FPS. I go from ~50 FPS to ~10 in the specific area in front of me, and it immediately gets fixed when I leave. In the screenshot, I am standing at the line between good and bad FPS. A few steps in front of my me my FPS drops.

If there are any players that have this kind of problem in any specific area, post here and I will add your post to the OP! Remember: the issue isn’t about generally low FPS, but only in very specific areas!

Arenanet has done a wonderful job of adding these fine references to the game without breaking theme! Grats to whoever thought about these and many thanks for adding them

I thought we should compile all the references to pop culture / other video games we have found so far. My favorite ones are the video game references and I always enjoy recognizing them. I’ve stumbled across quite a few, but I can only remember a few of them right now. I’ll edit the OP with any relevant references others will bring as well.

Videogame references
Half-Life: Asura Gate Harmonizing Crystal sold by a Golem Karma vendor (Metrica Province) is a reference to the very first episode of the game. (also in the item description, but I don’t have access to that atm)
Fallout 3: Priory Wilderness Survival Guide sold by Magister Roslin (Dredgehaunt Cliffs) – “It’s not easy out here. There’s probably something in here that could save your life” – the same as the Wilderness Survival Guide that you help Moira write in Fallout 3.
Monkey Island: During the Order of Whispers quest "The Sad Tale of the “Ravenous”, players engage in an insult pirate fight There is no rhyme, unfortunately.
Borderlands: There are at least two different dredge chests which open exactly like the iconic loot chests in Borderlands.

Real people references
Daniel Dociu – I believe the Dociu excavation in Dredgehaunt Cliffs to be a reference to Daniel Dociu, Art Director and Concept Artist for ArenaNet (also Father Grigori). Not only because of the name, but also because in the northern part of Dredgehaunt Cliffs I saw a “painting” in one of the lodges that contains concept art, which I think I’ve seen in mr. Dociu’s portfolio.
Machine Gun Kelly – Chaingun Kelly is an NPC in one of the Human Personal Story quests.

Pop culture references
Dragon Ball Z – There’s a Golem that players must fight called OVR-9000 in the “Short Fuse” Asuran storyline.
Captain Planet – Metrica Province – Golems are named WTR, FIR, AER, ERTH , HRT and a huge golem called WST (waste) All the smaller ones fuse together to fight him.
Where’s Waldo? – Waldo Flood is a NPC located in Kessex Hills. He is hidden behind a tree.
Dexter (TV show) – There’s a tombstone in Fields of Ruin reading: “Morgan Decker – The final victim of the Oxcart Killer”

What the hell is it with these “simple” hammer suggests that keep popping up. The hammer doesn’t need any kitten changes. The weapons is extremely fun since they’ve added a leap to Smite. It’s supposed to be slow and powerful. Leave it be already.

Are you SERIOUSLY suggesting that they remove the hammer’s ability to perform one of it’s 2 Area Retaliation combos? The only thing that makes retaliation builds viable? Have you given this ANY thought before starting your thread? 0/10 apply yourself

Devs envisioned Scepter as our long range option, but I really can’t see why. Smite is most effective when it’s used in melee range against melee characters. It’s a very offensive defense against them. If you use it against ranged, you better have your immobilize ready.

Hello, I thought it might be helpful to share this problem I’m having.

I usually run GW2 at 45-50 FPS (which is amazing, and I’m grateful for it – my laptop is a heap of junk, and back in beta my FPS was never over 15. You guys did an amazing job!).

However my FPS decreases to 30-35 when I am looking at fire (simply moving the camera fixes the issue). At first I thought this is because of that awesome looking distortion effect that I can see when animations are set to Medium or Higher, but testing it with animations set to low have revealed that that effect is not the issue – even without it my FPS drops by the same amount. I have tried lowering the setting but this happens with all possible settings.

The game remains playable (which is great), but there are a lot of fires in WvW and that’s where my FPS greatly suffers. I hope you guys can find a fix for this.

I have included a screenshot with a good location to test this and my usual graphical settings and my dxdiag.

I have reproduced the bug Tim mentioned by accident last night, in Twilight Arbor. I thought it was weird that I had Block block block block spam on my screen about 8 times, but I thought it was just a visual bug so I went on my way. I did in fact have Retreat in my build during the time, but I can’t remember if I used Virtue of Courage or Retreat when it happened. Can’t remember what mob it happened against.

LE: I have just tested this on a Golem using their submachine gun attack. I’ve used Virtue of Courage just before the attack started but this didn’t happen. Tim, can you suggest any mobs that have a channel attack like you describe? AC necromancer lifesteal comes to mind but I can’t find any group for that atm

And the sets themselves look horrible. What’s even weirder is that you get a helmet for every story mode dungeon you do, they could have at least given players a different part after each dungeon lol. I know I wouldn’t spend my explorable mode tokens on that ugly set

To be honest, I don’t remember what happened when I have first joined an Order (that character is deleted now). I have joined Vigil as my first order, and it is possible that the banner appeared immediately after I have Protected Queen Jennah from the undead attack, so the first mission after accepting to be part of the order.

No, man. I was downed, and almost defeated (one or two more ticks until death). My friend’s Signet of Mercy brought my downed HP bar up, to around 70% but I have remained downed until someone came and manually revived me.

Yes. Sorry for the confusion. Also, he didn’t pre-cast while I was still alive. We were fighting the spiders, I was inside the poison clouds, downed.

PS: No offense, but because this thread is a sticky doesn’t make you the God of bugging. Add an “unsure” section to it if bugs “take too much time” to reproduce, this is THE thread people are using the report Guardian bugs. Me and many others spend time trying to reproduce bugs before bringing them here. This bug exists, it happened, and if you try to ressurect a player while he’s poisoned with Signet of Mercy when he’s very close to death you’ll see it happen too. This is something devs should see. I understand you don’t want to waste their time, but they do have a testing crew specifically for these things. Let’s not keep bugs hidden because they’re hard to reproduce.

I’ve tried signet of mercy on a defeated player and it didn’t work. Someone else tried it on me while I was defeated and nothing happened while he was right next to me.

My beef is with the cast time, the rest feels OK. As a Guardian my friends don’t die much anyway. But it’s hard to get an effective use out of it, you’re probably better off just CCing and reviving yourself.

I’d like to ask you guys as well to test Signet of Mercy. Today I was in TA with a friend, fighting Brangoire. While I was at very low HP and Poisoned, he used Signet of Mercy on me and I got a huge burst of healing (I got up to 70% of my downed HP bar) but was not revived.

*Sword/Mace: (…) Outnumbered? Use mace. Thin them out. Switch to Sword. Or use Sword to close distance and apply blind. Use the blind time to switch to mace and drop your Symbol. Their next attack misses, and you block their second attack (and that of their friends) with Protector’s Strike. (…)

^This is false. The enemy may miss because of blind, but for the second attack you only block one enemies’ attack, not all of them. Meaning the rest of you can still hit you.

*Mace + Focus: You didn’t even mention the condition removal which is half the point of 4, you don’t need to stack regen as it only stacks in duration. Using 4 for that is a waste. Your allies can live for 4 secs without regen.

*Signet of mercy doesn’t revive dead targets, only downed ones. And it’s not even a full revive, it’s just a very large heal that targets downed players. If the player is poisoned and at very low health, he won’t be resurrected, merely healed.

*You’re actually encouraging Judge’s Intervention as a gap closer, which is incredibly bad in PvP. It’s usually the only stun-breaker in someone’s skill bar, are you really suggesting that they blow it for 1,200 distance covered?

I didn’t read it until the end, because the jokes are extraordinarily tiresome for a guide that’s already artificially lengthened by pointless remarks. To be fair, there’s no reason to ever include such basic information as what every skill does, only tips and tricks for them. People can read tooltips, and the whole chapter is pointless.

I’ve read this before but ignored it since it wasn’t a sticky and unlikely to get anyone killed, but you might want to review it now. And trim it. I doubt anyone would rather spend 30 minutes reading tiresome jokes about their class instead of just playing it.

I have tested this a lot and not even bolts have 600 range. Many times I have seen bolts simply pass through enemies and miss. It’s bugged.

I’ve had the same issue as states in the OP, as well as not being able to see my available gems and being unable to sell any items (empty sell tab, with “…” being written instead of gem number).

Updating root certs has fixed it for me.

Engineer level 46, full level 45 crafted set of armor and weapons, minor sigil of the engineer x2, marks / jewels in the rest, level appropiate green pistol with sigil of corruption, shield. Usually I play with mine – FT – Elixir R – Supply drop and I’ve exchanged FT with grenade kit for this one since destroyers are immune to burning.

I usually do the story missions 1 level or more under since I like the extra challenge. But this time there were WAY too many destroyers accompanying the Queen. I think it was actually a bug, since the ones I didn’t manage to kill during the initial attack didn’t go away when the Queen appeared. So I had to fight 3-5 Destroyer Trolls, 2-3 D Harpies and lots of crabs. The AoE being thrown around was insane. What’s worse, I as soon as Destroyers got close to me I got burned which was bullkitten, even with throw Elixir R under my feet I still got burns because it didn’t clear fast enough. 4 dodges and all my control weren’t enough to keep them all away from me long enough for even one mob to die. I died about 6 times.

The Destroyer mobs were level 47-48, but that wouldn’t have been a problem if there weren’t so many at the same time. There were 3 D Trolls near the entrance that I could kill at the same time without any problems, but downstairs it was simply hell. The Queen was level 50 but surprisingly she was the weakest mob in the group. She basically died from all the AoE I was throwing at the minions. By the time the last destroyer crab hit the dirt the Queen was at 15% HP.

The allied NPCs were of course, as usual, completely useless. Tybalt died instantly and couldn’t be revived without aggroing.

It applies to both aegis and shelter. It’s crap damage and duration though, not worth the trait point. Even if I do specialize in burning I avoid it, a ~1s low damage burn isn’t worth the trait point.

You can get the tier 1 items for any race as low level drops; most of them are 1s max at the trading post. I haven’t seen tier 2 as drops, but some of the tier 3 items I’ve seen. I got the Adamant Shield (tier 3 Charr shield) in Fields of Ruin. That’s 63k worth of karma in one drop.

I don’t think this is intended. Why would anyone ever spend 9,800 karma on tier 1 when they could buy the same for 1s?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the healing nerf on Shelter went too far. A 2s block can mean everything or nothing, and although it is very useful against multiple enemies or rapid attacks, it’s next to useless against slow, high damage enemies. It will probably block 1 attack, which is something aegis / dodge / mace / knockback / blind will achieve. If all that fails, there’s the invul elite which also recharges virtues. I see no reason to take this over Signet of Resolve. Should I even mention how weak it is against condition spam?

If it were 1 second block and higher heal, it would be fine. As it is now, no thanks.

Guardians generally suffer from lack of diversity in builds. Right now there’s no reason to ever go outside of at least 15 radiance and 10 zeal for the OP recharge on Virtue of Justice and blind that goes with it and +10% damage against burning enemies (which is all the time, unless they’re dead).

Hi. I would like to leave my personal feedback here. I thought it would be amusing to read people whine about personal story being too hard. It’s not.

I have played GW1 when it released and it’s safe to say that anyone that has ever played Prophecies campaign could never complain about GW2. But I understand not all players are used to that level of difficulty (sometimes it was hard for me).

However I also know what apart from some quests which were clearly broken (I have reported them and they have been fixed), the rest of the personal story fits the usual difficulty of the game and mirrors the expectations the game has for it’s players – know how to push buttons. That’s it. I simply don’t get how people can get confused about these quests – especially at low levels. Someone explain to me, please, how it is wrong for the game to demand that you know how to handle multiple enemies when that is what you will be doing most of the game.

I don’t expect new players to know that they can perform combos by themselves, eat food, have a balanced build (stun breaker, condition removal, some form of mitigation, etc). Luckily, neither do most personal quests before level 20.

I remember back in GW1 how advancing through the campaign was virtually impossible until you had a correct build and a plan. Later in the game, many ever required a good party. I have enjoyed those quests immensely, especially the Stealth based ones. I hope you don’t rob us of these experiences because of a vocal minority of “bad” players.

I have a few players in my guild that constantly need help with their personal story and complain that it’s impossible. Even though I explain the mechanics to them they still fail. They have problems with: Golems (silly asuras can’t drive a golem), which admittedly are VERY clunky and annoying to use – moreover, the game doesn’t tell them that they CAN dodge, and there is no animation to tell players that they are indeed evading attacks, just the lowered endurance; many players don’t switch weapons. Either the ones currently in hand or the ones currently equipped. I know a lot of people that find a favorite weapon and stick with it until the end of time. I have a lvl 60 ranger in my guild who has never touched a greatsword. While this is fine in many cases, sometimes you see a huge wave a mobs approaching you need to get some defense on and change your equipment.

There are of course some issues that specific classes have (I think the game needs to better teach rangers that they should use tank pets when soloing, for example, and that squishies need to be taught that they will die unless they CC), but I think the focus should be on fixing those and teaching players how to play via the in-game client (can’t expect all of them to read posts here), rather than lowering difficulty. I was thinking that more tips could be introduced during first few personal story missions. Unfortunately, many players don’t read tips at all. I think it’s safe to call those bad and move on with our lives

Not the best title, but I can’t think of anything better.

This issue occurs on both Engineer and Guardian, they are the only ones I have tested. It is much easier to reproduce this on Engineer.

Engineer: Shield Block (5): If you press 5 to throw the shield just before an enemy attacks you, you will both stun the enemy and throw the shield. This happens when you block during the Throw Shield animation (but does require a bit of timing).
Guardian: Getting attacked exactly when Protector’s Strike ends (mace 3 skill), you will both block the attack and get protection. The block will not explode or deal any damage. I have tested this without aegis. (cleared aegis, then used Virtue of Courage and got rid of that Aegis as well). This is tedious to test on Guardian, as you must time it just right. I have been testing it on Dolyaks in the field and a friend has been doing it on golems in the mists.

It’s nothing game breaking on Guardian, but I always exploit this on Engineer to get 3 stacks of Defiant off Champion mobs with a single skill. So it’s very reliable.

I’m glad to see someone else taking interest in this I think it’s a much needed addition to the game. If someone reads please, please share your thoughts. This thread gets buried instantly, it’s currently a day old and has ~35 views. The number of suggestion threads is very high, but I think this suggestion should at least be seen by the developers if not acted upon.

I never use it, it’s horribly boring and using it in general PvE is just press 1 once, then immobilize, then press 2 and 1 again until your target is dead. Rinse and repeat for every single mob out there. At least others are more bearable with their combo and skills that actually require attention from your part (blocking, gap closer, symbol).

Other weapons are fun because they move your position, or the position of your target, or have an interesting mechanic (the blocks on mace and sword are very neat). Scepter is very soulless with it’s immobilize. I think the immobilize should remain, but Smite and 1 should be redesigned. This weapon is supposed to be the Guardian’s high range weapon, and even if it does have 1200 range it doesn’t look or feel like a high range weapon. I’m stuck with using this crappy weapon in WvW and that annoys me to no end. It does indeed feel like a peashooter.

If you’re going to make a chain, I suggest making the 3rd attack slower (as in, longer cast time, not slower projectile) and burn the enemy. This way we’d have stacking burns from the weapon and Virtue of Justice (both active and passive). The scepter used to be the go-to weapon for condition damage on Guardian, but since 1 was redesigned that was gone. Maybe it’s time to bring it back

To everyone suggesting “other classes” or “other weapons”, you’re useless. We’re talking about the scepter. Thank God you were here to tell us we can switch to other weapons, we couldn’t figure that one out for ourselves.

I was able to use skills normally (although I didn’t have attack animations). Other players saw me as a Moa as well (I have asked).

I felt it was my duty to report this, but please, for the love of God, don’t fix this I laughed very hard blasting things with a terminator Moa.

(I haven’t tested any other transformations).

Sigh…can’t we just go with “every weapon ever clips with every armor ever”? Ignoring bows and rifles, that’s pretty much the case. Fine, I’ll report what I can.

I’m a Human Male, wearing the Gladiator heavy set (crafted with 125 requirement bought recipes). Most weapons sold by the Durmand Priory clips with armor.

Severe clipping: pistols, focus, mace, sword, shield, torch, warhorn, dagger, axe, scepter
Light clipping: staff, trident, harpoon (small parts going through the shoulderpads)
No clipping: rifle, longbow, shortbow

I hope you can fix these problems. Clipping in 2012. Shamefur dispray. etcetc

Blocking / Blind bug

Lately blocking only blocks the damage from (at least some) attacks. Even though the attack is blocked, conditions are still applied to the player. I have been testing this as a guardian, with all types of blocks; here is the easiest way to reproduce:

-Attack a bear (or any mob with Maul). Block his Maul or Blind the mob before it attacks. Even though the attack missed / has been blocked, you will get bleed stacks.
-Attack a spider. Block or Blind before their poison attack. You will still get poisoned.

I have tried blocking with Protector’s Strike, Shield of Wrath and Aegis. Same effect. I have not tested this on any other class.

I would also like to add that it’s also possible not to add a circle with the player in the middle for skill range, as if we do see blue / red range/radius circle even with fast-cast ground targeting enabled, we can just hold down the skill key until it turns green. So that’s one less circle to worry about

That range circle however would be useful when showing skill range when the mouse cursor is viewing the skill tooltip from the skill bar. (much like in LoL)

I agree that this needs to be removed. Games that differentiate teams by color do it for their own reasons. Usually it’s because the teams are different, or for lore reasons. No one is looking at player color in serious games, that takes way too long. Uniforms in war (camo excluded) exist for friendlies, not for enemies. Since there’s no friendly fire, no need for this.

Guardians have lower base HP but the regeneration from Virtue of Resolve makes up for it. It all else fails, the heal from it as well. Don’t even need to mention all the other sources of regeneration the class has free access to. At the end of the day, you’ll have around the same amount of hit points to spend, probably more.

have you not rolled a warrior and seen how much regen their healing signet gives them?

Your point being? A guardian doesn’t use up a slot for it.

@Apraxas I have reached that conclusion through testing myself. I do however say that the range is not 600 for the bolts. I kept testing this, and I think I’ve used the skill about 60 times in 400 range now. Bolts fly through enemies and miss.

Need some help understanding the bug. Are you talking about the 9x hits range or just the bolts that fly around?, i tested and the range of the big damage spin is the same as auto attacks and i was able to hit all targets in a 360 degree circle from me that where in that range.

Sorry I’m testing stuff first before adding but i need to understand clearly to explain the bug as much as possible in the least amount of characters.

Hey, I’m not sure how you can hit things with it, all my attacks from it simply miss if the target is not in melee range. I’m assuming that bolts should be hitting in a circle around your character in a 600 range radius, but every time I use the skill and my target isn’t very close to me I deal no damage to it. I need to test it more when mobs are at my sides, but it’s clear that there’s something wrong with the skill for mobs in front of me.

I don’t know if there is more than one component to the skill. I have assumed that ‘bolts’ and ‘9x hits’ had the same range. If it isn’t so, the tooltip should be changed. It’s pretty confusing as it is now, as the skill is useless for damage when the enemy is at range. I will try to record this, but I’m on a low-end laptop and I’m not sure I can handle Fraps.

LE: I was playing Engineer atm but I will now log in my Guardian to further test this.

LE2: I’m done testing. Here’s how to reproduce: go into 600 range (your Leap skill has 600 range). Use Whirlling Wrath. All your attacks now miss I have seen a stray bolt go right through the enemy and Miss, so it’s about bolts too not just the 9x hits.

As I go closer it still misses all the time until 130 range, with only bolts hitting at a bit higher range (250ish) – so the bolts aren’t just visual. They must actually hit the target, but their range is clearly bugged. The 9x hits are 130 range indeed. After further testing the direction I’m facing doesn’t matter. It still misses. Disregard that part, I will edit it out of my original post to prevent confusion.

I think I remember a developer saying once that the bolts are purely visual and that the skill should actually hit everything in a circle. Right now it’s stupid to say the skill has a “range” when even at 200ish range you only 1 enemy with 1 bolt doing very low damage. And I’m pretty sure they aren’t there for random condition removal either

Right now, the only way you can see the radius of AoE skills is to disable fast-cast ground targeting (which is something most serious players will never do in most situations).

I know there are devs in the team that have played (or at least know) League of Legends. That game had smart-casting, but there was an option to also show you the radius and range of all your attacks:
i. when you hovered your mouse over the skill in the skill bar
ii. when you held down the skill button but didn’t release it
iii. it shortly flashed the radius and range when you used the skill

I think this system will fit GW2 as well. At least, I would like to see the green / red targeting circles that players see when they disable fast-cast ground targeting in the same situation that LoL shows them.

I find it very annoying that I need to ‘guess’ what the maximum range of my skills is in the actual field (in LoL, this was a blueish circle with your character in the center) and my grenades and mines will end up or if they will catch the enemy in their radius. You can see all this if you disable fast-cast ground targeting.

One moment when having the good ol’ green / red range circle is crucial: when trying to land the Engineer’s rifle leap precisely at one spot. I use this a lot during jumping puzzles, where you need to jump on narrow branches / small rocks / etc. Using the small circle in the range / radius indicator will get you in the correct position all the time, in contrast with trying this with fast-cast ground targeting enabled, which will probably get you killed.

Also, right now players have to ‘guess’ what the radius of their mine explosion is. When an Engineer throws a mine (or a ranger his trap) he will see the detection range of the enemy. However, for mine at least, you can choose to detonate it early and the radius is much bigger (even much, much bigger when traited) so it will hit the enemy before he walks on it. Players have to guess just how large that radius is, and right now even I am not sure what the maximum radius actually is.

Showing this to players should also be an option, and a Mine should show 2 circles : the white one for detection and a lower profile light blue one (or whatever color you choose) for the explosion radius. This should be a separate option. Some players don’t need or don’t care about this, and I doubt they will appreciate the “circle spam”.

Personal feedback: I have enabled fast-cast ground targeting since day one. Just like in LoL, it has sped up my reaction time by a lot. However, unlike in LoL, I must live with some disadvantages because of that.

Yes please. I just wanted to suggest this. It’s incredibly frustrating, either you learn to live without auto target (which is annoying, to be honest, given GW2’s dynamic combat) or be bad at the game. I don’t like either choice and this suggestion would fix it.

This functionality is crucial for certain skills but unfortunate for others. As a Flamethrower engineer I absolutely hate it. As an Elixir Gun engineer, I find it amazingly useful (and much needed for clearing conditions off allies). As a Torch Guardian, I wish the weapon had this functionality for clearing conditions.

My suggestion? Add it to torch as well and leave it the way it is. Learn to target
