I imagine so as macs cost thrice a PC to begin with! Sure macs may be 10%-20% of the personal computer community last I checked but if they look at it in revenue then Macs generate far more than that 10-20% easily! I hazard to suspect the average mac user has more disposable income than a windows user, I’m not one of them sadly at least not yet ^^ Hope we get a proper client I been on this ‘beta’ nearly a year now, for the most part it’s been a blast
I’m having the same issues as listed with everyone else.
Also, it’s probably gratuitous to say this, but the fact is this issue should not BE an issue if you’d just make this NATIVE TO MAC instead of running Cider and dealing with all these insane little issues that pop up every couple of days. Not to mention the real fact that we’ve been getting bent over just trying to load the BLTC anyway! It loads less than half the time even before this little dose of stupidity.
Best suggestion and is common sense one would have thought, a little compensation would be nice yes if it persists for long. Will check back tomorrow to see if they’ve fixed this.
Trading post worked fine for me all the way up till last night. Got up this morning and it’s borked again – the FUNCTIONAL UI parts (form fields, controls) show up (i.e. the basic web app parts), but all the “overlay” stuff (thematic icons etc) do not, and the controls that do show up don’t work.
Same it started last night for me and sadly 25hrs has not resulted in a fix. Am glad I bought the sale items I could afford but for sure I will not be doing any activities that fills a lot of slots till I can sell again! I’ve been quite lucky overall many of the mac issues I escaped unscathed but not this time, how on earth has this bug happened there has been no new builds! The BLTP is the best and worst trading UI I’ve witnessed in any game, great you can use it anywhere but the reliability of it has always been poor! Wasn’t it at their first birthday where they were congratulating themselves for their accolades to the world of gaming that the tp went down for many hours haha!
I have tried submitting a bug report but haha that even doesn’t work for me now! I suggest Anet makes a better tp system that isn’t fragmented, it clearly is as you can load some parts but have others not load, very frustrating. I won’t bother with the Windows client, if they don’t fix these issues I will give up on the game altogether than continue as a windows user, the point of this game was that it was Mac supported, albeit shoddily in recent months!
I hope April 15th fixes many problems but I am not optimistic and fear it will open the floodgates for more, let’s hope I’m wrong!
Yes the pointer is a bit out of alignment with the tp now I find, is a little hard to click at the very last digit of the copper price box at least for me, I tried changing res and interface size to no avail, at first I thought the error was from minimise and remaximising the client (for an older mmo changing sizes can affect the GUI at least before a relog) but nope no joy. At least Living story is over I hope Anet will use this time to fix many issues, at the very least the Lion’s Arch events on the whole ran better than Scarlet’s marionette for me.
Other than the bugs that’s been a plague to the TP since beta, I just started to get this one two days ago (notice how the silver and copper is listed on the right under “Add to my lowest listing” = above each other). It’s really annoying, and I wonder what made this change happen? Anyone else see this?
Same issue around same time, I reported it no fix so far. Tried changing screen resolution but no effect, tried changing interface size too also no use. Very strange error… Is a cosmetic issue even so is irritating!
A bigger issue which is intermittent is a tp that gets stuck in limbo (is an oddity to have a fully functioning tp where ALL tabs work lol) anyway a french lady said changing language settings can fix it sometimes, it sometimes does but often doesn’t for me, shutting down the client completely and restarting it tends to work at least.

Slain Scarlet Briar, she troubled us for the best part of a year so it’s fitting she suffers a terrible end! (Mini Gnashblade happened to be around)
Well I still don’t agree it’s just a Mac issue in that there are Windows users also with problems even on high end tech. However I may be inclined to believe it’s hurt mac users more as a whole, I’ve been quite lucky it seems. While the fps readings are lower than usual I can’t say it’s impacted my experience too bad if anything the game’s running smoother in LA, WvW, well anywhere minus that horrid Scarlet Marionette event so the client is far from broken for me. I’ve had the game run better than many windows users and that swtor game even (which is a windows only game, using bootcamp ofc) in the past on a macbook pro 8.1 that is a fraction the power of the custom computers people tend to be using these days.
Is anyone still using OS X 10.7, Lion? If not perhaps Lion is less affected with this recent debacle? Oh regarding frames, I have a theory perhaps the client’s readings may be wrong, they’re certainly erratic at times too (Not that I have super perception that I can see all dozens of frames each second) but if my game truly was running at 10 or less fps it would look very choppy yet it doesn’t. I tried lowering my graphics on another game (Star Conflict) which also has a mac beta, every mac user I heard in that game says it runs great on OS X. Anyway, my fps there is 20 or less usually, with lower graphics it more than doubled however the game didn’t look right at all it played too fast! So my conclusion is to not focus too much on the fps readings, unless of course it’s very clunky when trying to play. Well off to face the marionette the last time or two, perhaps by some miracle it will run smooth ironically at the 11th hour…
Hope tomorrow’s update fixes the problems many of us are experiencing! All the best my fellow mac users!
(About fps, ping and lag, back then changing my graphics settings had a very visible effect on my fps so I could assume then the client was working well as was the servers. Recently as one person said low or high yields little difference at all lately so makes me think the problem is either the server’s problem or the client rather than my system) Lower settings would still help naturally just isn’t the fix it once was, models take ages to load for many players regardless of OS though it seems to have improved recently so it hasn’t been all doom and gloom. We’ll see soon!
I’ve asked around many windows users experience issues too. I’m on a MBP myself got this april last year for a good price, overall it’s been good but the game’s suffered as a whole regardless of OS since after Scarlet appeared. The invisible UI bugs crept in then for me and is very apparent during the Marionette, Tequatl, wvw etc… The game is still playable though so I’ve been lucky it sounds. My MBP isn’t the most current, is 8.1 (late 2011) 13" 2.4ghz with 4g ram.
I do have bootcamp set up, was far easier than I expected but I’d rather stick to mac clients now since I started this, I tolerated using windows 7 for swtor but this game is (or was) far superior, last time I checked swtor it’s sadly become more stable than this game!
Well I’d love to have macs with the specs many of the users here have. I run the game currently in mixed settings, some stuff on high others low others mid though I’ve had to tweak it accordingly (Not that it makes a difference now seems the client’s just not up to par last few weeks) I need low settings for the fast paced jumping puzzles but zerging and most other activities I live and die like other windows users.
Haven’t had too many disconnection problems this week but the trading post has always been volatile for me, it did go down for maintenance last week for some hours…
I’ve asked around and many players have issues too so I don’t think it’s just an OS X issue though as we’re still playing on a beta client we’re probably disadvantaged further. My frame rates are never that high unless on poor settings, yesterday it actually was running nicely for a time at least before Far Shiverpeaks blobbed us but that’s to be expected… However I must state Marionette still runs poorly especially the warden battles, it can run as well as a mass of npcs attacking can be expected and then things go pear shaped, invisible UIs, npcs, bombs and aoes…. (Well the Marionette event was poorly made from the start)
Just my two cents it’s not specifically an OS X issue, the game is still playable on my macbook but certainly I’ve noticed things have gone downhill since after the Jubilee. WvW ran very well during season for me, much better than usual anyway zergs could run all over and I didn’t get crashes or exceptionally low frame rates to make it unplayable. LA has been running faster since wintersday ended at least but it would seem the game can’t be 100% at any time, if one thing works good something else bugs, the TP especially has never been stable.
Well I refuse to get this on windows I have bootcamp set up but argh, the joy of this game was the fact it was a major MMO that had a mac client even if in beta…. Windows sucks as an OS I used various once for most of my life as it is…
Anyhow I’m on a macbook pro 8.1 13", OS X 10.7 (Lion) 2.4Ghz i5 processors 4GB RAM
I’ll continue to play, will keep a close eye on fps and report any important findings… Aside from Marionette (which imo is badly programmed anyway, not that it stopped me trying to get all the achievements like a sucker for punishment. Just need two more dodges) every other aspect of the game is still playable for me, for now….
Perhaps they should conduct technical satisfaction surveys, could help to identify where the problems are.
I suspect it’s not just a mac issue I’ve asked around there are those ignorant ones on overflows that just blame the user’s machine and network and many players experience very few performance problems but then there are a fair number too that even with a good machine get issues. (Windows users at that) Lag issues started for me ironically after the first birthday of this game when much of the UI would be invisible for a time, lowering game settings doesn’t help oddly… WvW I haven’t done much of recently but it does seem to run better than Scarlet’s marionette and the wurm event, especially the marionette with the warden battles, lots of issues there!
I thought for months this 2 week updating system was opening a can of worms/wurms and sad to say it is holding true… The trading post often doesn’t connect either, much work to do! Still a great value for money this game is but it does sadden me last time I logged onto SWTOR it’s become the case that that broken game runs more smoothly than this!
Well thanks for the info I will be wary about doing things in HoM
Indeed making the key in Tyria completes the daily as I just have done and got the shoddy backpiece….
(edited by Yifang.8260)
Interesting how the system can’t recognise the task being completed regardless if it’s done in the normal world or the mists… I’ve been told the salvage achievement also is ignored if done in the mists
The task is to forge one aetherblade key, which I did and no reward. Has anyone else had this issue? I forged it whilst in Heart of the mists not that it should have been a problem
I find it highly doubtful something like resetting achievements couldn’t be spotted prior to release, I have seen far worse bugs in patches for lesser MMOs, while I must accept mistakes will happen
a) They are sometimes preventable
b) It’s how you make up for your mistakes that matter, them doing nothing is plain wrong, I seriously doubt their system doesn’t log who completed what, otherwise how do they know you got your daily or monthly? All information are backed up surely!? That’s basic IT!
Maybe it’s not something easily fixed, fine, even if they offered something as a compensation while it won’t please all of us at least they did something rather than ‘this won’t happen again’….
I had little confidence on this 2 week living story structure, I started the game later than most it seems, April during the trial weekend…. Flame and Frost I didn’t do much of, I did almost every achievement for Southsun cove…. To sum it up with the merits of these events it’s NOT making me enjoy the game more, 2 weeks is far too frequent for new ‘temporary’ events AND furthermore the devs are showing themselves up, within an hour or so of a new update they need a new build to fix something, this has become increasingly frequent in my time in this game, it’s clear they aren’t on top of their ‘brilliant’ 6 times more often updates compared to typical mmos. This most recent debacle is the smoking gun, they were patting themselves on the back late August for the game’s accomplishments in it’s first year, well done it IS the best mmorpg to date I’ve been a part of, yet first day of September trading post is down 2-3hrs?! And to make it worse they’ve lost our progress for our monthlies?
Well it’s true we still have much of the month left to sort that, shame for those strapped for time to play games they really need to do something better than just saying sorry, for making big changes to the game they gave everyone items and what not, surely they can do the same here? Even one laurel would satisfy some of the upset people, I’m with the majority here. If a company messes up it is their duty to make amends, customers have a right to complain!
Maybe it’s a lesson to us all, investing in any mmo long time has it’s risks, truthfully I don’t like the daily/monthly system at all, is comparable to school or work, doesn’t feel like a game when you have timed tasks (admittedly not very difficult ones) but it does contradict Anet’s promoting of the game where you can come and go for long periods and not be disadvantaged! Laurels can only be earned through certain tasks and of course people who can play every day will have a slight advantage! Furthermore they’ve fell on their sword again with their frequent living story changes, if you go away for a month, oh you will missed out on some events!
All in all is still a great game just many of us or most in this thread feel they need to apply the brakes with the fortnight system, quality over quantity surely. That’s my piece, for anyone who challenges it I might not bother to follow up but I have been constructive with my points, we’re the players of games, not the ones to be played by the devs and the company! All the best everyone, enjoy gaming in moderation, best advice in general, which I haven’t followed as well as I should in all honesty.
