Guess all those who were doubting were wrong.
I know you’re trying to prove point by posting here in the sPvP part of the forums but I honestly don’t think it should really warrant its own thread.
You don’t see people from the Engineer forum posting how scope and rifled barreled turrets (yes these still don’t work even after the recent update) traits are still buggy since release.
The point I’m trying to get at here is that the devs do what you say they do (mentioning on fixing a bug but not really fixing it) but it’s really not just an isolated case with the mesmer.
Difference being those are things broken since release and they don’t completely negate an entire weapon for you guys. yes it sucks that they are broken but you don’t come into every patch wondering “what did they break but not write down this time.” Mesmers do and are pretty much the only class that does.
No but we got builds nerfed to the ground as well so much so that HgH is the only competitive one. The only difference is that ours is somewhat written but we’ve also had our share of ninja nerfs.
The ninja nerfs get addressed if not within a couple days by the next patch at most… HgH also isn’t the only viable builds in fact most of the engis I play with use some form of a bunker build that is just god like…. Mesmer ninja nerfs/negative bugs get a slight nod and that’s it.
The bunker build for engies work best only at some maps (Khylo in particular) but pale in comparison to guards. This isn’t my point though.
I really understand where you’re coming from but you’re really not gonna get a lot of positive feedback especially when mesmer classes are perceived to be the top of the viability list in sPvP. The necro thread got a lot more positive feedback because it was a lot more justified.

I transmuted my backpack with the Quaggan backpack, and I can still use it in the forge together with the rest of the Fractal Capacitor items. So yes you can. However you will lose the skin after you forge it.
Thanks for testing it! Guess I’ll skip the super backpack then.
Not 100% sure if you are able to, but if you would, it would become the Fractal Capacitor (infused) and not retain the super backpack skin. If you want the skin, I would suggest holding it until you upgrade you capacitor.
Bummer… Wanted to use the skin now rather than hoard on for 250 ectos… Oh well. Thanks for the reply.
What happens if I apply the skin on the Prototype Fractal Capacitor (Ascended)? Is it still possible to turn it into the Fractal Capacitor (infused) with the Super Backpack skin?
Either nerf grenade damage or jump shot damage, or remove some CC from them, the amount of blowouts and knockdowns and huge damage combined with cloak on immobilization and a lot of ‘oh kitten’ skills they have is just too much. Not talking about 1v1 where you can predict and dodge it all but on a 2v2 3v3 or w/e while on a point where you cant see anything (because grenades have over 9000 range) of whats going on you just get wrecked by this they dont even need to target you every thing is ground targeted.
Let me guess, you were are at the Temple of the Silent Storm at the Gate and you were bombarded?
I was wrong about him. He’s telling the truth about his fractal level. Doesn’t mean that I agree with the whole statement that the player base is the problem.
I’ll be waiting
Oh yes, BTW I really do think the OP is lying or trolling. Mind you that the player base actually reaching in the 40s in FoTM is really small (OP claims to have reached 50 and sPvP 36). No one knows him (I tried asking around). Second his account arenanet medals are only 3550, much less than mine. I highly doubt anyone who claims to be a fractal 50 and dolyak rank has merely that many arenanet medals considering I have even more:
I’m Frac 43, do you know me? That’s really a poor argument to go after the OP, let alone an Ad hominem. Moreso, often people will have their own statics for running higher fractals.
And it’s not that hard, if you don’t actively pursue account medals, tons of people I play with have much less than me. I, however, pursued every jumping puzzle, World Completion, and more. I can’t speak to PvP achievement points however. But it all depends what you pursue.
I’d say the OP could be trolling, if he actually wasn’t up bringing up adequate points about the class and exhibiting some form of knowledge.
No but it’s highly unlikely. The poster CLAIMS to have those ranks TO GIVE CREDENCE to his post and that he’s pro and everyone is wrong thus L2P. Play that game, and you play with fire. I find that anet medals are a generally good measure to know if someone has generally understood the game and his or her class. YMMV.
Dunno if the OP is just trolling but ever heard of the law of parsimony? It’s much more complex and difficult to assume and prove that engineers are suffering from a really bad player based in comparison to ALL OTHER CLASSES than having a class that is relatively underpowered compared to others (or at least much more difficult to use and requires specialization of traits).
It’s like having a blackout in your home and you’re assuming that the cause was something like an earthquake caused some damage tot he power lines rather than a fuse breaking.
These L2P threads really need to stop making sweeping generalizations about the player base.
Thank you!
I’m so tired of the tired argument that X class is only strong because people can’t figure them out, and Y class is only weak because people can’t figure them out. “L2P!”
It just makes no sense at all. There is no reason to believe a statistically significant amount of ‘skilled’ players will choose one particular class over another.
I see the problem is that Engineer doesn’t really have the “introductory” low-skill cap, high reward spec some of the other classes enjoy. The diversity that is the hallmark of the Engineer may also be what keeps that from ever happening.

Elixir X on land = Warrior’s Rampage or Elementalist’s Tornado. Considering you don’t see any of these being used in sPvP that often, it’s not too surprising that they’re really pointless to use in land for engineers. Tornado is weak because it’s really easy to outmaneuver (not to mention getting confused is suicide), while Rampage doesn’t provide enough DPS and you lose all your utility skills, which doesn’t really warrant its use. I wouldn’t recommend using it in WvW due to the unpredictability of getting either or. You’re much better off staying in the back of a zerg and hurling grenades.
Elixir X is most useful in water when opponents can hardly kite as well as in land so plague (necro’s elite) and whirlpool (ele elite) will provide really decent dps. This makes it useful for the ruins in the Raid of the Capricorn.
Might as well write the bugs down on a piece of paper and then throw it away for all the good this thread is doing…
Way to disrespect what gkaare is working on here.
I meant no disrespect to gkaare, but c’mon, these bugs have been around forever with very few fixes being made. It’s frustrating to have the same obstructed bugs now that I had on launch day.
At least they fixed the kits in pve and WvW. Now I feel that squishy every time I switch into a kit.
Is it really that much of a big deal? Before I read this post, I don’t think I’ve ever said to myself, “Oh crap, that midget got away because I didn’t target him properly.” or, “Shoot, he/she is so small I didn’t see that back breaker coming.”
Well to be fair, it’s not like competitive Necros would touch the Soul Reaping line as well since Death Shroud on land is pretty useless. You’re right though that most of the engineer’s traits are a bit underwhelming.
Definitely on the rewards point… Nothing to really spend glory on really… I open chests salvage throw into the Mystic Toilet…. get the same skin…. I kind of wish there was something like the Zaishen Chest/Zaishen key like in Guild Wars 1. I wonder if they’re hellbent in separating PvP rewards from PvE?
As Doomguard said, you probably got them from some karma vendor, Lion guard Lyns, and some items from the personal story line. Other than these, can’t really think of anything else that’s unsalvageable.
Maybe you should post a screenshot of the item in question that can’t be salvaged.
I tried salvage something I got from the Dragon event, still turned up red -.-
Red? What do you mean red? As in your inventory was full and it was red?
Er…. You could be trying to salvage something/equipment from a karma vendor. Some things aren’t just salvageable. Definitely on your side of things.
I think it’s a good idea although I wouldn’t call it a fix (more like a good suggestion). Doesn’t really hurt anyone and benefits players who haven’t have the time to spend 1-2 hours completing dailies each day.
*Edit
Actually it has one little bad effect… If you complete it partially and it moves on to the next week/month, you won’t get the arenanet coins (or whatever they’re called) and the exp gained by progressing the daily/monthly achievement requirements.

There are two very different stories about Engineers that get posted on these forums.
- On one hand we have videos and posts from people confirming how their Engineer can chew up and spit out pretty every other class, up to and including 1v3 fights.
- On the other hand we have lots of complaints about Engineers being underpowered compared with other classes.
Underlying that first group of posts is the message:
Engineers are awesome if you just learn how to play them properly. So why isn’t that message working?
Because it’s untrue, and blatantly obviously so to anyone who isn’t a groupie.
The “if you just learn how to play them properly” is a mechanism for delivering maximum belittling to people who disagree, because obviously anyone who disagrees with you is a noob.
To add to your post, I should mention that there’s a very good reason why Engineers aren’t wanted in high level fractals and somewhat in sPVP tournaments (I was asked to change classes when I tried going with a PUG once).
you neglect to actually define that “very good reason” because…
it doesn’t exist.
There is no good reason other than ignorance of non-engineers thanks to a plethora of lack luster engineers who haven’t given many groups much to work with.
imagine if the warrior forums were all “no man, actually, 5 sigils is best” and they stuck with it. eventually, no one would want warriors because they’d suck, and rightfully so.
choose your skills wisely, and choose them to benefit the situation you are about to enter. some skills need love from anet but that doesn’t make us useless or unwanted or undesirable.
edit: this is not to say that people turn down engies in groups, it is to say that a more educated and adaptable engie community will change the perception of engies for other people who don’t get to see us shine (problems or not)
No it does exist for a lot of people. High level fractals require very good support (Guardians or possibly Eles) or very high DPS (Warriors). I left it out on purpose because it’s subjective to high level play and I am sure many of the people saying that the class is ‘alright’ would say with what I’m claiming isn’t true (and I’m not in a mood for an argument or lengthy explanations). Truth is many people (including I) find that the engie doesn’t excel in DPS or support in comparison to what an Ele, Guardian, Warrior, or Thief might accomplish (Necros are almost in the same boat as us due to the crappy Death Shroud and slow staff attack). So there is my argument if it’s succinct enough for you.
In any case, whether or not one says the class is or isn’t underwhelming, Engies are turned down the most on high level fractals and tournaments. This is from my personal experience and probably some of you have better or worse expereince than I have so YMMV.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned this but tossing an Elixir H in underwater does NOT remove a condition when the Cleaning Formula 409 is placed as a trait. Using this utility skill on land activates the cleaning 409 though.
Remove siege weaponry and the use of mesmer portals in the JP. People often cannot get up the arena or dome because of these things just because 4-5 people decide to camp the area.
*Edit
And yes before anyone mentions it, I realize that the use of mesmer portals can help people to get to the top without any hassle but I believe that it’s more trouble than its worth in terms of fairness in the JP.

I thought Engineers were like Aquaman since they’re best at water.
