Fast cast ground targeting has its drawbacks, but only if you can’t realize how to properly mitigate them (if you do they’re still drawbacks, but much much less painful ones).

I always center my mouse cursor when kiting and use the camera to aim the nades. I’ve recently also learned how to run away, aim the camera backwards and throw nades while running at full speed.

GW2 devs should still add an option for a ‘plain’ mouse cursor or some other way to make the cursor more visible. This would help out a lot with FCGT usability.

Heal Turrets for quick heals / cond'n removal

Zero Angel.9715

I’ve recently started experimenting with healing turrets.

Basically since picking up a healing turret (as opposed to detonating) reduces its cooldown by a certain amount (1/3 I think), I thought it would be a neat strategy to drop a heal turret for its burst heal, pick it up right away and continue kiting.

However, I have noticed that in this case it seems no more effective than using Elixir H. Furthermore, tapping 6 again to drop ‘cleansing mist’ quickly after deploying it sometimes seems to occasionally (often) cause no conditions to be removed, but cleansing mist to go on cooldown anyways.

Has anyone experimented with quickly picking up heal turrets after dropping or have any other good strategies for using healing turrets other than to plop down for area regen? Is it worth it to use a heal turret only for its burst regen? When is detonating a better option?

Is healing turret + cleansing mist better than Elixir H (with Cleaning Formula 409 specced) for condition removal? Are healing turrets practical AT ALL for the fractals?

Discuss healing turrets here!

Fractals are made even worse by the fact that you have to do them with other players. Nothing kills an MMO faster than being forced to play it with the other players.

If you dont want to play an RPG with other players there are plenty of options out there for you. *cough*skyrim*cough*

They should add fractal locations throughout the world, cause I hate going into LA overflow all the time.

Overflow is the best way to find groups for FotM. If you can’t find party members on your world’s LA, you can pick some up in overflow and likewise if you cant complete your group in overflow, go back to your world’s LA and grab party members from there. Works for all dungeons, not just FotM.

You don’t need 2 guys on bucket duty if you know who is least likely to aggro the boss. Generally it works this way, the boss tends to aggro more often on certain people, so this is what you do:

(1) If you are on bucket duty, its probably because you’re the type who is unlikely to draw aggro. If you often draw his aggro even when not attacking, then you have no business running buckets — it’ll only prolong the fight if you try to do bucket duty while getting chased up and down the ramps.

(2) Drop heals on your teammates if you’re on bucket duty. It helps when he uses his ground pound (or on Lvl 10+, the added agony damage)

(3) Do not attack him while running buckets.

(4) If he chases after you then immediately jump down and do kiting/DPS duty until the aggro is off of you. It helps if your teammates realize this and someone temporarily fills your spot on bucket duty.

(5) Best place to drop AoE healz is near the brown patches where you are trying to kite him to.

So I went AFK on a loading screen which just happened to be for the ‘snow blind’ fractal. Looking around (defeated of course), I seen a curious arrangement of scaffolds and ice blocks that appear as if they can be jumped on.

I’m just wondering if anyone has explored this area and can tell me whether or not this is a jumping puzzle or leads anywhere cool.

Pick up the crystal!

It’s annoying. What I do is spam the ‘f’ key and dodge anyways, since his attack is dodgeable when you’re marked.

The auto run thing is annoying too. I usually reorient my camera and hold both mouse buttons (to prevent myself from running into something dangerous) then spam all my movement keys and can get rid of it in about 2-5 seconds but it has prevented me from responding to certain events in a timely fashion.

EDIT: I have been informed that the ‘auto-run bug’ is usually not a bug at all, but just lag. Some weirdness that accompanies it (like being marked by the Jade Maw, not seeing his attack, and still being able to throw the crystal) supports that information.

unfair for a grenade engineers.

I’m a nade specced engineer and i’ve gotten so far to Lvl 13 and have had to fight that boss on at least 6 occassions. Yes its very difficult. What I do though is:

(1) Equip Elixir gun as a secondary kit, maybe Supply Drops or a Golem as the elite skill (SD medkits can give you slightly more survivability if your heals are all on cooldown)

(2) Spam nades if the team is on good health and you dont have much else to do, the boss is healing or on any lava elementals that appear (its important to kill them quickly)

(3) If anyone looks badly hurt or on fire or if you’re hurt, switch to Elixir gun and drop an AoE heal near their location so they can quickly regenerate health.

In essence the Elixir gun gives you a more supporting role in the fight and increased survivability (since you can AoE heal yourself and teammates).

If anyone gets KO’d, don’t drop everything to revive, wait till the situation is somewhat safe like not taking so much aggro.

I generally use this overall strategy on any boss that is strong against condition damage. Elixir gun AoE heal can save the lives of any primary damage dealers and prevent your team from having to attempt any risky revives.

It takes awhile to learn but the traps tend to be in fixed locations. Also most of the traps (like the bear traps and trip wire traps) do not have red circles and are difficult to spot even for a person with normal vision.

Once you memorize the locations of the traps and places where the walls are likely to appear then it becomes easier.

It also helps to equip stun breaking or condition removal abilities, though you cannot always use them on yourself if you’re running a wisp.

He’s a fun but difficult boss to fight, and definitely beatable if you have a semi competent party. I agree that his ground pounding skill is a little too annoying and it might cause you to waste your endurance, but this can be mitigated by taking the hit and having people with AoE heals dropping those in areas where you want to kite him to (like the lava buckets), additionally:

(1) Know who has the aggro. Person who has the aggro kites the boss.

(2) Person who does not have aggro and is not operating the lava bucket, go and revive the KO’d party member.

(3) If you see a red circle on you while reviving, IMMEDIATELY use your dodge.

It’s not hard, it just requires some timing and awareness.

Personally, I think that the boss is a little too powerful for low level pugs. Good ways to make him easier are:

(1) On lower levels, reduce the radius of his ground attack ability
(2) On lower levels, prevent him from throwing 2 layers of bombs (so that you do not use your dodge only to dodge into another bomb)

Option for a 'plain' mouse cursor

Zero Angel.9715

I think it would be nice to have an option for a plain mouse cursor. The reasoning behind this is fast cast ground targeting, its a great option but it can be hard to tell where the mouse cursor is sometimes as it tends to blend in with explosions and red hued environments, especially when it’s currently hovering over an enemy.

Speed up underwater combat

Zero Angel.9715

While I sort of agree, I do think that there are certain abilities that you can set on your 7, 8, 9 and 0 slots that will allow you to kill things underwater faster. Speeding up combat, by say, increasing the amount of damage everything takes can be quite unpleasant for the player in situations where there are too many enemies, he may die before he has a chance to properly react. If your suggestion is to make underwater combat ‘easier’ instead, then I disagree, underwater combat is decently easy if you set your other underwater skills and use them properly.

Reduce repetitive dialogue near ...

Zero Angel.9715

While I do like the flavor that NPC conversations add to the world, I think they can get stale and repetitive in certain areas where the player is likely to be around for a long amount of time. I speak of course of things like banks, crafting stations, and trading posts (especially the ones in Lion’s Arch, where all the Level 80 characters tend to gather). These ideas would reduce the amount of voice clutter I think:

(1) Double the length of time in between NPC dialogue in these areas

(2) Move NPCs that trigger spontaneous dialogue somewhere else or reduce the radius in which their dialogue can be heard.

(3) For certain NPCs that are interfaced with often (like the Lions Arch banker), make the voice clip for triggering the NPC play locally only for the player that triggered it.

Share Magic Find Stat

Zero Angel.9715

There’s no guarantee that those who wear MF gear would be ‘too weak to complete the instance’, especially since the people who use MF to farm for rares are typically running with an otherwise good set of gear and knowledge of game mechanics where ‘losing’ a bonus stat (like Vit or Prec) to Magic Find is probably not as big a deal as you imagine when compared to the ‘average’ person.

That said, MF should provide a bonus to party members in the same instance, like maybe a good 20% or so.

Idea: LFG system improvements

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zero Angel.9715

Zero Angel.9715

I believe the current LFP/LFG system is not often used because it’s lacking in features — especially for methods to let others know what you’re LFG for. While I believe that adding a ‘comment’ section to the current LFG would easily solve the problem it would introduce an undesirable aspect of people using the LFG system to advertise things like their guild or gold selling.

So therefore I present the following ideas for improving the current LFG system.

(1) Allow two main checkboxes for players who flag themselves as LFG.
(a) General LFG. For those who are just looking for someone to adventure or farm with.
(b) Specific LFG, for dungeons.
(2) Specific LFG would allow players to select several checkboxes for dungeons they’re willing to run, including the ability to choose between story and explorable modes.
(3) Existing parties can search the list of players who are LFG so that they can invite them to the party.

It would be a complicated system to design, but I think it might help cull down on some of the spam in Lion’s Arch and give players the option to not have to constantly advertise for fear of missing a potential party member or group.

No one will do Story Mode!

Zero Angel.9715

While I think the story is its own reward (for those who like the story or want to do 100% dungeon completion) I think story mode play could be more encouraged by the following rewards:

(1) Title for completing all dungeons in story mode at least once (e.g.: Defender of Tyria — or maybe something a little less grand since that’s what the hard to get titles are for)

(2) Tokens equivalent to 1/2 of what they would get doing an explorable run (perhaps to add a little incentive to those who want to replay the story or want to help a friend/guildmate).

(3) Better rewards for some of the higher level story instances (like perhaps Arah story giving a rare-quality accessory like a ‘dragon bone pendant’ or something that’s better than a hat that most people will quickly outgrow once they start doing explorables if they havent already (I was Lv.80 wearing mostly exotics when I did Arah story, mostly because nobody else was LFM for it))

Idea: Better party compatibility for FotM

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zero Angel.9715

Zero Angel.9715

Due to the difficulty in finding groups that are on your level for fractal runs, I propose the following setup for them:

(1) If the lowest rated party member is one level below the currently designed run, his level does not reduce the level of the current run. [party compatibility]

(2) If the lowest rated party member is 2 or more levels below the other party members then he reduces the level of the dungeon to (his level + 1) [exploit prevention]

(3) A lower level party member going into a higher level FotM run still only has his personal level increased by 1 upon completion. [exploit prevention]

(4) Defeating the bonus boss again on a level you previously played only grants half the tokens to the players who have already completed that bonus boss before. [exploit prevention]

If all of these conditions were to be implemented, I think it would reduce a lot of difficulty that people have in finding party members that are exactly the same level as them — especially when going into higher levels like 9 or 13.

Swamp Fractal = The final straw.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

The swamp traps are in a fixed location, some of the paths require you to use a certain strategy and route (spiders one for example needs you to stay away from the eggs until you’re ready to set the group off, then just prior to the go signal run past the eggs, grab the wisp and then carry it to the drop zone). I’m guessing that those who are having the hardest time with this are (a) have done it only for the first few times and have not learned the tricks/trap or (b) using groups with poor communication or party members lacking common sense (like failing to pull the drake off a runner, not helping with the skelks, reviving in bad conditions, not paying attention to what’s going on, etc). A group I ran with completed the swamp on the 3rd try — the previous group before that was 30+ tries before people started giving up (however we all started learning the tricks and i’m confident we couldve got it with a few more tries)

Issues with getting in dungeon instances

Server: Maguuma
Dungeon: CM Exp p1
Party Size: 5

We got up to the final boss (Frost) with our party but one member had to go so he logged of. We votekicked him and I invited one of my guild mates who had just logged on. He tried to enter the instance but instead entered his own instance. A party member left the instance to try and get him but re-entered into his instance instead of ours, leaving us with 3 party members to fight the last boss. We all quit the dungeon because we did not have the numbers to fight him and he kept resetting when we would kite him too far away and dive into the water when we got hit by his freeze gun

I have noticed a workaround, but it’s only effective if the dungeon has just started or is in its early stages. The workaround is to have the people from the ‘first’ instance of that dungeon all leave and join the new instance of the dungeon that is created by the bugged joiner. In that way everyone can get into the same instance of the dungeon. There is no way to get the bugged party member back into the first instance to my reckoning — the only thing you can do is have him leave the group and invite someone else.
