I play Ele lots
I play Warrior and Engi as well (have played Warrior competitively on EU).
I’ve been rank 1 and top 10 in QPs at one point.

I think support staff ele currently is pretty underrated. The condition clear + heal is very strong, it has a good range, does good AoE CC, and on zerker amulet targets does a good bit of damage.
The other builds that involve zerker amulet are a lot less forgiving, but it’s a fun class to play, so I don’t really care if they nerf or buff it.
If you run a mid-range ele build with soldiers/valk amulet it’s a bit more forgiving, but not by much, but you’ll be doing mediocre damage which imo at that point you should just get a thief/mesmer.
Because Ele + Thief synergy is rough and requires a lot of work. You cant go down if you 2v2 in current meta but you can insta burst almost anything down 100-0.
Yeah seriously! AND Eles can stealth for 10s+ and wreck you without you even knowing! PLS 75S INVULN nerf pls
I got dishonored because the servers were crashing repeatedly for the past 4 days Q_Q
Dishonor too stronk..
They call me the dishonorable one aka Young Samurai

Any opinions on staff builds, traits, gear etc?
I think staff in spvp still has the same issues as it did before, the support got nerfed way too hard 6 months ago, and it still is not very strong to be a support build because S/D support outshines it with consistent faster cast heals whereas if you use Water 5 + Earth 2 + a blast finisher in it, that takes quite a while to get the heals you want, plus your teammates have to be close to the blast finishers, where as S/D support only needs you to be close enough to your teammates to dodge roll + switch to water + water 5 + water 3.
The aoe for staff support is much larger and the range is nice, but I believe that staff is only exceptionally strong in WvW. in WvW staff can utilize the towers and large terrain to abuse it’s range advantage and big aoe advantage on zergs and things of that nature. You can sit back with a full zerker staff full DPS and not get hit and do tons of pressure to the enemy. Staff support in WvW wouldn’t be bad either IMO because it is a lot of people you can aoe support whereas in spvp it’s a 5v5.

Love your videos Zoose. So for the current build you are taking Fresh Air and at the moment it doesn’t have an internal cooldown on the trait. Do you feel the trait will still be good when it gets fixed to have a 5 second internal cooldown?
Yes, I feel the trait will still be strong with 5s internal CD because that’s when your Lightning Strike will come back anyway ^^
Zoose, what do you think of this?
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-k34;2R0-U0-5gM-Z0;9;5T-JJ;159B;146-04-UN;4Ewk2Ewk25BX
(arcane mastery and stop drop ’n roll are still up to debate >.<)
My preliminary testing has been positive, but I can’t test this against good opponents right now (having no team sucks :p) so I don’t really know if this would work or not
I think that build is good. You can dodge more with energy sigil too, haha so it’s not bad at all ^^
It’s just a different way of playing imo through those traits. I kinda changed to Hoelbrak runes cause the -20% condition duration atm for condi teams.
@Jsu
Thanks brah. You’re the man!
Plus don’t forget that glyphs are also in the lightning attunement trait line.
Fair enough usually for raw damage i’d use hoelbrak or strength. Hoelbrak is good due to -20% condition duration and strength for 5% damage if you have might.
I’ve actually switched my runes to Hoelbrak now, but yeah I remember strength being bugged. Not sure if it still is right now.
The condi meta in spvp right now makes it so that -20% condition duration is really good.
Hey Zoose I watched your video and I’ve created the exact same build after the patch was released. Basing the main opening for the burst to be ‘electric discharge’ is what I believe is the whole ideal for this exact build you’re using. It may be for personal preference but using the knights amulet will give you a slight extra survivability. The sigil to use for your main hand should be ‘intelligence’ allowing you to switch to lightning attunement for ‘discharge’ frequently plus it’ll allow you to rely on one arcane utility.
For healing, the ‘glyph’ or ether renewal would be a bit more reliable since we wouldn’t be able to pull off a lot of heals from using the skill plus (I’m sure you know) it’s best to not use the heal for signet of restoration unless it’s really needed or you’re traited correctly and fully to earth.
Lastly for runes i wouldn’t rely on you getting hit to get that dog in ogre since you’re pretty much a glass cannon I guess the ones i would recommend would be ‘eagle’ and ‘scholar itself’.
I have actually tried out the glyph heal a bit, and I find it is a bit better than the signet heal yeah because of the nerfs to evasive arcana proc’ing the heal.
Ogre is used for the raw damage, not necessarily the rock dog. I prefer it over Eagle. ^^
I may or may not switch to scholar though ;o
Hey Zoose, Kaane here. Great video as usual. With this build, after the SOAC, I have tried to play a couple tPvP and find out some weakness with this build as listed :
1/ You will most likely lose on 1on1 fight, assuming you both on the same skill level.
2/ Lack of Condition Removal.
3/ Lack of Stun Break.
4/ The burst is not as much as I expected. In short, the build lacks of Survivability, compared to most of other GC class. The dps is not as much as other GC class (test it with my friend Guardian balanced build stand still and after finish my burst, he still has 30% of his health left and I am screwed). My opinion on this is you either go all out,no defensive and kill OP in one short (build like Cmc) or being a bunker. There is no between line.
Yeah, this spec is going to be more much more useful in a real fight because of how much dmg you can do quickly and then be getting out (in real games I use RTL to disengage). So you can do a hit and run type of thing, but sometimes I slot mist form, sometimes I slot arcane shield, and against triple condi teams I slot cleansing fire.
I may go 20 arcana and 20 water to see how that works, I’m not sure.
Zooseybaby, Ken here. I don’t get a chance to play much ele these days, but with the 20% while knocked down trait, couldn’t you go double arcane + lightning flash to updraft into fire grab people that don’t or can’t stun break?
The build: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-k34;2B2-U0c4-N-Z0;9;5T-9T;156A;15;004BIN;4G3G3G3G35Bc
The combo (starting from Air): 4 5 2 F1 5 lightning flash double arcane
The idea of course being to hit with both arcanes before grab finishes casting and put burn on them from that. Should be able to 100-0 most GCs, no? As for condi removal, scream at your Guardian
You could also go 5 2 4 F1 5 double arcane if you are already next to them and want to save lightning flash.
Haha yo that combo sounds like it’s just a freestyle! It looks pretty solid though if you can get it to land. And yeah you would 100-0 a lot of people with grounded, but then if they stun break that trait is kinda worthless ya know?
I just prefer the fresh air because it’s reliable. But there are def some situations where Grounded can be way better. BTW grounded only works with knockdowns, so I think updraft is bugged where it won’t work with grounded. I haven’t tested this yet though with the new patch.
On a scale of 1 – kawaii desu japanese school girl, how cute are you really?
Yo, what’s up everybody?
It’s your friendly neighborhood Zoose here. I just wanted to share my current build with everyone that I’m running post patch. It’s still S/D, but it’s got some changes to it that create a lot of insane burst potential. Feel free to share it and discuss here.
Sorry I haven’t been so active on these parts of the forums. I usually tend to just do podcasts, and talk to people via voice/stream instead. :P But this time it’s a video!

oh nooo we’re missing 2 people. everyone is on TS atm when you get on you can whisper me
Ima try to add everyone and see if you’re on for practice. If you guys can be on at least an hour before the tourney starts that wouldn’t be too bad either to try to get some practice in before the tourney.
JSU My boy
Let’s do it big this time around boys. Win it all ;]
Add me in game current sign ups.
Zoose.1640 or Zoose
We can practice a little before the tourney, so you guys get some next level tips ;o
The ranks go higher than 80 by the way, but ye. Ranks are too hard especially for meeeee! I have been playing since release and I am rank 47 lmao.
Tarcis my boy :’] so proud of you
I think Necros are pretty strong in the right hands and with the right team. Most people just tend to brush off necros because it isn’t easy to play or fit into a team. We need some god tier necro teams to unleash the beast ; ]
“god tier necro teams " Can we get an ETA on the Korean release?
I can finally reunite with my brethren. XD
Suggestions 1: Scrap the Rank System
Instead allow us to buy every armor set and weapon through a fixed amount of glory. It can be even set high and have a similiar mechanic as jewels, sigils and runes in the locker, making it able to have an infinite amount of this or that item. This would also fix the issue with not being able to storage more than 1 exemplar in the locker yet.
A high amount of glory needed for the for full tier 3 cultural armor set around let’s say 350k-400k would mean that it takes some time to get that much glory.
There can even be an achievement for having all these items stored or enable in the locker. A title or something.I also want to mention, that the crafting mats and the mystic forge gamble are not necessary anymore. Instead we could have more crafting materials for dyes and have a more stable income to earn gold and therefore gems. Which is also an issue, forcing some pvp players to play pve and farm the necessary amount of gold or have them wait until they reach enough gold with spent laurels and sold dyes here and there.
This is in my opinion probably the best way to go about ranks/glory. Maybe you can keep rank to show how much time people have invested in this game, but in terms of armor I think it should be glory based, and I wouldn’t mind it being something like 300k glory like you said. I’m sitting on like 450k glory atm.
I think Necros are pretty strong in the right hands and with the right team. Most people just tend to brush off necros because it isn’t easy to play or fit into a team. We need some god tier necro teams to unleash the beast ; ]

Hello friends! ^^ Zoose here, your friendly neighborhood Elementalist. Today I’m going to present to you a mini-guide on how to play Scepter/Dagger Ele.
Personally, I like to see the big numbers, so I enjoy playing DPS Scepter/Dagger. Here’s my build:
http://www.reddit.com/r/gw2esports/comments/1e985g/daily_discussion_513_scepterdagger_burst/
^ Link is broken on here, use that to click on link
About me:
I have played Elementalist back when it was really buggy and horrible to play Ele (on launch). I enjoy playing this class and have a lot of tournament experience in it as well.
Before GW2 I competitively played DotA 1, and spent a lot of time playing WC3. I had a small stint in GunZ, a korean third person shooter that required extreme reaction time. I enjoy playing League of Legends [currently Diamond] as well as competitive GW2.
My previous GW2 teams are: Jo0, Curse, Team Paradigm, and Nonstop Nonsense.
I currently play on EU for [TCG] The Civilized Gentlemen (formerly Curse)
Pros:
- Extremely fast burst potential
- Insane burst if you can crit
- Good sustain
- Good mobility with Ride the Lightning + Swiftness
- Excellent boons—protection, swiftness, might, regen
- Boons and heals can be shared to teammates
- 1 Instant blind, 1 AoE blind
- Good AoE damage
- Good AoE CC
- Strong elite pet that you can heal/protect
Cons:
- Weak to instagib
- Mist form is your ONLY stun break (75s CD)
- One mistake can cost you your life
- Position dependent build
- No stability
- Heals can be dazed/stunned/CC’d
- Missing burst means you will have to wait at least (10s) for the next burst rotation
- Can be RNG dependent (minorly alleviated through Fury 20% crit chance])
- Fire grab, Ride the Lightning, Updraft, and Earthquake (the most important spells imo) have long 40s cooldowns. You must land these consistently to be successful.
- One of the higher skill cap ele builds because it requires timing, awareness, quick reactions, proper positioning, and multiple muscle memory combos
Tips:
- Count enemy dodge rolls and force at least 1 dodge before initializing any type of combos such as [Air 2,3,4 + double arcane]
- Mind game opponents by dodging into them to create damage pressure and/or causing them to burn a dodge [Dodging in fire gives burning which in my opinion is one of the strongest conditions in the game]
- Utilize might stacks on opponents if you’re fighting in a small area or on a node, this can also damage them or create pressure for them to dodge [Fire 2,4,3 + Arcane wave + Earth dodge roll + Earth 4 (optional)]
- You can cast phoenix backwards [Fire 3]
Phoenix can hit 3 times if you properly position it just right behind an opponent [Fire 3]
- You can change attunements while channeling spells [Fire 5, Earth 5, Earth 4, Water 5, Water 3, Air 1, etc.] This will proc Fury which lasts 2 seconds and grants [+20% crit chance]
- Fire grabbing people who are burning does 2x the damage and can crit twice as hard.
Use ride the lightning most of the time for escape purposes or gap closing purposes, don’t just use it randomly (40s CD)
- Don’t sit in one attunement waiting for a spell unless it is absolutely necessary, you’re better off attunement dancing and casting other spells as they will do more damage or be more productive as you get boons in between attunement swaps.
- Utilize your elite depending on the situation [Fire gives most damage, Water heals and creates frost field, Air stuns from range, Earth gives protection]
- You can use the air elemental and position it outside of something like clocktower’s rafters and have it snipe people with stuns and spells from range
- Try to save one dodge roll for water attunement to heal and cleanse a condition
Combos:
- Air 2,3,4 + Double Arcane
- Fire 3,5 [Attunement swap] Air 2,3 + Double Arcane
- Earth 4 + Fire 3, 4 + Arcane blast
- Fire 2 + Earth 4 + Double arcane
- Water 4 + Fire 1 + Fire 5
- Water 4 + Fire 2, 3, 5
- Potential 1 shot combo: Earth 4 + Fire 3, 5 [Attunement swap] Air 2,3,4 + Double Arcane

You went hamhock, dude.
Nice job casting ; ]
NA is also full of drama and people hate each other’s guts and don’t want to play with each other (in an already small spvp community).
For great justice. Please look at this Anet devs!
Eles are the master class my friend.
IGN: Zoose (Zoose.1640)
Day Available: Thursday/Saturday
Record Capability: Available
NA or EU: NA
Again, I support this because skill queue is killing me via confusion stacks and things of that nature or just wasting my endurance bar for something that I don’t want to use it for.
Game changing to say the least.
The build has been updated instead of sigil of battle, I now recommend sigil of hydromancy or geomancy for the extra damage proc every 9 seconds on attunement swap! Great addition to your arsenal if you’re d/d cause you stay on their face.
I’ll tune in ; ]
EU teams often have a full bunker/support ele. The eles normally have a preference to s/d instead of d/d.
NA is normally more offensive with all their eles and include d/d builds with ogre runes or valk amulet. Pretty much NA meta is 1 bunker + 4 dps, but recently NA has run into a lot of engis with a lot of condi comps that include 2 engis or 1 necro + 1 engi.
Both servers usually have a mesmer/guardian somewhere in the mix.
tl;dr EU has bunker eles that run s/d while NA has d/d eles that are more offensive, NA more offensive in general, EU more defensive to play true conquest. Mesmers/guardians in the mix on both servers
I agree with this. I want to stop dying to confusion from skill/dodge queue -____-
Your new build is impressive, brah.
I think they should just buff more classes to be on par with Rangers, Eles, Engis atm.
This maybe out of topic, but isn’t it just bad strategy vs. good strategy?
I don’t know too much about eles, but I think a good strategy and offense could have trashed them easily.
I would think that it’s just sloppy gameplay and management on the other team.Skill ceiling and learning curve aside, even the average player/class can be a monster when following an excellent strategy. One of them knew what they were doing, the other doesn’t.
Now I know a big problem is that Necros can’t heal or deal damage as fast as the eles in the Vids, and I think that’s what CHIPS is trying to say.
I get that we aren’t built as good as the eles in that respect, we’re a versatile class that can adopt many builds, but cannot outclass most other classes in a specific build. However, we can outmaneuver other classes with a bit of quick thinking (btw this is for all classes, not just necros)
Well, nobody heals better than Eles because we have the skills to do so XD. I think Necros can do a lot of things “just okay”, but yeah they don’t really excel at anything, but if that’s your type of playstyle a little bit of everything then I think Necros in the right hands are really devastating. As soon as the crazy HgH engis get toned down then I think Necros will be okay again in the condi pressure department.
Also, this was in like Tier 6 or so WvW. The other players weren’t exactly the best, but at the same time, we set up our choke points pretty well, so yeah. My other teammates are/were top tpvp players are the time as well, so it makes it much easier to play vs that zerg. It’s a lot about communication and making the proper decisions that makes that video look good, not really the classes. We had thieves and warriors in that group as well. Melee warriors haha
