What about Ranked do you enjoy more than Unranked during off-season?
Is it that you prefer climbing a ladder all the time? Or are there other particular reasons.

I didn’t think this thread would get that much traction. Didn’t mean to leave you hanging mang.
I think the main takeaway is unranked’s algorithm…whatever it is, spreads out the “better” or “higher mmr” players per team rather than stacking them all on one team like ranked does. However, ranked has the added benefit of the climb, people take it more seriously, and usually late in the season people are usually where they belong skill-wise.
It’s also a lot easier to play with 10 people in your skill bracket and test things to see how the meta is without having to be on a team or scrim etc. The quality of the players are higher even if the distribution of the teams aren’t as balanced as unranked.
That’s the main thing for me. Unranked could have 1 or 2 good players on a team and 3 sporadic random MMR players while ranked late in the season evens out everyone’s skill level for the most part. So, you’ll have 10 players that you can play against and winning and losing seems to be more in your control than not.
Also, this is more towards feedback, but I think resets shouldn’t reset people’s ranks back to Amber every season if it’ll be such a short season. I think there should be something like 5 placement matches and the system places you anywhere it thinks you belong (not Legendary) at the start.
I also think win streaking and getting +1 pip every time is a bit much, maybe winning 3 in a row gains you 1 additional pip, but not after ever 3rd win. It should be like 3, 6, 9, 12 etc. will you net you 1 additional pip.
Also, I feel like people should be able to be demoted out of Divisions starting from Ruby back down to Sapphire, Legend 1 to Diamond etc. but that could be a bit much. The other suggestions are probably more important imo.
I think once you have good, competitive, fun matches for the most part then the end of season rewards can be put into perspective. As of now disabling ranked Qs isn’t doing anything significant in terms of end of season rewards because most everyone is getting the same thing. It’s not like I’m hype about my 5 gold and eggplants for being Legend.

I feel your struggles bro because I’m in the same boat haha.
It’s especially unfortunate because I’d love to stream, but I don’t want people waiting 30+ minutes for me to idle in the mists.
The solution that I do is just take a break and duel people or practice other things and scrim other teams, but I understand solo Qers don’t always have the option to do these things, so it’s unfortunate.

Since the season is so short they should just implement placement matches and have it go from there. Last season for me was actually good towards the end because it did weed out a lot of players and I was already Legend x6, so most of my matches were quality matches.
I was talking on stream today about how discouraging it would be for a new player and also as to how easy it is to obtain Legendary even for fairly above average players, so why not just speed your process up by having placement matches instead of having good players grind and force lesser players to lose constantly vs that.
Sounds interesting. Can we get a soft reset of MMR coming into Season 2?
I wouldn’t worry too much about it, and just focus on doing the best you can for yourself.
A couple of my teammates are having this issue and they are from both coasts of the states.

I agree with a lot of this and I think the whole video is a perfect analysis of what’s going on in PvP right now. However if you want to attack double on-swap (or double sigils of same type) it’s bad design to have them work diminishingly, I’d rather have them removed all together. Like pre-powercreep-patch, you can use one and that’s it.
Also air/fire is the only reason S/D thief is a thing right now, something you might have overlooked.
I hope the main ideas go through (lower stats on cele, lower swap sigils). I’d also like to see something done about boon duration too, but that’s more complicated to balance I think.
Also @Chaith I know you get a little wet when you see an amulet with the exact 5 stats you want on your engineer, but those perfect amulets take a lot of the decision making away from the game and frankly make it too trivial.
If you go back to the way thieves were before air/fire stack it would just be air/force or air/accuracy again.
The reason that S/D thieves are a thing is because of being able to freely traverse the map in conquest with the highest mobility as well as having the ability to evade and port a ridiculous amount of times. Their core issues have been in the acrobatics tree as well as the weapon set itself for quite some time now. Air/Fire only enhanced the faster you die to them. And air is where the real damage is at, fire is just there as a placeholder because it’s better than anything else an S/D thief could use (Force/Accuracy examples).
It’s also a nice plus that S/D thief pretty much dumps on any viable mesmer build.
Thanks for the input. I would like for the main core components to go through as well because regardless of the finer details, I think that’s what will address core issues between what’s being dominated in the meta currently without destroying those builds/classes completely.

Adding a diminishing return on different on-swap sigils is a bad idea. It’s unintuitive and punishes classes that don’t really need that kind of nerf.
What classes are those and why?

Yeah it would be nice to be able to have the diminishing returns effect in to play because you could potentially make some cool niche builds off that without having to be limited in sigils, but I get that.
After thinking more about it though I think it’d be best if poison effect wasn’t reduced by % but rather the duration or poison damage was lowered instead. That seems to make more sense.
However, if they aren’t going to go the route of diminishing returns then going back to the way sigils worked before with ICD (internal cooldown) between weapon swap sigils would be excellent as well.
And yeah, I do understand that engineers are best when being the offensive roamer as opposed to being the defensive node defender, but there’s still the option of standing on point for a little while at least to relieve pressure off your primary node defenders. Too much to talk about in the video I just didn’t want it to go on forever.
That amulet looks interesting.

Question to people that hate the Cele bruiser meta. Why? Can anyone please articulate their thoughts on the toxicity of Cele bruisers for the enjoyment of the game.
I didn’t read the rest of this post, but screw it. Here’s my reasons why I hate this meta:
- It Minimalizes Working Builds – No one plays bunker guardian. Why? Did it get weaker? No. We just gained the ability to have builds that work in pretty much every situation. The teamwork factor that comes with proper rotations is gone. It’s just about matching numbers and being a better cele. There are no “jobs” anymore. I don’t make a build with the intend of a single goal like bursting, support or bunkering, I make a build with the intent of being able to do everything.
- Certain aspects of play are gone – Rotating the right stuff to the right place has turned into just matching numbers. Watching out for bursts is pretty much gone. It’s just outsustain right now. You might go for a focus fire, but that’s not really the same thing. Stomps are also pretty rare now, especially in team fights. No bunker guardian made it so players are pretty much only going for DPS outs, even against things like warriors! DPSing out a target isn’t really that interesting to me. The play of trying to maintain DPS so you can get a stomp off is a lot more interesting.
- Mobility isn’t a counter – These comps play on all three points. They’re pretty kitten fast too unless you’re taking a necromancer. Thief, ele and engi are all really fast.
- They’re really hard to duel against – It’s not about getting a good burst off, it’s about getting multiple bursts off while not letting them even get one. If I want to kill a cele engi on power nades, I’ve found that I need anywhere from 2-4 really good bursts to get them down. In a row. They really only need to maintain pressure via burning and occasionally get a few hits in.
- It DOES take less skill – Is the skill ceiling still high? Yes. There are a lot of things you can do with cele engi and ele to make yourself the best in the world. But the punishment for kittening those things up is WAY lower than most builds. On burst builds, kittening up, having bad positioning or focusing the wrong guy could equal death. Don’t even get me started on 100 mines and other like yolo builds.
- Burning On Cele is Dumb – This goes a bit beyond cele, but I think it’s a big reason why it works. Engineer has incendiary powder which is really hard to avoid. Ele has drake’s breath which requires two dodges to fully avoid and burns you for eternity (12s on a 6s recharge). Combustive Shot burns everyone. If you miss with this, uninstall GW2.
- Sustain is really hard to stop – For warrior, it’s healing signet which they never use and traits that regen them. For engineer, it’s a 1/2 cast time skill, backpack regenerator and transmute. For ele, it’s a dodge in water, small healing on all casts, regeneration and two skills you can actually interrupt. The only real good counter is poison, but they remove it so much that you need a crazy amount of poison to do it!
- Games going to Timer – Because there’s three decaps almost all the time, it’s boring to play and watch. I vastly prefer the super active fights where doing something wrong can spell death, not a slight loss in health. I want people to be making PLAYS, not just trying to stall the game/fights. “OH SNAP HE JUST GOT THE BURST OFF AND HE GOES DOWN” instead of “OH SNAP HE JUST GOT THE BURST OFF AND I THINK IF HE CAN GET LIKE 4 MORE IN THE NEXT 10 SECONDS WE MIGHT SEE SOMEONE DIE”.
- In the ideal game, every build is equally viable – Cele is a meta right now. People want to play their style of builds and not be worse off for it.
The concept of a build being able to do everything is broken. It’s called “Holes in Roles”. There are no decently enough sized holes in these builds.Reposting for posterity

Just to be fair, the original abjured comp utilized 2 celestial amulets. Rabid engi, d/p thief, carrion necro, celestal elex2. After 2 member couldn’t attend WTS, the abjured then replaced two players. After replacing 2 players the Abjured still beat every team in the world with substitutes. The roster was then changed following the WTS. Now, yes it had 3 celestial amulets. Did good fights dominate the NA scene before WTS? Yes. Before Celestial amulet was even introduced! The abjured comp is now 3/5 previous Good Fights. TBH as a berserker amulet i can 1v1 any “celestial amulet” player in this game and atleast go 50/50 win percentage. From a world champion I would advise you to rethink your team composition and tighten up on your rotations before blaming everything on a “amulet”. Also look at your individual player skill, and ask yourself do you honestly believe you can go toe to toe with players such as the Abjured and Absurd.
Now, do I believe celestial could have a few percentages shaved off the total stats? Yes. Does it need to be totally deleted? No. I believe hybrid builds should exist, although they shouldn’t be the most powerful in any stat. They should utilize defensive and offensive tactics in order to be successful. Which I believe they do well now, but could use just a little toning down(not much since I can beat them as a zerker amulet.)

I don’t GvG very often, but I did a few yesterday and a few people told me that scepter isn’t necessarily very popular even in 15v15 GvGs.
Is there a reason to that or do pick comps normally never encompass eles? Do guilds lack a sufficient amount of ele players to allocate some to staff, d/d, and scepter? Just wondering how that works because it seemed interesting.

1) Implement a way to pause the game
2) Have all players protect their IPs. Even the biggest games like league of legends have rampant DDOSers in the challenger scene, so it’s not anything new.
