Cannon phase bugs:
- Getting “headshot” by the projectiles.
- The AoE circles don’t accurately show the size of the AoE
- The AoE circles don’t accurately show WHEN you will get hit by the AoE, and the actual falling projectiles don’t necessarily do this either
- The AoE circles aren’t always placed where the cannons will even land
- [insert more bugs regarding the AoE indicators]
- The camera sometimes randomly moves into the walls, or the ceiling, preventing you from seeing what’s going on.

Are you sure it’s only possible with the Executioner’s Axe? (In any event, that still makes the path soloable, albeit not under our self-imposed solo ruleset for records)

I don’t really play Ele much (something I plan to change… eventually), but it’s my impression that it’s still possible. Maybe they’re just using Executioner’s Axe. Has anyone tried leading with FGS for movement, as well as pre-placing medical packs (with clerics+water runes, obviously), along with good RNG when the orb starts ticking?

I’ll approve (or reject it if it violates the rules!) this tomorrow, or later today if I have the time.

While it’s one thing to criticize “bad” records, I think they’re a good thing. It promotes interest, both from the teams doing those casual records, as well as anyone who decides to beat them. Teams seem to be very content to just leave spots on the leaderboard empty, but then clamor to get a better time once someone actually posts a record.

Some paths have gimmicks that require multiple players, such as CoEp123, Arah p1/p4, CoFp12, etc. But other than that, most can be soloed with enough practice.

Arah P4 is soloable. An ele can solo Simin with some great RNG (as well as every other part of the path, obviously). Someone has even done it and posted a video awhile back, after the might nerf (iirc) and before the 6/23 trait changes. I don’t see it being viable on any other class besides ele, though, as you need extreme DPS in concert with good RNG in concert with insane mobility (FGS).

On a theoretical basis, CoF P2 is soloable. I’m not sure if it can be done in reality, though. Maybe by some insane Mesmer tricks for the bomb part? The

Most dungeons can be soloed. However, they’re designed for a full party, and thus are extremely difficult to solo. They will be even more difficult with suboptimal builds, and even more difficult still if you don’t know the dungeons and all of their mechanics like the back of your hand.

Not all of these are soloable by all classes. The difficulty in soloing each of these will vary hugely.

AC Story (great starter solo dungeon for any class), AC P1, AC P2, AC P3, CM Story, CM P1, CM P2, CM P3, TA Story, TA Forward, TA Up, SE Story, SE P1, probably SE P2 but it’s buggy as hell and the last boss fight would be very hard solo, SE P3, CoF Story, CoF P2 (theoretical), HotW Story, HotW P1, HotW P2, HotW P3, CoE Story, Arah P2, Arah P3, and Arah P4. Many fractals, especially at lower levels, are readily soloable as well.

So basically, everything except TA Atherpath, CoF P1, CoF P3, CoE P1, CoE P2, CoE P3, and Arah P1 are soloable. At least by some class, or at least theoretically.

I guess you could watch the reset of Indomitable Courage (since Absolute Resolution doesn’t matter that much) by looking at the Guardian’s buffs bar, since if he/she uses it for Aegis/Stability losing the passive effect and then swaps it off, the “Virtue of Courage” passive buff will be reset and appear again.

Yeah, but there’s also the possibility of that being from using Renewed Focus. So you’d have to look for the last usage of their elite skill or have a clear view of the guardian from one POV at the time the passive was reset.

Even if ‘challenging group content’ is extremely disappointing, I doubt I’ll be quitting the game. The fractal changes are probably enough to keep me interested, along with solos/duos/trios of existing instanced content.

With that said, I have hope that the announcement will be great. ANET might crush that hope again like they did when they said ‘no new dungeons’, but I hope not.

Possible Spoiler: New world bosses. Thought 1111ing Teq was fun? We’ve got new world bosses with mildly challenging mechanics that nearly every open world map will eventually be able to complete with some basic organization even 5 minutes before the event starts. Don’t worry, you’ll still get rewards even if you die near immediately and sit there dead for the rest of the fight.

Possible Spoiler: Extremely linear instanced raid type content that any random party of N members can eventually complete for the same rewards as organized groups get. Some sort of time gate on rewards so that organized groups can’t get more just due to ability to repeat more in the same amount of time. Ideally N should be very large so that the contribution of any individual skill is minimized, and the ‘difficulty’ is merely basic coordination. Lots of cutscenes that cannot be skipped, dialog that cannot be skipped, and extremely simple and boring puzzles that involve no combat or anything else that’s interesting once you’ve solved them the first time.

Prove me wrong, ANET. Please prove me wrong.

Absolute Resolution also resets the F2.

As for detection… You could do it if you had the Guardian’s POV, watched for trait swapping, and timed how much longer the cooldown on the F2/F3 ‘ought’ to be. But detecting it without the Guardian POV is unlikely to happen without applying some extremely serious (likely unrealistic) scrutiny to the boons of everyone in the party throughout the entire run duration (in the case of the F3), and even less likely in the case of the F2.

It would be very strange to reject a record because a Guardian did some trait swapping between bosses and used an F2 or F3 again a few seconds before they ‘ought’ to have been able to use it. Luckily, Mesmers are superior for records, so I doubt this will happen.

Ravi and I are not the same person. (I know, I know, shocking right?). Due to real life, Ravi felt he might not be able to dedicate enough time to approving records, and as such resigned since he didn’t want to neglect said duties. I took over (as of a few hours ago).

I don’t think too many approvers from the same guild is much of an issue based on this community and the structure of the records system, but I can understand the concern raised regarding influence. Better safe than sorry, I suppose.

I don’t think it would be a good idea to have a lock after engaging the final boss, either. Doing so makes it impossible to sell fractals, which makes fractal low-mans much less appealing.

Furthermore, it should be legitimate to simply kick a player who has decided to full AFK the final boss fight. Or who is not remotely useful in a struggling group because they get agony 1-shot. Or who has decided to, instead of participating in the fight, simply insult other team mates for their supposed lack of skill. Et cetera.

Legitimate kicks happen far more often than abusive kicks. Any solution to the rare problem of abusive kicks should not have a disproportionate impact on legitimate kicks.

Nice solo. Props for sticking with it despite the terrible RNG you’ve probably experienced.

I’ve been casually attempting a Swamp (Bloom) and a Swamp (Mossman) solo record on Mesmer for a short while now. That Swamp RNG… It was really disheartening to end most attempts after rolling swamp and seeing how the wisps were rolled.

She goes invulnerable and disappears both when she reaches 50% life (from a higher % life), as well as on a 45 second timer if below a certain % life). Let’s just say that certain % is 65% (maybe it is, maybe it isn’t).

So if you take her from 65% to 50%, she disappears eventually (you can get her below 50%… with very high DPS you can even kill her outright before she disappears). She heals while doing this. If you are very slow at kiting the sparks, and/or don’t get her down much below 50% life, she can heal above the threshold (which we’re calling 65%). Then, once you get her back to 50%, she’s going to disappear. This can cycle if you continue to be slow at kiting sparks and/or don’t get her down much below 50% by the time she disappears.

This is not a bug. It’s a feature. ANET saying is that your group’s coordination is unacceptably poor, and you can’t pass go, your group’s DPS is unacceptably poor and you can’t pass go, or both.

ONE PLAYER in full damage gear can output enough damage to do this, providing one other player helps kite sparks. A full party ought to be able to output greatly more damage, and kite the sparks much faster.

Looking for help pugging lvl 31+ fractals

For reward tier 31-40:

37 and 40 – Best. These instabilities are practically “no meaningful effect whatsoever” (in the case of 40, you do need to have appropriate AR though).

36 and 38 – Okay. These are the second best. For whatever reason, pugs tend to do 38 over 37 even though it makes zero sense whatsoever. My guess is they have no idea how the 37 instability actually works.

You’ll find the most competent pugs at 37 and 40. The second most competent pugs will be found at level 38. I would strongly advice staying away from 36, as all the pugs who play that level seem to be especially bad at fractals.

For reward tier 41-50:

49. You only need 55 AR. A bit slower than 50, but not by much if you have a good team. Random dodging is bad on 49. Low DPS groups are also bad, because that means you need to dodge more, which lowers your DPS more still. If your notice your team has low DPS or is random dodging a lot in the first fractal, or they want to pull Mossman into the water it’s probably a good idea to just find a new 49 group because it’ll be faster than your multi-hour epic adventure if you roll any remotely challenging fractals.

50. Ideal.

You’ll find the most competent pugs at 50. You need 70 AR, though.


As for full ascended, as long as you have the needed AR (and please, none of that “but I only have the AR when I am on [insert suboptimal weapon to camp set here]!”), it really doesn’t matter. Weapons have the biggest impact on damage, followed by trinkets, followed by armor.

I’m not sure we should just have a high end event. PvP has ESL, but they also have AcademyGaming (I won’t talk about the abomination known as PUGQuest). The AG format bars ESL teams from participating, and also bars the winner of a previous AG from participating for the tournament following their win.

AG is more casual friendly. It gives more casual players a chance to have fun competing, and have a shot at winning. Theoretically, it also promotes successful players/teams from moving up from AG to ESL, but obviously the dynamics of the GW2 PvP community are such that it simply doesn’t happen.

I think the dynamics of our instanced PvE community are different, and a regular low-to-mid end event might, over time, seriously increase the number of people and the interest of people in participating in higher end events. The question is how to interest people in said events. It’s pretty simple. Direct advertising, casual-friendly format, and prizes. Direct advertising just takes work. However casual-friendly the format is balances with how good the prizes are. The prizes should be structured not just so “top teams take all”, but also with some “bonus” prizes that don’t necessarily go to the top teams. How about a prize for most impressive comeback? How about a prize for “brilliancies”? Et cetera.

Survivability

My advice is to really work on learning the mechanics of each enemy/fight you’re having trouble with.

If you know the mechanics well, and know the Guardian well (i.e. how to make best use of all of your blocks, projectile defense, blinds, and evades), you’ll take almost no damage at all. Until then, you’ll feel quite glassy. The first step is learning the mechanics, and the second step is learning how to best react to them.

For blocks, you have:
Shelter
Mace #3
Focus #5
Virtue of Courage’s Aegis
Retreat’s Aegis

For evades you only have your dodges.

For blinds you have Virtue of Justice, GS#3, and Focus #4.

For projectile defense you have Wall of Reflection, Shield of the Avenger, and Sanctuary.

Last, for invulnerability, you have Renewed Focus. Renewed Focus not only is an invulnerability, but if you’ve already spent your Virtue of Courage when using it, you’re going to get that back AND get an Aegis the instant Renewed Focus ends. So, used right, this is an invulnerability + 1x blind + 2x Aegis skill.

Mind you, the Guardian has enough survival ability that you can not use half of this stuff and still have more survivability than some other classes. You can easily drop Renewed Focus most everywhere (For “Feel My Wrath!”) and be fine, just as you can not rely on the Focus for blinds/blocks, and instead just use Focus #5 at the start of fights for extra damage before you swap to Torch.

No. There’s just an unrestricted category, which is any number of players from 1 to 5 following the unrestricted ruleset.

That’s why it won’t show up anywhere unless you have it enumerate all of the recent unrestricted records, because there’s a better time from a 5 man group (SC).

That 5 man group follows the restricted ruleset in the run, but because the restricted ruleset is a subest of the unrestricted ruleset, restricted runs automatically compete for unrestricted.

You do realize a simple “no there’s no unrestricted duo” category would have sufficed, right?

Or you were somehow coordinated enough to immobilize/chill him in the bubble phase while at the same time uncoordinated enough to spend 10 years fighting the elementals, to the point you somehow all got OOC with him and he reset. Odds heavily in favor of the aforementioned scenario, and not this one.

Two portals is better at that part of Cliffside.

You can use the portal trick to kill the arm seals very quickly. You can modify it to be a bit slower (but not requiring any kind of good group coordination) if you have a clueless PUG group.

You can then blink straight to the room containing the second Archdiviner, providing a portal to there for your team. If you’re in a PUG, probably best to meander a bit and stack behind the normal brazier before you drop the exit.

You should add in something saying they should have read the LFG, too.

That way when they join and are clueless, you can tell them the LFG acronym they didn’t know about and violated was also violated because they didn’t read the LFG and joined anyway.

Additionally, are you saying that I wouldn’t be welcomed if I joined and wanted to play a condition Guardian? Or would it be okay if I played a condi guard in zerk instead of sinister?

My rationale was mostly that pugs who don’t know about the burning build yet are pretty much clueless, and pretty much clueless pugs aren’t going to be able to tell the difference between a meta DPS guardian and a meta burning guardian. They use the same weapon sets, very similar rotations, and basically 2 of the 3 utility skills will be shared in any case (and often 3/3 since purging flames is pretty good anyway). They also won’t notice the DPS difference.

Those that aren’t clueless, probably know about it already, and thus aren’t an issue.

If you’re running the meta burning guardian build, you should be absolutely fine. The DPS is comparable (read: a bit worse) in single-target situations (nearly every meaningful fight in dungeons), and actually a bit better in trash fights (which basically don’t matter, but still). See Obal’s stickied thread for the build. Of course, if you’re running a sub-par burning build (in terms of DPS output, not in terms of your enjoyment obviously), you’re probably not welcome in the most demanding pugs, but you’d surely be welcome in an ‘all welcome’ group or similar, and there are plenty of those groups.

Just don’t neglect your role as a Guardian. Bring useful utility skills for your team and use them appropriately (projectile defense, stability, etc.), grant Aegis where appropriate, and so on and so forth. While they’re written from the perspective of a non-burning Guardian, basically everything in the following guides I’ve made still apply (just make sure you take Purging Flames as a burning Guardian!):

I suppose. I just dont think anyone would care to use the feature. Most are only concerned with current records. And the only all times people care about are the true all time records. As in never been done faster on any version of the game or ruleset.

Anyone who is doing serious analysis of existing tactics for a path in preparation for trying for a record on that path might want to use it. (Just like they might want to be able to see all submitted records, even ones that were beaten)

For example, if you look at a bunch of Arah p1 records, you’ll notice that the start time to the first door open time varies by a handful of seconds. This alone wouldn’t be obvious initially, unless you were looking at different attempts for your group and timing this point for each of them.

But then that raises a question. Is speeding this up just RNG, or is there something specific going on (accidentally) for those groups? You can form some hypotheses from footage, and test them out with your group.

Is a lot going to be terribly useful? Not really. Boss kill times will be pretty meaningless, although it has to be a great morale boost should you manage to kill a boss faster than people killed it in the past with FGS, for example. But skip times and tactics could still be interesting to take note of. How puzzles are solved could be interesting to take note of. And so on and so forth. Heck, even if you just see some strategies that are less efficient than the current one, it could give you an idea for something even better.

Mace is already absurdly good.

How on earth do you think that it’s “kinda lack luster”? Especially compared to Sword, which got nerfed into the ground (removal of Powerful Blades as a trait) at the same time Mace got a buff from Symbolic Avenger?
