How do I counter a perma-evade thief?

Both D/D and Staff “perma”-evade Thieves aren’t in an evade frame for the entirety of the time.

Don’t facetank their attacks. Kite and dodge. If absolutely necessary, kite off the point.

CC them (hard CC or Immobilize), or hit them with condis, while they’re not in an evade frame, or while they’re casting Channeled Vigor. Both “perma”-evade builds have a ton of windows where they’re not in an evade frame.

This has been reported enough that it’s no doubt on their internal bug tracker. However, there has been no public communication about this. No idea if a fix is incoming, and if a fix is incoming, when.

Basically, always be ready to type /no (the “no” emote is faster to type than dance!).

An easy way to show in-game that McLoed is NOT a boss would be to downgrade him from a “Legendary” to a “Champion” type portrait.

Similarly, Berg, Zane, and Narella in the Bandit Trio event could also be downgraded to Champions, since they are not bosses, even though they are more powerful than typical trash mobs.

I don’t think anyone could reasonably expect an event where the hardest encounter is from a mere Champion to be considered a boss, especially since all of the actual bosses are Legendary.

PSA: If you do “Love Is Bunny” every time, there’s a 4th chest that spawns in the maze. Or so I’ve heard.

So if the chance is ~6.5% per chest (based on actual drop rate data), you’d have a ~23.6% chance of getting it every week with the extra chest, instead of a mere ~18.3% chance of getting it every week.

With 4 chests, you can expect a 91% chance to have it drop in 9 weeks. You can expect a 99.9% chance for it to drop in 26 weeks. In 52 weeks, you can expect a 99.9999% chance for it to drop.

Good luck with the RNG. May RNGsus be with you.

Get Ascended gear by crafting, fractals, or raiding once you know how to raid.

It will be vastly more expensive to obtain ascended gear via buying raid slots than it would be to craft.

LOL. This is saying “OH yah it’s casual if you are a hardcore player”

Love these kinds of posts.

Casual players put in the time and effort for a lot of things in this game. Complete the Tarir meta event 100 times? I’m not even close. But there are casual players who have easily completed this, and then some.

How is that possible? Oh, they put in time and effort. They just put it into a different area of the game. If they had put that time and effort into raiding, they’d be seasoned raiders with kills on at least all of the wing 1 and wing 2 bosses.

Raids are already casual-friendly if you put in the effort. You might not clear a wing for awhile with a casual schedule, but you’ll get there eventually.

Read guides and watch videos. This will speed up how long it takes to learn each boss dramatically.

Then spend some time, at your leisure, attempting a chosen boss. If you run out of time, you say goodbye to the group and log off. Repeat again at your leisure.

The only difference between this approach, and the approach used by casual players for literally everything else in the game, is that you probably won’t succeed sometime on your first 3 attempts. It’ll take more failure.

What incredibly important niche do the high-cooldown people imagine this item replacing? I hear the fire and brimstone, but no concrete examples.

A five or ten minute cooldown seems reasonable to me.

This is an excellent question.

As a Mesmer main and the OP of this thread, I can’t think of a single example where my suggested changes would cause people to stop bringing Mesmer in any situation. Since the concern seems to focus around obsoleting Mesmer via mimicry of one of its “unique” skills (ignoring the fact that’s false because Watchwork Portal Devices and Experimental Teleportation Guns exist), it’d be really great to hear of cases where what the proponents of this are claiming is the case might actually be the case.

Permanent to temporary item cost ratio:

White Mantle Portal Device -105

Permanent Bank Contract – 339

Permanent Black Lion Merchant Contract – 115

Endless Repair Contract – 105

Permanent Hair Stylist Contract – 52

Permanent Trading Post Express Contract – 98

Interestingly, the WM portal device is literally at the median value for permanent item to temporary item cost ratio. As a note, it’s also more difficult to obtain, given that those other items are all obtainable with only gold, which can be earned from literally anything in the game, whereas the WM Portal Device can only be obtained with raid currency by those who have beaten the 3rd boss of the 3rd raid wing.

As such, it’s already comparable in cost to all of these items listed above. I’m not sure why it would then make sense to take actions to further increase its cost to justify it having less of a cooldown, given that it’s already in the same league as these permanent items which share the same cooldown as their temporary variants (and as such, by this reasoning, the cooldown ought to be a mere 90 seconds, not the 5 minutes suggested in the OP).

Furthermore, the Executioner’s Axe Toy is much cheaper than the White Mantle Portal Device, and has a mere 3 second cooldown on the #2 skill, which is a skill that can singlehandedly outclass the combined movement skills of any class in the entire game.

Given this information, is it really too much to ask for a 5 minute cooldown on this item? Really, is it?

Yes, it’s all consumables. Yet every single one on that list save for the Experimental Rifle can be used in instanced content. You not knowing this suggests to me that you’re not actually part of what I’d consider to be the Dungeon & Fractal community, since nearly all of what I listed are very widely known consumables.

20 shards for a single use device that’s identical to WW portals would be better than the current device. Although, obviously, the value would still be very low because it’d simply be equivalent to watchwork portal devices, which have abysmally low value and hence why no one ever uses them under any circumstances.

Wait, I was supposed to refuse your alternative suggestion since I, as a Mesmer main, clearly just want a “pocket permanent Mesmer portal for cheap”, even though Mesmer is a lot more than just portals, can put out vastly more portals than my suggested WM Portal Device, and the cost of either my or your suggested devices are quite expensive in terms of gold equivalence, and even more expensive when looking at time to gold equivalence (where you could just farm Ectovine, and make vastly more WW portals than you could get WM portals for the same time spent… and of course there’d be no weekly cap on how many WW portals you could make, whereas WM portals would cap out at 5 under your suggestion).

I don’t plan to respond to your future posts, Rednik, unless you can come up with some actual solid reasoning or argumentation. As-is, you’re saying the same stuff repeatedly without backing it up, while mostly ignoring the issues others have pointed out with your claims.

It’s still too close to mesmer, especially for unique class mechanic. Basically, he is asking for pocket mesmer, which is unacceptable.

Experimental Teleportation Gun – 30s Cooldown.

Watchwork Portal Device – 90s Cooldown.

The portal mechanic has already been duplicated by other consumables which are better value than the White Mantle Portal Device. Suggesting that a very high cost raid reward should at least have value on-par with those items is far from “unacceptable”. On the contrary, it makes sense.

Other classes have had unique mechanics duplicated, replicated, or improved by consumables or even certain entire skill categories outclassed by consumable items.

Experiemental Rifles are much better than Jump Shot (Engineer Skill).

Executioner’s Axe Toy #2 is the best movement skill in the game, bar none.

Harpy Feathers, Ash Legion Spy Kits, and Order of Whispers spy kits duplicate the Stealth mechanic.

Medical Packs and Medical Kits duplicate Engineer Medical Packs.

Fire Elemental Powder replicates Lesser Fire Elemental (elementalist skill).

Ogre Pet Whistle replicates a ranger pet.

Golem in a Box is the longest range skill in game, beating Engineer Mortar Kit by 100 range.

I could keep going.

And yet, none of these seem to create a problem that replaces classes, or creates a “[insert class here] in a box”. They barely even get used, despite a cost that’s almost invariably less than a few silver each (aside from the Executioner’s Axe Toy). Watchwork Portal Devices don’t create a “Mesmer in a box”, and they’re better than the WM Portal Device.

The White Mantle Portal Device is vastly more expensive, and vastly more exclusive than any of those. Why would you expect it to be a problem, when none of this other stuff, including Experimental Teleportation Guns and Watchwork Portal Devices, are a problem?

All my mesmers says no. A toy is just a toy, and never should be more than that.

It’s a raid reward that costs 1000 Magnetite Shards (10 weeks of shard-capped raiding), and with an equivalent value to 453 gold. If it were to cost a mere 100 shards, I’d agree with you.

Comparing it to an actual “toy”, the Executioner’s Axe Toy, which costs just under 222 gold at current gold:gem exchange rates, the WM Portal Device value is quite bad. The Executioner’s Axe Toy offers an incredible movement speed buff on a very short cooldown. For less than half the price of the White Mantle Portal Device. Oh, and you get a very cool outfit with the Executioner’s Axe Toy, too. Oh, and you also get to use your toy in Costume Brawl.

As a Mesmer main, buffing the WM Portal Device as I’ve suggested will not detract from the value that a Mesmer brings to instanced group content (or anywhere else, for that matter). Mesmer can provide vastly more portals (~1 portal every 30s with Mimic, Continuum Split, and Portal, so ~10 times as many portals as my suggested buff to the WM Portal Device), longer duration portals (when traited), and also provide unique value with their elite specialization with massive amounts of Quickness, and also Alacrity.

Mesmer isn’t going anywhere, and a WM Portal Device that’s buffed to have legitimate value for the cost has no comparison to what a Mesmer can provide a party, and as such, is not even remotely a threat to Mesmers. To say nothing of the fact that very few people will buy the buffed device, again, because of the high cost and the fact they could otherwise buy a +5 Power Ghostly Infusion and use the gold they get on quite a lot of other things.

Note to the moderators: this thread relates to a raid reward for wing 3. As such, it belongs here, and not somewhere else. Please don’t move it.

The concept of the White Mantle Portal Device is great—an alternative, reusable, portal item replacing teleportation guns (consumable, open world only) and watchwork portal devices (consumable, works in dungeons/fractals). On concept alone, it’s an extremely cool raid reward.

However, the execution of the item is less than stellar. Given the high cost of the item, I actually regret buying it. I’d first like to compare it to Watchwork Portal Devices.

Both unequip if hit. The White Mantle Device can be equipped in combat, whereas the Watchwork Device cannot. The White Mantle Device has a 30 minute cooldown (can be reduced by 27 minutes with Adrenal Mushrooms), whereas the Watchwork Device has a 90 second cooldown. Both set Mesmer portal cooldown to 35 seconds (can be used to reduce portal cooldown… clearly, not a lot of thought went into this initially for Watchwork Devices, and this was just copied over for the White Mantle Device).

The White Mantle Portal Device is worth a gold-equivalent (using +5 Power Ghostly Infusion as a value reference) of 453 gold. A player can make 105 Watchwork Portal Devices for this price. Sans cheesing the cooldown with Adrenal Mushrooms, that means a player would need to play for at least 52.5 hours (assuming they use the WM device on cooldown) to get the same value out of the White Mantle Device that they would out of Watchwork Devices.

Basically, I’d suggest that Watchwork Portal Devices have better value than the White Mantle Portal Device. Especially given that you can make them slowly, and use the remaining gold (assuming you’re making them with gold obtained from selling a +5 Power Ghostly Infusion) to profit on the TP. And it should be noted, no one uses Watchwork Portal Devices because of their unquestionably terrible value, so it’s pretty bad if they have better (or even similar) value/perceived value to the White Mantle Portal Device.

In order to make the White Mantle Portal Device feel worthwhile and useful, here are my suggestions:

1) Reduce the cooldown to 5 minutes. 30 minutes is far too long for the item to be and feel useful. I would imagine that most of us buying this item are raiders (duh!), and plan to use it to help people out within other instanced content (dungeons and fractals), but the 30 minute cooldown is extremely prohibitive to this purpose (unless we go find a adrenal mushroom between every dungeon and fractal… or two adrenal mushrooms, which is an annoying and silly workaround).

2) Remove the unequip on hit from the White Mantle Portal Device. Half of the use of this for me is to help people get past skips in dungeons, which they can’t get past on their own, without swapping to a Mesmer (or without putting portal on your bar as a Mesmer, when you really want different skills without waiting for the CD because your party was inexperienced). The unequip on hit, along with it replacing weapon skills, makes it a lot less useful for this purpose.

3) Allow us to uneqip the White Mantle Portal Device after an entrance portal is placed, and then re-equip it later on to place an exit portal (within the 60s window for placing an exit portal, of course). If no exit portal is placed after 60s, do not put the portal entrance skill on cooldown.

And of course, in order to prevent unintended behavior, have it works as follows with respect to Mesmer portals: if portal CD > 35 seconds, do nothing; else, set Mesmer portal CD = 35 seconds. Might as well copy this change to the Watchwork Portal Devices as well.

4. Raid records

Unanimous vote in favor of supporting raid records for entire wings, and for events within raids. The timer for full wing records will begin when the first player moves their character or uses a skill (the same as dungeon and fractal records). The timer on events which have their own timer will begin when that timer first triggers. If there is no independent timer for an event, the timer will start at first hit.

Unanimous vote in favor of supporting low man raid records.

Swapping characters is prohibited in raid records. SC, rT, LN, and Vs voted for strictly disallowing character swapping. No guilds voted for strictly allowing character swapping. KING, geek, and DnT voted for a split rule set, where one set would allow character swapping, and the other set would not allow character swapping.

5. Boss records (Fractal and dungeon bosses. Not raid bosses)

Boss record framework will not be developed at this time. Geek was in favor, but DnT, KING, LN, Vs, rT, and SC voted no.

6. Solo/Duo Record Ruleset Split Regarding Consumables

Unanimous vote to leave the solo/duo record rule set as it is. No changes will be made.

Overwatch has this, why not GW2?

Zui.9245

Guild Wars 2 has that feature. If you prefer a player instead of that player, just make a full premade team with players you like (from real life friends to ingame friends or guild mates). This works better than setting from Overwatch, because you have better control of who you desire, you can make friends and use even voice chat with them.

Sometimes people just want to soloq, but they don’t want the experience to be ruined by repeatedly being matched with extremely terrible or toxic players.

Doing that is already possible, via perverting your friends list and queue-dodging people you don’t want to play with. This is pretty cumbersome, clogs up your friends list with people you’d rather not have any contact with, and increases your queue times considerably (since you wait for their queue to pop, then you queue).

Adding a simple feature that lets you try to avoid those players without the cumbersome nonsense of using the “friends” list and queue dodging would be fantastic.

Adding a feature that makes you more likely to match with people you say you’d prefer to be matched with makes it more likely for people to make friends, and do exactly what you’re suggesting above, too.

In my opinion, ranked queue should force all teams to queue kitten man premades, as it would help to transformed Ranked from what it is now (a slight step above hotjoin, aka still not a serious competitive game mode at all), into an actual serious competitive game mode. But borrowing this solution from Overwatch would be a step in the right direction, and one that’s much more in keeping with ANET’s desire to keep ranked PvP very casual-friendly (and honestly… it’s more casual friendly than unranked, since it’s the exact same thing but with better rewards and divisions that create an illusion of meaningful progression as a player).

Compressing AoEs is banned, unless it’s them being compressed solely due to terrain features. This is why no one is speaking out against this.

Which is pretty reasonable, since if compression due to terrain was banned as well, that would cause some serious issues when fighting some bosses, and probably devolve into “that specific corner compresses the AoE too much! Bad! Compared to this other corner..”, or worse yet, prohibitions against using AoEs that can be compressed due to terrain any time they might be compressed even a little bit by said terrain.

Dear Moderation Staff,

Can we get this moved back to the “Fractals, Dungeons & Raids” and raids subfourm?

This is not an in-game event. It’s a meeting that will occur on a voice chat software. The only ‘in-game" portion of this is that it effects some players in-game, when they’re doing Fractals, Dungeons & Raids records.

This is not an open community event, either. Nor is it something that anyone who visits this subfourm will be able to participate in, since one needs to have actually participated in records to attend.

It’s exclusively referencing the records ruleset for Fractals, Dungeons & Raids.

As such, it belongs in the Fractals, Dungeons & Raids sub-fourm, not here, where no one relevant will ever see it again.

As a note, I wouldn’t have to appeal to you guys in the text of this thread if there were some way to contact you directly, perhaps in regards to the “we moved your thread” notice.

Proposed GW2Dungeons Record Community Meeting

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zui.9245

Zui.9245

Note to participants: see my most recent post regarding a change of date/

It’s been awhile since the last community meeting, and a good number of things regarding instanced content have changed. As such, I propose a new community meeting. Here’s my proposed agenda. Please feel free to suggest additional agenda items, or even suggest that some of my proposed items do not need to be discussed.

1. Fractal records.

Due to the massive overhaul of fractals, a fractal record reset (and record overhaul) is needed, which, due to past discussions, requires a community meeting. I see two viable ways to create a new system:

(a) Every fractal scale is record-eligible. This would allow for anyone to compete, regardless of AR. However, it would also likely lead to people doing multiple scale records for the same shards.

(b) Only the highest fractal scale for each fractal shard is record-eligible. This would effectively restrict competition to only those with heart of thorns and high AR. As such, it would go against past precedent when fractal records were at level 49, due to the AR to compete at level 50 being considered prohibitively expensive. But of course we can go against precedent, and this would prevent a group from say, doing every Mai Trin shard and posting records for each scale.

2. Legendaries in sub-80 dungeons.

With the introduced scaling changes, legendaries are not being downscaled as they once were. As such, having a legendary weapon can increase damage by 10+% in some dungeons. Do we prohibit legendaries from being used in records, or do we leave it as-is?

On one hand, prohibiting legendaries would allow the competition to be more egalitarian, just like prohibiting gem store items. After all, it requires a considerable amount of gold and time to obtain a legendary, which is a barrier to entry that the ruleset has historically tried to minimize.

On the other hand, those with legendaries would have make and use lower tier items, and it would be impossible to verify no legendaries were used unless more rigorous video requirements were put in place (which slightly goes against precedent of the system being based on trust, since there are numerous ways that someone could cheat).

3. Raid records.

Implementing raid records makes logical sense, but we’ll still need a meeting to decide how these should be set up. Some questions that need to be answered are:

(a) Should records be full-wing, specific events inside a wing, or both? If events, should all events be considered, or only those that grant legendary insights at their completion, and LI-only, should Trio be excluded because it’s a timegate which can only be sped up by killing Narerlla faster?

(b) Should low-man raid records be considered, or only full 10 man records?

4. Boss records.

Should the record ruleset be expanded to include boss records (e.g. Lupicus), and if so, what should the rules be?

5. Solo/Duo Record Ruleset (reg. consumables)

In one of the solo records awhile back, there was a discussion regarding this, and it seems like there’s still some differences of opinion regarding these. Should a split solo/duo ruleset exist that fully aligns with the trio+ ruleset? Should we even discuss this?

For attendees, players/guilds that hold and have previously held records (up to 5 per guild) are encouraged to attend and vote. I say “players”, because obviously some of the guilds that currently hold records aren’t around anymore, but the players are all still around and in a different guild. Furthermore, it’d be nice to have players who hold/have held solo/duo records attend if we are going to address #4 and #5.

If you’re interested in attending, please shoot me a PM.

As for a time, I tentatively propose Sunday, May 29th at 5:00 PM UTC (i.e. 17:00 UTC).

Elitism, a growing concern.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zui.9245

Zui.9245

Either we’re not getting the whole story, or your friend ran into some idiots of exceptional rarity looking to be carried at level 13.

If it’s entirely as you described this isn’t “elitism”, and it’s not a “growing concern”. Low-probability incidents happen, and you have not established this is anything other than a low-probability incident. Furthermore, the people who kicked your friend are most certainly not “elite” by any means, neither in terms of skill, nor in terms of AP. It’s long been accepted by actual elite players that groups that set an AP-requirement are really just scrubs with lots of AP who are looking to get carried; these groups are typically worse than groups without such requirements, and nearly always worse than groups that check competence another way (like a basic reading test, e.g. “ping aquabreather”).

If it’s not entirely as you described, then again, we’re not talking about “elitism”, nor is it a “growing concern”.

If you want to establish this as an actual issue, instead of a made-up issue that you’re complaining about on the fourms for some reason, you’re going to need to present more evidence of what occurred, or better yet, present evidence of it repeatedly occurring.

Then again, the extreme material/gold sink that 5 stat/5 AR infusions are is also pretty dumb.

Assuming everyone is running the correct build, yes, that gap is due to bad execution. Even if everyone isn’t running the exact right thing, that gap is largely due to bad execution.

So yeah, people aren’t using a solid DPS rotation, and/or they’re getting CCed by the smash or prison a lot, et cetera.

Gorseval & Slick Shoes?

It still works.

You super speed and slick shoes at the same time. Then you run around the hit box using forward and a strafe key, while rotating your camera so that you stay inside the hit box while you’re running. Try not to overlap any place with an active oil slick from slick shoes.

Magnetite: Per-Wing Cap

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Shards is way more rewarding than the chance of loot at each boss.

As it currently is, you’re right.

The thing is, the design intent of ANET here is apparently that the loot from each boss is supposed to be the primary reward, whereas magnetite shards are a secondary reward for those unlucky in getting a specific desired primary reward. A system that the community has championed for awhile.

So it seems what people should be asking for is increased drop rates of Ascended gear at bosses, instead of a higher magnetite shard cap.

This is especially the case as I’d imagine another reason for the existing magnetite shard cap in concert at the rate they’re earned is another design decision; they don’t want people to repeatedly grind raids for magnetite shards, and that includes people who are struggling with raid clears / don’t have the kind of fast and efficient clears that elite guilds may have. It’s a smart way to extend the life of the content, and also a good way to make it such that people don’t feel “forced” to grind raids. (Of course, there isn’t much else in the game to do other than raid at the moment, which is unfortunate, but assuming that changes…)

I wish it performed on the lowest tier of salvaging. Then, I wouldn’t receive all those Sigils and Runes.

I remember when they “nerfed” it by actually increasing the recovery rate to what it’s supposed to be. Sad times

Correct.

Full Ascended Commander’s (sans backpack and amulet) gives +35.97% BD. Which gives +98.67% BD, with Chronomancer runes and full ascended gear.

It’s possible to get ascended Commander’s Amulets, Rings, and Accessories via raid rewards. Each costs 250 Magnetite shards, meaning it’d take approximately 7 weeks of capping on shards to get all of those items (also assuming you salvage some minis/armor to make up for the additional 50 tokens you need to hit 750).

As for Sigils of Concentration, just keep it on your main hand. Having one in both offhands would just double the cost, for no additional benefit.

You can see how they do it in the video. Basically, you can avoid triggering the flame orb “puzzle” and walk straight to the gate controller because nothing past that point has triggered, then kill the gate controller. Then you need to trigger the “puzzle” and complete it.

Updraft in sabetha fight

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Zui.9245

Zui.9245

You’re supposed to communicate with your team and have an awareness of the fight in order to avoid the flame wall. When Sabetha will use the flame wall attack is very predictable. The updrafts aren’t meant to save you from having poor communication with your team and/or poor fight awareness.

Instead, it’s been stated that they exist for those who experience delayed glider deployment due to lag, thus allowing them to (probably) not die.

Cheap way from anet to make people buy hot to get more rewards and earn more gold. Oh wait rewards are kitten nvm, better to run and cut trees in gendarran, so in the end you dont have to buy hot

You miss out on the Flax farm if you don’t buy HoT though. 50 silver per character per day, for maybe an additional 30 seconds per character.

And you get an additional fractal daily! Win!

From anecdote, it definitely feels like it’s considerably reduced compared to what the drop rate used to be.

Since no one has ever thoroughly tracked the drop rate of this, it’s not like we can say with any certainty if they nerfed the drop rate or not.

Maybe when they were re-doing the rewards for single fractal islands, it slipped their mind that the drop rate for this ought to be exactly the same as it used to be, and they instead divided the drop rate by 1000+ like they did with most of the other drop rates (or accidentally ran it through a convert percent to decimal function a few times, or whatever they did).

Maybe the drop rate is exactly the same as it used to be.

Enchanted Daggers hit SO Fractal boss

Zui.9245

Always kill all the Jade Colossi (fully complete the bar to get the fight into Phase 3) before doing anything that damages the Jade Maw (life leech).

Being able to life leech the Jade Maw is a very good thing. It allows you to slightly shorten some of the insane snoozefest of a time gate that the fight is. Life Leech its self is unlikely to even be a bug, because the boss is only supposed to be immune to physical damage and conditions, anyway. The bug is that the boss bugs out when you do it.

The only downside is that you can’t life leech in Phase 2 without risk of bugging the boss, thus shortening the snoozefest even more. Waiting for Jade Colossi to spawn so you can mow them down with trivial ease and repeat the process over and over again is not fun. Hopefully, ANET will not fix this bug (should a fix ever occur) by making life leech ineffective against the boss.
