Guardian is still going to be very good in PvE.
It’s hard to know precisely how the DPS of the Guardian will change, and what’s most important is how it changes relative to other classes. I’d wait until the patch actually hits and Dekeyz releases updated numbers before solidly concluding anything. Some things you’re thinking are issues (like Symbol Avenger) aren’t. Even if there were no other way to get might except blasting fire fields, it won’t be that hard to keep up might (just have to time things a little better), especially since most fights don’t even last long enough to have prestacked might drop off.
Even if DPS suffers a considerable nerf, the reason Guardian is taken is because of its god-tier level of support. If it were all about reducing path times, Mesmer would be the way to go (and is already the way to go in records). Guardian will still offer a god-tier level of support after the patch.
If Guardian ends up being the lowest DPS class in the game (and really, I doubt that will happen), you’re still going to see Guardians being desired in many groups. Their support is simply that good. Heck, I’d be surprised if even organized speedclear teams don’t still run a Guardian for a few paths in tours in that case. And if tome of wrath skill four becomes a shout with 30s cooldown like proposed, that’s pretty OP for a Guardian’s ability to boost party DPS.
Minor updates and corrections based on suggestions completed.
“That drop rate is…abysmally low”
Answered your own question.
Wait so this guy made a post earlier about kicking someone from his party for not knowing what to do in a path and now he’s complaining because he was kicked for not knowing a path?
Correct. And it’s for the exact same path in both cases, even!
now try to dodge mossman attacks while having engis spamming grenades and 3 mesmers on team spamming clones
Maybe we’ll get a particle effects slider with HoT.
Maybe we’ll even get two. One for allies, and one for foes.
I mean, this has been a requested feature since the betas, so maybe they’ve been working on it for a long time, especially since it’d be good for e-sports?
Also might worth noticing is that when I get knocked back by her, I always dodge before I use GS rush to prevent kitten like this from happening, but I’ve never seen the projectile so close to her before
From your post, it does sound like you may have actually experienced a bug with the projectile if she fired it while you were in melee range (and nothing else she would target was outside of melee range).
With that said, dodging like you’re doing is utterly pointless, and if you’re dodging in toward her is one of the ways you can end up killing yourself via projectile tracking. Instead, you should try to predict the knockback arrow and dodge that (it’s not perfectly predictable, but you can predict it more often than not) because getting knocked back is a big DPS loss, and since you have plenty of extra dodges, you could dodge some of her autos as well if you really felt like it (although there’s barely any need on warrior if you’re at max melee, gogo healsig).
I’d additionally recommend that you take signet of rage over warbanner, drop shake it off for signet of stamina (with average RNG and good play plus stamina signet, you’ll only need to run out to reset your health once), and take FGJ. Your call on whether you want to take banner of discipline or signet of fury (with good play, banner will be superior).

Like most projectiles, it tracks player movement. Which means if you move towards her as she is firing the projectile, it can land much closer, such as right on her. This is a novice mistake that generally occurs after someone gets knocked back by her.
With that said, the projectile is also buggy. However, this occurs very extremely rarely (I can’t overemphasize how rare this is) so there’s nearly a 100% chance that your problem is the intended projectile tracking, and not the bug with the projectile.
I guess its an exploit but…..
I’ve been hit so many times by the canons mid air when im not even in the aoe, or they land somewhere outside where the aoe shows they will land. Its not really that the canon phase is hard, it’s just so annoying and often times it depends on what the rest of your group does. i.e. When im with frands it goes fine because we all know to move as little as possible and spread out, or to stealth in the corner and have one person kite. When im with pugs they don’t understand how to blast, or all of them run into stealth and mai rests, and they don’t understand how to not run like a chicken.
I mean outside of the dying in the canon phase, when else do people relog? My group always makes an active effort to rez anyone who goes down when mai is actually fighting us, its only the canon phase where we can’t.
Exactly.
The cannon phase has many issues, including headshots (good luck predicting what cannon corresponds to each circle to avoid this), inaccurate circles, inconsistent time from circle appearance to damage, and bugs where the camera goes into the ceiling so you temporarily lose vision, etc.
It is just a poorly designed buggy timegate. It should not exist.
Nice run, congrats.
I must say I am somewhat disappointed to see another Cliffside record without any portal-sploits, but I still enjoyed watching this.
@Enko, I’m pretty sure you could do the chest seal on just the first chanters, but the execution would be quite tricky. Cleave is too OP.
They are what were found in the game files. It seems Mossman has 2 IDs for some reasons.
Probably one for the normal one in Swamp and a second one for the one that spawns, attacks and despawns in the wisp area and in FotM 31s. The normal one doesn’t have underwater attacks while the one in FotM 31s does.
Lol, if they even have designed underwater skills for mossman, why dont they just let him use those skills when people want to bug him?
I’m pretty sure the Mossman that appears on the ‘Mossman suddenly appears’ instability uses his underwater skills.
The required boss, though? Nah, too hard to make him use the skills.
Amazing work. Thank you.
By the way… what about fractals? Any plans regarding them?
Definitely.
Expect something in the future. Exactly when in the future is hard to say, though.
I’m pretty sure that rule is about using the same skill twice. So it would be OK to use Wall, refresh the CD, and swap it out for another skill, but not OK to use wall, refresh the CD, and use wall again before it would be off CD from the first use. Like Jerus said, it’s just swapping while available. And this is even less of a “possible violation” than what I’ve just described, which would certainly be fine under the text of the rule.
So this guide is for bad PvE PuGs?!
But still, some of the skills are just wrong and not only this, it over all isn’t that usefull.
Telling people what skills to bring is one thing, but if you dont tell them why you dont really help them.
~ The most arrogant Guard and Master of the Bane Signet
Thanks for the constructive post! /s
Which instances do you think the skills are wrong (other than AC p1 last boss, which I’m going to correct), and why?
Some people seem to be finding it useful. I am sure most Guardians who I see in PUG groups might find it useful. In any event, do you have any ideas on how to make it more useful?
As for the “why”, my hope is that can be inferred by the “role” section and a knowledge of the mechanics (which if not known, can easily be looked up on gw2dungons, which I’ve already encouraged people to visit). If you think there are instances where that cannot be done, I’ll take a look at it and clarify if necessary. I also wanted to try and avoid a long, wall-of-text type guide, because for the most part it seems like people don’t bother to read or use those types of guides much at all, except for the people who could and would have figured it out on their own eventually, and honestly, the guide is already pretty long (cumulatively) as it is at approximately 9000 words (~36 pages by the international page standard).
Absolute resolution have almost no reason to be there.
I can’t write a guide for everything from elite speedclears to extraordinarily slow runs, so yeah, in some runs Absolute Resolution is definitely overkill, but in what appears to be an “average” pug run in my estimation, it doesn’t appear to be overkill for many fights. As always, you need to use your own judgement as a Guardian as to how much support you need to provide.
Spike Corridor Gravelings…wall of reflection. I guess you may not have the time to remove it…but you do not need it for the fight.
Correct. You almost certainly won’t be able to swap it off, even in very slow groups. Plus, the gravelings are very easy (changing your utilities for them is probably a bit overkill as I have yet to see a group struggle with them), and you’re just going want Wall again for Kholer.
You can reflect the cone attack form Colossus Rumblus, but the Howling King??.
You can’t. Obvious copy/paste and forgetting to remove stuff error. I’ll correct it later today. Thanks for the catch!
Graveling Trap Event. You strategy is weird.
In terms of strategies for the event, the best way to do it is to let Detha (almost) solo. The second best way to do it is the middle trap method that I suggest, because it’s easier and a bit faster than the top right stack method.
Ghost Eater. No need for Purging flames. If your team have enough dps to kill him in one trap (what should happen) Shield of Avenger is useless.
The ectoplasmic ooze have an aura that applies vulnerability very quickly. Purging flames is nice to have for that, and because it’s a fire field.
The trap makes him vulnerable for 30 seconds. Wall lasts 12 seconds with MoC. Even if you charge the trap before you aggro, have someone else aggro, and double wall while using MoC, that’s 24 seconds. So in this (slow) case, Shield is still good, especially if some people aren’t standing such that they’re in/behind Wall. If you pull the boss to the trap before charging it (so you can charge it MUCH faster and don’t have to lure him there after it’s charged), Shield is even more useful.
Colossus Rumblus. You should add…
I’ll consider it. Part of my hope here by just listing things like “Projectile Defense” is that, as suggested in the introduction section, people will go to gw2dungeons and look at the mechanics and try to figure out the reasoning behind every suggestion.
Frost. The projectile defense is for the turrets not the boss itself. So need need of that if you gonna agro him in a corner or something like that.
There isn’t really any reason to pull him if you have projectile defense, though, and a single Guardian definitely provides enough projectile defense.
Taylor. If someone get immo, the turret will continue to shoot at him until you destroy it.
The hope is that people will continue to proceed to the boss (only having been immobilized because they missed a dodge), where you will be providing projectile defense so they don’t get immobilized again. Repeat the same thing on the way out of the room.
Marius. I don’t know why Hallowed ground.
Hallowed Ground is for the trash at the top of the stairs, which have a knockback attack.
Lots of groups stealth across to the top of the stairs that has trash + turrets, and fight there. You can also just YOLO across, which I have done with pugs many times.

The Ruined City of Arah Path 2 (Continued)
Way to Alphard, Serpent of the Waves
Note: A Warrior or a Thief normally runs to get the waypoint. This section is only useful if you are going to run and get the waypoint. If you are going to do this run, use GS + Sw/F, dodge Deadeye Killshots, and double dodge / Shelter against the sharks. Maximize swiftness uptime.

Role: Projectile Defense (you don’t want projectile absorb; reflected projectiles deal a lot of damage), Quickness, Aegis (to keep up UC, or if it’s clear someone will die due to a projectile or you want to give them a longer reaction window on the lava fonts), Quickness, DPS
Weapons: GS + M/(F→T)
Recommended Skills & Traits: Shelter, Wall of Reflection, Retreat, Bane Signet, Feel My Wrath or Renewed Focus
Other: If someone is standing in the Jotun’kittenbox with a crystal, attack from max melee distance.

The Ruined City of Arah Path 1
Way to Ancient Ooze
Role: Swiftness, Projectile Defenses
Weapons: GS + Sw/F
Recommended Skills & Traits: Shelter, Retreat, Wall of Reflection, Save Yourselves (use only at start), Feel My Wrath or Renewed Focus
Other: When killing the Orrian Turrets, drop your Wall of Reflection only when all the turrets that will pose a threat during the skip to the Crystalline Entities are attacking you. Make sure your team stays back so no turrets aggro onto them, thus avoiding destruction.
Ancient Ooze
Note: Pull the Ooze by moving close to it so it aggros onto you, but do not attack the ooze.
Role: DPS, Quickness, CC/Interrupt
Weapons: GS + M/(F→T)
Recommended Skills & Traits: Shelter, Retreat, Wall of Reflection, Bane Signet, Feel My Wrath or Renewed Focus
Other: If you plan to interrupt the split, use Binding Blades when the health on the Ooze is just past the “z”. Pull when the ooze goes into the puddle form.
Way to Crystalline Entities
Role: Swiftness, Aegis (try to prevent allies from becoming crippled), Condition Removal
Weapons: GS + Sw/F
Recommended Skills & Traits: Shelter, Retreat, Purging Flames, Judge’s Intervention or Merciful Intervention, Absolute Resolution (Virtues M-C), Renewed Focus or Feel My Wrath
Other: It may be difficult to get out of combat before starting the skip. Don’t worry about this too much.
Crystalline Entities
Organized:
Use Shelter as your heal. Gather up the entities, and bring them to your team once they’re ready (a bunch of stacks + might). Your team will very quickly burst them down. Works best when Ice Bows are involved.
Unorganized:
Use Signet of Resolve as your heal, and trait Signet Mastery (Radiance II). Gather stacks, kite entities, and make sure you lose the buff before it kills you so you can eventually heal up and continue to kill them.
Way to Shoggroth (Tar Boss)
Role: Swiftness.
Other: Get set up for the Tar Boss.
Shoggroth (Tar Boss)
Note: The amount of burning, CC, and immobilize you will need to be responsible for will vary greatly with team composition. Know what other classes can contribute (and will likely contribute based on player experience).
Option #1: Normal
Role: Role: Burning, Projectile Defense, CC and Immobilize, Stability, Condition Clear, Quickness, DPS
Weapons: GS + Sc/(F→T)

Weapons: Hammer + Mace/Torch
Recommended Skills & Traits: Signet of Resolve, Purging Flames, Hallowed Ground, Wall of Reflection, Absolute Resolution (Virtues M-C), Renewed Focus
Way to Giganticus Lupicus
Role: Swiftness, Projectile Defense, DPS, Quickness, Blinds, Aegis
Weapons: GS + M/(F→T) or GS + Sw/(F→T) if party lacks blinds and DPS
Recommended Skills & Traits: Shelter, Retreat, Wall of Reflection, Bane Signet, Renewed Focus or Feel My Wrath
Other: Use Wall of Reflection (on the Elite Risen Hunter) and spam Virtue of Justice (F1) versus the risen trash mobs. Use Wall of Reflection to protect your team from Orrian Turrets and kill them. Use Blinds, Aegis, and Binding Blades to protect your team from the Undead Abominations / group them up so they are easier to cleave, as needed.

Introduction
About This Guide
This guide assumes that you, as a Guardian, are capable of making your own decisions regarding what traits to bring most of the time. If you’re unfamiliar with what meta trait setups for Guardian are, I suggest you check out Obal’s guide (http://dtguilds.com/forum/m/6563292/viewthread/12501056-dnt-guardian-build-12715).
This guide also assumes that you are capable of making your own decisions about what roles you most need to fill as a Guardian within a given group, as well as that you’re capable of figuring out what utilities you can safely burn at various fights.
Furthermore, one thing the guide doesn’t always mention is that if you can be buffing allies with Swiftness (Staff #3), you should do that, and if you can help blast (Hammer #2) smoke fields and fire fields, you should quickly swap to hammer to do that. Consider this part of your role throughout every dungeon.
I am not telling you that you have to play in any specific way. Play how you want. If you don’t want maximum efficiency, but still want more efficiency, learn what you want from this guide and ignore the rest for all I care.
How To Use The Guide
There are a bunch of ways you could use this guide. I think one of the more effective ways would be to have it up on a second monitor, or print it, and quickly refer to it the first few times you’re running through a dungeon. This will help you create “good habits” regarding your actions and utilities, instead of possibly forgetting something and getting in the habit of doing something that’s suboptimal.
Another suggestion is that you carefully read the guide, and try and figure out what certain things are suggested. You might want to consult www.gw2dungeons.net if you’re having trouble figuring it out. If you still can’t figure it out, feel free to ask me.
