Death/Downed Camera...

We had this death camera before. ANET removed it because it was trash. ANET has put it back in the game with the NPE patch. Odds of re-removal? Slim. It’s probably in the chineese client, and they want to keep the code bases as similar as possible…

This will only happen if you are selling Arah. Easy solution: stop selling Arah. No one’s going to do anything to stop this from happening to you because selling dungeon paths was never supposed to be part of the game in the first place.

I’m having trouble with your reasoning. I’m sure you thought before you posted (you did, right?), so perhaps you could explain the flaw in my understanding… Here it goes…

An AC P1 or P3 group is 3/5. It advertises it is at the last boss. Two people join, enter the dungeon, and kick everyone. They invite their 3 friends. They kill the last boss. Each has made 60 tokens and ~1.5 gold for virtually no work. This dungeon is not Arah, and the people who posted the LFG were not selling.

I can’t remember the last time I saw an LFG posted with only 3 members in it at the last boss aside from selling posts. If you really wanted to employ this method of making money you would be sitting around so long that you would probably make more money doing just about anything else instead.

It’s actually not that uncommon. You just need to be relatively fast and watching the LFG. Repeatedly opening and closing the entire LFG window to force a refresh of listed groups (before it would automatically refresh for you… the system doesn’t seem to dynamically update LFG postings, or at least doesn’t reliably dynamically update the postings…) also helps. I manage to find and actually join 2-3 groups each day for various dungeon paths that are more than 1/3rd complete with the dungeon already. The same can often be found for fractals, typically at the third (generally volcanic and if so always at the legendary imbued shaman) or fourth fractal (generally mai trin with the trash mobs already killed).

Plus, for hijacking and running part of the dungeon to be more profitable per time spent than running the dungeon properly, very little of the dungeon actually needs to be complete. Maybe an AC group isn’t at the last boss. Maybe they’re struggling with defending Hodgins at the burrows in p1, post-Kholer. Still profitable if you were going to run AC p1 with said group of friends, but noticed that post on LFG first? You bet, because you just skipped straight past Kholer for ~10 seconds of “work”.

Let’s try another one…

Let’s say the dungeon is Arah! One condition is met! But let’s say they’re part way through the dungeon and had some trouble at one of the bosses or skips, hence losing people (I had the luxury of joining a p2 group that was at Brie awhile back… they lost THREE people who tried to make the skip to her for a long time and repeatedly failed, eventually giving up). Let’s say this group is 1/5, 2/5, or 3/5. Let’s say two people merge party, and kick the original members after entering the dungeon. They now invite their friends, or not, and complete the path, either for their own personal reward, or to sell it. Now, the victims here weren’t selling. So that condition isn’t met. And yet, they faced the same abuse.

Let’s try a third, for good measure…

Let’s say I’ve soloed CM Path 3 on my Guardian, and want to give away the slots for free via the LFG. Again, let’s say it’s just two people who party merge. They enter the dungeon. Then they kick me and anyone else who joined via the LFG. They proceed to invite their friends, skip right to the end of the dungeon, and kill the last boss for 60 tokens and ~1 gold. I wasn’t selling the dungeon in this hypothetical, nor was the dungeon Arah. Yet, it still is advantageous for them to behave as the OP has suggested, and as you have dismissed.

I eagerly await you explaining why what I have suggested can happen is actually impossible, and hence only people selling Arah paths will be victimized. Thank you in advance for your reply highlighting my own flaw in understanding.

Yep, this was so bad it was removed. Now it’s back. It needs to go, again.

As a side note, it’d also be nice if the death camera remembered the max fov/zoom you could have when you were alive, so that if you’re dead on a boss where both of those values increase (say, lupi), you don’t revert to a kittentier-fov kittentier-zoom camera when dead.

That’s probably way too much to ask, though. Just (re)fix the camera rotating and tilting on its own when dead. Please. This alone could take until 2032 at the pace ANET works…

The AC P2 traps change was done when they supposedly attempted to fix Detha bugging out. Absolutely zero fix to Detha, in fact she seems to bug more often since that change, but it did change how she builds the traps when she doesn’t bug.

I’m not sure regarding any of the other potential P2 changes you mention. I haven’t really run the path since after they tried to “fix” Detha, and concluding it bugs way too frequently to ever be worth running until they actually fix the path.

Guardian and Elementalist are both highly desirable classes PUG-wise. Both seem quite effective at helping to carry your “average” PUG, and are capable of pulling their weight in organized groups as well.

Since you already have a Guardian at level 80, I’d suggest you just play Guardian, and decide if you want to also play Ele later.

Those are all new Renown Hearts added with the patch. They didn’t exist before, so that’s why they haven’t been completed.

Cattle prodding wasn’t a Renown Heart, but a Dynamic Event.

AFAIK they’re all pre-release hearts that were removed at some stage in development, actually. There used to be twice the number of hearts we have now.

This isn’t even new content. It’s recycled old content, that wasn’t deemed fit for release.

Merge WvW with sPvP

in WvW

Posted by: Zui.9245

Zui.9245

In principle, I agree.

The freedom of playing what you want in WvW is extremely limited, should you want to even begin to approach optimal.

As a level 80 zone, the best statistical gear is ascended, and it’s better by a decent margin, not only because the ~3% additional damage reduction and ~6% total damage boost, but also because of the insidious nature of WvW infusions (<3 laurel grind… oh wait, I kittening hate grind, nevermind), giving an additional boost that’s especially useful for roamers what will be engaging camps and maybe towers in small groups. Obviously, someone is now going to retort that ascended gear isn’t noticeable or something, but it most certainly is at a high enough level of play. (Also obviously, it’s a very minimal thing compared to exotics in non-80 zones because of how the downscale mechanic works… but WvW is an 80 zone)

Essentially, with the way gear works, grind is thoroughly rewarded, and you cannot play additional specs without at least the grind to get another (minimum) exotic set of gear. To efficiently (time-wise) gear, you need to play PvE or even better yet buy gems and convert them to gold. If you want to be optimal, you need to also obtain a lot of dragonite ore. The best way to obtain this quickly and reliably is not to play WvW. EotM is better. Better yet, is scheduling your play around a timer and riding the PvE world boss train, with temples fit into the bigger gaps. And it’s quite grindy. Because ANET doesn’t make grindy games, since grind isn’t fun. Or something.

Then you have the upscale mechanic. If you really want to play a different character, you really do need to reach level 80, and it’s so awful to play real WvW as an uplevel that you’re better off doing EotM (PvE) or actual PvE. For 80 levels. Or burning some gold on crafting (which you’re getting from gems->gold, or PvE, because you don’t make gold in WvW), or burning tomes of knowledge if you play sPvP.

Then, you have food, which requires more gold to burn. If you’re using lemongrass poultry soup, you’re probably not earning the gold from WvW to keep permanent uptime. Which means you’re gems->golding some more, or you’re playing PvE.

And of course, with the trait update, you’ve got trait hunting, or amassing an obscene amount of skill points and a decent amount of gold. How much trait hunting is done in WvW? 4 traits? 7 if you count EotM? 8 if you count a jumping puzzle? Since you can’t earn decent gold from playing WvW, we’re back to buying gems or playing PvE.

Basically, you’ve just got a massive grind barrier to playing a different spec, if you want to play that spec even close to optimally, and an even larger grind barrier if you want to play a different class as well. As the game has progressed, these grind barriers have increased. WvW rewards have remained relatively fixed, but gold has inflated considerably. Not only that, but there are things you can’t buy with gold. WvW infusions are huge, and very grindy (terribly designed, mind you, but only ANET could do something about that…), and ascended gear is pretty big (and you need it for infusions) and also very grindy. And then there’s the trait grind. How I pity new players.

ANET could fix this all rather easily. They could add stat, rune, and infusion swapping to all ascended quality gear, if not to exotic gear as well. This is something that should have been included with the gear anyway, as it’s a simple and good QoL feature for players. They could remove the NPC bonus from WvW infusions. They could unlock all traits when participating in WvW. Food is a difficult beast to tackle; I’d like to see it removed from WvW, but that’s probably not viable from a QQ standpoint, so maybe just look at the good WvW foods that are worthless in general PvE (lemongrass poultry soup, I choose you!) and change the recipe for them and/or allow their components to be easily obtained via WvWing, OR they could fix WvW rewards so it’s roughly on par with PvE DE and champ and world boss trains.

Attempting to balance eotm would be a waste of time. It’s the skyhammer of wvw and will never be good.

It’d be trivially easy. Each server gets assigned a random color for EotM, for each 3 hour match. Bam. Done. At least, this would fix the issue the OP has. It wouldn’t fix any inherent imbalances in the map, but given the way teams are assigned, it’s pretty hard to even tell what specifically the inherent map imbalances are.

The only issue is that ANET might feel that it might confuse extremely stupid players, or something.

Commander Tag Refunds

I personally think it’s fine the way that they’re handling this. People that paid for 2 tags still are paying less than people that will have to pay from thereon out, and people that paid for 3 tags didn’t lose anymore money than they initially did anyways.

I agree that it’s fine the way they’re handling it (there is no good way, so one must select the least bad option), but given how gold has inflated over time, people who bought 3+ commander tags are still getting the short end of the stick. They could have used the 200+ gold to invest and flip things on the trading post for that whole time (and even at a pitiful average 5% return per week, that’s pretty significant… with 200 gold seed, and 20 weeks at 5% return per week, you’d have ~530 gold at the end of that; even a 1% weekly return, which is terrible, would leave you with 244 gold), or they could have purchased items for permanent use that are now much more expensive.

With respect to macroing it…

If you put the macro on a single key, it is bannable as per ANET’s policy.

If you make the macro so you have to depress a key and hold it down, and then press your dodge key, it’s in a grey area because there’s never any definition of what constitutes an out of game action (just pressing a key? holding a key?), or an in game action (is equipping a different weapon while not in a match ~3 actions due to composite actions of the “whole action”, or is it 1 action? Or somewhere in between?), nor is there any nuance with respect to the policy in the fact that this is clearly easier than pressing the jump and dodge keys simultaneously (does the timing of presses matter?). It’d be nice to have a reasonably specific policy that intelligent players can actually use as a guideline for things like this, but that might require hiring a half decent technical writer for a very short period of time to write it… So that’s never going to happen.

I’d also be really surprised if ANET were to actually ban people for a jump dodge macro of any sort. I mean, they don’t even care enough about the competitive aspects of their game to fix long standing bugs that can seriously impact play (can’t move bug after hitting a stunbreak/condi clear ‘too soon’ after being stunned/immob so you need to type an emote or burn a movement skill, etc.). If you don’t actually care about the competitive aspects of your game, why would you care if players are using fairly minor macros in said game modes? Is this really a bigger issue than people ‘afking’ (sitting there doing nothing while not being afk to avoid getting booted from the idle timer) matches? Is it really a bigger issue than broken matchmaking? Et cetera…

Does LS eliminate the need for an expansion?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zui.9245

Zui.9245

No.

The LS is short, relatively low quality, extremely low replayability type content.

An expansion ought to contain much higher quality content, with decent replayability, and an impressive amount of content.

Another key difference is the LS can’t be genuinely difficult, because then parts of it would be too hard for most of the players, and the LS is something everyone should be able to complete. An expansion can add genuinely difficult things.

Unfortunately, it seems ANET is going in “let’s give them low amounts of low quality content that has near zero replay value” direction, also known as living story, instead of the expansion direction.

People are just suggesting we be able to skip the dialog. If you like it, don’t skip it. You liking it shouldn’t force others to sit and listen to it.

I think the problem here is that ANET would rather we listened to it, as it creates the illusion of more content, to the LS, which is short content with very limited replay value in the first place.

The Shatterer.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zui.9245

Zui.9245

I’m not sure how I feel about The Shatterer getting a difficulty buff.

On one hand, the fight is incredibly boring (despite being very artistically impressive), requiring virtually zero attention or player skill. Fixing this would be great.

On the other hand, pretty much all world boss fights are fairly boring. They don’t require high levels of player skill; wurm requires the most player skill, and really that’s mostly just understanding the mechanics and how to play your class (very basic stuff), in addition to being able to hop on voice chat, communicate/follow directions, and show up practically an hour before the event due to organizational challenges. They don’t require all that much attention, but they do require enough attention you can’t AFK them for the most part—you have to be present, and be bored (worst offender: Mark II Golem… seriously, I love how I have to actually hit “1” over and over again because autoattack doesn’t work properly from the box, and how I have to constantly retarget it due to my target being lost).

So what’s the problem? Well, I’m a big fan of hard content, that’s hard because it requires high levels of both attention and player skill. Unfortunately, I can’t do that content and obtain Dragonite Ore at a fast and reliable pace. As it is, if I want Dragonite Ore at a fast and reliable pace, I have to do world bosses, which I’d rather not do because they’re simply not challenging in a player skill aspect, and thus quite boring for me. Which is to say, being able to AFK them to do something engaging and still get the reward is better than having to pay attention and be bored out of my mind because there is zero real challenge.

I suppose what I’m saying is, do whatever you want to World Bosses, but add in some method of quickly and reliably obtaining Dragonite Ore that’s not going to fall into the “low player skill but you have to pay attention” category. Preferably, you know, one that falls into the actual challenge category… But I guess I’d be simultaneously happy and disappointed at a full-AFK method, because at least that’d allow me to do more engaging stuff while obtaining my Dragonite Ore.

Agony Resist on Back & Others

Zui.9245

remember that you have up to 16 AR opportunities: 6 in armor, 2 in weapon, 2 for each ring and back, 1 for each accessory, 1 for amulet. maybe more? I’m going off memory here. If you put +5’s into all of those, that’s 80 AR. the current most you’ll ever need is 70. sure, some of those are more expensive than others (the non-agony-infusion slots will require +5 stat / +5 AR infusions, which cost around 30g I believe?), but you don’t need to spend 400g for seven +10 AR infusions to max out.

You seem to be unaware that you can only put +X Agony Infusions into Agony Infusion slots, and Agony Infusion slots are only found on Infused Rings, and Infused Back Items. Which means you can’t use 7 +10 AR infusions; you can only use 3 of them, and three +10s makes less sense than two +8’s and a +9, given where AR breakpoints exist.

Agony Resist on Back & Others

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

For accessories, put versatile simple infusions (or other +5 AR granting thing) into the regular slots, and put a +8, another +8, and a +9 into the Agony Infusion slots (located on infused rings, and infused back item). This will give you 55 AR, enough to handle level 49, and since these can all be swapped on any character, it means any of your characters could handle up to level 49. It’s pretty much the sweet spot, as to be able to handle level 50 on any character without other ascended gear, you’d need to slot +13, another +13, and a +14. Very expensive—better to just get 3 pieces of ascended armor to be able to handle level 50.

Please No Profession Loot

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zui.9245

Zui.9245

The funny thing is, if it’s not so noticeable as to be anecdotally noticeable, the same issue the change was meant to solve will still exist. People will feel like they don’t get enough usable loot while leveling. This is obviously compounded by the fact most loot you could theoretically use is salvage trash, and you are always better off buying higher quality loot with statistics you actually want off the trading post.

However, the fears of the OP (and others) that this will disadvantage some professions with respect to the average value of their loot, and advantage others, is still completely valid, as clearly this change will have some noticeable effect when looking from the point of view of a large data set.

Based on what information we have now, which isn’t complete, this change seems as if it’s one of those “worst of both worlds” changes, or maybe just a tradeoff between average loot value imbalance and insufficient usable loot (which isn’t so much a problem with the TP existing, and all…). At best, it seems like it might be an irrelevant change with an effect so small it’s hardly noticeable even if one had a large set of well-controlled data (or the actual original loot values, alongside the new values). It screams “bad design”, but I guess we’ll see how bad.

Zui.9245

I don’t have a problem with this. Nearly every world boss requires a near AFK level of effort to start with. Actually AFKing such an event isn’t the problem; the problem is either that the event is too easy (but I realize a lot of people like easy… so we can’t fix that…) or that doing such events is the fastest, most reliable method of obtaining dragonite ore, and the types of players who most want dragonite ore to craft a TON of ascended gear to be optimal for multiple WvW builds / multiple dungenos and fractals, especially those doing it for multiple characters, are almost invariably the people who would rather not do world bosses ever, but now have a need to do them because they’re the most efficient and reliable way they can get dragonite.

Being able to skip during replay is legitimate and a no brainer. 1st time through, may be a different matter(from Anets perspective). But I agree the player should be able to make that decision regardless of 1st or 5th time through LS.

Virtually every single game I’ve ever played lets me skip things the first time around. The LS should be no different. Especially since the story part of LS is much lower quality story than many other games provide.

If they don’t want people to skip, they should give us the option to do so, but make the story good enough that we don’t want to.

Are we board with this game or just MMOs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zui.9245

Zui.9245

But the main difference to me is, there is always something to do. The daily, work towards my goal of 100% ascended weapons for 8 chars, dungeons, WvW, the new living story, the new achieves. Unlike other MMOs, this one is not static for months/years at a time.

This is one of the sour points of GW2, in my opinion. Ascended gear violates the manifesto, violates the statement from ANET about how they don’t make grindy games, violates the statement from ANET about how we’d have the best gear in the game right after hitting level 80, and if they wanted to implement something like it, is about the worst way to go about doing it, especially since the grind hugely compounds with each additional character, each additional build, and (god help you) each additional game mode (i.e. PvE + WvW). Not only is it bad design, it’s a betrayal of the design philosophy that ANET sold us. Every time I do a world boss to obtain dragonite ore, in between the semi-afking and mind-numbing boredom, I am reminded of how awful ascended gear is. Every time I craft another piece of ascended gear, I am reminded of how awful ascended gear is.

Yeah, it’s something to do in the game, but it’s a fake thing to do. There’s no challenge in it, other than suffering through grind and annoyance. The only reason it exists is because they tried to appease the grind>skill camp that came from other MMOs, who think that because they spend a bunch of time on trivially easy content, they “deserve” to be superior to other players, and at the same time try and motivate gem store purchases for gem to gold conversion to help make the process a bit faster and less insufferable.

What went wrong with gw2 pvp?

in PvP

Posted by: Zui.9245

Zui.9245

In GW1 GvG you couldn’t see your opponents’ build either. And yet it is (stille now!) one the best PvP gameplay ever conceived.

You couldn’t see it, but it was generally very easy to figure out. Much easier than GW2. Furthermore, every skill in GW1 had a consistent effect (which scaled with attribute points… but that kind of doesn’t matter because there existed a narrow range of useful breakpoints, etc.), which isn’t the case in GW2 due to how traits work.

In GW1, figuring our your opponent’s build during a match was very important, as unless you did so you wouldn’t know how to properly play against them. In GW2, figuring out your opponent’s build to the same level of understanding matters much less; the gameplay is much less thoughtful.

runeblade’s right. idc what aent says selling dungeons is just wrong i need arah number four for my master dungon achevement but onyl groups on lfg charge for runs

why not just run 4 fun insted of cheatin and esploiting for profit?

isnt this game suposed to NOT b p2w?

I cannot understand your mindset.

If you want to do Arah P4 on your own, start your own group on the LFG. It’s not difficult to do. Join one of the Saturday morning Arah tours advertised by Ivan on these forums. Also, not difficult. Join [Noob] as advertised on these fourms, and ask one of the mentors to help you out. Also, not difficult. There’s literally nothing stopping you except for your own lack of any action. Or, I’m sure you’ve made friends in other areas of the game, yes? I’m sure you can find enough people to do Arah with you.

There isn’t any “cheating” or “exploiting” going on here. Just people running a dungeon path, and selling it. ANET is fine with this, and people doing this doesn’t really impact your ability to play how you want. Go do the path on your own, should that be what you desire, no one is stopping you. People selling a dungeon path seems to be one of the very few skill gated sources of income in GW2; GW2 needs more stuff like this, not less. Not only this, but people did similar things in GW1. Sell missions? Check. Sell runs to various places on the map so people didn’t have to fight there, or even complete large chunks of the game to get there? Check.

There’s no “pay to win” involved in buying a dungeon path. Getting the Dungeon Master title is not “winning”. Having to contribute zero effort for your completion isn’t “winning” either. If anything, this is “play to win”, because the people selling these paths are playing the game skillfully and being appropriately rewarded for it; dungeon path selling seems to be one of the few areas of the game where demonstrating a good level of player skill is more rewarding than just mashing buttons or the semi-afk training of events/world bosses/eotm/whatever cool new zero skill braindead level of required intelligence afk level of effort new farm spot there might be.

Poorly. People always seem to join without reading the description (except for path number or fractal level… they can always read that), or read the description and decide to join so they can leech. It’s very unfortunate, and often times frustrating.

On a ring that has an agony infusion slot, you can put a versatile simple infusion (or whatever other regular infusion) and a +X agony infusion. The order you put them in the ring makes zero difference. You can’t put two versatile simple infusions in, however.

On a ring that doesn’t have an agony infusion slot, you can only put a versatile simple infusion (or other regular infusion). You can later upgrade this ring via the forge to an infused version. When you upgrade it, whatever regular infusion you have in the ring disappears. You’ve now got the same case as the first paragraph explains.

300g is not a lot, especially for a Commander who is supported by their guild or even server.

300g may not be a huge cost for the original entry cost to get the single blue account bound tag. However, the 3-4 additional colors that would be useful for organizing (half of the CDI) would put you at 1200-1500 gold for a tool that doesn’t even give us any extra functionality aside from the actual pin itself and the useless supply check that only reaches 5 pixels off your character.

Maybe they’ll fix the supply check issue in two years or so. How much gold per additional pixel of radius do you think is reasonable?

With the steam vents, it’s probably because your party wiped. If your party wiped, you may have to move all of the boulders considerably off of the vents, and then replace the boulders. Always check all boulders after a party wipe.

It doesn’t matter as long as you have the AR, but I’d say trinkets first, then armor, then weapons. The reason for this is your trinkets can’t break, your armor can break but is unlikely to be swapped, and your weapons can’t break but are very likely to be swapped. If nothing is broken, and everything is equipped, it doesn’t matter, and you can obviously still repair if your armor breaks.

Level Range → AR
0-9 → 0
10-19 → 10
20-29 → 25
30-39 → 40
40-49 → 55
50 → 70

You know what guy’s, a bit off topici know…
it’s all them super novaish kitten storm pyrotechnics displays really grind on me at times. Especially the brown kitten storm’s pvp skirmishes resemble cause of them. I know it has a lot to do with my general inexperience but still feels to me like chaotic cluster kittens to me. Sure would be nice to click that ‘limit partial effects’ box and have it actually do something discernible.
Just last night was running a cm path and for the first time came across someone useing that guardian skill that casts the most annoying wide radius sheilds that Heal every second skill. Woosh woosh woosh!
Is that even necessary ?
Bad enough even if the field of view were widened up a few degrees or so.
Lol way too spammy for my tastes. .

1. Create game where reading animations is key.
2. Greatly obscure animations with excessive and often needless special effects.
3. ???
4. Profit

Or at least #1 and #2.

Wait… I feel dumb…. people you have blocked can join your lfg?

That…. doesn’t seem right. I feel like if someone is blocked they shouldn’t be able to join an lfg you are currently in. Isn’t that… part of the point?

This is why you only block gold sellers. You ‘block’ lovely people like the ones OP speaks of by adding them to “friends”, and making a nice user note about them, so you can see if they join your party or not.

Why is this another huge gold sink? 300g? Why not make it something like 3000 badges of honor? At least you know someone worked to earn their tag, more than had extra gold to buy it.

Unless they feel WvW players are too rich as it is.

There exists a Gems → Gold feature.

There exists no Gems → Badges feature.

Things that cost gold are good for the bottom line. Things that cost gold and mostly appeal to the poorest players are even better.

Time to make money off fractals? wonder how many people I’d need/want to do a lvl 1 and how much could spots be sold for?

You could definitely trio it without any real trouble. I’ve trioed up to level 9 with friends, and it’s really not that difficult. I’d say it’s even preferable to a pug at that level.

You might be able to duo it, providing you get somewhat lucky with the fractals you roll (no dredge, for example), and your class composition or second’s ability to class-switch as needed to make things easier/faster. Or, you were willing to get someone to join briefly to help, and then leave again once no longer needed.

You could even solo it, in theory. Acquatic ruins, urban battlegrounds, uncategorized, snowblind, molten furnace, cliffside, volcanic, maw, and mai are all definitely soloable at low levels that I know of, making it definitely possible with the right rolls. More fractals than listed may be soloable, even, but I can’t confirm that. Of course, you might end up repeatedly dying at some points, and some of those will take you inordinately long amounts of time to solo.

I’d say 3-man would be your best bet in terms of efficiency.

No idea on how much spots could be sold for. I’d imagine you could find someone willing to buy though.

Standard Enemy Models

Fairly sure this already exists…
But it’s called low settings

Incorrect.

Low settings does not standardize weapon skins. This feature will.

Low settings does not standardize armor by profession. This feature will. It does standardize armor by armor class (heavy, medium, light), though.

As for why I’m guessing you can’t use it anywhere except Team Q and custom arenas? Legendary weapons. Couldn’t have people not be forced to see their particle effects, now, could we? =/

Well, no, first of all it’s just an option, so if you don’t want to use it, you don’t.

Second, it’s about standardizing enemy models, not your teammates’ or even yours, so legendaries kitten will still see their glittering particles spam.

Perhaps I was unclear in my post (or you just didn’t read it… you did read it, right?), so to clarify:

I would use the option everywhere it is available, and think it should be available everywhere in the game, or at the very least all of sPvP.

I understand the feature only standardizes enemy models. That doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be a similar feature to standardize the models of your teammates, even though apparently such a feature does not exist. Certainly, such a feature would be lower priority, but given it’d work exactly the same way, there isn’t a good reason not to have such a feature.

I was speculating the reason why the feature will not be available in hotjoin and solo q (much less the rest of the game) is because ANET feels that it’d upset those with legendary weapons. This is the only possible reason I can think of. It’s of course a terrible reason, but can anyone think of a better one?
