10/30/0/0/30 is viable, i like to use s/d AND p/d when i play it though, you could also use 10/30/30/0/0 or 0/30/30/10/0 or even 10/0/0/30/30
o, if a Perplexity mesmer had a baby with a Lockdown mesmer, this is what their child would look like!The main reason I like this build is because normally when i run a lockdown build i run zerkers, making me very squishy, with this im less squishy and still deal plenty of dmg. also when i run my tanky perplexity build, i normally deal less damage and dont have as much lockdown, with this build you have more dmg and more lockdown! P.S. this is a WvW build, any thoughts?
he couldve been running 25 might stacks w/ signets/trap and probs was full zerker glass cannon with thief runes, i’ve ran a build like that and i can hit that high, but im very squishy and die often.. but its fun

@phaeris it doesnt rely on thieves guild, i’ve said that to many other people, and you almost always have your trap and venom up when you engage. it’s not as initiative hungry as it seems, you’re mostly autoattacking and using the #3 skill to keep distance
i’m used to traveler runes to but i got used to not having them quickly, don’t waste abilities on speed though man.. you really gotta watch my stream if you wanna know what to do >.< i really need to make vids for these builds

@kyubi you could take d/d if you really want tom, but you’ll lose damage. why will you lose damage? skill #1 when invis gives you more bleeding damage, torment > bleeding for skill #3, while you have one skill to bleed someone with for d/d you could if you really wanted to but i don’t reccoment it, and if you want more stealth and condition removal than feel free to take hide in shadows like i said you could if you didnt want to take the venom heal :p
@phaeris thanks, and lots of people actually underestimate 2 npc spawned thieves autto attacking you, and when they’re summoned they will immediately attack you, so you have little time to react. also you can’t condition clear for forever ^^ and by
“c + d” i’m not sure what you mean, but if you mean shadow refuge, this build would counter that by jusy walked into the refuge and spamming cluster bomb on you. (sb #2 skill) :p
@stinkypants i still suggest p/d considering it does more damage, also with the #3 skill any class who has melee based damage has trouble trying to even hit you because you’ll be #3ing everytime they try.

@volrath you’re right, but what i normally do when thieves guild is on cd is i proc my ambush ->skelk venom ->#3 skill ->steal #3 skill and still has plenty of stacks + bleeds from auto attack’s/poison from steal/other cd’s to kill. what’s great about this build is that it deosnt rely of thieves guild, thieves only boost the damage output.also, if you want to see me play it i’ve been streaming it on twitch lately. so you can watch me play the build there (twitch name :tad44) i’d also love to make youtube vids but i can’t find anything that edits flv files :/
@messiah true, you could take improvisation, but it’s a little bit of a risk since you don’t know which one will be restored, but with quick venoms, ambush and skelk venom are guarantied to be up at the same time, but i might try that some time if it can proc the venom heal ^^ that would be useful.
and you can get at least 20 guarantied from skelk on your 3 thieves and you + 1 #3 skill, i can prove it to you if you come in to my twitch chat one day :P
yes if this build was torment only, your right about all that damage. BUT it isn’t, and it also has poison and tons of bleeds. you can watch my stream if you would like to see it in action vs theory >.<
thief = switch to sb, walk on refuge, aoe dafaq out of it with #2 skill for bleeds, thief is dead or badly injured =)
ele = chase and kill~ /reset fight if they get away
mesmer = chase and kill~/reset fight if they actually get away lol thief speed > mesmer’s
warrior/engi = keep pressure on them, then apply torment/bleed/poison (if i havn’t already used steal) after they’re done blocking~
guardian = keep pressure on them by continuing to apply conditions
ranger = yeah…
if they run away then you chase them, it’s as simple as that lol, it’s good that they run away because i get to chase them and apply free dmg while they run. the rest who stay will hopefully die ^^. this build isnt dependent on stealth.. considering your armor and health, again you can see what i do vs all these classes if you watch my twitch stream >.< but thanks for the feedback man, you’ve replied to a lot of my posts
@ rafahil the only problem with that is, you can to actually land all of shose shadow strikes (cant be blocked/evaded) also you need the initiative to keep doing that, and when you actually do that, you’ll be out of initiative and vulnerable. but yeah man that would be an excellent idea if you had the initiative to spend. and yes thieves guild does indeed have a long cd, sadly. BUT as i said earlyer this class doesn’t rely on thieves guild, it’s just a very big damage boost :p

@frenk i completely disagree with you, i use this build and it DOES work on roamers, don’t believe me? then check my stream and i can prove to you that it DOES work on roamers.
for instance, lets say i pop my thieves guild and trap, then my venom and we put20 stacks of torment on the roamer instantly, but they have a great reaction time nad use their cc, does that mean i deal no damage and die? NO. i continue applying bleeds/more torment/poison, and let my thieves autoattack them. jut because they cc once/twice, does NOT mean it’s over, this build has more then one cd, if you looks at it you would know that.

@makiface even if you dont have thieves guild up, you have atleast one thief for every fight (which you dont even need) and you can just apply your 3500 2 torment stacks and bleeds by yourself and get tons of damage off, even if it looks like it, it doesn’t rely on cooldown :p and for the mix of conditions, it has lots of bleeds, torment, and poison. is that good enough

10-15 stacks from 1 thief and you + the bleeds and everything else = dead
3 thieves + you with 20-25 torment stacks = overkill
think of it that way.
So i was streaming one day and one of my viewers told me there was this op condi build for p/d with full dire, and that i should try it out. so i made this build and did, it’s been fun so far, i can get an easy 25 torment stacks and drop squishy classes from 100% hp to 0% in just a few seconds. another cool thing about this build is that it not only deals tonsss on damage, but the dire also makes it tanky, which is very helpful ^^. hope you guys like the build!
also, this is how i usually engage:
proc ambush trap on something -> activate thieves guild -> skale venom -> shadow strike -> steal -> shadow strike -> watch the 20-25 torment stacks destroy the enemy’s health (if they aren’t dead already).
P.S you don’t have to take skelk venom, i just take it so my thieves heal them selves so they live longer and can do more damage / get the full 25 torment stacks off, and i think it heals me as much / a little less than hide in shadows(also does 250 dmg to enemy). if you don’t take skelk venom then take hide in shadows and when your invisible make sure to sneak attack (pistol # 1 skill while invis) for an easy 3k+ dmg with bleeds

@dusk thanks, i think the trick to d/p is to lockdown, you can’t hit all of you’re skill #3 unless they’re locked down, you can keep them locked down with #2/basilisk venom. and use lots of dodging, you have a heal every 15 second so make sure you can dodge the damage that comes towards you before it comes up! whenever i get a good immobilize i can pull off a good combo and put a full #3 skill int them

p.s. cool build, but i dont take assasin’s reward because it doesn’t give you that much healing unless you have some healing power. even though it got ‘buffed’.
only? lol 2 stunbreakers and sources of condition removals are perfectly fine. you only need one stunbreaker, and most builds only have one stunbreaker (shadowstep) same for condition removal. as squishy as this build seems, you can easily survive in a 1v5 fight just from the dodges/evasion from pistol whip, and juking with skill # 2 on the sword oddly enough. and yes, big numbers not so much stealth ^^
personally i like it, i’d rather take it so i can have the free utility slot for shadow refuge.
s/p with these traits are very good, lots of regen and evasion, you just spam pistol whip

This build is like the s/d build but it’s a s/p pistol whip instead. This is a WvW solo roaming build, not a sPvP build, there are other posts on this forum for sPvP s/p build. So far i’m just experimenting with build, some things i really like about it:
first, lots of lockdown for dueling! sword #2 skill and # 3 skill has lots of lockdown, and having basilisk venom really seals the deal!
second, this build has lots of damage while still having survivability! 2k armor, 17-18k vitality, and tons of evasion is very nice to have when roaming, while you still have tons of damage
Third, this is my favorite thing about this build, you can solo camps with ease! i normally just pull some guards, pistol whip spam them, then pull the camp leader, pistol whip spam them, them take the camp! i normally keep my health at 80-90%+ while doing this.
Some other nice things about this build is instead of shadowstep for a stun breaker you use the hard to catch trait, it has a 30s cd instead of 50s (shadowstep) and you gain swiftness from it. another thing is you have tons on evasion! pistol whip, heal skill, and all the dodges you have give you tons of evasion, as well as might :p. lastly you can get around the map pretty easily with all the endurance regeneration, so you can constantly roll and get switfness. you also get move speed from your runes

that’s true, it is a glassy build, but i believe just about all thiefs are glassy to begin with.. it only has 200 less armor and about 500 less hp than the normal 0/30/30/10/0 dd bs build. i think shadowstep is enough of an escape when combined with inf arrow/heartseeker, that’s actually the same escape as the old s/d build.. i think solo is fine, but opinions are opinions i guess, and i’d love to make vids of these but i can’t find editing software than can edit FLV files (i record with xplit) :l

@jugglemonkey the heal skill does work with all the venom traits, if it doesn’t then there is a bug. you take spider for extra poison + weakness from poison, skale for vulnerability stacks and torment. and you take both for the free healing/damage, i explained this earlyer in my very first post, if you havn’t read that. the condi’s aren’t for full damage, you’re power for condi damage, they are used for heal/dmg on use @ weakness heal reduction, ect. the condi damage is just a bonus. i do like the extra power though, please keep in mind the damage your venoms do alone. just because i don’t have the sa 25 point trait doesn’t mean i can’t make up for it in other ways. many build dont take blinding powder and shadow refuge, for example s/d | d/p build. just because you dont have shadow refuge doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world, i think it has enough survivability from just the leach/venom themselves, but that’s just what i think. thanks for not being negative like the majority of people on here o/ merry wintersday.

@Travlane it’s only maybe some extra heal from skelk if you aren’t able to use it properly, you still get the damage and heal from the venoms on ACTIVATION. you only sacrifice 100 toughness & vitality from this build to get the extra healing/damage/condition effects, it’s a very small difference because we’re squishy no mater what. and we never has aegis/blocks/protection/invulverability anyways, so how could we be losing it? i hope you’re not comparing this to other classes because last time i checked this is a thief forum. not a discussion forums between classes, i’ve seen f2 ect venoms and yeah sure that would be VERY nice, i agree fully with you on that, but that doesn’t mean that should be the ONLY way to fix venoms. skelk venom is only -800 healing if you only hit 2 venoms on your enemy. compared to the what, around 6500 healing you get from the rest of it? please take a look at the build before you assume all thieves are sub par and garbage and force your opinions on others. thanks
Mlrra – if there is a 1 second interval, like you said, you’re backstabbing, not auto attacking (hint the build name) and for damage, you deal more damage than the regular backstab build. and as far as i recall the other d/d backstab build didn’t have any cc besides SS, if you you want CC then get roll for initiative, problem solved you almost never get 8 stacks of might when putting 25 in so that’s not a big deal. and you deal more damage on 20/30/2/0/0 than 10/30/30/0/0. please stop commenting on my posts and stop stalking me. i’ve looked at your recent posts and it’s all negative.
@undead cool ^^.i’m actually testing it , i thought it was going to be useless too but i think you actually get more healing out of it than the old healing skill, as well as damage from the trait passive! and it’s only a 36second cd compared to 30s cd. it’s been fun so far
i think i’ve used the conditions on venoms more for lots on weakness/ less healing for enemy, as well as vulnerability on them and the bonus damage/heal you get from popping the venom. i’m thinking about trying roll for initiative, but i like the hard engage shadow step gives, aswell as the cc when you step back, it also has less of a cd. the 6 initiative looks really nice though, i think it’s more for continuing a fight rather then leaving it, but i’ll think about using it

What is and isn’t required
food isn’t required, if you can’t afford it you can always buy lower grade food, but it is pretty cheap, Runes and sigils ARE required, it’s fine if you can’t afford bloodlust runes, i often take force runes because i’m to lazy too farm stacks. ascended items aren’t required, (just try to keep your crit chance around 42%)! prefix’s are required.
how to engage
don’t blow all of your venoms then engage, that’s a waste of 1k+ free health and damage. to play this build you want to CYCLE though your venoms, i normally wait til i’m a bit low and pop spider venom for some healing and damage/reduced healing effectiveness on enemy (from poison). i’ll normally use basilisk venom when the enemy is around half hp and go in for a backstab to kill them (if i havn’t already used it) and i’ll use skale venom early in the fight when i need healing and want vulnerability on my target. how i normally engage will be something like this:
heartseeker towards the enemy and pop my steal while in mid air (for extra range) i damage them with my heartseeker and mug trait, then i will immediately clock and dagger and backstab them, then i will normally pop a venom to get some healing/damage in and use it on the enemy, keeping venoms up so i can continue to cycle through them/aswell and re cloaking and backstabbing for maximum damage.
how to disengage
say you’re fighting an annoying hammer warrior (hammer warriors are always annoying to me ;-;) and midway into the fight they hammerstun you and you’re low enough health to die, so you need to escape, you simply shadow step away to break the stun and then heartseeker away/switch to your shortbow for 50% endurance and use infiltrator’s arrow to escape, very simple!
why i use these runes
for mobility speed. you need mobility when you roam, for chasing as well and running away.
Why i don’t take infusion of shadow
i dont take this trait because we have had our initiative regeneration buffed from .75 to 1 per second, this helps a lot and makes it so you don’t have to rely on initiative traits anymore.
comparison to regular d/d backstab build
more damage/slows/condi
less stealth (you can only stealth from cloak and dagger/trait passives)
alternatively you COULD take shadow refuge in place of skale venom for the extra stealth) the stats themselves are about the same, but more power since you took traits in the deadly arts tree
(the d/d backstab i used to use was 0/30/30/10/0 btw)

d/d backstab is a common build for thieves. people sometimes use rune of the traveler for movement speed, so they can take blinding powder istead of wasting a util of signet of the shadows, the other option is to use runes of divinity and take signet of shadows in place of blinding powder

i think about every class can solo roam, d/d ele does have high burst, and thief has high damage as well, if you’re into stealth classes you could play thief/mesmer, but thief is getting nerfed dec 10. i’m actually making a mesmer atm since i want to try something besides thief

#dagins taking venomshare and using it with heal skill/venoms gives your teamates healing, and gives them extra damage. don’t tell me it doesn’t do anything just because it’s not full glass cannon w/ shadow refuge, thanks
@reikken, this is not a solo roaming build,you’ll be in a zerg/group of people, stuns wont be as scary, and if you’re chained/entangle or w.e it’s called you can sb #5 skill to get out of the area. 13khp is fine with the armor and the regeneration you’ll be getting. if you can’t see all the regen you get then you didnt even take a look at the traits.
@Dagins and what if they are subpar/not meta? that doesn’t that mean we can’t take them. this is a support build and it will do fine in group/zergs.
@epandrsn 36s if you have quick venoms, i normalls find myself using them 1-2 times in a 1v1 with my other build.
