Best use of rare items?

I’m a level 80 Guardian trying to raise enough gold to purchase my Tier 3 Cultural armor. I’ve found that, aside from Orc. farming, a good amount of money lies in rare items. I have three options with them;

1. I can sell each gold item for a guaranteed +10 silver each on the Trading Post.
2. I can salvage each item for a chance of Ectoplasm. I can sell each on the trading post for +13-15 silver, usually 3 silver more than step 1. This is, however, not always guaranteed.
3. I can collect my rare items and place their siblings into the mystic forge with the chance for a legendary weapon, earning gold beyond my wildest dreams. It’s like playing the lottery, right?

Basically, what’s the best route for me to do to earn gold simply for the use of spending it later?

Equip a staff and tag as many mobs in events on Cursed Shore, or go Greatsword and farm trolls/skelks for bloods.

This Greatsword idea.
Is this still within the cursed shore area?

I’m a level 80 Guardian who has recently %100’d the map. This is the only character I have, the only character I want to attend to at the moment. Typically, before I had %100’d the map, I used completing areas a method of money. I never waypointed in the area unless dead and the reward I was given for the completion was usually a nice profit. This is where most of my money came from.

However, recently, while I’m in dire need for gold for a personal reason, I can’t seem to find an efficient way to continue making an income for me on this one character. I’ve added magic find into my gear and have a nice amount of Peach Tarts (gives %28 MF) to consume on my farming runs. I find myself searching high and low for Orichalcum nodes, ancient saplings, and omnomberries for what silver they provide on the trading post. My magic find goes toward gathering rares that I salvage for Globs of Ectoplasm to earn a bit extra silver than I would to sell the rare item.

What other things can I do to bring in money? I’m sitting on a bunch of Karma too, if it helps any.

tl;dr how do you make money?

Makeover credits.

I’m sure the whole “No wandering around in Orr, only running from bloody zombies.” was an intentional thing. Being an undead horde, and all.

Coming from Lore in GW1, Orr wasn’t going to be an amusement park filled with flowers if we ever reached it.

@Almostdaft

Dude, it’s not that we have hairy balls of tears dripping down our chin. It’s simply that people get bored of content, and let’s face it, we don’t have much of it.

Some people deal with boredom in different ways, some write OMGAD posts. Some write more coherent posts on forums, some have unbelievable patience.

Fact is, a lot of people will stop playing until updates occur. I don’t think anet want this, so to stop this they need to prioritise what updates they do for spvp, and I don’t think the current proposed updates will stop the flagging spvp playerbases’ boredom.

and this is the only bearable response I’ve ever had in this forum.

0% complainers, %100 players.
and it was a beautiful fate, indeed.

I really really hate people that don’t care about a shrinking community. Maybe YOU would be happy with a single player game because you’re the last person on earth that enjoys the game, but no one else is.

I’m sorry, but it’s incredibly selfish to not care that the majority of your fellow players (or player base from the perspective of a developer) is unhappy with the status quo and are quitting like flies.

What should I do to convince my fellow players to wait for ArenaNet’s updates? Why should I, then again? Is it really that important to me that I see things delivered faster and broken to satisfy impatient players as opposed to waiting for a better outcome?

Maybe I should go work at ArenaNet and:

A) Undergo their trials of hardship and work to hopefully impact the speed that these desperately-needed updates are needing.

or B) Sit around and entertain you guys (via Jon’s post) while they take their time, like you guys believe, and watch our playerbase fall until the patch is released.

Keep in mind, I do wish people didn’t complain and freak out like this—especially my fellow players. I’m a GW1 player that has waited YEARS for this game; having the website set as my homepage just incase some bit of news came along. Either I’m a very patient man, or a fool. Somebody who has fun, or pretends.

I’m sure another week, month, etc. for this update won’t kill me, make me shun ArenaNet, and uninstall. Why? Because I’m not selfish. I have an understanding that things take time and maybe, just maybe, I don’t hear things I want to hear from a video game developer but incase hear what I already say I know.

and I nod my head and continue playing, eagerly waiting for their blog or patch. Maybe I would be selfish if I sat in my front of my computer, licking my tears while saliva rolls off my chin and say " YOU SHOULD BE FIRED JON, GIVES US WHAT WE WANT NOW. BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. " and go back to eating my mother’s spaghetti after a bubble bath.

So, sure. Call me selfish when I don’t complain with you guys. Call me selfish when I’m patient as I’ve always been with game developers. Call me selfish when I’m not screaming and threatening to leave the game.

Because then I’ll just be a selfish man who loves the video game he purchased, and still does, and will play it until further notice. In my opinion, it’s a great game and the fact they’re taking their time is OK. However, you might have a different opinion that I do respect.

and that’s life for you.

Do you guys remember this?

Balance. Really, balance is pretty good. We’re very observant of the meta, we read the forums, and we’re playing the game with you. We don’t want to make knee-jerk balance decisions. And if did whatever the community wanted, what would happen to balance? How many threads are basically: “NERF X OMG!!” “Learn to play , X is fine” “Omg no, we can’t beat X at all!” “Just saying, none of the people I know even run X anymore” “Hey you guys forget X, let’s buff Y!”….then this just repeats over and over. We can’t just do exactly what players ask for in relation to balance, because different players at various skill levels view balance differently. So what we do is balance community feedback with gameplay results. We don’t want to play whack-a-mole with balance, so we don’t just nerf/buff everything as soon as someone posts about it. It would ruin the game if we did. We try to be patient, see if the meta fixes itself (because a lot of times, once you learn how to deal with something, you realize it may not be as imba as you first thought), and then make long-lasting balance changes. We don’t want to nerf X, then realize no one uses it, and buff it again, then have to nerf it again, etc. etc.

Maybe, just maybe, they are doing these balance changes.
and didn’t feel the need to comfort you with the note of something already said. To my knowledge, none of the things in this blog post was confirmed before hand—we only assumed because almost every other PvP has them.

I can almost 100% guarantee that what we got was meaningless lofty goals because what generally happened was they didn’t get nearly enough done to warrant a real post. So you fluff it up to your client (us) in order to buy time.

Before you talk business, get rid of that almost.

It won’t get you anywhere. Either you’re sure or you’re a fool.

Instead, we reviewed features we already knew about, and the author(s) tried to take our breath away with rented servers. Really guy? You claim to be a gamer and give us this by-committee sales tripe? Let me ask you something Jonathan: if you were in fact as genuine as you claim, and were just a normal player on GW2, would YOU be happy learning about the contents of this blog? A few paragraphs of non-specific as possible sales language?

While the question was directed at Jonathan, I was happy with the contents of the blog. I’m not playing the devil’s advocate either.

I’m afraid I’m done with this game. Tired of the Burst/Bunker meta that revolves around 7 class/builds only, described in a post your community marketing saw fit to delete because it was a little too accurate. I expect the same treatment of this post, further proving ANet is another insulated developer too sure of themselves in a time where the average shelf life of an MMO is about 90 days.

Are you implying that they’re trying to hide something they’ve purposely did in order to avoid the truth? What?

But please, take your time, release things When It’s Ready™. I’m sure the 10k or so playerbase left will enjoy it greatly, when finally released. The hype about this game becoming a viable esport has pretty much evaporated, but you guys “watch the watchers” so I’m sure you know already but aren’t allowed to articulate as such. Good luck.

and thus Guild Wars 2 will share the same, glorious fate of that Guild Wars 1 did.

All I see Guardians typically use is Greatswords and Hammers. I’ve came across very little sword/shield Guardians. I’ve recently dabbled into the Sword of Shield combo and, with the right traits, you can murder burning foes with crits and have the defense to live through several fights.

Anybody else favor the Sword and Shield as opposed to the GS?

About the Zhaitan Fight [end game spoiler]

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: almostdaft.4319

almostdaft.4319

Did you guys not pay attention to the story?!

You WEAKEN Zhaitan. The whole purpose was to cripple him, make him defenseless, and add insult to injury. If you were to cut off a food supply and knowledge of your greatest enemy, and when you finally encounter him he’s in his prime and ready to kill you—I would imagine you would be a little disappointed.

I was a little…upset with the final fight too. I was expecting, like you, something off-the-scale and packed with action (and the whole dungeon is! Especially Logan coming back.) but it all made sense why Zhaitan wasn’t much of a challenge in the end.

You were fighting him the whole time. The Risen was apart of him. You slowly chopped him down.

only to shoot him off a building.

The 2H-Shout Build v1.0 by Lord Avarize

I have this build with a gs with my main weapon most of the time i rarely switch because of the greatsword trait that reduces cooldown by 20% and the shouts recharge faster again because of the trait that reduces cooldown by 20%.

This build is very strong in pve and pvp and so dungeons it grants protection that reduces 33% incoming damage by my 2 shouts (Hold the Line & Save Yourselves – grants mspd bonus also) and i have a stability which is very good in pvp and pve (Stand your Guard) this also breaks stuns

in case of difficult switch situations i switch to my mace and shield for defense. but i rarely switch even in pvp.

in Radiance Trait i took Searing Blades and Blind Exposure. currently using a beryl set i maintain about 25% crit chance and 50% damage. its pretty amazing how much damage u can do..

and never underestimate the virtues with the inspired virtue trait.. they are amazing they save me alot of times.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

So, that Zhaitan fight. Easiest fight in the game hands-down, right? I’ve heard a lot of players are disappointed in the fight alone—expecting some glorious mountain fight with the dragon causing chaos everywhere, fighting for the last thread of your life.

However, doesn’t the fight make sense? You spent so much time weakening him, crippling his resources that made him in his prime. We (player + friendly NPCs) WANTED Zhaitan like this when we faced him: we wanted no resistance at all.

Using ALT to get some items, rather than all.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: almostdaft.4319

almostdaft.4319

I’ve been having a problem getting some items from a stack, rather than all. I asked some local players in game, and everybody says “use ALT”; I assume this is to hold ALT, and then drag the desired item into my inventory and being presented a screen asking how much I want to take out of the said stack—or just hold ALT and clicking the item to grab my requested amount and then to move it to my inventory or bank, whichever I please.

However, it seems like ALT just isn’t working for me. All I can think of is something bugged with the game on my account, or my computer.

Help?

Thanks in advance.
