I guess the red spawn in Edge of the Mists.

for some reason it logs the points you score in matches rather than your actual rank points. i don’t have a link sorry but apparently it will be fixed with the upcoming feature patch (next tuesday).
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
you don’t deserve rank in 2 month’s of casual play…dedication is what should be rewarded
you don’t get r80 in “2 months of casual play”. granted I am more casual than the average casual, but i’ve been playing casually since the start of this year and am r23. at this rate it’ll be about ten years before i am r80, assuming my casual self doesn’t find something better to do with my time.
‘the hardcore pvp’ crowd really need to calm down.

my guess is that the merchant will come with the zephyr sanctum thing, like they had the merchants last year to soak up mats.

in the video they showed with the wardrobe, one of the ‘free’ skins (heritage, i think) was hovered over for a moment and it had a “free to apply” quality – in other words, it doesn’t cost charges to use.

I’ve enjoyed a lot of Soule’s older works (GW1, Morrowind), but… more recent stuff by him just seems to be retreading old ground. His Elder Scrolls work mostly consists of reworking and/or rearranging his Morrowind tracks, and most of the GW2 soundtrack was rearrangements of themes from GW1. I think it speaks volumes that despite having a 4 disc soundtrack of its own, the majority of the music that actually plays in game is from GW1.
I’m also glad that other composers are getting time in the spotlight. Maclaine et al may be taking time to find their feet, but their work has gotten noticeably better. About the only complaint I have is the string sections of Battle on the Breachmaker, which seem to be extremely similar in parts to the SAB 2-3 theme. I know there was speculation at one stage that Scarlet had some link to SAB, and maybe this is it, but… it still threw me. Like, a lot.
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
why would you purchase a set you already owned?
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
I just want to chime in with the other people disappointed in the change to tonics for ‘some’ ‘discontinued’ gem store town clothes. It’s the rather conspicuous fly in the ointment of an otherwise generally awesome system. I’m not an RPer, not have I bought a ton of clothes, but I am pleased with the looks I have and frankly don’t have the patience to reapply tonics every time I zone/die/dc. I realise that Anet can’t really be held responsible for my laziness, but their rethinking of converting older town clothes to tonics would make me happier.
I also want to add that it sucks that ‘outfits’ have to include their hats (even if they can be hidden), which seriously limits the options for mixing and matching. Right now they are separate items, and both asura boots and charr everything show that clipping issues have never stopped anet from releasing things before. I appreciate that some outfits can’t easily be separated into tops/bottoms, but please consider supporting hats/boots/etc as seperate items when it comes to outfits such as the Mad King’s gear. You know, like they are now.
thank you and have a nice day. c:

I apologise if this has been suggested before, the search function still seems borked to me.
Some of the ‘painterly’ cutscenes that have been produced for the Living Story have been pretty awesome – the Tower of Nightmares exploding, Scarlet’s Demise, the (now non working) cutscene from Marjory’s Journal, etc, and it seems a shame to never be able to see them again.
I think it would be neat if they could be viewable through the scrying pool in the Hall of Monuments, or through something similar in the Home Instance.
As well as this, it could record/allow to be re-viewed things like painterly scenes from the personal story (character creation, joining one’s order, Caithe’s description of Orr in Arah Story, the final scene after the final personal story quest, etc).
These cutscenes are lovely and it would let people re-view parts of their story as well as add a little value to the personal instance.
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
Seriously. It’s bad enough I will just ‘lose’ any I have left over on the 18th with no other options – but they are still taking up slot spaces in rank chests and those mystery coffer things – which you have to pay silver for as well as glory.
Come on Anet. Get your act together.

Another youngish disabled person here – late 20s, hypermobile/EDS3. I have problems with my arms and legs both, and seeing Taimi in game made me smile; it’s not often that characters with disabilities show up at all in video games, never mind in MMOs.
thank you anet for creating this kitten little asura. It’s one thing to use games as escapism, to pretend that you can be abled or forget that you’re not; it’s another to see yourself in that mirror, looking back, not on the sidelines but as a hero.

Several people have made mention of the rising amount of materials we need in order to craft ascended gear. I really feel like this is important to note, given that our basic (meaning the base line) scale for maximum storage is 250 of any given item, having any recipe require 10,000 of something is downright punitive. You guys really need to think in terms of scale when you’re coming up with these recipes. If we are meant to be thinking in terms of tens of thousands of items, maybe you should increase our base storage accordingly (and keep properly scaled collection expanders on the gem store, of course). At some point, you have to (this was changed to kitten, for reasons that will become obvious, but the word I’m looking for is spelled just like access, except the c’s are s’es) kitten whether all those extra zeros really add anything, or if they could be factored down to reasonable amounts if the effort to gain them is increased, or something, to offset the decrease.
It seems fairly obvious, at least to me, that the amount of mats required for ecto refinement were set in order to soak up what anet determined to be an “excess”. They tried to do a similar thing with the Zephyr sanctum, exchanging mats for zephyr boxes, but that didn’t have a massive impact.
Ascended gear, particularly armour, has had a much more notable impact on supply/price of mats – disproportionately so on (say) silk scraps, which are not only required by all three armour crafting professions but in larger quantities than t5 ore/logs/leather. yes it soaks up a lot of the excess and makes silk worth something more than vendor+1c, but it also makes it a lot more expensive for folk without 400 tailoring to level it – and even more of an obnoxious grind to get ascended gear.
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
haha yes this would be amazing.
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
Anyone here have a huge complaint against the idea of being able to buy Ascended Weapon/Armor Chests with some of our account-bound currencies?
Maybe~
Guild Commendations – 150 commendations, any stats
Badges of Honor – 800 badges, any stats
Dungeon Tokens – 1,000 w/ stat combinations matching the each dungeons’ existing flavors
Fractal Relics – 1,500 w/ stat combinations matching the current capacitors((all quantities subject to change and offered only to inspire thought))
I like this idea, and not just because I was going to suggest it myself. Rare and exotic armour can already be bought with badges and tokens, and having the option to buy ascended armour with dungeon tokens would add another possibility for people who run dungeons.
regarding the fractal backpacks, by the time you have 1.5k relics you’d probably have more than enough to create an ascended backpack using the current process (i know that it was just a suggested number, but my point stands). the only thing i would say regarding this is that there needs to be some way to access stat combos not currently available other than crafting the old magic find packs, which are obnoxiously expensive compared to other routes and to be honest I’m not even sure is possible any more.
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
Ok another brainstorm idea.
What if certain pieces of ascended gear could be crafted and sold on the TP such as gloves and boots?
Chris
why only some?
this does not change the obscene amount of grind needed to get to 500 or produce them in the first place.
it also undermines the meaning of “ascension”. i assume it was chosen as the tier name as a reference to ascension in gw1. however that was something personal to the character in their storyline – it was horizontal progression in its own right (at least in as much as it was storyline progression, and also allowed secondary profession switching and entry into FoW and UW).
however there is nothing special or personal about ascended gear. grind gold, craft, sorted.
there is equally nothing legendary about legendaries. grind gold, buy from tp. alternatively grind gold and dump mats into the mystic toilet.
ascended and legendary gear could easily have been horizontally progressional as well, in that they were required to be forged in particular places or needed particular tasks to be performed other than “run the dungeon of choice 50 times and then grind cofp1 until your eyes bleed”. for example, needing to use an item on the corpse of the risen wizard at the gates of arah to gain a final piece to craft your own version of his sword, eternity. oh, and not allowing them to be sold on the tp, i will never understand why they weren’t at the very least acc bound on acquire.
but no. there is nothing special about ascension and legend in gw2 gear, just stat increases. this is what makes them boring. it is the exact opposite of gw1, where ascension came after trials in the desert, legends were forged in the hall of heroes, and neither of them came with an unneeded stat increase.
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
Im simply amazed at the amount of people that are opposed to vertical progression being confined to FoTM. If you think about it, it is the only place ascended gear is required(currently
). So why does a stat increase even need to exist outside of it?
If ascended stats were confined to fractals, then the rest of us who may not want to step foot into fractals would not need to worry about power creep or a treadmill in the open world.
Im very much in favor of this and again, Im amazed that people are against it.
Yep and kudos to you Cesmode for offering the counter argument.
Chris
It would still mean the above mentioned problems for people who do play fractals though. why does a stat increase need to exist outside of fractals – or inside – or at all?
frankly stat progression was a horrible idea to begin with and I would really prefer that there are no further gear tiers and no level cap increase. it wasn’t needed and has only split and polarised the player base.
bring in new skills, new weapons (including underwater weapons), new trait options, these are all great.
but please. no more gear tiers.

The Vigil focus is a candlestick with four candles. Makes sense, they’re the light in the darkness and all that.
I was really hoping the candles would light when drawn. Alas, no. They don’t even have to give off light like a torch, but just having the candles light up (perhaps with a little smoke) when the focus is drawn would be a nice little touch.
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
they gave everyone an extra 200 because there was some bug which meant that a lot of people didn’t get all the cogs they were due on one of the stops. enough to make up for the bug, not enough to make an extra mini.
i am sad that we can’t make the other minis this year, tho.
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
Princess dolls, definitely. Though if we could weaponise them against the elder dragons, we’d be sorted.

Tomes of Knowledge are 100% useless to me. I have 9 level 80’s and I am not going to buy a tenth slot for another character. What in the world am I going to do with 10 Tomes of Knowledge? I already have one in the vault collecting dust!
if used on a level 80 char they will give a level of xp = 1 skill point
used for buying skills, buying mats for use in the toilet (useful for making asc weapons, upgrading siege, etc)
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
i’m just curious if rivercart have learned to do things other than “man the arrow cart”.

Some guys got ascended weapons, some even legendary weapons – I myself got 4 rares, rest greens. I am ‘dissapoint’ ArenaNet …
I’m gonna have to request some source on that other than “LA mapchat”. I seriously doubt that the chests would drop Legendaries.

Props to UW who are playing this week. It’s never fun to be steamrolled, and it’s honestly not that fun to do the steamrolling – owning everything with no resistance makes for boring fights and boring trips to the Mists.
May your matchups in the next league be fairer.

Man funny I should happen to see this! Why not reply to the original post? Or is necro-ing not really a thing around here? Anyhoo.
The first two words that he cites in his bullet points are probably accurate. But, when you get a bunch of professional actors and actresses together, all of whom are given a script, none of whom are very likely to know the native language of the Welsh, and several of whom probably aren’t even aware that there is a native language of the Welsh other than English. Chances are very very high that you are going to get mispronounced words all over the place.
No, and I concede this point (did I address it in my original post? I forget). But that’s what voice coaches are for. With anything that uses words which are unusual in English (never mind in other languages or made up entirely) you’ll get strange pronounciations, or have people misinterpreting how a word is supposed/intended to be pronounced. Frankly that is not much of an excuse, at least not in my book. Doubly so when using professionals.
To put it another way: Quenya was based fairly explicity on Welsh, and when creating pronounciation guides Tolkein managed not to screw up, and Peter Jackson stuck to them. When you’re using language that’s not just a conlang based on another language but is actually actively borrowing words and phrases wholesale from another language (especially when it’s that languages myths and culture you are attempting to emulate and evoke) it’s generally good form to at least try and get the pronounciation right.
So please tell me again, why is it that Apple Castle doesn’t make sense in regards to Arthurian Legend? Add to that the plant based nature of the sylvari, their society, and their architecture and there is even more reason why a castle made of magically sculpted apple trees would make sense to some extent.
Well except that there is nothing at all in either the area or in the Sylvari story (that I recall) where apples play any prominent part. If there was then I could have let it slide, probably, but it was completely without context. Moreover, it was titled “apple fort” in the middle of a place whose English/English-stand-in name is Fort Trinity. Yet the Sylvari-equivalent is Fort Apple, and while as someone with an apple-based handle I can’t entirely object there just doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason within the context of the fort or Trahearne himself for that name to have been given to it.
In regards to the name Gweithwyr, that was probably a botched attempt on their part to reference Guinevere.
That… is an enormous stretch. If they wanted to reference her (ps, that’s her French name; the Welsh would actually be Gwenhwyfar, which is even further from Gweithwyr) then she’d appear as- well, as a Guinevere-alike, complete with an Arthur-alike and a Lancelot-alike and maybe Scarlet would turn out to be Morgan le Faye or something. Sorry but I really don’t buy that at all. Frankly that poor Sylvari and her name seem to me to be much more likely to be a lesson in why not to put too much faith in Google Translate.
Also he specifically singled out Cymraeg (Welsh) and Gailge (Irish)… why only those two?
Because those are the two I am most familiar with, and because Welsh and Irish mythology (and/or pop-mythology) are what Anet have explicitly stated that the Sylvari lore was inspired by.

the best resurrecting anim i’ve come across is when culling has kicked in and it looks like people are mining the corpse.
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
on the up side, at least female heavy armour characters can finally totter around in narrow kitten heels in combat! because obviously it’s not enough that they leave vital organs exposed, now they have to make sure they’re able to trip just right for those all important panty shots!!
and to think i used to love this game and actually recomend it to people who were tired of the usual crap we get in mmos.
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
Yes, there are some female gamers and some who read comics, but they far fewer than their male counterparts.
I have no idea about comics, and I don’t know what the exact figures are for GW2, but recent surveys show that around 50% of gamers are female. This idea that women are a tiny minority of gamers also needs to die; it is horrifically inaccurate.
I thought all of this “fluff” was just part of the MMO experience. Isn’t that what skimpy armor and flaming weapons are all about? It’s eye candy, and not meant to be taken seriously.
If it’s “fluff”, then why are so many people opposed to the idea of parity in armour skimpiness?
Again: I am not calling for no skimpy armour. I am simply requesting that there are more non-skimpy options for those who want them, and for where armour sets for female toons are designed as skimpy, for those sets to also be (as) revealing for male characters (and vice versa, where an armour set is unrevealing, it is unrevealing for both sexes).
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
It’s just our culture…sex sells. It’s in the movies, it’s on TV, it’s in comic books, it’s everywhere. Sex sells.
I am tired of seeing this argument. It’s simply not true. If it were as simple as “sex sells”, you’d see male bodies objectified and sexualised in the same way female ones are. Spoiler: that doesn’t happen. ‘Sex sells’ is a message sold in order to justify the continued exploitation of women and of female bodies.
Really Anet, for a game that seeks to break the hetero-normative culture that dominates the video game industry, I expect much more from you.
This is like 99% of what frustrates me so much. Guild Wars has been so progressive in some areas (including same-sex relationships without so much as batting an eyelid, putting poc and women and woc into positions of high authority without so much as batting an eyelid, having so many varied human cultures rather than just generic medieval europe inspired mash…) that it grates when failures like this happen.
To reiterate, once again:
If Anet wants to make skimpy armours, of whatever weight class, for female characters, that is their prerogative. What I am requesting is that
1) where a female set is skimpy/fanservicey, the male version of that set is equally so
(particularly where a female set offers boob windows and thigh windows and midriff windows for typically melee characters – warriors and guardians – while male sets give full body protection)
2) there are more options (particularly in light armour) for players who wish to have their toons not showing so much skin (again, particularly in regard to female characters; the only humanoid male light armour set that lets me show a bit of thigh is the Tactical set, yet I have a much wider choice for humanoid female sets which show off skin of the legs)
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
…I guess I’ll get used to it. I always like the way that Sylvari armours looked before, though. i guess it made sense to me that it would pull their leaf and glow colours through, subtly influencing the way their leaf armour had grown around them. Now it’s just… bland.
bleh.
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
(edited by applecup.3047)
There is significantly MORE heavy armor that is NOT skimpy then skimpy for females – so I hate to break it to you but arguing that there is an imbalance is arguing for more skimpy heavy armor to be made available- which I am not against
There is plenty of realistic heavy, covering armor in the game – just because you may not prefer those designs doesn’t mean there is an imbalance.
I am not arguing for more skimpy heavy armour. I have no idea where you got that idea, and frankly the fact that Anet have not gone down the oh so predictable “chainmail bikini” route is one of the reasons I love this game.
Of course, the recently released Phalanx set really made me “urgh” when I saw the female Heavy skin; bare upper breasts and thighs again for female toons, a fully covering set for males. Either have the men similarly unprotected, or don’t create sets which could pass as a “sexy warrior hallowe’en costume”.
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
Before I type any further I just want to put a disclaimer:
I know that some players (of whatever gender) like dressing their toons (of whatever gender) in skimpy armour for whatever reason. This post is not aimed at you. Go forth and continue to do whatever the kitten you want.
What I am tired of is the imbalance between male and female armour design.
I am tired of sets like heavy Whispers and heavy Phalanx which have inexplicable boob windows and thigh windows, and sets like heavy Vigil which have huge gaps in their side, leaving vital organs highly vulnerable (for a military organisation? really?) – while their male equivalents have none of the above. I get that people want some sexy armours, but… frankly boob and gut windows are not sexy, they’re ridiculous, and an insult to the game and its world, to the artists and designers and players both.
I am tired of the mistmatch between male and female outfits. Masquearade, Phoenix, Feathered… particularly in light armour, the male and female armours look completely different. If you want to have a skimpy armour for female characters, fine, but let the men show some thigh (and chest, and shoulder, and…). The phoenix armour (Kasmeer’s armour) is particularly bad in this respect – the male armour has basically nothing in common with the female design. Why can’t I have my male ele or mesmer (or necro) trailing feathers where he goes? Why can’t I have my female ele or mesmer (or necro) wearing something that looks much closer to robes than it does to underwear?
Masquearade armour is another particularly egregerious example of this; the female set is some bizarre fetish underwear setup which is apparently held in place by sheer willpower (and/or double sided sticky tape), whereas the male set is… a fairly practical looking set of robes.
If you want to show off some leg (or midriff, or underboob, or cleavage) on a female toon you have more options than you can shake a stick at (and conversely, if you want to dress your toons more conservatively and/or practically, you have very limited options). If you want to show off some leg/chest/etc on a male toon you have very limited options (almost nonexistent for light and medium, perversely), but have plenty of options for armour that is conservative and/or practical.
(“practical” here used for a given value thereof, given as this is a fantasy game)
TO REITERATE: I am not against skimpy armours, I simply feel that they should be equal opportunity and offered alongside a (preferably) equal number of non-skimpy options. I am not criticising people who choose to dress their toons in whatever manner they please.
I get that what is currently in the game will probably remain the way it is (though I would plead you do something about charr tail clipping, etc). But I beg of you, Arenanet, please consider making future armour sets look like part of the same set, regardless of gender; offer more options for female characters who don’t want to show all their skin, and for male ones who do.
thank you.

yolo queue
This is possibly the best typo/description I have seen for solo q, and I say this as a soloq player. Slightly more on topic tho, thank you for taking time out of your weekend to keep posting here.
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
Apologies for bumping an old post but a friend and I have experienced this same issue and I wanted to keep everything in one place.
Teq and Blightgast use the same model, or at least look alike.
As for the bug, it’s happened to a friend and I twice. Both of the times she opened the instance and I joined her, once with a character who had finished the campaign and once with a character also at the claw island step. Both times it has bugged out.
The mission goes as normal up to the appearance of Ol Blighty himself (itself?). The cutscene plays as normal, but afterwards he (it?) is absent. The wall has disappeared (in its usual, slightly buggy, manner, with things that had been on top of the now absent sections still up there) but there is no dragon visible, and no further objectives are given. The first time we encountered this we blamed Trahearne and then gave up.
In today’s run I accidentally found out how to fix this. It seems like (amongst other things) a script isn’t firing properly, as I went over to Blighty’s spot to investigate and poof! the dragon pops into view, as if by magic (and/or as if the lod information for him is iffy). He roared at me and reared on his hind legs, my character spent several seconds running into a wall due to the fear, and the mission finally proceeded as it should.
With the minor exception that Blighty was still not visible from the entrance-side of Claw Island.
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
Before I begin: I accept that I am not the world’s best player. I am disabled; I have an arthritic condition, and I can only play for so long before I am in too much pain to continue, especially continues JPs like SAB. I enjoyed World 1 a lot, and I have enjoyed what I have of World 2 (even if the difficulty and length are both a big step up from the end of World 1).
However last night I encountered the final straw with this content. At the end of 2-3, the final sequence from the ice spike room before the yeti up to the final boss.
1) Tiny ledges. Those really thin ones which you probably shouldn’t be able to jump on but are supposed to anyway and look as though you’re floating in air when you stand on due to the strangeness of collision boxes. I had a difficult enough time aiming for and remaining on these things on my asura. I pity anyone who tried this with a Norn or Charr.
2) Rooms full of spike pits anywhere outside of Tribulation Mode. I mean really? Especially when I don’t even get a chance to line up my next jump before I’m knocked back into the pit by an immediately respawning icicle. Losing progress is punishment enough, especially when I’m expected to expertly clamber up multiple tiny ledges in order to get knocked off the platform again.
3) Disconnects. Seriously, why hasn’t this been looked at yet. The game is a year old and we still don’t even have a five minute grace period for private instances in case of a login server/router tantrum. In my case, the login server had a fit when I’d finally made it to the Storm Wizard after several hours of cursing and failing, got him down to about a third of his HP, and then… “the login server is inaccessible”. Really? It wasn’t even as though my net dropped, as GW2 was the only program that disconnected.
This, for me, was the final straw. Everything I’d endured and figured out and slogged past and bam, it was undone in a split second by something that wasn’t even within reasonable control. Sorry Anet, and to everyone who worked so kitten this, but I’m done.
Even if points one and two are simple cases of “l2p”, please Anet for the love of $deity, fix this. Add persistent checkpoints for long zones, especially in the case of Tribulation Mode. Fix being instantly kicked from instances on a d/c. Something. Anything.
(Before anyone says it: yes, I know infantile mode is a thing that exists, but that won’t get me the academic achievement now will it. I don’t expect everything to be as easy as 1-1 and nor would I want it to be, but I do feel, especially as someone who only really started playing SAB with this update. There is a notable spike when you hit 2-1 compared to the curve in in world 1, and it keeps on spiking. Sadism in Trib mode is fine; not so mch in normal mode, thanks)
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
Infantile mode doesn’t change how long the zones are, it just adds a way to skip the harder jumping – for the main path of the zone only.
And 2-2 is really kittening long.
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
Honestly even with an ICC, I found w2z2 to be obnoxiously long. Fun, challenging, but just really long, especially since if you quit or get dced you lose all progress. Splitting it into two zones, or if the tech was available for persistent checkpoints (something which I know probably wouldn’t be added even if it was technically feasible), would have made me much fonder of it. Especially since I loved being able to see at least -some- form of Cantha.

I suspect that the message sent out was a cut-n-paste job sent to everyone who had logged the issue.
An Officer and a Gentlewoman
It’s probably not true. Five of the Gods left for the Mists 1000+ years ago, and the sixth one joined them 250 years ago. Unless he has access to the Mists, there is no way Zhaitan could have eaten them. I suspect that the Risen priests believed what they were saying, but had either been lied to by Zhaitan/its minions, or drawn erroneous conclusions when they were reanimated and saw what had happened.

yeah I was about to post that I just redid the event level 39 and got the chest. I know that rares only drop from 39 (?) but it seems a bit off to deny lower level players even a green… oh well, consider this caseclosed

Hi
Last two days I’ve done the Ulgoth chain in Hirathi on my warrior (and her only) – level 37 Asura. Got completion credit, champ loot, main chest, etc – but no bonus chest on either day? Is it because of her level or is this bugged? I know when I ran this chain while levelling my engineer I’d get the bonus chest once per day but I don’t recall what level(s) she was when I was levelling there
