If you have those characters are endgame why are you comparing completely different profs to one and another?

ArenaNet has stated that the Thief by design is slippery, it’s THE classes that just slips between your fingers THUS that means that you can’t quite kill it before they get away.

Guardians have much more survivability, due to acces to protections boons and innate health regenerations, not too mention a free block every 40 seconds or so (very crucial in sPvP)

A Thief is always glass, it’s just depending on the spec if it’s going to be a cannon or needle gun to the testicles.

Just deal with it that Thief by design will always be annoying in sPvP, it’s the core design of the entire profession. Stealth is here to stay, and FYI even when in stealth we can still be hit.

Just deal with it and move along.

That’s so stupid how can you say Thieves in general use a rendering bug while they simply just use their stealth ability for either offense or defense. Don’t put the blame on Thieves if you are too stupid to use the dodge roll button.

This is fine if they nerf Backstab, but if they do and only if they do nerf us.
They will need to completely overhaul the Thief profession, because the golden rule for Thieves is: Kill it before it kills you!

If we are no longer able to quickly kill something then there is no reason to roll any build for Thief, because we do not have the support other classes have. If you look at your skill arsenal everything screams DPS DPS DPS DPS IT DOWN.

If they nerf it, i’m very curious on what they will balance in other things to even it out. Starting with higher base health and toughness.

Then so should everything else in the game.

There are some skills in the other professions arsenal that also use up charges but do not go away after you miss. They will stay active until you hit unlike Thieves’ venoms which are gone even if you hit a utility skill.

Guardians can use their virtue and never have to worry about missing, this is unbalanced and unfair. If you miss with your virtue well then screw you and better watch where you hit next time.

Tried 4 or 5 times, then said “nope, I’m’a farm some more candy corns.” Been happy since.

When I made this map I was HOPING that people who aren’t into jumping would do exactly this. They’d see a fun Halloween looking environment, maybe get to the first chest and snag a goodie, then be on their merry way. I see now it was a mistake to make the hardest jumping challenge in the game part of an in-your-face update like a holiday event. I’m not going to stop making difficult stuff like this, they just won’t be so prominent in the future. I honestly hate making people upset and have a very high level of empathy. So it’s been hard hearing all the people that are so angry, frustrated and sad because of something I’ve made. But it’s just another lesson learned.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? Why would you apologize!? It took me 8 times without a guide on the internet to solve the puzzle, through mistakes you learn and the great thing is that it’s repeatable so fast that you cannot be annoyed really!

PLEASE PLEASE Make more puzzles that are HARDER in difficulty! And the joy must be longer! I loved your puzzle! I love it so much that I do it atleast several times a day just for the rush!

It’s a fact that ArenaNet loves Greatswords and Warrior things a like, anything big really gains the favor in terms of design because it’s easier to do cool stuff with it.

However I think ArenaNet should take on the challenge to do something really cool with smaller weapons too. Anyway for now we just have to deal with it that Daggers get the short end of the stick.

On topic, yeah the dagger does kinda suck.

Btw hint of creativity for ArenaNet, a Dagger design that shows just the hilt when seathed and when drawn it shows a red/black tentacle as a blade.

Cmon I just made that up in like 30 seconds, it isn’t that hard ANet!

In the PvP locker there is now an extra slot for some Halloween items, I would assume they can also be crafted. I’ve tried putting Candy Corn in the PvP Forge but it doesn’t mix with anything.

Has anyone found one of the skins in a chest?

I actually think you make a valid statement here OP, most if not all nerfs to Thief have been due to PvP and PvE takes the hits mostly because didn’t consider how it will influence skill changes there (Look at Pistol Whip).

They have seperated the Guardian shout skill to have a split functionality in PvP and PvE so here goes the first step into flawed skill balancing.

I’m behind you a 100% that it’s kinda of stupid that PvE Thieves have to suffer (Coming from a PvP player).

Btw if I can give you a little advice, you can play WvW which is kind of like PvE but with a little PvP which is pretty fun.

Or roll a Guardian which I did also and really enjoy that atm.

Stealth need revamp

Sorry for my bad english. I mainly play engineer for most of the time. Now I trying thief just for fun and.. This class is so OP then its not even fun. I agree with dmg its stealth class, its work alike in other games but stealth possibility is simply ridiculous.

Few ideas for balance:
- allow apply fully functional stealth only out of combat
- if stealth will be used in combat it disable weapon skills while invisible – stealth in fight must be only escape mechanic!
- before hit from stealth must thief appear 0.5-1s (or add some “incoming” sound) before hit to get player chance to counter this attack. Now is Backstab uncounterable win win button.
- Show hit dmg if thief get aoe dmg in stealth for better identification of his position.
- All attack actions in stealth MUST remove invisible.
- Disable stealth while thief finishing players – for most of classes its uncounterable.

1. No, stealth is used as a tool for combat. It has no purpose outside of it.
2. No, stealth is both an escape and an offensive ability, we have seperate stealth skills to attack rendering your point moot.
3. No, you should train yourself in PvP instead to anticipate a Thief’s opening attack.
4. Backstab is a win or lose button, you can stay in stealth and regenerate or run away/closer or try to get a Backstab off. Both can be considered offensive and defensive by definition.
5. No, if Thief is invisible there is no reason to pop numbers on the screen to tell you if you hit. If you desperatly want to know if you hit a stealthed Thief then open combat log instead of chat log.
6. No, while stealthed you can still be CC’d, meaning while we are stomping we can be interrupted, in return of stealth stomping we have no access to Stability other than Dagger Storm which when used disables the ability to stomp someone.

There is nothing to see in this thread, hopefully i’ve put the nail in the coffin and let’s bury this thread amongst the other QQ I don’t want to learn the game and I lost my first sPvP match to a Thief.

^Actually I’ve seen people report that it isn’t 100% chance to crit out of stealth, so the trait might be bugged to not always give 100% chance to critical on the first hit out of stealth, also it’s a 30 point trait it should be pretty strong.

^They do have great survival but only if stealthed and if you can get into it. Usually if im on the losing end of a fight wether this is 1v1 or 1v5 when I can get my stealth off I can if I put all effort and skills into it get a 50/50 chance of turning the tide, but it’s a big gamble.

Thieves don’t have a balancing issue, it’s either we go Glass Cannon or we go Glass Cannon, because if we spec into defensive toughness/vitality we are still very fragile and it’s been like that from day one. So hence why 99% of the Thieves go full out power because it doesn’t matter if we have 5k more HP or not we still die in seconds.

So don’t come here and saying we are crying we are nerfed all the time because we have the right to complain about patches and skill updates, lowering our damage is plain stupid because that we are ment to do.

- Enemy team entirely disappearing?/Kicked?

Thieves have initiative. If you heartseeker and miss, you waste initiative. If you C&D and miss, you waste initiative. If you use an ability and it’s blocked, you waste initiative.
Backstab doesn’t cost initiative (and rightly so) but it should still follow the rules.
So the change is simple. Either add a 2 second cooldown to backstab or make it so when backstab is used, it breaks stealth.
No more sitting stealth spamming backstab into blinds/blocks.
There. Balanced.

Backstab follows the rules, when you strike someone with Backstab you break Stealth and then gives you the ’’Revealed’’ debuff which prevents stealthing again for a few seconds.

So it already has a cool down and if you are blinded and miss with Backstab your Basilisk Venom goes to waste, because it used up a charge.

Also you can break Basilisk Venom stun with a stunbreaker, please read patch notes or play the Thief before posting.

Looking at you the balancing team, don’t you dare touch that ability.
You nerfed Pistol Whip and Heartseeker, I get it people whine about it but this is what you get with stealthy arche type classes they do alot of damage when they come out of stealth.

Thieves have been nerfed each patch because of excessive whining, if you get owned by certain builds then by all means learn the darn class that you’re having trouble with.

If you’re going to reduce our skills their effectiveness then maybe you should give us more skills to work with, kitten is up with Sword and Dagger huh? There isn’t a single trait that’s Sword exclusive (Such kitten more damage with a Sword).

Nerfed Basilisk Venom, an unbreakable 1 sec stun to a 1.5 sec breakable, so how about the Moa? 10 Sec? Of running around as a floppy bird with no skills? Have you even considered that? No because people got steamrolled by Thieves with low health low armor and high power just like the build is supposed to be. They kill and die quick.

To all people that say Backstab is OP nerf it to the ground! Go to sleep and bring a stunbreaker to PvP because this aint Queensdale no more!

Flanking Strike keeps missing

This skill worked fine when I used it in BWE1, it always did what it had to do but now since launch I noticed it missed and just places your character to the side (not the side of the enemy) but really to the right all the time.

This is obviously a bug

Done about 3 tourneys and havent received a single chest, I was supposed to get a silver one and 2x bronze but nothing appears while others do receive them.

Im aware of some delay but a few days is a little long.

THIEF Flanking Strike pathing bugged

I’m pretty sure it’s been brought up before but the Flanking Strike S/D Dual #3 skill has issues with it’s pathing, in BWE1 I used it with great succes in sPvP but somewhere down the line the pathing got broken (It wasn’t in BWE1)

I figured ANet had time to fix HS leap pathing so they should be able to fix Flanking strike too.

Guys whatever it is and how they do it it needs to stop, it’s highly annoying and I don’t want to put pressure on ArenaNet but it’s kind of a big deal. It’s like walking down a street where shop owners literally pull you inside their shop to look at their wares.

Gold sellers are rude this way with the mailing situation and reporting them won’t ever stop it.

I won’t buy MoP but I will definatly buy some sub time every now and then, I have been and still am a big fan of GW2 but there are aspects I miss that have yet (and im sure they will be) to be implemented such as more PvP modes.

ArenaNet doesn’t need to take away all WoW players and bring them to GW2 that was never their motto, their motto was that GW2 is F2P once it’s bought and gave us the freedom to play other games and come back to GW2 whenever you feel like it.

Botting issue and permanent ban

I just took a walk through Queensdale and it didn’t take long before I saw the first botter followed by many many more bots, I decided to follow those bots I saw in the current area and reported them. Then I took a walk to another close area and again I saw the first bot teleporting around followed by many many more bots.

I had seen some bots before and remembered the names and reported them but they are still in the same exact spot doing the same exact thing, is reporting even effective then?

Also when we report and ArenaNet receives that and confirms for themselves that the respective player is botting I would like to make the suggestion:

To permanently lock down that account

I find the botting issue to be highly annoying, I remember it being bad in GW1 with the 55HP Monks but this is also starting to get a little ridiculous.

I have video footage of it incase proof is needed but haven’t upped it on YouTube yet.

Punish them ArenaNet and punish them hard.

I just realized that the title for the maximum rank in structured PvP is named: Ascendant, however the 25 point title reward for your Hall of Monuments is also named: Ascendant.

Screenshot included in this post, I think it is safe to say that ArenaNet will need to come up with a new max tier title for sPvP.

I was about to create a furious post about this nerf, not because it’s a big nerf but that it’s a nerf balanced because of PvP and not PvE. This is the first step in ArenaNet slipping control over the whiners, because people whined about HS and it got changed.

I don’t use HS often in both PvE and PvP but there are people that do and just because 9/10 Thieves in PvP use HS doesn’t mean we all do, and it’s the easiest skill to counter by just dodge rolling or stunning them.

BTW if HS get’s a nerf then 100b/Evis and Kill Shot all deserved to be nerfed too.

This is a post regarding Thief and PvE! (Player versus Environment)!

In one of the blogs or posts ArenaNet has made they said that they the professions that needed the most love where: Necromancer, Mesmer and Thief.

However where is the love for Thief? I play alot of sPvP because i’m not really a PvE’er but also because I find the Thief very difficult to give a role in group or solo play aside from X/P Black Powder spam.

Here’s my thoughts about it, when you compare iniative and the skills of the Thief versus other professions cooldown skills it’s obvious that Thief needs some sweet luvving.

When you are in PvE you will encounter several mobs at a time, thus you need AoE for those mobs which we can with the following weapons: D/D (Death blossom, Dancing Dagger) S/P (Auto Attack and Pistol Whip) Shortbow (Trick Shot, Cluster Bomb and Choking Gas) X/P for Black Powder.

Now that we know what what weapons use AoE skills we need to examine what these skills do at what cost? Here’s the problem with the skills: when we use iniative to activate for example Pistol Whip, we use up 5 initiative which is by default half of your resource to do other stuff. When we compare this to for example a similar attack Blurred Frenzy from the Mesmer line that takes 10 seconds to recharge so essentially you can use a free Pistol Whip every 10 seconds but for Thieves you use one Pistol Whip to do damage but you will lose 5 iniative to do other stuff like Infiltrators Strike to get out of an AoE that could kill you. Something a Mesmer or any other class with normal cooldowns do not suffer from, they could use all of their abilities because they would not be limited by a resource but with a cooldown which they can save for later when the situation calls for it, if a Thief wants to do damage he will need to activate 2x Pistol Whip for 10 iniative, this will cause the Thief to hang with his pants down his well.. you know So you now have 0 iniative so you will need to autoattack to damage and wait 3 seconds to get out of the enemy AoE which by then has already hit you, with a Thief in sPvP this is not a problem because 1. Normal cooldowns need to be managed in a fight 2. Initiative becomes a great mechanic for picking which ability when.

I hope everyone understands what im trying to say with this example, it’s that in PvE the trade off for using skills for the cost of their respective initiative is too low. We have mediocre AoE at best, little diversity in combo fields and even combo field starters in comparison to other professions, to top it all off if a Thief wants to do AoE you will have to spam that one skill that does AoE because other skills in that weapon set have little to no AoE which in return also costs iniative. (Exception of great AoE skills: Shadow Refuge, Daggerstorm, Cluster Bomb: Blast and ofcourse Caltrops!)

On a smaller note regarding utility skills is that I personally love most skills such as Caltrops, Shadow Refuge and Scorpion Wire, but when it comes to Skale Venom and Traps in general I cannot say anything positive about them. Maybe here someone has found a succesfull use of those utilities but so far I haven’t encountered any purpose of those skills in both sPvP and PvE. If you have found a use for those skills please share!

My conclusion and personal view is that the Thief does not need number buffs but changes in skill behavior and think of a solution of initiative in PvE so it’s more viable for solo and group play. Currently key to succes in PvE for Thief is Black Powder (observed from posts on Guru and Reddit where Black Powder is wildly suggested). I think Thief is awesome and a very flashy profession and unique in every way and it’s for 1v1, but thats a situation you hardly encounter in PvE. I also believe that Thief is fine in many aspects but the one thing that is unfixed is that due to iniative one skill in a weaponset will be superior to others automatically making it the skill of choice for many Thieves which is in my opinion a waste of creativity (because it doesnt matter how awesome the other skill is by design it will be inferior to others in comparison). Again in PvP you usually use most if not all weapon skills in different situations. (Except for Heartseeker Thieves 2-2-2-2-2 kekeke)

Please also note that this is not a wtf theif sux n33d buff post im hoping for a constructive posts and thoughts so that the Thief profession receives the love and change it deserves and that was promised, I love the Thief in PvP and I want to love it in PvE too!
