I like that my Guardian is encased in gleaming mithril and isn’t lost among the plated necros and elementalists. That’s my only (selfish) concern. Death Knights… shudder
Instead, you’re lost among the other plate classes that look almost exactly the same as you.
By mixing armor styles, you open up a huge door for character customization, and really allow players to get creative with how they express their character’s appearance.
More options means less chances for your character to “get lost” amongst the other players.
And again, it’s purely for looks. There’s no advantage given to a necro putting on a plate-armor look, so why does everyone assume that ever cloth class is going to instantly switch to all heavy armor, and vice versa?
There is an advantage, some players have no sense of style and would hate to see Style Wars. Cosmetics are an advantage! Why do we deny it?
I got the same bug! Whats up?!
why? because they love you more!
I agree with OP, game is nearly FLAWLESS
In every way.
“Message Body length must at least be 15.”
15 what?
One day, our side will be heard. There wont be doing what the game dev wants without asking the players first. That days comming, and the game developers around the world are trembling at the thought.

DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. It’s generally used to stop piracy, not bots. The counter measures used by the dev team make it harder to bot. The reports that people give make it harder to bot. Believe it or not there has been a drastic decrease in bots, and I believe it’s because of the dev teams efforts in this regard. If I must suffer through a few months of a few side effects that don’t break the game for me in order to have a stable game down the road, I am more than happy to.
Thanks for the explanation. I meant to say diminished returns. I dont even care about that. I play for the experience and whats ever more bothering is all the things put in this game or should I say taken out , things that made life convenient are absent in this game for 1 reason. Anit-Bot measures.
The targetting is never predictable, Movement is clunky, what happened to autorun to target? playing meele is a pain in the kitten with keyboard. This game would never pass console standard on movement alone, thanks to anti bot measures. Even the portal names to the different starter areas in lions arch dont show up unless youre 1 step from entering it … why? why am i forced to walk up each one too see the name? is it because of the imfamous beetletun botters youd see in guild wars 1 autoruning to the town sign to exit? Seriosuly, did anet think they’d end all bots with this one or what?
Did someone really think that removing elements that made video gaming more intuitive and less cumbersome would end botters for good? laughs wow
(edited by bigtime.7410)
Im getting sick of it. All the things that make this game annoying are aimed at bots but instead kitten off real players like me.
DRM
does a bot really care? no itll just bot 24/7
Targetting
I still cant target what I want when I want?
do bots care? no they’ll work around it
Portals
I cant press alt, and even get the name of a portal to show up. I have to walk right up to it.
Anti bot messasure? Of course it is.
It seems Anet tried really hard to kitten off bot makers, they didnt, they gave them a new challenge and they’re having fun making better bots.
But the player is left to deal with so many unfriendly game design elements designed to stop botters.
Whos with me?! Ive had enough!!
skill system superior in GW1 than GW2 (game breaker for me )
world system superior in GW1 than GW2 ( in gw1 it took some effort to get to the next outpost, respawning mobs and world event zergs ruined any sort of accoplishment felt by killing a tough enemy)
Whats the point of levels if everything is downscaled? If the challenge is going to be equalized no matter what level im at, then whats it matter about levels?
In short, all the things that made me play GW1 are absent in GW2. I really have to stop people from buying this game, it feels like the right thing to do.
What about me I just bought the game at full price? I didnt get an extra 4 months. I want my money back
Just buy some gems and convert to gold.
wow cool, now what?
Why isn’t it fair? You get all of the content and more without resorting to the gem store. You can make gold selling things to the people who paid for the gold. Finally, you can still beat them in WvWvW and PvP easily. How is this not fair towards you? Are you those people who think that working is easy?
Its not fair because this is a multiplayer game and I cant compete on a level playing field with cash shop players. Its not fair because theyre charging you twice to win.
Cosmetics are fine to have in a cash shop…, also B2p is a MUCH better model with cosmetic micro transactions then a pay to win F2p model…
Sorry GW is never going pay to play or free to play…its a 1 time price game and if u cant handle that…bye? “you wont play” the game as is sept you’re posting on forums meaning u have a account…ok thanks for the money bro…see ya
They sell gold, were have you been? Gold isnt a cosmetic, its the thing in this game. In every MMO. In life. Besides, even if it was just cosmetics (which its not) why do you think cosmetics are fine in a cash shop? They arent, getting unique items is part of the PVE competition, and in a competition it shouldnt be pay to win.
Make the game F2P , free to play. Cash shop players pay for normal players, its how the model works. GW2 going free to play would bring tonnes more people to the game and possible gem buyers. I already spent my money, its gone, everyone here has, so I wouldnt be upset if the game went free to play. It should have to begin with , with a cash shop shouldnt have it? Well dumb question, if they can get away with charging a box price on top then why not? Well Ill tell you why, because it didnt attract the F2P crowd cash shops attract, it attracted normal gamers who got dissappointed with the obviouse pay to win mechanic. Well most of us. Works for everybody. Id play this for free, but not for a $60 cover price, not if anets selling gold too, thats not fair.
I retired at level 42. None of the things that I liked and made me play guild wars 1 are in this game. I wont be recommending it to anyone. Hopefully the cash shop turns into a big flop and Anets attempts at getting rich by disgracing the oringal game fail bigtime.
And even if it was just cosmetic it still makes the game pay to win. The whole point of cosmetics is to compete against other peoples cosmetics, so if you can just buy them then it kills the whole point of the pve competition of acquiring them or getting gold to buy them.
I loved playing around making unique builds for specific mobs and farming them in GW1. None of that is here in GW2. To me PVE was all be about farming, different mobs different loots, different builds to beat them, exploring finding better farm areas. Seeing how well you farm compared to others in towns with the loots you wear and bring in, now that was a competition that didnt invovle taking 1 shot at your foe, but it was there, it was real and it was fun in GW1. Its missing here, with anti farming, buting gold, no builds as im aware of. Ive been using the same skills at level 42 as I did at 1 and I see no reason to change them. All these things kill PVE competition. It seems like all the thing that made GW1 are absent in GW2. Why?
What is the point of beating someone?
In both pve and pvp it depends on your skill, not your gold.
Wow, great question, If I had an answer Id have the answer to life itself. What is the point? Well I know in video games its to make the developers richer, but in life, would that mean we’re just being used by gods to make them richer somehow?
But that getting a little off topic, I was wondering If this argument would fly at a video game store, anyone worked at one? Would you issue a refund? Id obviously forfeit the account to anet aswell.
At the moment, there is nothing offered for money that exceeds the items you can obtain in game. If you are referring to Legendary/Ascended gear, you can obtain those in game without spending a penny. Also, The stats on said gear, does not have a massive advantage over someone in exotics, which can -easily- be bought for a decently low cost. Or use Karma to get the “best” gear from the vendors in Orr. I fare quite well against most players after never having spent a dollar in the cash shop. You can compete just fine with the tools given to any player in Guild Wars 2.
Well I agree, this game does let you finish the race… but the point of competing is having a chance to finish first isnt it? And Its impossible to do that without paying extra. Sure I can finish last, but why would I pay for a game that wont let me win, and it didnt say I cant win before I bought it.
No, you don’t. There is nothing you “need” to buy to enjoy this game. If you -want- something that takes a long time to get, that’s completely different than -needing- it to accomplish other tasks. May I ask how you cannot beat the game with the tools given without paying extra?
Well like I said, I defined “beat” in a multiplayer game in terms of getting to the top, having the best and most of everything. I cant do that unless I spend more money on this game, because it is impossible to beat someone whos paying for gold instead of earning it like game is originally sold. You know what I mean, basically I cant compete unless I buy gems, but I was under the impression buying the box would let me compete. Why else would i buy a multiplayer game? to be able to compete. and I cant unless I pay extra, therefore they sold me a broke game.
Right?
You don’t even have remotely close to a case.
Why not?
So If I went back to the video game store and said, “hey, I want my money back, I cant beat this game unless I pay extra” That should work shouldnt it? Some would say this game isnt beatable, id say yes, its multiplayer therefore the one who gets to the top first, with the most whatever beats it. And you cant do that unless you pay extra. Therefore its like selling me a broken game, and then saying I have to pay extra to fix it. Thats not moral, let alone legal. You cant sell a gimped product and then ask for more money to ungimp it. Its a pay to win game, after I already payed. You have to pay extra to win, but I already bought it under the impression I could win. So I think I have a case here, what do you guys think?
The problem with DR is that it is basically hypocritical.
You don’t want people to grind for things (sounds great so far) so you want to discourage it as much as possible. But….you make having large amounts of money (gold/karma/tokens/badges) required for most anything desirable.
So you don’t want people to grind, but you force people to do so to get what they want.
I believe the concept was that it would slow people down and take them months to get their things and keep them playing for longer. The problem with that, is there is just not enough content to do to keep people playing for that long without a grind. Making alts or doing hearts can be a grind in itself.
You could also argue that they put DR into place so that more people would buy gems and turn them into gold to get what they want. Which could also be the case.
I am sure no player wants to grind an area or event to get what they want, it is never fun. But they have to basically to get what they want, so that is why they do it. If you don’t want people to grind just lower the prices on everything by 90%, it would be much more effective then a DR. In fact DR just encourages more grinding by making people do more to get what they want.
Its not contradictory, they dont want you to grind, they want you to BUY!! go buy some gems. See, no grind! Man… I wont be recommending this game to anyone I went out of my way to bring people into GW1 but this just … no comment. Im gonna keep my mouth shut.
I’m sure no major gaming company with high standards would celebrate winning GameSpot PC game of the year beating the likes of Dishonoured, Mass Effect, The Walking Dead and Xcom.
Why? Gamespot was the first gaming web site I went to going way back. I just typed “pc games” in google and its the first hit.
…who thinks that the game described here in the forums, mostly by haters or QQing people, is completely different from the one I enjoy playing? I mean yes there are some aspects, like the effort needed to craft a legendary weapon, which most people(me for example)really don’t like. It seems like people bring their rage here and write wall posts about “omg the game itz baad I don t like fractal the game iz ruined events suck” just to do something about their frustration. I mean is the game really that bad as described in forums? Coming here without trying the game makes it seem like the worst MMORPG ever in every aspect. I have a thief, 100% fun. Every single time I play. Im having a lot of fun with wintersday events and jumping puzzle and I LOVED Halloween and clocktower. So what’s all this whole rage about? Childish people only? Really? Dunno maybe I’m lucky with GW2 or I don’t take it seriously as some of you do. The game isn’t perfect ok, but I can’t really identify it with the one described in these forums. Just wanted to share these feelings.
Whats with the rage? same reason with yours. You dont like something you complain. Like you. Get it? welcome to the club.
Dont stop at quitting guild wars and mmo’s, but life too! Its just a game as well, and we wont see the real reality unless we quit. Go.
if you cut down trees all the time, eventually there won’t be any left. There’s no god-given law saying that drop rates have to be constant or high or even fair.
A specious analogy.
A proper one would be a christmas tree farm.
You grow trees, cut them down periodically, and sell them, and by doing that you make a decent living.
Then someone (ANet) comes along and routinely torches your forest while it’s still growing.
Are you going to continue farming christmas trees(playing the game)?
ANet is not “someone” – ANet is the creator of the game. They are the god of Tyria, the artificial reality, the laws of physics, whatever you want to call it.
If they want to decide that farming too long in one location causes drop rates to go down, it’s their prerogative , just like if they decide that you should fall at a certain speed or be able to jump at a certain height.
You don’t grow christmas trees – they are designed to grow by ANet. You don’t “make a living” in GW2, decent or otherwise – you receive a reward by navigating game mechanics. Game mechanics designed by ANet. They’re not torching YOUR christmas trees. They’re making design decisions about THEIR game. Your analogy is delusional.
Like I said, feel free to complain about game mechanics.
But it’s just your opinon – it’s stupid to claim some sort of moral justification. “I’m just trying to make a living here, and evil, evil ANet is coming along and forcing me to suffer in poverty! Woe is me!”Personally, my preferred loot system is one with physical constraints and limits. There are X million tons of gold in the ground, and if everyone dug it all up, it’ll all be gone. You’ll have to steal it from other players once there’s no gold left to mine, etc.
I’ll cheerfully complain about the current loot system in support of my preferred loot system, but I’m mature enough to realise it’s just my opinion. It’s not life-and-death, its not good-and-evil.
Please dont mention anet in the same sentance as our creator. Our creator made the perfect game, its balanced perfectly, dont believe me, check the atom, its balanced otherwise we wouldnt exist, and he left it ALONE after he made it, he doesnt change the rules as the game goes on. That is the hallmark of a great game and creator. But in the end we’re all players in someones game, someones crude version of a higher reality we cant see, unless we decide to quit/unsubscribe/suicide the game we are playing. Go.
Ya, theres people going to be making more money than you, better than you, l2p. Be the best you can be and that should make you happy.
But the money part isnt even in the definition so it doesnt matter if its sold for cakittens gambling and it illegal.
It is not gambling and it’s not illegal, no matter how many times you scream it from the mountaintops. And if you knew anything about the laws behind internet/online gambling, you’d see that the money part is a huge part of the definition.
Is it moral/ethical? That’s for each person to decide. But no matter how vehement you get, no matter how many personal attacks you sling at someone, no matter how badly you want each and every item pulled from the chests and handed out to everyone along with the Devs collective apology, it’s still not going to be gambling, it’s still not going to be illegal, and it’s still going to be a huge source of revenue in the support of a game that we (I assume) love and want success for.
Its gambling, its illegal, and anets going down!! Bye bye guild wars 2!!
The mechanic in game would not meet the legal definition of gambling, as defined below, because the items in the gift boxes have no value. They cannot be redemmed for real money. The fact people will spend real money, and alot of it, on the chance they will get something of personal value to themselves only is a matter of personal choice.
“A person engages in gambling if he stakes or risks something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance or a future contingent event not under his control or influence, upon an agreement or understanding that he or someone else will receive something of value in the event of a certain outcome.” Per USLegal.com
Many laugh at the thought that people spend real money for, actually, nothing. The truth is that is exactly what many people do, spend real money, and in large amounts that have a measureable impact on the bottom line of this game. Those purchases make the game possible.
We all know however, the items that “have no value” in a legal sense have very real value in the game. That very real value is a very strong motivation to spend real money, lots, and often too much. The game is very efffective that way in marketing items we have a wish to have. Good job anet. That polish is why we enjoy the game, the quality of the art etc.
Yet, gambling need not be in the mix. To ignore the power of the game over some players is just pretending ignorance. Anet could exercise some social reponsibility here if they chose to.
I got no problem with gambling, but your arguments s weak. Put your pro gambling bias aside and just admit this is gambling. Under the legal definition it is. Saying digital stuff has no value is wrong. It does have value, the fact it is in demand makes it valuable and can and will be exchanged for real money. But the money part isnt even in the definition so it doesnt matter if its sold for cash. Its no different than a diamond. Its useless piece of rock, but its rare therefore valuable in peoples eyes. It looks nice, doesnt do anything, like the skins you can buy here, or the things you can spend money to gambling on here for. Its gambling and it illegal. Spend your energy making gambling legal if thats what you believe instead of insulting my intelligence with your weak arguments.
