My biggest concern is that Hammer, as a purely melee option, must be stronger than sustained grenade attacks. Grenades are currently ranged and the strongest attacking option with huge sustained damage output, so much so that if Hammer is not the single best attacking option it will not see use in PvE at all. This is absolutely crucial, and has been echoed by countless players, so if you don’t see it in my post here you will absolutely see it again in my next Fractal/Dungeon report.

The bomb kit has the highest sustained damage output, actually.

The only reason grenades are still so universally loved is because of its vulnerability stacking ability. But with raids now capping out groups at 10 players, you won’t really need a dedicated vuln stacker anymore.

I also don’t think the concern should be how the hammer compares to the grenade kit but how the hammer compares to the rifle, pistol, and shield. It competes with other weapons for its slot, not kits; regardless, DPS shouldn’t be the only point of comparison, and there should still be reasons to run pistol/shield, pistol/pistol, or rifle over the hammer.

I imagine their aim is to have the hammer be stronger than a pistol/shield but weaker than a pistol/pistol or rifle.

That makes no sense. Hammer, a melee weapon weaker than rifle, a ranged weapon? You mean just like how other ranged weapons in the game are better than melee weapons for other classes? Oh wait, they aren’t.

You mean like how d/d ele does more damage than staff ele?
The grenade auto is very strong. If you want the hammer auto to be better than grenades, I’m sure we can get them to nerf the grenade kit.

For reference, the following other (non-condi) melee AAs are also worse than grenade kit:
Guardian Mace
Warrior Mace
Warrior GS
Ranger GS

You’re all over the place. We already know hammer’s rotations are powerful than rifle’s rotations. No one is going to stay in Hammer forever. They will need to perform rotations with other kits. We’re talking about the AA here for hammer being better than rifle and grenades.

Let me give you some reference as well :
- You’re comparing total DPS within rotations of D/D and Staff. I’m not talking about rotations. Hell even D/D in air out DPS’s Staff’s fire AA but that’s a moot point.
- It makes sense that Bomb’s AA has higher dps than grenade’s AA. It already does.
- Why are you comparing other class’s weapons AA to an Engi’s kit? We’re talking about the DPS of Engi’s AA skills and how we want more for hammer since it’s melee vs grenade/rifle.

Yes, Ele’s staff does better DPS than D/D. Yes, Guard’s scepter #2 does good DPS when aimed at a building or enemy with large hit box. You haven’t addressed anything about their AA though.

It is the norm for, well, anyone to assume melee weapons in nature do more damage. Ironically some do less in rotations like above. But Anet has said melee weapons have more risk so they get more damage.

People have shown desire for them to stay in Hammer while of course we do our normal rotations with grenade/elixir rifle/FT. Current meta is staying in grenade between rotations. We want to stay in Hammer, with better DPS. It’s not exactly rocket science.

I would just like to say that with the engineer it is, in fact, rocket science. We have so many rockets.

There’s action. In TC we had several guilds leave after the reset and join SOS and FA, including a few commanders. The fights are really good on any side (but I have noticed that SOS and FA have been very hesitant to fight each other after the reset, idk what’s going on with that; I don’t think it’s a truce but they are definitely more interested in TC than each other ATM)

Does anybody know what happens when you have more than one engineer with absorption gyro up? Whose gyro takes damage? Can you just chain multiple engi absorption gyros for a long damage reduction?

I really liked it.
It needs tweaking but I thought they were cool. Idk about the absorption thing; it seems to me that making them absorb too much damage is going to make them OP in spvp.

Regardless I’m really looking forward to this.

lol come on, a “forger” has nothing to do with smithing, a forger is someone who makes false documents. There is literally only one definition. It has zero relations with anything even in the game. The proper term would be “Forgemaster” or “Forgesmith”

Rangers aren’t terribly bad. We do have far too many issues and broken promises though.

It needs to change, I’m not sure what the point of your post is TBH.

Some people already know just how powerful the class would be if the pet hit enemies while moving, I even think that would make our damage creeping over the level of being overpowered. .

This makes no sense at all and I feel like you didn’t properly state your point. You’re effectively mentioning that pets should not hit the target anyways. In that case why do we have pets as a major class mechanic at all if they don’t hit anything?

Rangers aren’t TOO bad, but they’ll never be anywhere near Mr. Peters most beloved warriors. It’s so painfully overt he favors that class that it gives me cancer just by being in reading range of the patch notes.

If you want a good class to play just trend with what he is playing. You’ll likely always be on top.

They have fixed tons of bugs… They have been dealing with huge amounts of bots… And when it comes to make changes/updates… They are dealing with data, quite complicated data I guess… and huge amounts of it. U try program anything of what they have done… I would probably have broblems programming a character to run properly… What they do takes time! And they do it well and wants to give us functioning updates… Not some junk causing even more bugs…

Mmm, yet they still find the time to buff warriors out of nowhere and completely break promises to the rangers by getting nothing done when they said they would.

It takes time but it also takes responsibility.

I love my ranger and continue to play it. I don’t have many problems. However I don’t understand Kurow’s point. When it did become alright for companies to overtly lie to you and then disappear without a whisper? Mr. Peters is new, that’s obvious. It’s still not an excuse. 75% of this forum whining would not have ever happened if he didn’t say “next patch.”

Sure this isn’t the last patch. It’ll be a long while before rangers are fixed. Developers shouldn’t be feeding their players like pigs before the slaughter with false information though.

I also fail to see some points made by Mr. Peters himself.

Uh, okay. Fix it then? I’m still spamming 1, but now it sucks even more because it’s nerfed.

Hi rangers. I was falling asleep and for whatever reason I had this idea. It’s late so I’m debating its value.

I see some people wanting to scrap pets and others wanting to keep them. Obviously it’s a core mechanic so the likelihood of it being removed is near impossible. Honestly I’m not in either camp. A pet less spec would be nice, but I also have another idea.

Since some of our signets are useless and it will be a long time until pets are fixed, why not change a signet to have an activate that starts the cool down on your f4 pet switch and drops your pet health to 0, providing one of the following up to the devs:

-A passive damage buff for the duration of the pet switch cool down. Your pet stays down and you would need to switch it out to heal as normal.
-A single, high burst damage attack similar to Kill shot. Because of the pet cool down and/or signet cool down it would be on a timer much longer than it takes a warrior to accumulate adrenaline anyways since they can probably fire two in the time it takes to switch pets from CD.

This forces a ranger to decide what is better for the situation, having a pet or having a higher damage output without a fluffy companion + pet utilities. I think with all the trouble we have with pets in pvp right now this could alleviate at least a small portion, along with reduced AoE damage pets take. It doesn’t remove pets, just uses them for something else and places the damage they would have given us if working temporarily to the ranger directly. Could still use the lick wounds downed skill providing your pet isn’t just drooling on you with a sinister smile as he watches you die.

I don’t know. I think it’s a fair trade-off but I’m tired as balls and wanted to run it by my ranger pals. I know PETA would be all over this one for animal cruelty though.

if u just feel like killing time eles r fun…on a side note…had a member of my guild tell me to l2p when i said rangers are a horrid class -_-…apparently we can easily dish out 20k dmg or more in 16 seconds and our power builds r mad strong the ranger community just doesn’t know how to manage pets…idk if you all feel the same but idiots like this are the reason we will never be fixed…too many fan boys telling us the game is balanced and we “just don’t understand how gw2 works”…I take it back…keep ur ranger and organize a ranger army in wvw for all servers and laugh when we get mowed to prove a point.

Pretty sure a ranger army would mow over everything with Barrage spam. Just a useless side note.

Everyone was too busy working themselves up and convincing themselves that what they wanted to happen was going to be true. He didn’t have to come and post a “Update soon rangers!” message. He didn’t even need to come and talk afterwards to try and explain himself to a bunch of children crying that they didn’t get what they wanted; something never specifically mentioned or even really hinted at. Now you’re howling and raging, accusing him of lying despite doing largely exactly what he said he would when he came in and gave us the good news. Something I suspect he’s not going to bother with next time to avoid foolish people convincing themselves things that are at best unlikely to happen will; then complain loudly and shrilly when it doesn’t.

Poof! Someone called and I am here. We made some ranger changes this patch, but had to go back on them because of risk factor. There are some bugs being fixed and quality of life improvements coming in the next patch, as well as some other significant ranger improvements.

While we work hard to keep updates going on all professions, not very build us going to contain fixes for everyone due to the nature of software development. One problem with rangers is the lack of build diversity created by a number of sub par utility skills. Many signets, a shout or two, and spirits are all a bit lackluster. That is the first place to expect improvements. Second is trying to improve the feel/ pacing on some weapons.

The bolded parts are the blatent lie. I’m not saying nobody had immature expectations of this patch. I expected literally nothing. In honesty I love my Ranger and will play regardless of patches. I just hate being lied to.

Really every class lost on this patch save for warriors, who came out slightly on the positive end with an oddly placed buff. I just find it weird that Mr. Peters mains the class that has never received a nerf.
Oh, and, uh:

I’m not saying this is the BESTEST PATCH EVAR for rangers.

It actually is so far, which is the problem because it sucks.

TL;DR: Generic Ranger post. Mr. Peters straight up lied in both his posts yo, ranger community is overreacting.

I do in fact have suspicions that Mr. Peters is a novice in public relations and balancing in that he buffs the class he plays (warrior) for obvious favor reasons.

He has not shown any evidence to the contrary, and he has lied at this point. Even if he meant it with well intentions when he first mentioned the post for rangers it has escalated to this point without so much as a whisper from him. This disaster could have been mostly avoided if he only put up a one sentence post with explanations.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure he’s a nice guy. Seems cool enough. I would prefer not to judge but based on what he’s shown so far it’s not looking that great. AN also probably forces him to post things anyways just to say “we keep contact with our players.” In this instance he’s the target of all the anger Rangers have and he probably doesn’t want to even post. I doubt he would even want to log onto the game at this point and listen to this storm.

It’s just that if he was experienced he should know never to promise things he can’t deliver (at least not give a concrete time). The team should also not be spending time on incredibly stupid changes to classes, which is what these were. Incredibly stupid changes, which to me screams incompetence and focus on your precious favorite class that you play. You could not deliver a single major update that you yourself have said we needed, even though you also said we are a class that needs serious help. Warriors do not need serious help. This logically tells us you’ve not been working on them because we have not heard of anything from you about progress. It has been months and there is nothing to show for it except what appears to be hastily scrambled fixes near deadline to appear like you’ve done something. Mr. Peters, you’re not fooling anyone right now. These changes were not justified as what you claimed.

Also, Rangers, stop saying the word nerf. You sound dumb. We’re the same as we were before the patch plus a little stronger, only in terrible areas. It’s likely we received the underwater update because a lot of this upcoming event is underwater where we need a spear gun and an eye-patch. Also, I’d hate to be this guy, but it’s just a game and Mr. Peters is just doing his job. It’s not worth turning someone into a forum pariah. It’ll be fixed eventually, or the company will crash and burn.

If anything, you should probably thank the team that designed this event because they kicked the balancing team into a mad scramble to, god forbid, actually do their job and make things better for us in a certain area.

Besides the obvious need of doing something about pets I’d like something nice that makes rangers stand out, like a hawk-eye talent or something. Maybe be able to send and control a raven over a particular map and be able to see things like enemy troop movements.

Also maybe 1 skill on the raven, called “Bird Droppings” which only targets warriors and guardians with freshly polished armor.

I’m hoping for:

Suicide Pet Bombs:
You can now stuff your pet with explosives and detonate them near enemies to cause copious amounts of damage. Also adds an AoE called “Entrail splatter” which blinds all enemies for 15 seconds while they look for rags to wipe off their faces.

Or, alternatively a new skill for bears:

Bear Cavalry:
You hop on your bear with a rusty sword and charge recklessly to your demise while shouting obscene things.

The Lone Ranger

Comparing a cloneless mesmer to a petless ranger is moot. Mesmers can summon clones just by farting. A ranger with a dead pet loses half his dps and is for all intents and purposes taken into the back room by other classes with iron rods in their hands. The pets on my Ranger die just as quick (and sometimes quicker) as my Phantasms.

I’m in favor of the Lone Ranger. Let’s not forget how selfish it is though. This won’t solve any problems. All it does is penalize the people who DO want to play with pets because it dances around a more severe issue without actually solving it.

It would be nice, as someone mentioned earlier, to have a passive bonus trait when pets are stowed and to have perma-stow. It brings a welcome change of versatility (though serious reworkings would still need to be made to keep petless and pet rangers on par). Additionally this will bring QQ to our Ranger forums the likes of which we haven’t seen yet because of human nature (OMGWTF I loved pets why am I forced to use a petless build for wvw?!?!?!?!). Perhaps also if Rangers could use rifles and a new skillset was added for it then it could also help.

Mmm, also I don’t want to play warrior. It’s as simple as that. I don’t envision my character as a slow shooting, armored leviathan. I like agility, speed and cunning, but hate thief gameplay. I also like longbows. Also also, I like this game so I don’t want to find another one.

I dunno. I love my Ranger though. I’m just worried about my lovable, moronic, suicidal and possibly contemplatively murderous bear next to me.

Clearly forum moderators are a myth.

All I can say is that after twelve years spent administrating, running and moderating a large variety of forums, the number of repeat topics and unsubtle inflammatory posts that have flown under the radar and gone unchecked, unmerged or unquestioned is kind of startling.

ANet might want to hire some mods or something.

Was talking more of people controlling themselves what they put in posts to be less inflammatory. It’s absurd, I know. It would be nice though

Just curious: How would A-Net know that it should/shouldn’t be changed if no one complained/raved about it?

Criticism can be achieved without resorting to “nerf this because I can’t do it,” and “I did it 10 times because I could you suck don’t change it Anet.”

Anyways, the hardest part of the event though are easily the fat norns and charrs that make it impossible to see. Without norns/charrs I can complete the event fairly quickly. Add just two of those and I’ll never make it 90% of the time past the first few jumps.
