My biggest gripe about the FemNorn voice is how manly it sounds at times.
Is there a way to have it for the game and when accessing account information, but not just the forums?

Same as the above users. My account is configured to use the authenticator though I am no longer being prompted for it. I am only able to check via the forums as I’m at work.
I have characters of both sexes.
Glad to hear you got it resolved Lankybrit Always makes things easier.
The hardest two I’ve had thus far when just before joining the Vigil when I discovered the “secret weapon”. 5-6 normals, and a vet that spawns adds. Ugh. Thankfully I have that NPC to /squish… well I had an NPC. Respawn charge. Respawn charge.
The second one was actually taking on the “secret weapon”. Infinite adds. Eventually I just got tired of the respawn charge and ran though to beat up the weapon which kills all enemies anyway. Even the Engie enemy and his turrets.
Most of the missions are tuned to be difficult, but I don’t get downed if I’m aware. Some seem to need … I dunno, they’re overtuned it seems.
All the hearts have a NPC that explains why you are doing them.
His point about the hearts is that the UI tells you what to do and you never need to talk to the NPC’s. Ever. /shrug It’s just an immersion point with him.
EDIT: Good to hear about the novels. I might have to nab them at some point.
(edited by bpphantom.8243)
Ah thanks. I’ve read a few of the bits in Divinity’s Reach but haven’t found any multi-page “books” as of yet. I might have to hit up the wiki to find them.
I also saw that there are a few novels. The reviews are so-so, but I expect that from video game novels. How are they overall though, and is there a chronological order to them?
It might just be that I’m woefully behind in my personal story, but I’m now beating up Branded “X” and I wonder “Where the heck did these come from?”.
In GW1 story advancement was gated behind the missions. So you found out where the Afflicted were coming from, or what Varesh was up to, etc all in portioned out bits. The open world concept of GW2 means that I could be 80, all decked out in legendaries and have yet to do any of my personal story aside from the tutorial zone.
A friend of mine said that he’d never thought an open world concept could be so immersion breaking.
“Why am I beating up these guys, taking their helmets and pushing these buttons? I don’t know but the little heart on the side of my display says to. I never talked to anyone about why these are bad people, or why their helmets are so desperately needed, but the heart says kill them and take the helmets so off I go.”
I kind of see his point. I like the scouts. They are great! I just don’t NEED to talk to them unless I’m completing an area and can’t find all the hearts.
ANYWAY, back on my own topic… Is the lore all contained in the personal story?
Mad King. Headless Horseman is just… meh.
I spent $20 and that included a few other bits. I think I bought 3 lots of 5 keys. Maybe the price on them will go back up at some point and I can unload my 50+ chests. I inwardly groan every time I get one as a random drop.
I also loved the system used in GW1, though as I recall the ability to infinitely replicate the bits came later. I sincerely hope that this is implemented in GW2. Really. I’ll pay 500 gems to unlock this feature for my account. I just don’t want to store ALL of these costumes.
Being able to wear my “cosmetic” or “social” outfits anywhere but in PvP would also be a huge boon for me. I focus on the looks of my characters so much. Transmutations are excellent for this, but it just means I get to 80 before I set my appearance and then hope I don’t find something even better.
I’d need to log in to verify but the previous costs for entire costume sets was $10USD. I’m not certain but I think that 500 gems cost $10, but the costume sets (at least the Halloween ones) cost 700 gems. That doesn’t bother me too much, inflation and all, but it’s no longer as neat and clean as it was.
Nice one! b^^d
I tried about 6 or 7 times, realized that I would likely make it eventually but that it was not worth the frustration on my part. I did like it though. Very nice. Very challenging. Good job ANet.
For those complaining that the event was a grind… why did you grind? I tried the tower a couple of times, decided it wasn’t for me, went and did my Dailies. I hopped into the Labyrinth whenever a door offered it ad just enjoyed until I wanted to go back. The MK Dungeon I ran 8 or 9 times total just because it was fun and quick.
Also: Random number generator is random.
Taking in to account things like: getting the books are really hard when you’re under leveled say level 20-ish) unless other people are also in the area getting them, I still think the Event was a lot of fun. I got a single Mad King recipe (sold immediately).
It was fun to play Mad King Says again, and the Mad King’s Dungeon was a blast most of the time. I do wish I’d been around to get in on the gold item madness when the Labyrinth went live, but c’est la vie.
I stripped out a couple of sigils and sold one gold recipe on the market, otherwise it was all meh. shrug No complaints though, I don’t think there should be anything super-awesmazing in there. I did enjoy the dungeon the 6 or 7 times I ran it.
Every event other than the scavenger hunt scales you to 80
However, not every other event guarantees you a decent back slot item, which does not appear normally until the early 30’s with your personal story.
I didn’t even bother with the scavenger hunt on my alts simply because I knew I had to go to a 55-65 zone and my 2nd highest character is 30. Heck, my main is only 58 and I’ve been playing since launch.
Plain and simple feedback: If you’d simply offered the nice halloween skins as cash shop items “available for a limited time only during the Halloween event”, you’d have made a lot more revenue than with your current gambling ripoff scheme with the Black Lion chests.
I won’t pay a red cent for Black Lion Chest keys. Not before; not now; not ever. I’m not adverse to throwing money at Anet for a great game, but NEVER for a crappy gambling chance at some random stuff, most of which is worthless to me. The chests in general are a terrible idea and a terrible mechanic.
However, I have thrown lots of cash shop money at you for other things. Useful things. Nice things. Things I can use and that I want. Skins, bank/inventory upgrades, Fine transmute stones, etc. If you’d put up a permanent field banker or field BL rep or field merchant, I’d buy it in a hot minute. But only being a possible rare drop from a BL chest? Never. Never ever ever. Would I buy minis from the cash shop if they weren’t totally random chance packs? You betcha. Probably quite a few. But right now, I’ll never buy a mini pack, not ever.
Will I buy the Mad King or Witch skins before the event is over? You betcha. No problem. Here: take my money! Thank you for a great game!
But those kitten chests? Kitten that kitten kitten kitten ripoff kitten. ^.^
To put it another way: if you’d have put up those permanent Halloween-themed weapon/armor skins for $10 each on the Cash Shop, you’d probably have made $50 off me, no questions asked. Here: take my money please!
But with the current scheme for these skins? You get zero. You get my ill will. You get my bad mouthing your kitten greedy schemes when I talk about Anet and GW2 to other people.
I’m sure I’m not alone. Please learn from this mistake for next time around.
Oh, and your product managers might want to closely follow the debacle about Facebook’s recent greed move with their “sponsored posts to guarantee full reach to your audience” scheme. And the community’s reaction to that. Don’t be Facebook-smart and profit-stupid, please.
I would also quite happily buy skins from the store. My GW1 account has every cosmetic item that was ever offered. I would do the same with GW2 honestly.
Good to know. Thanks.
1. Will you or will you not be buying black lion trading company or random number generation materials again?
– Likely no, but spare gems here and there might go that way.
2. Did you buy them in the past?
– No.
3. If you would not buy trading post material/gamble, would you support direct to buy weapon skins and what general price do you find acceptable from a business standpoint both as a customer and realizing that they must make money as a business?
– I would absolutely buy skins from the store. I routinely bought the cosmetics from the GW1 store.
4. Do you believe that future events will also be handled with random number generation to make profit based on limited time item acquisition?
Example: Yes/No.
5. If you believe that the future events will be handled in the same manner, does this realization negatively effect your trust of Arena Net in regard to handling micro transactions for permanent content?
– I’m not sure. I think it might become a hybrid model of sorts where the cosmetic stuff is in the store or grindable, BUT the actual game affecting items are only grindable.
6. Did you obtain a skin or whatever it is you were looking to get from the black lion trading chests? From the Mad King Chests?
– I haven’t yet, but I’m still waiting to make my Mad King Chests once the event is winding down and I’ve seen what is fully available and how.
I’m quite pleased with the event. I’m not grinding out stuff for the ultra-rares or anything, I’m just having fun. Thanks
As always, top notch work dulfy. Thanks.
I knew there was a reason I had 50+ chests sitting in storage
Thanks for the update ANet. Very well done.
Glad to hear. My Ranger is my second most played character and might be my favourite.
I do most of this planning when I’m not in game. I look at cosmetics and add annotations to my spreadsheet of characters, etc.
<.<
Don’t give me that look. OCD is a perfectly normal way to live :p
Ah Dulfy… Long have I spent on that site for SWtOR. Can’t believe I didn’t see the GW2 link. Thanks!
Does anyone have a link to images of all the dungeon gear? One of the things I did in GW1 was find a look I liked for a character and make that a goal. Thanks in advance.
Best advice is up above. If it stops being fun, then stop I’ve taken pauses from crafting a few times. I can’t actually craft anything for my current main as she’s far ahead of my crafting. So I just make due with drops and rewards.
I spam it on my main because I’ve moved “auto” to “For Great Justice”.
Dang. That’s what I thought but I hoped I was wrong. Ah well. Thanks.
I do in fact.
I’ve tried searching if GW2 can’t be installed to a compressed folder because that’s the difference in the folder structure.
I’m running the GW2Setup.exe and during that process you can change the destination. I simply cannot chose the location I want as it’s not shown in the installers file explorer.
Note that I cannot see c:\Games\ at all
(edited by bpphantom.8243)
I’m cleaning up my laptop installs and part of that is removing all the games and re-installing them into a c:\games\<game> folder. Thus far I haven’t had an issue with anything I take mobile with me, except for GW2.
When I try to change the destination folder for GW2 it doesn’t even display the “games” folder. Is there a restriction preventing GW2 from installing to certain types of locations?
I’d like to see an actual LFG tool for both Explorable and Story Mode dungeons, complete with teleport to the dungeon and back to where you started from.
The Norn women are like asian women. They look great until they get around 60-70 and then the suddenly (BAM!) turn into shrunken old crones full of ancient wisdom. Fact.
:p
A token system similar to the GW1 system would be highly welcome. This from someone that hasn’t yet completed the personal story… mostly because I’m not guided to. I just wander around and level to 80.
In several of the DEs I generally nab for my daily completion the mobs can’t be affected for several seconds after spawning, though I have seen several where they can just be spawn melted.
I just found a screencap my friend took while doing that event with the mass of angry earth elementals.
Yes, I am trying to bump this a little, why do you ask?
I know exactly where he is and I agree that one is way too fast on the respawn when the DE isn’t running. When it is I don’t mind as much but during normal play I could simply park there and farm pretty easily.
The general respawn rate seems varied from area to area. Some I can run through a series of tunnels and be able to run back out after clearing it while others I seem to simply be a pocket of defeated enemies while surrounded on all sides.
Does the number of people in an area affect the entire areas respawn rate?
(edited by bpphantom.8243)
There are some low/mid and mid level zones that are relatively DE sparse. Or the DEs they do have don’t fire up often.
I find that I finish my Daily requirements in about an hour or less if I just port to the lower level areas. The starting zones have something like 5 IF they don’t chain.
@Zierk: I’m currently leveling my ranger and always have at least Flame Trap available just for when my Daily resets and I actively look for DE. Otherwise you’re absolutely right. No loot credit.
+1
Fully in support of this.
The 1st Norn area with buckets of Sons of Svanir is a great place to both get daily events done and farm jute and white armor to salvage for more jute.
I think my Engie will end up transmog’ing the Leather set and my ranger will do the same to Rascal.
I need to make a cook. Butter, Chocolate and Cinnamon storage is full.
No grind for me. I generally get a character to cap, or end-game, maybe do a little of it, then take an alt to cap. Repeat. I still need 3 character slots to do all of the Professions. I will get to 80 8 times. I might PvP(WvW) with some, I might not. I might build a Profession I’ve done before just to take a completely different spec… or be part of a static/theme team.
Grinders gonna grind.
All I’m seeing from most of the Dungeon threads is… don’t bother. Just get to 80 and if you want a gear grind you’ll find one there.
(edited by bpphantom.8243)
Totally want this. I also have a dozen or so yellow crafting mats that don’t go in storage it seems.
I’ve switched to a water/+heal spec and gear for my Ele. I was hoping to recreate my air/fire ele from GW1, but solo I’m just too dang squishy. When I buddy up or in most DE’s I swap to fire, but I can’t swap all my gear too.
Definitely not OP. However, we are smokin’ hot.
