I’m currently in a small PVE guild that I founded with just a handful of friends, however I’ve now taken my 1st toon to 80 and I’m curious in branching out in to dungeons and FotM without relying on PUGs.
This “main” is a 0/25/25/10/10 bleed spec sword/axe warrior. Currently her weapons are both exotic and I’m hoping to get in on some temple zerging to buy exotic armors.
Yada yada it’s not an alleged power build but it works for me (usually) and I like it. I’m only interested in PVE at this point anyway, and at best I might do some WvWvW. SPvP is not for me.
I’ve never run a dungeon, only read the angry and negative posts (and formed some of my own based on the general game mechanics).
With guesting presumably working the guild could be anywhere, but I’m on Northern Shiverpeaks and play evenings EST. I’ll happily use Ventrilo or Mumble. I’m middle aged and come from a Vent server where Rule #1 is “Don’t get offended”. That said, I’m okay with pretty much any environment.
Anyway. Maybe I’ll hear from you, maybe I won’t. /shrug
As Cassie said, I’ve used my crafted weapons and armor (two different characters for me) to equip my alts, and double check every 5-ish levels if I can make something better than what I’ve found.
If I were going to get my weapons of choice in Legendary instead of just Exotic I’d be going for Bolt and Frostfang. I have… uhm… nothing towards them at this point.
Question though. When crafting the gifts and such is there a way to get preferred stats? Just curious, as Power/Toughness/Vitality is fine, but I’d prefer to mix it up a bit.
Depending on your spec and class, several of them up to the final arc (Trehane’s a Super Star :p ) can be quite challenging. If you have NPC assistance it’s usually just one, and they suck it and die pretty quick in most cases. Once you reach the final arc with The Pact, you usually (admitting that I’m just about to take the ruins on the border of Orr), have 3 or more NPC’s to help.
There have been a few PSM’s that just wrecked me due to the stacking or reapplying of CC/conditions from multiple sources (I’m looking at you Dredge).
I’m on Northern Shiverpeaks and though I’m still in the 60’s for my PS I am 80 and willing to help anyone out.
I think GW2 most reminds me of Kingdoms of Alumar gameplay wise. That’s not a compliment.
While in GW1 I was always looking for Bosses cuz they have some nice loots (unique “green” weapons), here I tend to always skip them in the open world. Why should I waste X minutes to kill a champ here if I get an amazing NOTHING in return?
but hey…anet says everything is working as intended…this is just an x-files case…
Plus bosses gave that +2% and has capturable skills.
Dungeon is just one of many reasons I’ve completely ignored my personal stories on 7 characters. I’ve never had a shot at the monthly, evne the old one. I just do what I feel like doing. If the Veteran Slayer comes up in the daily and I just don’t feel like it, I Alt+F4 and go play something else. /shrug
The problem is you’re going out of your way to try and “solve” the daily, instead of just playing the game like you normally do.
No. All I ever do anymore is log in, do my daily, log out and go play something else.
in that case why even bother? if it’s not fun just stop doing it.
If the new daily requires me to go anywhere I do just skip it. Otherwise I do it quick and level. The game isn’t really fun for me anymore anyway, I’m still willing to throw half an hour at it.

That is the point of Legendary. Same stats but allegedly a “cooler” look. That at least matches their design manifesto and is a good thing. Exotic being top tier of gear, with several ways to get them. Legendary taking a fair investiture of time and effort to get, but only being a cosmetic upgrade.
I like it that way.
I choose to walk most places simply because I will get stuff and XP on the way which equates to cash. Since I’ll never do a dungeon/fotm, and actually don’t do much more than dailies anymore to level, travel is a good source of income.
My biggest reason for rolling as human now is the running animations. Charr look awesome and their lore is great and they lope… and it looks like I’m running through molasses…
Edit: Yeah, yeah I know all about the run speed balancing thing. It’s still ugly.
Good to know, thanks. Now if only there was a toggle to turn off the scrolling…
Gear boxes for the 78-80 Rares or Exotics. At 5/box it’s cheap, and I hate the dungeons.
Warrior box will have heavy armors. Ele will have light, etc. They say that they contain Rare or Exotic.
It’s displaying the daileys based on your system time, but the server actually hands out credit for completing them. So you need to your system time to the correct time. (It’s probably set for the wrong date.)
Terrible. Just… just wow.
What’s the first thing you’re going to do?
Start development on Guild Wars 2.
Level 4 Graal archer. Done. Just aggro and don’t attack until you have the daily bit done.
That’s something I want in GW2. the ability to draw on the minimap and everyone in my team sees it. To draw attack patterns, where to go to find stuff, boobs, whatever. Oh, and the minimap to NOT scroll when I click on it. Ever.
I farm the doging vs a single Grall archer so I can then ignore it.
I hang around the dumb NPC’s to revive them when they die to the mobs.
I skip days where it requires combo-field kills or other things that will just be annoying to get.
Honestly all I do with GW2 is hop in, do my daily, quit, go play something else. I’m just leveling every class to their Elite skill then I’ll go back and daily to 80 with a “main” or something.
I’ve lost daily progress due to these errors, and I’m in Wayfarer Foothills. I might try tomorrow night before the reset. Likely just give up for a few days until ANet figures out how to test their builds.
Oh, how I hated Factions when it was released. Now I count it as my favorite of the original campaigns.
I still loathe it. Loved Nightfall and loved Prophecies. Eye of the North was hit and miss but overall I liked it.
Anyway, I’m still waiting for them to release the Guild Wars 2 they’ve been hyping. You know, GW1 with updated graphics and advancing the story.
:p
The Dirty Dozen:
1) Would you prefer ascended gear to be the last tier implemented for the remainder of GW2?
2) Would you prefer ascended gear to be equal to exotic gear in all statistics except agony resistance?
3) Would you prefer the level cap to remain at 80 for the remainder of GW2?
4) Would you prefer if WvW was set up on an equal playing field similar to PvP?
5) Would you prefer if WvW / PvP / PvE had separate skill functionalities?
6) Would you prefer if Magic Find was removed from the game completely?
7) Would you prefer if Magic Find was divided equally amongst all party members?
8) Is GW2 too ‘Grindy?’
9) Does GW2 need less RNG?
10) Has the Trading Post [and all its users/farmers] positively impacted the economy?
11) Do you have as much faith [and/or enthusiasm] about the game [and/or company] as you did before launch?
12) Do you reasonably expect [many of] your primary concerns to be addressed in early 2013?
1) Yes
2) Yes
3) Yes
4) No comment
5) Yes
6) Yes
7) See 6
8) Yes
9) Nah
10) No
11) No
12) No
It’s sad because monks in GW1 were like an icon class then they just remove them along with any type of real healing in the game? WTH?
Bad Mhenlo. Bad. No game for you.
One thing I’d love is either Dual or Multi-spec.
I enjoy playing my Ele as a support, +regen, heal, etc in DE’s and groups. That spec (traits and gear) sucks when soloing.
The customization of your class, content gated behind the story mission, Heroes and Henchmen (and all the customization and options that came with)… I miss so much from GW1. I still play.
GW2 is but a shadow of its predecessor sadly.
I can hit cap without ever leaving the racial starting zone(s). That’s a flaw.
I don’t disagree that GW2 might well be around for many years to come. I won’t be playing it that much though. I’m just… meh. There’s a thing as too non-linear and I find that GW2 suffers from it.
/shrug At least I’m not paying a sub right.
Even if you miss one of the days, once Tixx gets to LA you’ll be able to replay any events for any city he visited.
I love this. I’ll be enjoying my last day in the sun with by best friend and not even an event like this could drag me away from her.
Thanks for paying attention to the feedback ANet. I’ve been hard on you recently, but only because I know you can do better. Keep working on it, and keep raising the bar for yourselves.
I think they are trying to be more considerate of their player’s schedules vs. be here at a specific time or miss out. One-time events are awesome when you can make it, but they really suck when you can’t.
My question then is what was wrong with the 2-3 week events with the 36 hour “finale” from GW1? I enjoyed doing the repeatable missions for the gift boxes and the hats are always great (if only we had a cosmetic slot or wardrobe selection).
Why would anyone design a game where 80% can be completed solo but, not the last 20%?
Because it’s an MMO is not an excuse!
it kind of is. Ever watched anime Sword Art online? The main dude talks about the minuses of soloing everything a lot.
Secondly, do you know a single MMO which you CAN solo 100%?
I can solo my/the story and hit cap just doing soloable missions in Rift, WoW, SWtOR, GW1, CO, DCUO, LotRO, and previously in SWG, CoX. So every other largely successful MMO in that last 10 years that was intended for a Western audience.
Just sayin’.
This game is the most grindy and farmy game I have ever played.
Go play Aion, or any Eastern style MMO. Grindy grindy grindy.
Unfortunately I think ANet had to knuckle under to the publisher(s). It’s a trend, and a bad one.
Would I recommend GW2 to a friend. No. It’s too sandboxy while not being a sandbox, and too theme parky while not being a theme park. It’s a strange thing that doesn’t seem to know what it wants to be. The result being that it’s not very good at being either.
As for ANet, they don’t really factor in to my not recommending GW2. Every developer has issues, and every game has bugs. It’s the nature of the beast.
1. No monthly fee. They kept it. Nice.
2. Cosmetic appearance that I can have from level 1-cap if I so desire. Nope. Either need to constantly transmute stuff or just get to BiS gear THEN transmute it until the next tier of gear comes along.
3. Instanced zones. Sadly no. I see both sides of the coin on this one, but I really liked the zone instancing in GW1 and the things it added, like vanquishing.
4. Story missions gating zones. Dang. I think I’d care at least a little about my “personal story” if I couldn’t get to cap and grind out BiS gear while completely ignoring the story.
5. Skill and Build variety. As others have said, this was fun. “Whoop, big bad special boss. Swap out for a skill or two that are perfectly suited to this fight. Go!” We had 55’s, the SABway necro trio, and the builds completely reliant on a specific elite.
6. Hero’s and Henchies. Oh man do I miss them. Without the instanced zones the theory is that you have real people instead. Meh to that.
Overall I’m still in the “It’s okay” phase with GW2, but it’s down at the bottom of the list. The things I loved most about GW1 just aren’t in GW2.
Hi All,
Thanks for your feedback we really appreciate it. I would like to take the opportunity to answer your questions in an AMA on Reddit on Monday 26th (12pm PST- More details to follow) to talk about recent updates to the game and our philosophy for Guild Wars 2 moving forward.
Please keep in mind that there we are about to begin the Thanksgiving holiday in the US and are out of the office (and likely in game) until Monday. Happy Holidays everyone!
Chris
Hopefully this is weighted with the proper respect that the lack thereof caused the original to be deleted.
With all due respect, but this format is only really good for people who are anonymous. Such as IAMA doctor AMA and in a general discussion forum about medicine. Doctoring, engineering, etc, rarely has enough fans. It is all about imparting information, not public relation spin.
Holding an AMA in the GW2 subreddit will just increase the noise to signal ratio as the hive-mind asks irrelevant questions that have little do with the reasons you have to do the AMA. To smooth over all the issues the November 15th update caused.
The softest ball that passes over that particular plate will be struck, and the hive-mind will consider it a home run and call it caring. This a PR move. And any dissent will be down-voted by the hive-mind mentality that happens on /r/guildwars2, no matter how relevant and poignant the points made.
This is why reddit is a stain on humanity. Useless.
Hop on a live stream and answer both live questions and pre-submitted questions. Don’t dodge. If you don’t know and answer, say so. If you do know an answer but aren’t allowed to tell us, say so. “I’m not allowed to answer that” is a perfectly acceptable answer. Do not use a reddit AMA.
The lack of a PTS shows. The lack of the GW1 devs shows. The presence of NCSoft (loathsome pile of “stuff” that they are), shows.
Add the first two items and remove the 3rd. There we go, fixed.
I should have spent the 2-3 hours mashing my testicles with a spiked mallet. It would have been a better use of my time. Off to other games (and developers) until ANet gets their kitten together.
It was kitten. Period. ANet apparently forgot how to do good events. I wonder if the Dev’s from GW1 went somewhere and made a good game?
I died outside the cave and got left behind by the mindless zerg. By the time I even managed to make my way back through the now respawned map, chest had despawned. Yay. Just stop trying ANet, you’re BAD at this.
Not worth it. Waste of a day. Waste of ANet coders’ time to have done this.
Gratz to those that get stuff. Event is terrible. Enjoy.
I’d just like the option to hide it because there’s absolutely no reason to do it. Nothing gated behind it. No bonuses for doing it. Rapidly out-level it but still get pushed down if you bother with it.
Some people enjoy it, great.
Nonsense… You do realize that there already is something in this game to make you stand out? You might of heard about these so called legendaries ? I think that far outclasses your petty CoE armor. And it takes far more effort then anything in the game at the moment.
If you want to stand out easily, buy gold and get T3 armor or something, if the kitten is the sole reason to play this game.
Edit: by kitten i mean that virtual thing some people need to stroke from time to time to feel superior to others
There is no “legendary” armor.
That’s not the point, maybe the Ascended armor will be considered legendary, who knows? The point is that the OP is revolted that something in this game is more rare/valuable/harder to get/better looking then some armor he farmed for. Should Anet stop providing new content because he farmed for something and therefore nothing should be superior? If this is not entitlement i don’t know what is…
No, but perhaps cosmetic slots would resolve the OP’s issue. It works quite well in GW1, LotRO, Rift, etc.
Ah ha ha ha ha! No.
I have December off instead and work isn’t the only thing happening on Friday. I’m going out after work, then working late again, then out on Saturday, then working Saturday night, then home on Sunday. Glorious, glorious, lazy Sunday.
Likely, note that word, the only advantage to taking a lowbie into the LS content will be the zerg of folks in there doing stuff. Take advantage of it if you can for some free, mindless leveling.
As long as nothing is provided that has stats and is not obtainable after the event, I don’t mind missing it due to work and friends. If something is only available via those events then I have an issue. Thankfully I’ve got no plans on Sunday, but Friday and Saturday are already booked and have been for weeks.
/shrug
Solid so far. I have two-factor auth for all my online games now. Thanks ANet.
The hardest time I’ve had levelling (via combat rather than dailies), was on my Staff Ele. I was only staying with Fire rather than swapping around. Even then I only had issues if the enemies were all ranged and just stood there shooting the sherbet out of me, or a bunch all swarmed me.
More and more I wish I could transmute the appearance from ANY class (L/M/H) armor. I’d love to use some of the light stuff on my Warrior, some of the medium on my Ele, etc. Bah.
