I use a Glamour Build. I’m not 80 yet (50 actually) but this has been great for everything I’ve wanted to do so far. I swap Focus and Torch depending on what’s going on.
I think this is an ability in dire need of better animation feedback.
I don’t know how those of you who are good with this class keep track of cool downs on 4 different sets of 5 abilities, along with what they do, how to use them, when they can be used, and what to do if they can’t. It’s juggling with different shaped and weighted objects all falling at different speeds. And that’s just keeping track of what you’re doing. Never mind also trying to track what other players or mobs or both are doing. Boggles the mind.
Wow that was fun to watch. Nice work. I’m at work so I had to try to avoid yelling out DOH every time they interrupted your stomps.
I’ll admit straight up: Ele is too hard for me to play. Instead of swapping 2 weapons, you’re basically swapping 4 with abilities on different cooldowns + the cooldown between swapping. It’s like trying to play the game while juggling at the same time for me. I just can’t do it. So I’m definitely impressed with your work here.
Good point. I was thinking aesthetics and not WvW/sPvP tactics at the time.
Wow you guys have gone off the deep end. Comfortable with your own sexuality? Arguments defending your masculinity? And yet you give those of us who don’t care for the butterflies crap over it just being a video game. Err… okay.
Anyways, depending on how much I liked the game at the time and how much it was, I’d probably consider paying for alternate spell effects. That’s actually kind of a neat idea and would be an interesting addition to the gem shop.
Oh, and it was brought up earlier, but I don’t know if it was directed at my comments on the very dark nature of the class… but i’m not looking for black clothes and eyeliner or “Necro Lite” but you gotta admit… this is not a goody two shoes class. This is class that specializes in breaking people’s minds. That’s pretty evil. Once again, though, I’m not looking for black and dark effects. I’m just not at all fond of the butterflies but it ends there. I like the class for what it is and that’s why I play it.
You’re just not going to get me to agree that imagery typically targeted at 8 year old girls shopping at the mall is at all cool looking no matter how you try to spin it. And to try to make what we’re doing, shattering the minds of our opponents, at all noble is a stretch normally reserved for rubber bands and Plastic Man. The effects should be dark and reflect (so to speak) that.
It should be a shattered glass effect as opposed to butterflies. It’s ridiculous and ridiculous looking. /shrug I just try to ignore it because I don’t feel like playing anything else right now.
Speaking of imagery and aesthetics, I also think that the Moa spell should be removed and replaced with something else. To all of you old D&D players, what’s a polymorph spell doing on an illusionist? :P
I think making Keeps and Keep Lords tougher will only further separate the strong servers from the weaker ones. By the time you get half way through a gate or wall on what is recommended here, the stronger server’s zerg team has already shown up and you’re looking at the portal instead of the enemy force from within the keep of their’s you just took.
How about no more trash loot just a little cash and badges automatically dropped in your inventory? Isn’t that how WAR did it? I can’t recall… I just remember their system, while not perfect by any means, was far more convenient and felt more rewarding. Although it’s been a few years now…
If the concern is WvW’ing crafters having salvage, that’s what mobs and nodes in the borderlands should be for.
Looks like you got your answer.
^pretty much that. I swap to scepter/torch and back when I’m dealing with multiple mobs, but the staff does everything I want for most fights.
I’m also baffled as to why people have issues in PvE with this class. I take on multiples above my level, even as high as +7 depending on the mob, without much issue. And that’s using what’s going to be a glamour build, but is far from ready for that being only level 37 as of this evening. Just gotta use those fields, blinds, illusions and dodges. And Chaos Storm is a defensive tool. Drop it on yourself AND the mob. Don’t use it as a standard AE unless you’re defending/attacking a keep in WvW and that’s just to get people to move and maybe get some confusing bolts from your allies.
I’d do the opposite and pull with the GS then switch to Staff and drop a Chaos Storm on yourself and the mob and proceed from there.
I made it to level 39 where I found out that the get might on swap rune on my brand new level 39 yellow rifle didn’t work for kits and distinctly heard a wa wa waaaaa sound somewhere off in the distance. Flamethrower, grenades, bombs, and mayhem are fun but they’re currently wrapped up in cumbersome mechanics and bugs. I won’t delete him though and hope to be back to him at a later, less buggy date. There’s just nothing like blowing up bad guys and burninating their remains. I do think he should have a cigar as his head piece though…
I don’t like the aesthetics of the GS at all. Awesome weapon, but I feel like my guy doesn’t know what to do with this brute weapon so he points at bad guys and shouts “LIGHTNING BOLT! LIGHTNING BOLT! LIGHTNING BOLT!” While effective, I feel embarrassed for him and give him back his staff and scepter with a pat on his head and an apology.
So with Torch being what it is (not that I abused it, I didn’t, just saying), should I switch my offhand on my glamour build from Scepter/Torch to something else? Maybe Scepter/Focus to get confusing bolts from the Warden on a Chaos Storm? Pull bad guys in, drop Warden, swap, drop Chaos Storm, etc? Something different?
I’m only 24, but I’m going with a confusion/glamour build because I tend to hop into WvW and back into PvE and want one that “works” for both. That build is also where I want to end up, so want plenty of practice, even or especially when it’s not ideal. Honestly, though, I haven’t had much trouble yet, even when I’m doing multiple +3 level mobs.
Ahhh… okay, so I was misunderstanding some of that too. After using it and seeing that it either dropped somewhere in the middle or on top of my target if had one and in range, I just figured the feedback only happened to those standing in the bubble. I can’t explain why I came to that conclusion, but that’s where I ended up.
I guess I can now use it as payback to someone sending their pets up on the wall if I’m defending or vice versa.
So… ctrl+T… supposed to put a marker over you targets head, yes? Does it only work in PvP or if you’re grouped? I was trying to use it last night on some mobs and it wasn’t popping up. I’m a big fan of marked targets from throughout my MMO career and most recently tanks but either this isn’t working or just not the way I’d expect.
This is what I was shooting for:

Staff/Scepter Torch AE confusion type build I grabbed from somewhere along the way. I’m not quite high enough to proclaim it’s awesomeness, but I have been having fun with it so far. Although it too has issues with chase downs. I swap out to focus off hand during keep sieges/defenses. I also change Portal to Decoy when I’m out solo heading somewhere.
Very open to feedback.
Face it, the naga razer is the only thing that makes this class bareable

I absolutely love my Naga and would never play an MMO without it. But it fits my hand, which some people have a problem with, and I’ve got no issues moving my thumb even all the way back to the 12th button.
I also tried using a couple of different types of gamepads, but I couldn’t find one more comfortable than the keyboard, plus it added more stuff to my limited flat space. I’m also a touch typist and use ESDF to move as opposed to WASD. So, I have qazxwtgbv that I also set to be different things. I used to also use h and y, but I had to start using a natural type keyboard because my wrist was bothering me.
Anyways… ya… love the Naga.
If you ignore toughness or vitality, might as well go power and critical damage. I tested this and the damage is good but I notice that I die fast.imho you need some buffer to your survivability (points on toughness or vitality) to be effective and functional.
I thought about that and am thinking this:

Although I’m not entirely crazy about the Cloaking Device.

Here’s my ridiculous version of The Mad Bomber that I’ve yet to play test but have been theorycrafting. The idea is being able to move fast, drop bombs, dodge as often as I want to drop even more bombs and throw grenades when I need range. Then use the rifle as a gap closer and control tool. All with insane glee. Probably won’t work but here it is anyways:

The one issue I had when I was out in the mists doing some testing last night is that the blast finisher from Big Ol’ Bomb wasn’t setting off the fields I dropped. I’m not entirely sure why.
Although looking again, maybe I’ll take advantage of the gadgets and forego the grenades:
