Oh, and engineer keeps getting brought up. I have to admit that the only kit I truly enjoy is the flamethrower. I keep wanting to make that work in an all around build. Something like this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcMQJAqel0pyaX3SfF17IxIFd+zgeU/6eXRKqcjB
But I’m not sure how effective it would be for this.
Anyone roam around with Yojack’s Warrior build?
For reference: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/Yojack-s-Min-Max-home-of-the-Yojack-Build-2012-for-GW2/first
Gav, look at the Speedy Kits trait in the tool line. Use it with med kit, which doesn’t have a cool down, and number 5 on the med kit, and you’re tooling along, so to speak. Just have to keep popping hte kit every now and then. Can also do the same, I believe with a full set of Superior Rune of the Centaur by using the med kit every 10 seconds.
Probably a couple of other ways involving Rune of Air and some others in combination with Engineer traits and abilities as well.
Oh, these last 2 posts give me something to do at work today. Thanks guys!
By the way, Osicat, I’m running Mesmer myself but was looking for something new, although I’m definitely going to check out what you got. Personally, I run GS main, S/F or /P offhand depending on my mood and a 20/20/0/0/30 build.
It’s just a board bug. If you manually change the url portion where it says page/2 to page/1 you’ll see everything again.
Nah. I’m on IoJ and it was one of our Thiefs complaining. But rock on, good sir. May your prybar always land squarely on your enemy’s face.
Just to let you know, some Thief on IoJ last night was complaining about getting owned by a TANKCAT build. I asked if they were Tiny Dunked! but that was a negative. Ah well, can’t have too much awesome at once, apparently.
Son of a… wish I knew that before I bought gloves and boots with WvW badges. Thanks for the info, though! That’ll help speed my gear switch up a bit.
I wouldn’t call it realm pride like I would back in my DAoC days. But there is a certain comfort level I’ve gotten to on IoJ, recognizing commanders by name, that sort of thing. More of a being comfortable surrounded by familiarity than a feeling of belonging I guess.
Oh…. that might be what I’m looking for, Thuull. I’ve been playing a Mesmer for a while now as a roamer and only occasional zerger and was looking for something new to do the same with. This might very well work and I already have a 41 Engineer.
Be hard to drop the Flamethrower/Rifle combo though. Man I love the control from that combo. Anyways….
Mesmer portals are the perfect way to break stalemates. I’d hate to see them go.
Fray Formana; best commander on BG!
Loses UPGRADED BG Garrison to get Hills. Loses hills minutes later. Didn’t even get Hills at a points tick.
I do believe I’m picking up on some sarcasm…

Ya, minus the “supply used” one, I like the idea.
I like to siege, but I also like to just get on, run around, take camps, kill yaks, run from groups/zergs (while chuckling at them chasing me), and 1vX. I currently play a Mesmer and it works well enough, although I’ve made myself entirely too squishy and can’t afford to change that right now. Well, I could, but badges drop at such a low rate… but I digress.
Anyways, I’m getting a little bored. I’m also very tired of Thiefs. Fights with them either end with them just running away as they please, stealthing whenever they want (Revealed debuff? HAH! Lies.), killing me in the time it takes me to blink, or we have a 5 to 10 minute fight that can go either way.
So, I’m looking to try out some other classes. I want to be able to roam. I want to be tough enough to stand up to whatever and put out DPS enough to kill whatever. Swiftness close to perma would be a necessity. Being able to gtfo of dodge would be a requirement or my repair bill would suck. Being able to melt a Thief’s face would be a bonus. Even bigger bonus would be something unique and unexpected. I’m looking at Necro, Engineer and maybe D/D Ele right now. The latter being a little daunting with the learning curve and not exactly unique at the moment.
Anyways, am I deluded? Am I stuck with either playing a Thief myself (Which ain’t happenin. Too many of them as it is and I hatess them. Other than my occasional duo partner <3.) or just sticking with my Mesmer?
Thanks in advance.
Mesmer. 598 badges total. 3100~ kills. Which is, in my opinion, completely and utterly ridiculous. I’m in full exotics purchased from the TP. What’s the point of badges again?
The only NPC I don’t understand in all of WvW are the sentry post guards. I don’t see any purpose to them. I guess they can damage Dolyaks on the way by, assuming it’s from an opposing faction. But other than that, they just stand out there, all by themselves, guarding a flag. They should be able to do some sort of alerting when attacked. Maybe have other guards appear. Or have something happen at whatever camp/tower/keep is near by. I just don’t understand the point of them.
Beyond that, make the NPCs too tough, you’re either encouraging zergs or removing something for lower levels to do.
Wish our NA was as strong as our Oceanic on IoJ. Had outmanned in all three zones last night. At least I can roam relatively well as a Mesmer. Not quite as good as Thief, but close. Thank you Centaur Runes!
Nice work guys!
This is great. Keep the updates coming!
I don’t think there’s a single thing right about that video. O.o
Oh, nice Oceanics! You rule! C’mon IoJ!
That sounds like playing an ele with all the swapping around. Confusing as hell. Would take a lot of practice, certainly, to get the potential out of it.
Good d/d eles make me want to roll one and I play a mesmer. No other class, outside of “looks good on paper” ideas I have while at work are as tempting to play when I see them in action as that particular class/spec. I’ve seen a couple of them out there that made the class look OP.
I am very interested in seeing Grizle’s build as well.
So much better this time around, IoJ. So happy we’re getting back to the level of competition we were at pre-Halloween event. As mostly a roamer/pugger, I’d like to give a salute to BP’s and Hero’s commanders. When I see you folks log on, I know things are about to get better.
Okay, I have to admit… was roaming with a Thief buddy the past couple nights which gave me a little extra time to watch the iBerserker more closely. It’s pretty bad. I must be fighting some bad players normally because I’ve still been able to take people down regularly. But now that I had a half second to watch the damage output a little closer… ouch.
I really don’t want to roll something else while waiting for a fix. I’ll probably just keep plugging away and deal with it.
IoJ… we don’t give up. It’s a pity we’re leaving our Oceanic folks in a bit of a pinch, though. Not sure what happened to our NA population.
Thief if you want to fear no class other than another Thief. Plus they pretty much have a flat learning curve. Elementalist for flexibility and outright toughness with a d/d aura build or whatever it is. They’re hard to kill and have many escape options. But, in direct opposition to the Thief, have a learning curve that looks like scaling a building.
Right now, if you take any advice at all, I’d highly suggest avoiding Ranger as they’re ridiculously easy to kill. They’re a good support class, especially if you’re running with the zerg and attacking keeps, but are pretty terribad 1v1. Mostly because I think a sizable chunk of their DPS is wrapped up in their pet’s AI which is just not good.
I’ve been doing just fine roaming solo in WvW. I consider myself an average player and nothing to brag about at all. So I think there’s at least some overreaction here. I can only think of 2 fights that without a doubt the iBerserker cost me the win. Both with Thiefs. 1 that lasted 10 minutes of back and forth. The Thief had the audacity to spam laugh me after, but that’s Thief players for you. I’d have bowed had I won because it was epic. Either way, though, I’m doing just fine. I do wince when I see those 400 point iBerserker hits or he just misses outright, certainly. So I keep coming to this thread hoping for a fix. But I don’t see any reason to shelf my character at all.
Heh. You certainly nailed tongue in cheek. The music was great.
Ya, that was unpleasant.
I just pulled that out of my hindquarters because I’m at a loss as to what happened.
IoJ is really starting to disappoint me. If I could cross server group for fractals with my pve’ing guild mates, I’d consider moving at this point. It’s like we peaked at Tier1 decided we’d done all we could in WvW, then ran off to PvE events starting with Halloween and never looked back.
Personally, I’m out there every day I’m on. First thing I do after checking auctions is click WvW and head out to the first BL that’s open…. where I’m running around solo in a sea of towers sporting other people’s colors, outmanned and trying to avoid zergs. Where is everyone?!
No more maps. More ways to to spend Karma in WvW. I’m all about that. The only thing really missing beyond that is community in WvW. Too much anonymity makes everyone just a face in the crowd instead of your realm mate.
Anyways… ya… give me stuff to spend Karma on that’s uniquely WvW.
You know, there’s something to be said for going to one of the bottom three. You definitely get to know your enemy as they don’t change nearly as often. I’m guessing a better, tighter knit community as you don’t have the bandwagoners. That’s an interesting suggestion.
We’ll have to see next week if this was truly the Halloween event. I have serious doubts…
I’m not whining. I’m calling it as I see it. And I have been fighting for 2 hours now. Whatever… nice attitude from a fellow server mate or whatever we’re supposed to call each other. I think your little snippy comment is why WvW isn’t what we’ve all been hoping for. There’s no sense of community or having each other’s backs and all that.
So I guess we’re ending this on a bad note, eh JQ and SBI? Nice double teaming you have going on right now in IoJ. What a change from a great weekend.
Definitely an awesome weekend. I figured whatever server had the most folks available who could play during the work week would pull ahead. Seems that’s JQ. Either way, I’m not at all disappointed in IoJ’s showing.
Thanks! Looks like IoJ has some work to do tonight.
While I agree with the Best Match EVAH! sentiment, enough of that already. Gimme scores, people! What else am I supposed to be doing here at work? :P
I see “Hold the Line” and I think Captain Kirrahe or Dr. Mordin making fun of him. I’m such a geek.
I love seeing us winning but I hate the long queues I’m in now. For me, it’s not worth it. I’d rather have us stay middle tier and be able to actually play. Obviously selfish, but it’s the only part of the game I’m interested in.
I’m going with what appears to be the consensus: Thief
I’m terrible at shattering. 59 levels and I’m still bad at keeping track of my illusions and remembering to use the F1-4 skills. I’m a jerk in WvW though with the glamours.
Yes… yes… please keep spamming grenades on your gate on defense. The more damage the better. >)
This is exactly why I save my feedback for the gate instead of the wall. Then I throw a Warden in there and laugh maniacally.
Martym, how exactly was I supposed to dodge any of that. I heard the buzz of the lightning strike and I was downed. I had no time to do anything at all. Let’s say, for argument’s sake, that I was able to somehow know this was all going to happen and in a tenth of a second get a good dodge in. Then what? Seriously, then what? Run? Can’t. Hide? Can’t. Try to do anything at all to the Thief? POOF! Stealth. Gone.
It’s easy to say all this. “He’s bad”. “He should have dodged”. “Blah blah blah” when you’re not on the receiving end of this crap. And that’s what it is. Crap. I showed you above how exactly a blink and your dead happened to me. Go ahead and justify it in your mind all you like, but you’re fooling yourself into thinking that this is okay. I can only hope ANet get’s some sort of a wake up call to this and does something about it.
No, the OP has it right. I know you guys get hammered with these threads but there really is a reason for it. In WvW, Thief catches you you’re dead. Then as your friends try to help you, the Thief is gone. Just… gone. It’s DAoC rogue classes all over again and I’m really unhappy that Anet brought them back. WTF are these MMO companies thinking?
From my combat log about 10 minutes ago. I’m alt tabbing to manually type this out:
6449 Steal
1350 Double Strike
7473 Cloak and Dagger
2164 Lightning Strike
1339 Double Strike
18775 points of damage and I didn’t even see him until I was downed. That’s an issue and one that needs serious looking at. You’re kidding yourself if you think any of this is okay.
