Returning Guild Wars 2?

At the moment, there is nothing offered for money that exceeds the items you can obtain in game. If you are referring to Legendary/Ascended gear, you can obtain those in game without spending a penny. Also, The stats on said gear, does not have a massive advantage over someone in exotics, which can -easily- be bought for a decently low cost. Or use Karma to get the “best” gear from the vendors in Orr. I fare quite well against most players after never having spent a dollar in the cash shop. You can compete just fine with the tools given to any player in Guild Wars 2.

No, you don’t. There is nothing you “need” to buy to enjoy this game. If you -want- something that takes a long time to get, that’s completely different than -needing- it to accomplish other tasks. May I ask how you cannot beat the game with the tools given without paying extra?

Discussion about the DR system - Merged thread

Anet specifically said you need to move around to avoid DR issues and they encourage farmers.

If you stay @the one spot then DR will affect you.

To a degree I farm, but I keep on the move. I have yet to have a DR problem.

If you are you are staying in the same spot or botting and deserve to have issies

Agreed, I tend to hit Orr for about 40 minutes a day, and I usually take in a rare or two. But I really only do it for the karma, so…loot isn’t a big issue with me.

This is how I am having fun!

After leveling 3 characters to 80, I’m -still- discovering new things, and seeing new places. I find myself going back to most of the zones and helping newer players accomplish tasks that I remember having trouble with. This game is brilliant, and that is how I have fun.

This is completely ridiculous.

You can tell me it has the same stats as other exotic weapons, blah blah blah, but this is a legendary we’re talking about; an item that is supposed to be the culmination of a player’s dedication and hard work. It is the top tier of the game, and now it’s pay to win??? >.>

This is in no way, pay to win….It’s pay to look “awesome”. Nothing more.

Party / ally support: Warr vs Guard ?

Pretty much, Warriors can add more offensive capabilities along with minimal defensive. Guardians can offer some in the way of offensive capabilities but really shine with the defensive ones. Drawing conditions from allies is a huge ability the guardian can use. A plethora of healing abilities is nice as well. What’s especially nice, is that some of the guardians weapon skills, along with most of their utility skills, have something to offer for a group, other than massive damage spikes. I personally prefer Guardian over Warrior when it comes to party play.

No aggro/hate mechanic not true?

Hahaha, I know that “downed” situation all too well. It’s just funny, because my thief seems to take a good chunk more aggro than my Guardian. I know the damage numbers obviously help the mob decide who dies next. But my CD thief has no issue with aggro while my crit thief HAS to cloak regularly to reset aggro, and sometimes AS SOON as I become particular matter again, the mob doesn’t like that I fooled him. ^^ And most of the time it ends quite badly for him.

No aggro/hate mechanic not true?

At no point has anyone stated that there is no aggro mechanic. Bosses have stuck to me like glue before.

However, there is no one overall encompassing aggro mechanic, such as in other games. There is no ‘hate’ mechanism that a single character can use in order to maintain aggro and act as a tank. That’s the only thing they’ve said. So thus, it breaks from other games in that there are no taunts, etc.

How do aggro mechanics work?

It varies on the monster. I can’t remember but the post is floating around where a dev said that different monsters have different mechanics. Some go for ranged characters, some go for the heaviest armor, some go for the lightest, some go for X, some for Y and some for Z. That’s all we really know now about the aggro mechanics is that it varies between enemies and it’s not linked to one single factor throughout the entire game like DPS or armor class in other games.

Thank you for clarifying, and I wasn’t implying that there was no mechanic, just that I am absolutely clueless as to how it operates. And I will say, I do like that everyone has a fair chance to be the target.

@Nero. Problem is, is sometimes I don’t deal any damage, and I still get aggro. I test this regularly on Vet/Champ mobs. Of course, I then attack and maintain aggro, but it’s silly that I ever get it to begin with. I normally wait for a Guard/War to go zerk the mob before I spike, but even then, sometimes they b-line for me first. I really wish there was a mechanic description of why this is, as it baffles me. Although! I do think it’s fair that all players have to experience some sort of fear.

There seems to always be a a bit of random aggroing but in my case I can tell that the mobs bounce to someone else but after a few seconds they are focused on me.

Or a test I did with friends where the group initially aggros the mobs I would stand away from them and the mobs would ignore the group and run to me.

This happens to me on my thief all the time. I could be standing near a node, and 4 people will be fighting a Vet or champ, and out of nowhere, he bypasses the damage done by the others and heads straight for me. Maybe because it calculates the damage I -could- do and makes a code decision based on that. No idea why it happens, but just know that it seems that aggro is something that ALL players will have to learn to deal with.

As it goes now, GW2 is very successful, regardless what the “quitters” say. The community is just split at the moment on what ANet should be doing to content/bugs/route. And I agree with you 100%, as without competition, why would a developer go above and beyond to make an outstanding title when it would just be easier to create a generic thing and sell a lot of copies. And as far as your liking WoW more, it’s your life, and your game…and I’m sure your computer should be filled with things YOU like

any tips for guardian?

What makes the guardian so great, is that it can fill just about any playstyle…(except a ranged playstyle). The G has so many options and tools at it’s behest to really make combat fluid and fun throughout the leveling process. As far as suggestions….don’t listen to anyone tell you what is good and what isn’t, and play how you want to play. Pick weapons/skills YOU think are interesting and fun

I’m at a crossroads with my Guardian and my Thieves. Thief is ridiculously fun late game when you can spend as much time stealth as time spent fighting. And backstabs on a crit build are amazing! My Guardian I love for the sheer “punch you in the face and laugh off your silly attacks” kind of feel. I guess I love them both equally because of the contrast they have with one another.

Is Legendary Weapons Worth Crafting?

in Players Helping Players

Legendary weapons at the moment are just status symbols. You are not being prevented from getting a legendary and transmuting it to a weapon you like for the stats. If I recall correctly, however, the legendary weapons are getting a stat upgrade to be on par with the ascended gear that is being added. And I do believe if you transmute, the animation will remain.

It’s always best to try to get into groups to tackle Cursed Shore content, as it’s definitely not very solo friendly. The events are not designed to be done by 1 or 2 people. It -is- an 80 zone, with mobs 80+. You just have to be careful running through is all.

I have a few level 80 characters, and now that I’ve pretty much finished my to-do list in game, I’d like to start spending time in a more relaxed, rp friendly environment. I have a few stories I could apply to my characters. They all range from “Lawful good” to “Chaotic Evil”. If there are any please let me know. If not, I’m considering making one myself, if there is any demand for it of course.

P.s. The reason for this is that I am not too excited about just waiting for another server to have an available slot for me to join. I figure I have accomplished much on YB, and I wouldn’t mind representing it in W3’s….Happy hunting!

Wintersday Jumping Puzzle Thread

I hope it’s harder than the Clocktower so that I can have as much, if not more, fun as I did with that. The hours I spent on the Clocktower are the most memorable for me in years; it was such a blast. I also loved how people complained about the Norn/Charr scaling, yet I succeeded repeatedly and reliably despite it.

It’s so satisfying being able to do the hardest jumping puzzles in the game while others fail and complain about the difficulty on the forums. Call me sadistic, but I think it’s a good thing that only the top X% of the population can succeed at certain content!

I’m not quite sure why difficulty is a priority. As much fun as “I” have farming Orr or doing w3, hard isn’t what attracts people to the game. I understand a challenge is necessary for a lot of people to enjoy the game, but making something super hard so that only a few can do it, is just silly. There are a lot of people that can’t devote the time to being the top 1% of anything in GW2. I’m not fighting here, but pointing out that the more friendly content is, the higher the population will grow. I’d rather not play guild wars if it is going to feel like a 4 player game. (In terms of server pop.)

"No Mounts" Mindset related to GW2

There are already “mounts” in a sense of the word implemented in the game. Golems are, in a way that is loosely related to, a mount. Albeit, it’s more like a machine you ride with different skills. But! It seems the ability to have vehicles is there already. I’d like to see this translated to ride-able mounts in the future. Or at least they can build on what is currently available.

5 Things you like in GW2

Posted by: cNcHellShadow.7691

cNcHellShadow.7691

These are the things I absolutely love about Guild Wars 2.

1. The ability to really customize the appearance of my characters in a way that I can thoroughly enjoy.
2. The beautiful scenery, I love just running around taking in the large world that really does feel alive.
3. The ease in getting the (arguable) best gear. 3 Characters with full exotics without too much in the way of farming/grinding.
4. The casual friendliness. In that I can toon hop and not feel like I’m missing out on anything.
5. The lore. 250 years took a great toll on Tyria, and ArenaNet did well to show what war/famine/plague/time/age did to the world.

I know not all will agree on most, if any of my points. But my opinion is mine regardless. I waited a long time to play this, and absolutely feel that I got my money’s worth, and much much more.

It may not be as easy to implement as you think. If i’m not wrong, most if not all the zones were made with a low ceiling height.

Adding mounts mean all the zones will have to be reworked to add a way higher ceiling.

Wouldn’t that only be an issue for flying mounts? I’d be pretty happy with land only mounts.

I would love to have a mount, primarily for cosmetic purposes though. Even if they did have some sort of functional use, I could see it being something similar to swiftness. A slight speed buff to make the running easier on people that like to discover/experience all the beautiful scenery given to us.

Make overflow the default for PvE zones.

I regularly “tour” the world, and most times I’ll just pick a zone, and run through for fun, aiding in DE’s wherever I come across them. I think it’s just a lack of reward for doing them. Most rewards for DE’s are tempting to lower level characters and definitely appeal to new players. It is hard, however, to entice higher level players to force themselves to sit through a lengthy event in hopes of getting what most consider “trash loot”. I do my best to get players together in zones though!

I thought I did a pretty good job mixing and matching on my characters to make them look fairly unique, as I don’t think I’ve really seen a full set of armor I like. Some pieces, however, look amazing with different set pieces.

Sorry to hear that. I was hoping others were seeing some sort of increase in quality or even quantity of drops. I did, however, see a decrease in a last couple of hours of farming, probably attributed to the lack of party invites I was receiving.
