This is actually my least anticipated update so far! No interest in SAB, not my cup of tea, as is the ascended armour. I might be interested if the ascended armour has new skins, but even then it’s unlikely it will be anything near Tuesday when I can get my hands on it.
Good thing it’s just another 2 weeks after until something else!
What a load of rubbish. Yes I would also love to see somebody downstairs run a multinational business.
Socially engineered? No, I’m talking by personal business experience – are you? You think that CEOs are greedy and they just sit there and let everybody else do the work don’t you?
They are running this game like a business. I mean to say they’ve got things backwards from what a game is supposed to do. You have to have a vision of what fun will be like in your game, and you’ve got to make it the best it can be. Here they are trying to cater to various people and their playstyles and their wants and their wishes. All different demographics, like a large business might try to net as many customers as it can by offering different products that have various markets. Except, this is only 1 product. A single video game. If you try to please everyone you will end up pleasing no one.
I’d be more worried is A.net was being run as a game instead of the kitten business it actually is.
This – The very definition that they are still in business is an argument that they’re doing something right.
Saying that ANet are doing a bad job have no concept of what it’s like to run an international business that has up to the millions in clients. It’s not an easy job. It requires an immense amount of insight and overview of the industry and business acumen at that. That’s one of the reasons for CEOs being paid more than the guy who works downstairs.
The forums give a completely skewed view of things, forums are used for discussion and unfortunately praise is a dead end when it comes to discussion. Complaining generates more discussion than praise, thus reading the forum everyday will look like people are unhappy.
If ANet did a survey and approached a set of random players I’d bet my hat that there were a lot more satisifed customers than people give credit for.
The penny arcade article is very good if you get a chance to read it. The whole thing with CoD, Mass effect is messed up in that people are receiving death threats of all things. It takes a minority to cause a kitten storm.
Thankfully it seems developers are intelligent enough to realise that this is a minority and can’t let it get them down – or there’d never be any sequels. Successful games saleswise would have all their developers disheartened because bigger audience = bigger chance for disagreement.
I want to see somebody who’s a full time developer whining on about this game. I bet you they’ll give a justified argument, not just complaining when they see a problem.
OK ignore my above point on ascended trinklets, answered at same time I posted. But clarification on the rest of my armor?
Can we have some clarification on making MF items account bound – so that means all my ascending magic find trinklets can be moved onto another character of my choosing? And same to move any medium armor across relevant medium characters?
In that case if i put a magic find rune on everything I own it will all become account bound?
It might be freaky but how about having all your alts in a home instance as NPCs. Even better if in your (if we had) guild hall, everybody’s alts were there as NPCs? This would introduce the party feel you get in other MMOs where you could just stand around and chat, without it just being an empty lonely room.
Maybe even a fight simulator where the alts would battle each other now and again, have guild scoreboards? Aka championship manager for alts :p you could check back every day to pick up your winnings (everybody loves a time gate, right?), bet on people’s alts, alt podiums!!
This comes from an idea I saw in dark souls. There was a boss where you would either be fighting the boss or BE the boss. It was awesome to say the least, and even in a punishing game like that I had no problem with getting beaten by the opposite player (because tbh you were going to die anyway the first time you play a boss).
Could we have a fractal where you were pitched against another group? Either 1v1 and you had to win at least 2 matches out of your 5 in group? (So even of you lost more than you won you could still proceed). Or group vs group, best of 3?
I know fractals are PVE but if you make it the right difficulty as explained above it should be very fun even for PVE centric players.
Faves would be great, even at least dye favourites. All pieces have the same dye slots so why not save them.
I would like to see some of the pet skills replaced instead. There’s only 4 or 5 I consider using. Condition based or go home pet.
This is almost close to ’ why not make the gem store free ’
+1 great idea. No doubt they already store this data in the database so why not show it.
you can use /sleep and then in a certain camera angle it will be like first person view
This, or try and place your back to the wall so the camera goes through your character.
Unfortunately that’s the Internet for you. People think they’re entitled to everything and that they’re always right. For some reason logic goes out the window. Also people are generally going to be more vocal if they are displeased about something rather than if they’re satisfied.
Although 99% of posts here are negative/flame wars it doesn’t represent the overall population. I doubt the 990k+ likes on Facebook were 980k angry customers. I for one am more than happy with the game and have no issues spending $10-15 a month in the gem store.
Flame and frost dyes! Although I can imagine the dozen owners of these dyes on the TP will get in a radge when their 100g dyes are worth a fraction.
Great thread Guzzi, good idea to provide short comprehensive ideas for ANet to stumble across.
1. Add a passive % increase to speed as an achieving unlock bonus. At 5000+ achievements you don’t want to spend time trekking around zones youve done before at base speed. Or if you’ve hit 100% zone competion you get a permenant speed boost in that zone.
2. A personal NPC only you can see to guide you through new content. As Joey said I don’t want to have to read on other sites how to get to the new content. The living story heralds just don’t give enough info. Option to turn off the NPC if you don’t want to use it.
3. Character customisation options with every update. Even if its one hairstyle for one race every two weeks its better than nothing.
But honestly these points are stopping me playing its just a nice to have.
The art style is fantastic, the events are breathless. Im stumped and wordless to describe this game.
I’ll just go over to your other thread then to see more words.
Ha!
I’m glad this forum has turned itself from negator land to praise for the game, I was beginning to think the developers were stopping themselves reading the forum, much like celebrities picking up the newspaper.
Ok let’s get back on track to the original discussion. These posts have once again turned into more I’m right/your wrong/you’ve misunderstood/no I haven’t which is all this forum gravitates towards.
This is the first game I’ve been more than happy to voluntarily pay for. Even when I buy RNG boxes and get nothing out I suppose I can just consider that payment for the 100s of hours work going into each biweekly update.
Most importantly this game has that addictive quality, which I think is due to having so much content with goals being so accessible. Once you reach 80 everything is within 24 hours reach of playtime. You don’t have weekly gated raids, there isn’t a string of 100 quests to get to a particular dungeon etc. bar legendaries and RNG items you can experience pretty much all this game has to offer as a casual player.
On the point about passion I love the fact they’ve clearly been listening and monitoring discussions about this game in relation to some of the recent features (wallets, balancing of RNG and tokens)
Yup, helps to have a phone with browser/tablet or 2nd monitor for this reason, so you can quickly get a group from external websites.
Good points, on reflection I agree. Maybe if you could only vote once for one person? Would encourage PUGS (don’t know if that’s a gd thing) but it will boost playing with strangers. Who knows you might use your friends list!!
Yeah I admit it was becoming publicity for a competitor so I understand their point. I’ll use the other games forum for that discussion.
Ok I’m going to try this again since the other thread here got locked. I personally think it had some great discussion, but I’m not going to argue with the mods.
Edited from other thread:
The private instanced loot system vs Need/Greed
In (other games) it was /roll highest number gets the loot on a need/want/greed system. Couldn’t go back to that although it made rare drops even rarer but at the same time without ridiculously high RNG.
XP for everything vs grind for gameplay
The fact you can just pick up and play gw2 and still make progress is great. So many times in (other games) I’d run a quest line and get nowhere for a few hours playtime.
Dynamic quests / static NPCs and quest logs
I don’t want to have to run to and from NPCs to do quests, being able to dip in and out of events means I can enjoy content without the camping/delivery boy mechanics that are just a timesink.Transmuting vs chase the stats
I love the fact that you can create a new character and instantly go shopping for level 80 gear for it to wear (admittedly via a gemstone gateway for trans stones). It means that the defining objective for your character is no longer wear the best stats to make a great character. Instead it’s wear what you want and just enjoy it. Also there’s no /inspect which means you can actually get away with wearing anything.
Without mentioning other games, what makes GW2 great and should praise Anet for
(edited by cassius.5809)
Why not have weapons granted actually based on reputation? I.e some rating system akin to forum +1 where the more people rated you the better tier of weapon you were awarded.
So after an event/fractal/dungeon you gave man of the match (see Swtor PVP) to a player. Thus giving points/tokens whatever to buy unique skins. Thus you absolutely knew players that had these skins were genuinely of high regard. Much like the Xbox ones profile system.
Obv there’d need to be some discussion in regards to abusing the system to prevent guilds just repping each other etc.
Will you be satisfied if this Halloween Jennah wears a giant Quaggen costume instead?
I’ve not played an MMO with no levels I’m quite wary of having no underlying goal. My goal is experiencing the journey not the destination? Crazy talk.
This is why every character I make is human followed by Norn. charr to ugly, sylvari hot mess, asura inspired by E.T.
I had a friend who didn’t even install the game but his character has a precursor. INORITE?!
Gem purchases are the reason the Anet team can roll out new content bi-monthly.
They couldn’t employ such a large team otherwise.
But I can’t justify saying to people ‘go on you should spend money on this game’ when there is zero benefit over the people who don’t.
You know in some MMOs you can visibly see your DR for XP – the more you play the kitten nus xp you get on top of the standard rate.
What if there was a secret underlying mechanic where the more you play the game the less chance you get decent loot?
I’ve found recently I keep getting exotics after not playing the game for days at a time.
Even more so what if when you generate a new character it permanently set a secret quality loot % against that character, e.g. This character has 10% more chance over the base rate of getting higher worth loot. Would explain why some of your friends get better loot than you, right?!
What if GMs watched certain players from their office and interfered with mob drops and watched your reaction when they give you a precursor/100 crap trophy drops in a row.
What if actually NOBODY got any rare skins from BL chests and the only people who did have them were characters created by ANet themselves posing as real players !!?
WHAT IF Kiel was actually a Mesmer quaggen and it was all an illusion!!!!!!????
ps don’t take this post too seriously please..
Ok now I’m even more intrigued. I was thinking about the terrain system and wondered how long it would take for players to completely destroy the world!!! Of course they’ve thought if that. They should definitely have a server at beta where they turn off regeneration.
Animation in the videos looks amazing, very smooth.
Oh and mods, please don’t go into my row in the player database and set the super secret loot chance modifier field to 0.1% because I bought attention to this game:)

There are also no levels or in this game, although your character does still progress.

This is all accomplished with voxels – the fundamental building block of EverQuest Next – which allow for more convincing destruction.

Player stats are called attributes. Equipment will not provide attributes. Additional attributes will be extremely rare and will require tremendous effort to modify.
lovely thanks milo ill have a read now
Yup. Aesthetics. You can do 99% of the content with gear 30 levels too low. I’ve been running around at level 60 with level 15 gear on without noticing recently.
In regards to trinity I feel that this game does have a very heavy sense of the player still being solo even in groups and events. Having no defined tank/dps/heal role sometimes makes it feel the only effect you have in a group is making sure you yourself don’t wipe, apart from in a few of the higher dungeons/fractals where teamwork is promoted a bit more.
Underwhelming loot is being fixed. I feel like you haven’t read the recent news.
No you’re right I didn’t mention the champion patch but I have read it. I didn’t want to comment on it until I’d seen it in action and understood the mechanics of it 100% more than the drip fed information we’ve been given.
Those couple of posts (redfeather and milo) mentioning the additional features of EQ:N would you mind quoting some sources? I’d like to see more information regarding that games standard mechanics. Sorry cant quote you multitasking is a pain on iPad.
Lastly please refrain from arguing I’m tires of these excuses for a discussion in these forums. Certain posts (since edited by their posters regarding a hideous topic) were completely unnecessary for the original topic.

Ones definitely overdue in my books. Would be nice to see some fresh faces. Maybe for the next major holiday?
Edited title to make it a bit more mod-friendly
Yeah was very mindful of keeping this post more relevant to GW2 than a third party game. I agree insignia, competitors will take leaves from ANets book but that’s what makes healthy industries – healthy competiton. Even if better games do come out I like to think it will be because of ANets hard work
I’ve put about £70 in including the initial purchase. Mainly from RNG boxes which I’ve learnt aren’t worth it. The only thing I would spend my money on now would be gems for trans crystals. But I can just buy them with gold.
I really want to give ANet my money but they’re really not giving me any incentive. Give me more guaranteed (well designed, cough aetherized) customisation options like hairstyles and skins and ill open my wallet again.
What if it turned out these stats stating Kiel was winning were actually part of the storyline, Kiel was actually rigging the election and Evon was actually winning based on actual player token submissions?! Boom!!
The next Everquest game is on the horizon and I for one will be keeping a key eye on it: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/08/02/first-look-everquest-next
I played EQ2 from launch until the 3rd expansion then due to not having a gaming PC I went off the grid. It was a great game, but looking back now I can’t help but feel I won’t be able to play a new MMO unless they take heed from GW2. It’s the unique mechanics of this game that do it, specifically:
The private instanced loot system vs Need/Greed
In EQ2 it was /roll highest number gets the loot on a need/want/greed system. Couldn’t go back to that although it made rare drops even rarer but at the same time without ridiculously high RNG.
XP for everything vs grind for gameplay

If new MMOs don’t adopt these revelations I really will struggle to tear myself away from the brilliantly thought through game. Yes it has its foibles but its leading the genre by experimenting. risk in new features is the key for growth. Keep it up ANet. you won’t be losing my gem purchases to subscription MMOs like EQ for a while if you carry on at the current pace.
What do you reckon, have you been spoilt by GW2? Could you go back to last gen MMO mechanics like camping/loot sharing/quests?
First up, here’s my main character.
Artist for final image is Tyler Chow. tcloreart.com
Love those screenshots Auesis, nothing wrong with superb post-production!
Here are my mains, Ixiaria and Patriot Demoseye, in their home environments.
I’m wondering how they went about this video – was it based on ingame then tarted up or pre-rendered seperately? Just because the Shatterer’s and Tequila’s landing is almost identical to the animations in-game but far more ‘droolage’
Put my graphics to max, I was blown away how nice this game can look!
I feel sad I can’t play at this graphics :S
Post you’r awesome pics!
Stunning screenshot, love the action
This is my ‘White Knight’, inspired by the PS3 series ‘White Knight Chronicles’!
Last couple are examples of swapping out the colours, seems even the garish pinks can work with it :\

I thought I’d create a topic based on the great landscapes of Tyria. They also make great desktop wallpapers.
These to start are a few from travels around Malchor’s Leap in Orr. Props to the art guys at AN for creating these great views.
Feel free to add your own!
Sidenote: One request though to AN – please add a first person mode, or at least add the option to disable character rendering when you take screenshots! I’ve had to get around this by placing the camera up against pieces of landscape so it tricks the view into first person – as you can see from one of the screenshots below my toons head is at the bottom :\
