OK. So I bent the rules, I’ve photoshopped them into one dungeon. I used CS2 so I think I’ve balanced the scales :P

Since the TP uses a web platform it’s probably done by an entirely different team, and as a result would require interface changes in game which are bottom of the pile. That or the database query to add this filter for whatever reason fks up the TP load performance.

it wouldn’t be a proper way to judge skill and instead promote people to get as much points as possible rather than defending bases.

This brings about an other problem. I just almost ended up with 0 points but on the winning team since I spent all my time fending off and defending against 3v1s. I can’t help but think keeping those 3 players busy helped us win, but I ended up with 25 points at the end. So yeah this would probably only work if defence was rewarded in pvp.

How does this sound for a matchmaking do over?

Instead of MMR could we get matched up on your average tournament match score/placing?

So if after 10 games I was on average 1.6 out of 10 players I would be in matches with players of similar placing? Or done by points so say you score about 130 points a match on average you get matches up by that?

This could also be used in the leaderboards?

Long term it would also work itself out. As soon as you start getting 30 points in the higher ranking matches the system would naturally give you easier opponents. Eventually you’d settle at a place where all the people in your matches scored relatively similarly to you, rather than people who get 30 points every match for 100 matches.

You’d have to multiply average rank by games played so people who have played 1 match averaging at 200 wouldn’t get matched with people who’d played 500 matches at 200.

For the player who scores 200+ in every match for 300 matches he’d be top of the leaderboard. Surely that’s the kind of player you’d expect to be top x in their region?

Matchmaking has not changed. We stopped showing ranks because they were being used incorrectly (as if they implied skill rather than time invested), causing a toxic environment where players felt justified (wrongly) while harassing each other.

We are working on changes to matchmaking, but those changes are unrelated to the decision to not show ranks.

That said, there has been a huge influx of new players, and this is likely what you are noticing. They are likely going to need some time to learn the ropes and figure out how to play. May I suggest taking a patient, mentoring approach?

Thanks for the reply Justin. It just seemed odd to me that since you couldn’t see rank until the match was over you couldn’t really haze people because of their lower rank since you didn’t know it until it was too late. I’ve had match finish and the players I didn’t think performed well were actually the higher ranks with some <10 level ones doing really well.

The problem now is yes newbies have to learn but in soloq 90% don’t listen so you can’t teach them. If they do listen you’re never matched with them again so you don’t see the long term benefit.

I had a player yesterday whisper me after a match. He was from the other team and said they all felt sorry for me because of my teammates. That message made me feel better than the 300 rank points :p

They also removed displaying rank at the end of a match. I can only presume this is so they don’t need to fix matchmaking since we can’t easily prove it’s broken

I know how much time and effort agent and chiwii et al put into these events even just scouting for empty servers. This seems like a workaround already before we even changed to megaservers. Now it’s EVEN harder to arrange I can’t see us doing wurm again any time soon. And I’m under the presumption that already we are part of the lower amount of guilds able to complete this boss. So god knows how anybody’s going to do this in an instance full of pugs.

I’ve pretty much consigned myself to not seeing wurm being killed again any time soon. Hopefully a dev will report ok kills in the first month of the new patch and see that 3 kills = why even bother creating the content to start with

my proposed solution

1 guild instance a day. Available to all guilds with x players online and representing. No other restrictions. ‘Create wurm raid’ ok. Pop up appears to everybody repping. Yes join (same as story or PVP prompt). Wurm spawns after 15 mins.

You won’t get too many people creating instances a day overloading the server (I’m presuming that’s the reason for gating the spawn feature away currently). Since you have to have x people online and repping it means you won’t have every guild doing it for a laugh then insta wiping.

I know they mentioned armor in the blog today, but did they mention ascended other gear (weapons, trinklets etc.)

Can anybody discern what’s happening in this market? It’ was never going to be bomb proof since you can resell after use, but, it has the activity of either:

Too many speculators now dumping that they’ve seen the piece hasn’t risen after they’ve stopped dropping

Or

They’re still dropping so everybodies dumping.

Either way the price has continued to drop after end of LS.

What do we get now when we rank up? The usual chests we used to get? I’ve spent all my glory and got no salvage kits left so I’m teetering on the edge of rank 21 before I get anymore rank points.

Shall I hold off ranking anymore or have they implemented new chest rewards?

A sensible question regarding QA and testing

Good to see somebody else is on the same wavelength Lyanna! I think coming from a programming/data/software discipline always helps to see things logically!

In regards to krall I 100% agree that you won’t be able to get all the bugs removed but having a build you would have pushed live in 2013 an extra phase of QA for the 2014 releases will reduce that number. Something is obviously missing from the procedure. It’s especially important to refine and review something that in anets own words has ‘never been done before’.

Time resources and money shouldn’t be overlooked but this subject precisely is something that your profit should go towards. Put it back into the product to improve it, increase the income get more profit rinse repeat. If ANET and it’s parent companies have the money (which I’m sure they do) why not reinvest in something as as vital as refined QA. This is still public testing after all, if anything it’s cheaper than private QA and more appropriate in this scenario.

Time is a different matter, they’ve consigned themselves to bimonthly releases, this solution (if any) should tailor to that.

Ok this isn’t defending anybody and genuinely a question I want to know an answer to…please no flaming and stupid comments because I genuinely want to get peoples (Anets would be nice) thoughts. This comes about after reading a post listing all the quite intrusive bugs created in the past 3 months. There were quite a few to say the least but I myself am fully aware you can’t point fingers at developers for bugs, you can only create procedures to remove them.

How do you QA test something that requires 150 people to complete/test/break without employing 150 QA testers and not doing a public test server?
Can’t do a public test server of the final patch of LS due to spoilers and leaks. I can imagine how difficult it is to employ and coordinate 150 QA testers that are experienced enough to complete the knights event.

The only thing I can think of is an ANET public QA team. Forgot the idea that your content won’t get leaked, because it inevitably will even with an NDA. Run a survey similar to a beta roll out asking your profession, MMO background etc. hand pick your QA testers with those of a testing background who can fill in a QA form.
Real test environments, real QA testers with production ready content, ready to test a few weeks in advance.

Hey,

As a new Mesmer, I’ve been holding out since mention of reworking all the runes and sigils, based on the presumption that all 6 piece boosts are going to get scrambled (read nerfed).

Do you think I’m right to hold out another month to see what happens? Or just shell out the 60g now? I’m anxious that I’ll spend 60g then they’ll replace the +2% / +10 with something rubbish to balance out the great +25% speed.

I’m gonna guess the runes aren’t going to go up in price…. Right!?

Yup I was there too, got pretty much the same minus the coffers. We were actually 7 short at the time you had to escape thankfully citizens escaping after that still count. We were actually struggling to find citizens at a few points so I’m guessing they respawn in waves. Keeps it exciting at least!

What’s the problem here? You can buy WvW levels from the laurel merchant in the WvW zone starting areas? As other people have said you just need 60 laurels and the extra tokens you can get in achievement chests?

So you can still get this by doing just PvE. If you have to do world completion involving WvW is this really big news / a surprise?

It will gate access to legendaries a bit more – and if there’s still an argument that you HAVE to do wvw now to get a legendary, doesn’t that mean there’s a little bit of skill now required for a legendary?

In other MMOs i’ve played they’ve never really introduced a whole new type of gameplay, they’ve always stuck to the basic concept of the game.

Maybe it’s because the likes of EQ2 and EVE have always had massive 50+ player events as part of the core of it – Raids and PVP full scale territory wars, whereas GW2 seems to be trying to create raids with something that wasn’t built for raids?

Everything in the living story shouts the following:

The Living Story content is the developers trying to twist and manipulate the original game and engine to create something it was never meant to do.

I love the base content of this game – Dungeons, Fractals, Hearts, PVP, WVW. Living story seems to me they’ve taken the core game engine, ran out of things to do with it and just ‘modded’ it to create these giant events the game was never meant for (tequila, jungle wurm etc.).

Can we not go back to having new Dungeons/Fractals/PVP/WVW content? The most successful Living story content from what I’ve heard on forums and in-game as well as my own experience was the molten alliance dungeon. Why? Because it was a dungeon. It was content that the original game engine was meant for. Just because you can create a giant whole map event out of mini hearts doesn’t mean it makes for good content (defending the turrets is just 3 hearts, killing wurms/delivering barrels is just hearts at the end of the day).

I can only imagine somebody went ‘hey look what we did with super adventure box with this game’. Making new content the game was never intended for. Then they decided – why don’t we make all new content things the game was never intended for. And voila ‘the living story’.

I know guild wars 2’s ethos seems to be lets push the boundaries. But admit this didn’t work because it was never meant to. Go back to doing what the game does best. Dungeons/Fractals/PVP/WVW.

Which brings me to the topic title. It’s like Arenanet have taken the base release game and attempted to ‘Mod’ it to create what is now the living story. The living story is essentially a mod. These living story teams are just modders manipulating the game engine to make new content that shouldn’t be there.

Your thoughts?

When search ceases to function, please update this thread again. We will explore options to potentially restore search again if it ceases to function, but I can’t make any promises at this time.

If I search this thread for the word ‘working’ I invariable get no results (when it clearly appears in at least one comment on the first page). Interestingly, if I search for ‘not’ I sometimes get 87 hits, occasionally 88, and then (after retyping it and searching a couple of times) 0 results.
If I search the entire forum for ‘working’ I get 4 hits, none of which are this thread.

It’s better than before (this time I actually get to a search page) but it’s clearly not completely functional.

We seem to have two separate issues affecting search. The first is with indexing, which immediately after the deploy appeared to be working as normal, but shortly thereafter narrowed down to only searching within about the last hour. The second is an issue where search stops functioning entirely after an undetermined amount of time. Currently, we’re only experiencing the first, but not the second.

Seems to be happening again, at least with the indexing.

Another one I can’t tell if it’s indexing or not since I can’t manually see any posts with it in, but ‘cog’ ‘mystic cogs’ or ‘mystic’ returns no results, however i’d assume at least one person has said cog in the thread/forum.

Perhaps implement a ‘tagging’ system that doesn’t get indexed? Create a comma seperated tag entry against a post alongside subject and body, and searches just refer to this for new posts (at least whilst it gets fixed).

Stack overflow does tagging very well.

No. Just think of it as ‘hard mode’ you just need to put more effort in to be as effective, but one doesn’t just ‘become’ a ranger. Hence it getting a bad rep with people playing them badly in groups.

1. The personal loot system – need before greed? /rand to decide who gets the loot? NFW

2. It’s accessibility – the fact that you can decide what to do and just do it within 5 mins, no 40 min lfg queue no travelling 30 mins over the map. With the exception of fractals I can just pick up and play anything with an hour of my time

3. B2P – no subscription (yet I’ve spent about the same anyway) but gives you the choice to use real money to get to your goal faster. I admit at least a quarter of my gems are bought just as a Del Boy get rich quick scheme, I.e. Buying and reselling limited time items

4. That MMO addiction. I can’t finish games like the last of us anymore because I know it will just last a few days then go and gather dust. I need to know my time spent is on something long term and massive.

5. Ease of customisation. Apart from race you can completely redo your characters looks fairly easily via TP, trans stones and makeover kits

I have a 30/10/30/0/0 Condition/Toughness build that works really well solo. Can get to 25 bleeds, poision and a good lot of fire damage in one weapon rotation with
Axe/Horn, Sword/Torch. Combine that with Might sigils, jungle stalker (up to 12 might) and eagle for quick bleed refresh.

As long as you can read the skill tells of champs and be good at dodging then you’re good to go.

It’s a unique class mechanic it’s fine. As others have said pick another class. Your pets aren’t breaking anything (apart from they may themselves be broken at times)

Solo’d without dying as a condition/toughness ranger. Took a good few attempts and finding the right weapon and skill combos to use on each encounter but you can do it. But forcing users into experimenting with builds to overcome challenging content is exactly what I want to see.

Although I know this is a multiplayer game, I absolutely loves the gauntlet release. Funnily enough I also loved this one (same dev team?). The solo instances in both these updates have been a real thrill. Reason being they’re the only content that you yourself are responsible for succeeding in. It’s far too easy in all the other content to rely on other players. The illusion chambers and the final instance however punished you if you didn’t have the right setup of skills and tactics.

I finished the last instance with my ranger 5 times including the not dying achievement and it forced me to use skills and pets is never even used in the past year (bear tank and shortbow stealth ftw!). Being a full condition spec being able to drop all my conditions, retreat, stealth then let my pet tank until my timers reset was something I could do in the past but never had a reason too. It was like my ranger had a purpose.

It is a shame it’s buried behind a Zerg fest, but I can live with that I still had no issues getting to the top of level 3 each time. Again traps I never use came into play to prevent trains, so ranger love there.

I’m guessing when we kill the seed pod at the top it will wipe out all conditions in Kryta though. Turns out that was the source of poisons/bleeds/fire/confusion

I am very partial to my engineer.

Yours is pretty nice too – colours and lighting make the textures stand out really well.

Screenshots 1 and 2 are my Ranger currently. Tried to get some kind of exposed muscle thing going on with the pants.

3 is my guardian.

4 is the same ranger in one and two but a few months ago

I’m Piken Square based, looking for a guild who has alot of members willing to do Fractals as and when the opportunity arises. The main guild I’m in is great but there’s not a lot of love for fractals as I’d like. I’d like a guild which I can dip in and out of and go ‘Fractals anybody?!’ not to be met with silence.

My main is an 80 ranger (inorite?)

Just to put feelers out, what do people think about giving rewards based on the completion of the meta achievements now under the ‘historical’ tab.

Much like the achievement tiering, rewards for 5 metas, 10 metas, 15 metas etc.

Hi All.

I have had a few discussions with guildies recently as to how they have got their precursor. I’ve recently got mine based on various hearsay and rumours on what’s best to do to get it. I know all of these are up in the air unless we get verification from a dev themselves, but it will help understand if there is any ‘formula’ for success and what it may be.

Feel free to suggest additional questions or amendments to the questions.

Guidelines

All answers should be filled in based on the time you got the precursor (so based on the 4 items you put in the forge).

You can fill in the survey as many times as you want if you have obtained multiple precursors

All questions are optional so if you can’t remember or don’t know you can skip. Please don’t just put a random answer if you don’t know as it will skew results.

About 350g for tooth of frostfang. 320g was on random rare axes. 30g was a few months later once I’d licked my wounds. Got it in 8 identical exotic axes.

Rumourville states the best chances are:
Lvl 80
Self crafted
Exotic
Matching the weapon type of the resulting precursor

My prec fulfilled 3/4 (not self crafted)

Just over 120 (of our English pounds) I think over a year, which would be about in line with a subscription IMO. I’ve bought trans crystals, dye packs (as an RNG investment which I came out on top from) and 2800 gems to gold to finish my first legendary.

On that note I just won £25 on the lottery (that other RNG game) so that will cover that last purchase!!

Quite happy to carry on buying gems once a month as if it were as subs. But also so gold > gems for things like makeover kits.

The rift in the sky seems to be growing.
