poss loot drop fix, check your clocks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

cdsmith.1072

Not sure what Jason has been smoking, but most of the people that complain about not getting loot from champions and veterans DO infact get kill credit.

They are not getting kill credit on the drop tables. They might get it for experience or for a DE but the drop table is not recognizing the kill credit.

Hey everyone, I’m here to help clear up some of the confusion on this issue!

First, our apologies for the inaccurate response: your system clock does not affect your loot drops (sorry, conspiracy theorists). We’ve corrected this information for future responses.

If you’re not receiving loot from a champ/vet, it’s most likely because you’re not getting kill credit. We’re currently working on some improvements to this so that it will be easier to get rewards when you kill a creature.

Thank you for bringing this up!

This is exactly what I thought was happening. There were HUGE problems with kill credit for daily events at the start of GW2. Then we had big problems with getting experience from kills in a group. The loot drops issue is just another ‘credit’ issue. Somehow people are not getting credit for the kill or the assist so no loot.

It can be clearly seen when they have the kill 5 Veterans daily event. It usually takes me killing 15 to 20 veterans (many of the SOLO!) before I get credit for 5. Even on those 5 I only get a drop once or twice.

I know the idea is to keep people from leaching off of others but the way it is done now is punishing people that are playing. It is a hard line to balance but I am sure they will get it fixed eventually.

I think Veterans/Champions = Worthless

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

cdsmith.1072

100% agreed. I have been keeping informal track of the drops I get off of veterans and champions and they are not close to what they should be. 91% of the time even with some MF I get nothing.

I could be the soul target of the champion, dodging and evading my butt off while smacking them with a lot of damage and zip, zero, nada. The few times I have gotten a drop from one it has been a porous bone or two.

Now, here is how that affects me as a player. I don’t want to spend the time killing them. It isn’t worth it. I get far more drops and BETTER drops from smacking a chicken ONCE than spending the next minute chasing around a champ or a vet and getting nothing.

I think the problem is the participation algorithm. I think is is majorly broken and they just don’t know how to fix it. I can lay down thousands upon thousands of points of damage on a vet and NOT get credit for a vet kill in the dailies. I can have the vet obsessed with killing me and still not get credit. This points to a broken participation mechanism. ArenaNet had huge problems with this early in release where people would not even get experience for kills. They fixed that but they have not fixed it when it comes to drops.

First and foremost I think vets and champs should not drop junk ever. They are veterans and champions and they are not going to be carrying around a porous bone for Grenth’s sake!

The FIRST thing I would do is make a universal dungeon currency.

To deal with the issue of people doing what they perceive to be the easiest dungeon I would add rewards to the amount of currency obtained from a dungeon run based on different dungeons done in a day.

1 dungeon = standard reward
2 different dungeons, 2nd dungeon gives +10%
3 different dungeons 3rd dungeon gives + 20%
and so on.

On of the things I hate the most about most MMOs are the number of different currencies. If nothing else then a currency exchange would be wonderful. Even if it required a fairly large cost.

Online games are build around grind. If you don’t like grind don’t play online games.
In the end no one promised you nothing.

A grind isn’t the issue. I’ve completed the Sphere Grid from FFX. I really don’t mind a grind.

It’s the grind is so one-sided that the main focus is gaining Gold, Karma and Skillpoints. That doesn’t make for exciting game-play, in my eyes.

I’d much prefer it if the Legendary weapons needed you to do everything in game:

  • Get every Dungeon Gift
  • Complete every Event
  • Complete every Jumping Puzzle
  • Complete every Mini-Dungeon
  • Complete your Storyline
  • Get a bunch of Achievements (Survivor, Emergency Response Hero, Dungeon Master ect)
  • Max out every Crafting Profession
  • Add a book / achievement track that records when you complete a unique event, and have a requirement that you need to complete every event in the game.

Add more Achievement requirements, reduce the Resource Grind a bit to compensate, and then add story parts to it to explain the lore behind it along the journey.

Sure, it’s not mandatory, but mediocrity is a terrible fate. The process of creating a Legendary could be so much more.

I would like to see some combinations of the above. Your ideas are interesting and I think that having you have to accomplish more in the world is a good idea. I would also like to keep the resource ways to get certain Gifts.

Take maybe the Gift of Metal. Have two ways to get the GoM. One that is out in the world with achievements that would coincide with such a gift and the other would be the current way allowing people to use materials. That way a person could choose how to get the item needed.

How to report resource node teleport bots!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: cdsmith.1072

cdsmith.1072

And yet again these people are probably NOT teleporting in to collect the resource. They are most likely real people using a certain method to collect a resource.

I have one of my unused level 80 characters logged in at a resource node. I switch to him, collect my resources and then switch back to the character I am currently working on. So, it certainly looks like I just pop in, collect, and vanish but in no way is any exploit being used at all. There is no teleporting, there is no exploiting, just logging into that character, collecting and then logging out.

I am betting that is what you are seeing as it a a common way to collect certain items.

Clearly something is VERY wrong with how they are dealing with the DR on the events. It should have reset once the new Tixx adventure came up. What this tells me is “don’t help out your friends or you will get borked!”

You mean “add” points by playing and earning them, not buing them somehow, right?

Yes, you earn points in the HoM by playing Guild Wars 1. You can ‘buy’ points by trading for consumables for certain titles such as sweet-tooth or party animal but you have to get those items from other people in the game.

To get all of the HoM skins that are available, you have to get 30 out of 50 HoM points. That is not all that hard to do in fairly short period of time.

I wouldn’t say that. It is pretty time consuming. Depends how familiar you are with GW1. I’d say you are looking at months to go from 4 to 30 points.

True, not that short of a time but I am also equating it with playing Guild Wars 1 since Beta. On that time scale it really does not take all that long to get to 30/50. Besides, GW1 is still a lot of fun.

How many times did you run Tixx

in Wintersday

cdsmith.1072

3 times in The Grove and 1 time in Divinity’s Reach

Number 2 and 3 in The Grove I got some presents for the reward and just a few of the wool items from the chest.

In DR when I did my first run I got the 100 Cogs, Doll Frame and choice of Stuffing or Glue again but the chest gave me one sock. After that I am just not going to do Tixx more than once per town. Now I would certainly do Tixx if the reward was 10 Cogs per additional run or even if Cogs were something that would drop from the gift boxes. As it is there is no incentive to run Tixx more than once.

1. Checked my drivers for my Graphics card. No issues.
2. Rebooted my system
3. That did not fix the issues.
4. moved my GW2.DAT file to another location on my HD and Downloaded a new DAT file.
5. Started game and problem still evident
6. Rebooted again after getting new DAT file.
7. Have logged in multiple times and the lag is gone.

I cannot say for certain that the new DAT file and the reboot fixed the issue but it does have possibilities considering other people have solved the lag issue with new DAT files.

You know, that may be the biggest problem with GW2 at the moment. Just lots of very annoying things happening.

The monster resets are a great example of this. All that work for nothing and that is how it feels to me, work rather than fun. To sum it all up, ArenaNet, you have disappointed us.

1. Grind is everywhere.
2. Loot is nowhere.
3. Scaling Mechanics are NOT working
4. One hit kill bosses are a (bad) JOKE
5. Empty zones are making new people quit after a day because they cannot complete zones/challenges/etc.
6. Fracturing the player base with Fractals
7. Disconnections to the point that I do not even want to TRY my storyline
8. No Reconnect BACK INTO YOUR STORYLINE after disconnection (Heck, even GW1 eventually got that. It should have been built in from the start!)
9. Botched Events where people get kicked and never get to see it.
10. Botched Events where people are standing around waiting the see if they can get a lucky hit on an NPC when he goes agro.
11. Ignoring all the complaints and NO FEEDBACK!

Get the idea that I might be just a little bit angry? There are a lot of us out here that feel this way. Think you might want to take the blinders off and try fixing some of these issues?

I leave you with this thought (I’m sure you’ve heard it before, and I don’t mean to be redundant): if you feel the game right now is boring, grindy, and stale, but look forward to a day when it is not those things to you any longer- there’s nothing to be lost by simply taking a break until you hear about significant changes and then coming back and giving it a try. I don’t mean this at all in the “if you don’t like it, then don’t play it” sense- I mean that obviously you want to like it, but there’s no sense in having to strain to do so, and you’re not struggling to get your money’s worth at this point. You might like the direction things go one day, and you might not.

That pretty much sums it up for a lot of people that I know that used to play GW2. They have already become bored to tears with the content, drop rates and more. I have been told, If it gets better let me know. I worded that last part far more cleanly than some of the words my friends used. Some of those words described ending a physical position that I am sure is all but impossible to obtain and the people at ArenaNet…

Quick Mouse.7635, I can agree with everything that you have stated here. The things you have indicated need fixed ASAP.

It was absolutely insane to implement the tiered levels in Fractals. That just separates an already spread out community. I just got my Guardian to level 80. I spent at least a few hours in LA and did not see “LFG FotM lvl 1” pop up once.

I pity anyone buying the game now as they will be locked out of content as soon as they start. Add that to the ridiculously low precursor drop rate and there are huge problems with retaining people. I don’t know if ArenaNet has ever thought about something. If LOTS of people have precursors then a huge percentage of them would stick around to farm the needed items to upgrade them.

Arenanet vs Gold Sellers

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: cdsmith.1072

cdsmith.1072

It is a fine balance but one I feel that they have not addressed properly yet. There does need to be some MAJOR adjustment to rewards. Not just for the economy but so that people will feel rewarded.

In example, I did Balthazar last night. The mechanic is idiotic to begin with but it took us over an hour to bring him down and we only did so because his healing glitched twice. First and foremost this was NOT fun and nobody felt like they even accomplished anything because the only way to win it was to wait for a glitch.

Now on to the main point again. The end chest of this hour+ long fight dumped mostly greens for everyone. Not one person got even a yellow. The monetary reward was a few silver. That has to change. An hour long fight should reward far better than that just so that people are not asking “WT*, I did all that for this crap?”

We are fighting hard, high level bosses. A yellow should be a given and an exotic should be something that would drop from such a fight more than 50% of the time. Just doing that would lower many of the prices on the TP.

Considering how much it costs to finish off a legendary the drop rate for precursors should but multiplied by 10 at the bare minimum and the places they drop should be far and wide. I say this because people were so concerned that their precursors would lose value after they dropped from the Karka end chest. This did not happen. Prices went UP! All this shows is that it is still a sellers market

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

cdsmith.1072

I have cut way back on my playing because;

1. The events, the way the outlying NPCs were handled was atrocious. Stand around and wait with a mass of people to hope you get a hit on Noll that counts just to progress? Come on people, have all the creative brains at ArenaNet quit?

2. Yet more jumping paths in Fractals. This is not super mario brothers. There is no reason for the jumping paths. It is a stupid mechanism in my opinion.

3. LAG! Massive lag spikes, getting kicked from an over flow and never getting to see the ONE TIME ONLY EVENT.

4. One time only events. This is idiotic. It does NOT change the world enough to matter. Repeat the event several times during the day. A single day would be okay, not great but at least okay.

5. Drops, as in NONE. Sick of either not getting anything at all when I am with a zerg or getting junk on the few drops that I do get. Massive Dynamic Events just to get to the last champion and zip, nothing, nada, nil! Only way I ever get ANYTHING on a zerg is to hit a creature first. I have to deal with massive agro after that but I always get a drop then. The weird thing is I do LESS damage when I do that. Something if F-ed up with the participation meter.

6. PvP points needed for world map completion. BEYOND STUPID!

7. Chests of any kind, Black Lion or Consortium. WAY too expensive for the junk that they contain. Stop the Maple Story idiocy. Yes, we know what happened to the cash shop and who is really running it. Give us TANGIBLE goods that we know what we are buying.

Those are just the top 7. There are more. I am a long time Guild wars player from all the way back during the very first Beta Event of GW1. The crap that this game has become has disillusioned me on ArenaNet. It was not ready for prime time when it was released and they have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they cannot run the game they have.

I was very excited to play GW2 but now I am just angry and disappointed.

Sure exotic gear was worth it. Still is. I have full exotic on one of my characters and will get the updated armor as I can. It is not like the exotic armor just stops working or anything. It is not like I do not get the benefit from it in the time that I am going to own/keep it.

So new armor is coming out, I’ll get that too and I will be happy to get it. If more new armor or weapons or whatever comes out I will be happy to go get that also as I like new stuff. It is not like the addition of new things to the game forces me to pay a monthly fee or anything to go get it.

Just as the yellow rares were good and useful until you could use the exotics, the exotics are good and useful until you can upgrade to the next. My thoughts would be completely different if I had to pay a monthly fee.

I get what you are saying Yssta.8345. So do my friends. Then again we all knew what Guild Wars 2 was going to be before we bought it. We understood that it was going to be fun centric and not gear centric.

One of my friends that now plays GW2 was a top guild leader in WoW several years ago. So high up that she and her guild got to play test new content several times. She loves GW2! She has played many MMOs and been guild leader on many. Every day she is amazed at how good the content and the game in general is compared to anything else she has ever played.

There are going to be many people who just do not get it however. People like Loxias will think that something is poorly designed because it does not fit the mold that they were expecting. I really feel sorry for people that forget that games are supposed to be fun and not every game will be fun for everyone.

The same things were said about GW1 and it made ArenaNet a lot of money. I am sure GW2 will make them even more. I find myself logging on and wondering where 4 hours just went. Any game that can do that to an old and jaded gamer like me is a good game.

I had the low FPS problem right after I upgraded to the new nVidia 306.23 drivers. I dropped from 80+ FPS to in the 20s. That was in a low population area also. All I did was roll my drivers back to the earlier version and my FPS went back up to 80+

The strange thing is that I did not have a problem with the FPS and the new drivers until a few hours after I installed the drivers.
