1 More Second to Revealed is Useless Change

Changing the revealed buff from 3 seconds to 4 seconds is going to do nothing to fix the extensive thief problem in WvW. Now players have 4 seconds to drop a thief from 100% —> 0% instead of 3.

Oh, and don’t forget all haste has been dropped by 50%, so if you could drop a thief in 3 seconds using haste, you’ll probably need at least 6 now. Meanwhile, back in game, you get this stuff:

I’d challenge any ArenaNet developer come to this forum, watch these videos and explain exactly how this kind of gameplay is fun for anyone other than the thief.

It’s bad gameplay and there is no excuse for letting it persist as long as it has.

I heard talk on the reveal being placed on the end of stealth regardless of how stealth ended. It’s not in the patch notes so I take it that didn’t happen?

•Stealth: The duration of Revealed has been increased to 4 seconds when coming out of stealth via an attack.

Lol, so the thieves that stealth abuse can carry on as they wish but those actually using stealth to activate the more powerful attacks suffer a drop in dps. That’s kinda funny xD.

How does no culling + longer revealed debuff allow stealth abuse to continue…?

Every thief in the game will be visible for a minimum of 4 seconds when they come out of stealth to attack. If they’re not attacking, I couldn’t care less if I can see them or not.
If you cannot burst/stun a thief to death in 4 seconds then stealth is not why you’re losing.

Wrong. The most annoying thieves are the Dagger Off-Hand thieves. This nerfs their stealth capability considerably and makes it easier to kill or stun them before they can stealth again.

Pistol-offhand thieves can still maintain unlimited stealth, but they’re easy to deal with out of stealth.

Around the time of the lawsuit from Galoob, Nintendo tried to use other methods to thwart the Game Genie, using ROM checksums in later titles intended to detect the cheat modifications. That’s the part I don’t understand. All of these hacks are by definition client side, and ANet knows EXACTLY what the client application should look like. It seems to me that some simple code check (hell, even a parity check) should be able to tell whether or not somebody has modified their client. Why should that be so difficult? If somebody smarter than me knows what I’m missing here I’d appreciate being clued in.

They don’t modify any game files, they modify the memory. I’m not sure how it works, but memory editing cheats dates back to the ages of Game Genie or GameShark, except now they use specialized programs or CheatEngine.

Commander chat suppression

Eh, it’s not always bots. I’ve seen people run their mouth afoul in sPvP lobby or even sPvP games. It’s to prevent ranting.

However, a commander has to rant for people to pay attention. If the commander is ranting off-topic stuff, then people will report him.

Culling will be gone. WvW will change.

It may be subtle, but WvW will change from this. Zergs will be seen from a distance now charging to their destinations

I doubt you’ll be able to see players any farther than you currently can, but you will see the zerg when it’s up close. Culling and the distance of which sprites are drawn isn’t the same thing.

LOL the entire point of owning darkness falls in daoc was to make runs at the other realms entrance and own low levels.

Hey dark don’t worry about these haters, it’s fun to slam the scrubs out of existence. I’m just hoping that the new system will allow people to see which one of the 80’s are bads from the get go. There is plenty of 80s that are just complete trash, following around commander icons, fighting only when it is uneven numbers, and most if not all of them think “man, i’m good”, so don’t let these haters hate. i’ve frapsed an hacker saturday (he was able to reset fight in less then 2 seconds, and instant reengage ) and become unreachable (leaps /teleports on him were failing ) and he was able to hit me melle.
A-net answered in arround 2-3 hours to my email. that means they do care, but i cannot know if any actions were took against that hacker

The problem is ArenaNet won’t ban a hacker unless they can confirm it themselves. They’ll get reports of someone hacking, then send a GM to watch the hacker do his stuff.

Unless ArenaNet is employing 20,000 GMs, this process will take forever.

World of Warcraft has Warden. It’s automatic. You do some ridiculous thing like teleport around or speed hack, it catches you. You get banned in a few minutes of use. It watches 3rd party programs modifying memory of the game, which is how these hacks work.

Of course a lot of hackers may successfully petition themselves out of a ban, but it’s like the old saying goes: Shoot First, Ask Questions Later. (or Ban First, Petition Later)

I struggle devoting time to WvW because of these hackers. A single hacker can turn the tide of a battle. They teleport into a base and destroy all the siege weapons, making for easy assault.

I killed an invader and he sent me smack talking tells somehow. Not sure how he knew who I was. He didnt invite me into a group or anything.

It’s simple.

ArenaNet doesn’t want to show enemy names because they don’t want communication between sides, mainly harassment.

Yet there needs to be a way to report enemy players effectively.

Store a one-way hash of the anonymous enemy’s real name in the database record for the player, through a hash function such as MD5. Upon target selection show this MD5 in gray small text somewhere around the target frame.

Or show the anonymous enemy’s unique player ID, assuming ArenaNet would want to publicize that.

You cannot message a player by their MD5 hash or unique player ID, so problem solved.

1. Don’t suppress commanders.
2. Immediately stop the purchase of commander with gold. Previous commanders may still be commander.
3. Once you achieve a very high World Rank, allow the purchase of commander with badges or karma.

There are a lot of hackers in WvW. It’s a safe haven for hackers, because your name is anonymous to all enemies. Allies are less likely to report hackers on their team if they’re helping them win. Remember all the orb teleport BS? It was always the enemies who reported it, not that it did any good because the names were anonymous.

Level 2 teleport hackers are popping in and out to steal chests in puzzles. Speed hacks are rampant in sPvP and WvW.

Can we have a Warden now?

If my hypothetical super high ranked uber leet guild only wants other hypothetical super high ranked uber leet players, then why not? ArenaNet can’t force socialism on us.

Notice how in sPvP teams often are like: “Must have at least rank 30?” I don’t see anything in sPvP being done to condone that.

If they want people to play this game, They should of started Months ago at starting Small, at this point they can’t afford to do that.
I don’t think people grasp how badly this game would be doing if it was Subscription based.

The game is doing fine, but keep with the sensationalism (as these forums are great at).

Leaderboards themselves are useless unless they have info that people actually want to see.
See Camelot Herald as an example of things like….
Things like Solo kill count, IRS, Rank for your class ect ect..

Disagree, and ArenaNet needs to start small. Advanced statistics could always come later. Baby steps yo.

Leaderboard could be two flavors:

1. List of servers and their rankings.
2. List of players and their world rank.

Orbs in their previous form won’t return because of teleport hacks. ArenaNet can’t seem to handle teleport hacks like Blizzard can.

My suggestion that I’ve mentioned before is to divide the wealth of the orb. Instead of having one person carry the whole orb, have it so upon stealing an orb it breaks into 15 pieces that must be carried individually. This would add a fun dynamic and less likely to be exploited. You could even make it so once you’ve picked up the orb you get a debuff so you can’t touch another orb piece for 10 minutes, making it very hard for the teleport exploiter from carrying multiple pieces.

Another similar alternative is to just have 30 orbs total, and 10 orbs are equivalent to the old 1 orb.

The gist is to divide it to make it less powerful for a single teleporter to exploit.

Skill lag is never going away. WoW has had skill lag since Day 1, and still has it. You’d think if the king hasn’t figured it out, GW2 probably won’t.

Solo and team queue need to be two different ladders. In my opinion solo queue does not mean “casuals only” and it’s not like players who queue teams would not ever want to queue solo.

Solo ladder answers the question: “Who are the best sPvP players?”
Team ladder answers the question: “Who are the best teams?”

As a player I may want to compete in both ladders to achieve “best player status” and “best team” status.

They should not even start a match until teams are even. Longer queues are worth having evenly matched teams. It will mislead the ladders otherwise.

Can you make it so we can see enemy player names yet? There is no spirit and personal rivalry in WvW. No knowing who your worthy foes are. It would also make the zerg seem less like a bunch of faceless drones and give them more personality.

That’s actually a great point. That whole process is something we want to streamline/make better. Getting into tourneys, seeing your progress in them, etc.
It’s down the road, but it’s part of the plan.

Don’t forget separating PuGs and teams.

1. Remove the 3 round queue. Nobody plays this. It only serves to lengthen queue time of solo queue.
2. PuG only queue.
3. Team only queue.
4. ???
5. Profit.

It seemed to be implied there there is not enough population to support separate queues. If that is the case then sPvP is pretty much finished as a potential Esport.

There is more than enough population to support a PuG-only queue. It’s the teams that there are not. ArenaNet can’t accept that all their hard work would be for naught if team queuing died.

Instead, they mix PuGs with teams so PuGs are the bait to keep teams playing.

You’ll have all dps teams blowing each other out of the water in seconds.

Full DPS teams get blown out of the water in WoW arenas too.

Luckily WoW, and GW2, have these things called healing and damage mitigation that serve to increase survivability and lengthen fights. Rocket science, really.

Team deathmatch would work fine in GW2, it’s just a matter of ArenaNet not being lazy on innovation.

Were your opponents a premade? If PuGs only faced PuGs in tPvP there would be a lot less AFKers. People AFK because they see there’s no way in hell they’re going to win, so they do nothing so the game finishes sooner. As you mentioned, they can’t leave the game because tPvP throws you back in.

My statement still stands. The purpose of macros are to press multiple keys at once. If GW2 doesn’t want people to do that, then put all skills on a global cooldown when a skill is casting, a la elementalist attunement GCD.

Not going to happen. You can’t just ban people who use legitimate Logitech/Razer/etc. devices. Macros serve people with RSI issues too.

You’re suggesting ArenaNet ban macro users? So using a mouse or keyboard that supports macros (i.e. nearly every gaming mouse on the market) will get you banned? Yea, if you want to ban 1/4th of players, sure.
