Solo Que and Leaderboards

You guys need to stop complaining about solo que vs premades…

If you don’t want to play tournament style then don’t. If you solo queue then you do so at your own risk.

Smart thing to do would be to create a group and play that way if you can’t stand pug’s in tournaments.

Remember it is TOURNAMENT PVP. there is another sPVP you can go play.

Quit complaining about this. There are more important aspects we should be addressing. Like Class balancing, Rating system, etc….

You’re a tool. ThIs is by far the most important issue for tPvP aside from spectating.

Let me make it simple, kid. There are far more PuGers than there are premades. YOU are a minority. It makes zero sense for ArenaNet to cater to you. I have no doubt if ArenaNet could do it all over again from the beginning ArenaNet would wise up on the failed E-Sport dream and instead give us a solo queue and leave you very few premades players asking the question “Why can’t we have a premades queue?”

We all know the only reason kids like you want a single queue is so you can farm PUGs to make yourself look pro.

Solution is extremely simple. Put the player’s account name on the placed siege, under the target frame when targeting. Banning griefers will be a non-issue then and easy to report, and having your account name branded on your siege should deter any moron from grieving in this fashion lest face suspension.

WvW = Large team effort. Individual effort means less.
SPvP = Small team effort. Individual effort means more.

Different modes. It’s no wonder sPVPers don’t like WvW because their individual effort is not admired, and sPvPers have the most inflated egos. (The comments in this thread are proof of that)

Yes, the fade is suppose to make it look “misty”, but guess what? WvW is in The Mists too and it’s not faded at all and plenty vivid like Tyria and PVE is.

Learn to limit your frames people.

Only necessary if your computer is ill-equipped for temperature control. Understandable if you are on a budget.

If you know how to temp control, proper fans, airflow, heatsink, etc. and the card isn’t defunct (which it sounds like in the OP’s case), you don’t need to limit your frames. That would be like buying a sports car and not driving over 80 MPH (where legal) so you don’t overheat the engine.

I still think ranks should be attached to account. Not sure why sPvP is account but WvW isn’t.

A World Rank 50 player of WvW knows his WvW even if he starts a new character, he still should have some reputation carry over.

Anet plz be sensible…. give us back the 3 round tournaments…. team que only and solo que only at the 2team tournament…

3 round tournaments were pointless. They only served to split queues for no good reason. They were a negative influence to the evolution of sPvP.

With 1-round rated matches ArenaNet needs to:

1. Split Team Queue and Solo Queue. MUST BE DONE.
2. Re-enable map rotation.

Don’t use the term “zerg” out of WvW, please. It’s laughable. A group of 5-8 enemies is not a zerg.

Outnumbering an opponent is a sure way to ensure defeat, and is a perfectly viable strategy. Its drawbacks are inherent; if you concentrate your team in one area, then they are not defending other areas.. leaving those points susceptible to capture. It balances itself.

Were you monitoring temperature? Video cards have very high temperature threshold, more-so than CPUs. You must have been cooking that thing or it was defective to begin with in some way.

I run my GTX 580 and CPU on water, does wonders in the summer when temps are above 100F daily.

No you won’t. You’ll see a significant increase in players with imbalanced AoE builds (oh yay, originality!), and you’ll see zergs adapt by this magical amazing concept known as spreading out.

They need leaderboards for any of it to have merit.

World of Warcraft had excellent battleground leaderboards in its heyday (vanilla). Not sure how many people remembered the online leaderboards for its battlegrounds. Rank 1 – 14. Anything above Rank 6 was usually regarded a good player, and Rank 10+ were your cream of the crop. Of course by the end of the Rank 14 era you had a lot of win-trading, but for awhile it was a good indicator of ski—-oh who am I kidding it was a gear-based PvP game and more about time spent than skill, but it was still fun.

People zerged before. People zerg now. Ergo, WXP has nothing to do with it.

You only notice it now because you can actually see the entire zerg.

The only thing that will discourage zerging is to encourage smaller squads. Give benefits to smaller squads. The most obvious benefit would be to disable viewing of allies on the map, and only allow seeing squad allies if in a squad. You know, like any reputable FPS game with squads allows.

Some suggest buffing defense. Theoretically it may prevent cyclic cap trading, but it won’t do anything about the zerg. Instead the zerg will just pound the same tower/keep over and over until it either gives up and goes to another keep/tower, or it wins.

The best part is no subscription. You feel no obligation to continue playing or else feel like you’re wasting money. You can actually play other games, too.

Skill lag is different. What is likely happening is that when you use a skill, it goes into a queue on the server. Every game tick, the server goes through the entire queue and processes all the different effects, damages and heals and applies conditions to the right people, and so on. Skill lag happens when this queue gets too full. Since you can press the button for a skill and nothing happens (as opposed to it just taking a while to happen) it’s likely that if the queue gets too full they just throw away the overflowing ones because they don’t want to have to drop frames on the server.
So you get skill lag from too many people spamming skills no matter where they are on the map, but in big fights you still see their positions and health and such just fine.

This. People need to stop equating skill lag to lack of culling.

Also better hardware may not solve it. WoW has skill lag during patch weeks and big events, yet you’d think the millions Blizzard/Activision have they’d be able to solve it with better hardware.

It’s a combination of software design and hardware.

They never said it was an official sPvP patch. For some reason this forum thinks ArenaNet told them it was. Maybe it’s because this forum reads the patch notes and sees class changes, WHICH ARE IN EVERY PATCH BTW, and think “omg class changes, this must be a sPvP patch lulz”.

Copies sold is all that matters for this game. Any other metric to gauge success is utterly pointless for a non-subscription game.

Put it this way, the game could have absolutely empty servers but if millions of people were buying the game and then immediately throwing it in the fireplace, it wouldn’t matter. They still sold millions of copies.

Same goes for WoW. They could have 20 million subscribers, but zero players online at all times. They still have 20 million subscribers. That’s all that matters.

There are a lot of people playing WvW this patch. A lot of people, me included, have not bothered with WvW in ages because of culling.

The servers are hammered, thus skill lag. I play on one of the medium servers that hasn’t had WvW queues in ages, and we have queues now. Nuff said.

So the issue is with the server? I still don’t get the “more players playing now” argument because, as I stated before, I’ve played WvW pre-patch a ton and many times on server reset there are so many people in EB that you have a waitlist to enter. I’ve been in those battles and not experienced these issues and that was the MAX of players allowed into WvW. Now unless they increased the player limit for WvW, then something doesn’t add up. I’m not getting waitlisted now. The only other possibility is that WXP farming has encouraged these mindless mega-zergs and WvW has never had this many players running around as one unit and the server just can’t handle it.

You have no idea how many players are playing now compared to before, only ArenaNet knows, and I imagine there are a ton more playing because we just had the most highly anticipated WvW patch since ever. You can hypothesize all you want, but it’s just anecdotal evidence you’re going off of.

Regardless, culling has nothing to do with skill lag. Even the king of MMOs, World of Warcraft, hasn’t figured out skill-lag in its near decade of existence. Blizzard with all the money they have can’t figure it out. It plagues MMOs. It’s simply a hardware problem that apparently throwing money can’t fix. (I remember insane skill lag in 25 man raiding in WoW during patch weeks, even those were 25-man instances! How did we have skill lag when there were only 25 players? Because it’s server-side)

This is how the game works now – you gather everyone inot one uberblob and charge round as one chain capping.

We just lost a fully upgraded and sieged up keep in < 2m to a blob of around 120. Nothing you could do to stop them now.

Game is officially broken. GG ANET you really screwed this one up.

Nothing has changed with the zerg, except now you can see them.

I don’t like the culling changes. Showing bodies is fine. Now there is just too much text on the screen. I would rather they just disable name tags on everything on WVW unless you click on someone. Just use team colors to tell friend or foe. I don’t really care who the person is that Im killing.

Uh, just turn off names? I thought the hover thing is how it currently works, or maybe it’s only upon target.

Name tags are kind of obscene with that many players, although I guess it’s that way in any MMO.

Maybe they could make them less large though.

Edit – Scale name tags so the farther away the smaller the tag becomes.

They blew it from the start. Any game that really wants to let their players advertise their game on Twitch should make streaming to Twitch built-in.

I literally should only need to go to Options -> Streaming -> Enter my Twitch details -> Start Stream, and BAM I am streaming to Twitch. No need for 3rd party software unless I want advanced streaming.

This would up the streaming count considerably. Whether it would up the viewer count is hard to say, as a stream needs to actually be entertaining to have viewers. That is the caster needs to have personality.

You could say banning Kripp and offending him was the real end of streaming for GW2. That guy was bringing thousands of viewers.

Ratings and leaderboards aren’t the same thing.

Leaderboards probably factor a variety of metrics to determine who is top, and maybe ratings is one of them? Ratings are simply used for matchmaking.

I wish they would at least give us a bone as to when leaderboards will be visible! Next month? Next year?

What I want to know is if big groups will still phase in right on top of you or if you’ll actually see them load in from far away.

Single players were phasing in 20 feet away every single time. In fact, that was pretty much the norm in WvW for weeks. Is this finally fixed? Or does this change mean this stupidity still happens but now we can have more people on screen?

I think they fixed that too. I mean, in that screenshot I am seeing people on the walls, much further than 20 feet.

Someone post a screenshot of the max distance at which you can see the zerg.

If you’re on defense you’re better off using an arrowcart, but I suppose if there are only few arrowcarts or none at all, then it’s better than nothing.
