As for guards wall of reflection devs will have hard times to balance this nub skill.
2 guards can for example end lupicus stage 2 in 10s.
A good mesmer can do that in 2-3 seconds. But i guess you would consider him a noob…

From what I experienced reading the forums, there are 2 overused topics (not counting idiots) :
1. People that do 1 dungeon per week come here and whine about skipping or smart and legit tactics that makes a speed run possible.
2. The same people, when trying to farm a dungeons, whine because it takes too long and its very hard. Bring the nerf hammer!
These two topics are cluttering the forums, proving that smart players are getting harder and harder to find.
Is this an issue? Thoughts?
That’s how i read the OP.

Most of the time you stack to LoS or because its a safe spot. Other than that I dont see any other reason to do it, because most of the time bosses or even elite mobs have cleave, thus resulting in everyone taking damage.
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
Did it with 5 torches, did it with 3, all the same to me. If you can’t pull this up as a team, then you sure can’t do swamp fractal either or the laser part in CoE or any other content that requires a bit of coordination.
As for the bomb tunnel, simply double dodge at the end, easy peasy.
The end boss is annoying tho, becoming invulnerable so often only prolongs the fight, doesn’t make it any harder or fun.

Wonder if the players who seem to have issues with skipping trash would say the same after they ran each dungeon 10+ times.

You should level up in arah…

The fact that you managed to find a group that carried you through a fractal run doesn’t make it a viable way to level. Fractals were designed for level 80 groups.

Monster hunter isn’t the only game that has dodge mechanic. A good example is the souls series (demon souls and dark souls)…

We had them in story before launch, but what we found is that we couldn’t strike a balance between the amount we give for completing story mode, and the difficult difference. Our feedback was that rather than face the challenge of Explorable dungeons, high skill groups would just afk faceroll the much easier story mode content for the guaranteed smaller token amount. We tried several things, but couldn’t strike the balance, so we removed tokens from story mode as a reward and put them into explorable mode only as a reward.
With the current DR system, it cant be farmed more than an expl path. Adding the fact that most story modes are a bit longer than the exp ones, i can’t see them being over farmed.
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
Either make story mode reward tokens upon completion or remove the need for story to be able to enter in explorable.
I get why there is story mode, some people want to learn about the lore in the game. But some people don’t. I did all stories for the achiev, but i skipped all cinematics and just storm through, because all i really wanted was the achiev and to be able to enter in exp mode.
The fact that i need to redo the story mode on every alt, just to be able to start a dungeon in exp mode feels a bit tedious and forced. Remove the requirement for story or give story token rewards in par with a exp path, this way at least i can get something from redoing it over and over.

It’s not the first time this has happened and it won’t be the last. I hope the devs do something about this, it sucks real bad when it happens.
Dont think that the problem is on the devs’ side, to be honest. Is it that hard to read what item you buy before pressing the button?
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
Is this even a real issue?

Also, does swapping characters now boot the entire party from the dungeon? As we were all booted when one of our members DC’ed and logged back in on another character.
Maybe he was the one that started the dungeon? Because if the person who started the dungeon dc/s you dont get kicked. Only if his char gets out of the instance (just like swapping).
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
Arah is fun when you do it for the first time, with a team that takes its time to learn the path and encounters. Doesn’t matter if it takes 4 hours, its something new and exciting.
But after that, when you already know all the paths and you start skipping 90% of the dungeon it becomes just like any other dungeon. It is a bit better if you have a guild group and do it with them, because you can communicate and get along better. It gets worse when you pug it with “experienced” people that will only want you to do the bosses using glitches, because if you want it to do it legit, they will insta die and will call you noob and rage quit. The same “experienced” people that if you ask them to do something other than p3, will just say no, because they havent done any other path. Just fun all over the place.
But even with all this bull**it, lupicus remains my favorite boss in the game. That feeling that you get when you kill him with complete strangers in your party, including newbies, its priceless.

They are working on an ingame lfg tool, as some devs already mentioned it. Meanwhile, gw2lfg.com is your best bet to find a group.
The problem with the tokens isnt the fact that they are different for each dungeon, but the fact that the tokens waste inventory and bank space. There are more ways to fix this: 1. make them currency (like gold or karma), increase the stack limit (from 250 to 4-5k dont know) or make a collectible tab for them (also with an increased stack limit, cuz if its still 250 as the rest of the collectibles, it will be useless).
Kicking from dungeon when the leader leaves, yea it is a problem, but they already said they are looking into it.

If you still need help, whisper me in game between 9:00 pm and 2:00 am GMT+2 on most days and if i’m not engaged in some other dungeon or fractal i will help you.
A full AC run (1+2+3) should be done in about 1 hour and i think that will help you greatly for your monthly achiev.

The app will have to be endorsed by anet otherwise no one will give their account information to a 3rd party app. Also it should be free to use, as i don’t think anet will want to charge extra for this app due to marketing reasons.

You keep saying things with such a passion that I’m starting to think you actually consider this game your second reality. This is just a game! Why do you try to force people to play in a certain way?
If i want to power level my alt through dungeons while also contributing to that dungeon with my main, i will do it. I dont understand why so much drama on this subject.
Just play the game the way you enjoy it and let others do the same.
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
My personal opinion: you favor alt-swapping so I don’t really care what you think. Alt-swapping, in my opinion, is cheating because the character did no work to get any rewards…. bla bla bla…
Think of it this way: the character did no effort for that reward, the player did! So if I, the player, do the effort to finish a dungeon and then choose to distribute that reward/experience to another character that belongs to me, you think i exploit?
What is wrong with you ppl?
Also, the alt swapping is generally used only on easy bosses, like you find in AC, TA or any other almost afk boss. Also it is used in arah, after you kill lupicus in path3, you can bring another 80 alt for the last boss because its that easy. I have no problem when people swap alts if they contributed to the dungeon before that. I dont even request a heads up as long as that person has common sense.
Another thing is the fact that most “elitists” dont even want to group with someone who is not 80, even for AC! So how can a player level up an alt through dungeons when finding a group for a sub 80 char is that hard? He does it with his main and then he swaps his alt for the last 20% of the boss. Plus the whole dungeon run is a bit faster because you do it with a 80 and not with a lowbie. Its a win win situation.

Did it once with 4 guardians and 1 mesmer. Was fun!
But yeah, i’ve done with 4/1 comp and i’ve done with all random classes. I dont really care what class you are if you know the drill. Sometimes its faster to go with less damage classes then it is to go with full zerk warriors that die in 1shot from the boss or other mob and u have to constantly ress them.
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
I’m going to run this marathon, but all you do is run so I’m going to use a shortcut, because running is just boring.
Since we are doing analogies here, then i guess you would find very fun and entertaining if the entire Olympic Games would be just marathons. Nothing else… just this.

.
And sometime exploits aren’t making things faster at all like in SE p1 or AC stairs.
I’m not talking about “lazy” exploits. The AC stairs one was a kitten one. That boss is so easy why would you want to fight him only ranged and make the fight last 3 times longer is beyond me. Used it only once, because the 4 other guys didnt want it to do it melee.
It’s the same in Arah p3 first boss, people used to climb a rock and take him down with ranged attacks. Its way easier and faster if some1 takes the hunter away so the other 4 can focus the main boss. These kind of exploits are stupid to say at least.
But for example, take the Ooze boss from arah p1. If you do it legit way, then it becomes a kiteing fest and most of the time people will get knocked down and it takes too dam long to kill it, because the stability will only take you so far. If you exploit it, the fight becomes 2-3 times faster. Not easier, its easy to do it the legit way because the damage that the boss deals is trivial, but it takes longer.
See where i’m heading?
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
Happened to me last night. Reset in the first part of phase 2, we were all up, some melee some ranged, he gets full HP in a second and starts attacking again (with full HP in phase 2, thats fked up). We had to do a proper reset after that.
Its not so much of a problem as this happened just this time. The bigger problem here is when he start using that bubble again and again and again and again. As a guardian, i need to keep the aggro on me so the rest of the team can dps or ress if anyone goes down. But when he uses the bubble 4 times in a row on me, all my cd’s are burned and i get killed, this usually resulting in a party wipe. And this started to happen more often after the Jan 28 patch.
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
Someone pointed out Mossman. Despite him being a fairly easy boss (follow the minimap and poke him with your shortbow when(/if) he goes out of stealth (I play a thief)), when someone showed me a new “exploit”, I was overjoyed. Why?
Well, he’s just very poorly designed. 10 second stealths (where he is invulnerable) followed by a oneshot attack, and 3 seconds of visibility (if we’re lucky), then 10 more seconds of stealth, etc etc. Without the exploit, he takes anywhere from 20 minutes (that’s perfect play), to an hour, and it’s not challenging and nor is it fun. It’s just tedious. So of course, when someone showed me a new exploit, I tried it. And every time I run fractals and Mossman with a pick-up group, I’m extremely tempted to suggest that we exploit just because of the poor design of the boss.
This ^ I agree 100%
There are some bosses in this game that are not hard, but take a very long time to kill. When using an exploit, the majority of people dont do it because they can’t kill the boss in the legit way, they do it because its faster!
So all this exploit hunt and all of you that say exploits are bad and ruining the game, please reconsider. I’m not saying that exploits are something good or that everyone should use them, but the fact that the exploits generally do the fights faster not easier its something to think about.
The devs should consider this and not only fix the exploits but think about why the people use them. If a boss its easy but has a lot of HP and goes invis half the time, or uses a single skill very often, this boss is not a challenge, its simply boring. So if it takes an exploit to kill it faster, why not?
Bottom line… don’t just fix exploits, try and think why the players use them. If they want to make the fight shorter, maybe reduce the boss hp? I enjoy a good challenge, i wouldn’t change Lupicus because its challenging and its fun. I would change Alpha tho, because its plain stupid.

After the Jan 28 patch they fixed the sparks a bit and it was a bit easier (like it should be!) to pull the sparks in their place. But now, after the fixed the 4-1 trick (without announcing it) it seems the sparks behave even worse then before the Jan 28 patch.
For them to get in place you need to walk them over that spot over and over again so you at least have a chance at it.
Also, i’ve noticed in my last Simin fight, you can actually bug it out (dont know exactly how, but it happened twice) by bringing only 2 sparks (the north ones) and he sometimes appears after only those sparks are in place (without being fully healed!).
I don’t really care about this path now, i’ve done my DM achiev and i’m not gonna farm P4 because its very long, but still, they should fix this fight.
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
I used a spreadsheet to check which paths i still need to complete for DM achiev.
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
PS: Sparks still bugs sometimes, and please, please stop makingthem aggro on PETs!!!! Rangers are banned from this fight because it is just too much of a pain. Same for necro pets, same for rune pets and all kind of stuff we don’t really control.
Tried to help a party last night with a ranger and mesmer. When running sparks, the ranger’s pets kept aggroing them (after asking him he still didnt consider to put it on passive) and the mesmer didnt even shattered his dam clones. Was a total mess. But still, the fact that the sparks still aggro the pets or clones is not good.
Also… did they fixed the 4-1 trick? Last night it didnt seemed to work anymore and another friend of mine said the same thing when he did it with his party. Stealth fix?

Hello,
With the characters mechanic in GW2, where almost everything is account range, and people having so many alts, its getting hard to keep track who’s who. So when someone from guild makes a new alt and types in chat, i need to hit G, look at the account name and then figure who am i talking to.
I would like an option to toggle character or account name display in chat. This, along with the already existing nickname function would be best. I could use the nickname to remove the whole number after the account name, and then toggle the account name in guild chat. This way, it doesnt matter what character s/he plays, i can always see who am i talking to.
Dont think its that hard, but would be really great.
Cheers!

Trying to keep an uncontrollable NPC alive for a whole dungeon run or else restart. This must be the worst idea on the whole forum. I wont comment on the rest of the post, as there are no good ideas.
When most people are having a hard time to coordinate in a 5 man group (look at simin fight) you want some crazy coordination of 15 people doing 15 things all at once.
Enough said…
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
+1 for the story mode account bound, or at least make it so that it rewards 60 tokens only once, so it wont be farmed like a 4th path.

I can help you with AC runs if you need. Im on EU servers and i usually do all 3 paths daily to raise my alts. Give me a sign if you want help and you are on EU.

Tokens should be considered currency and have their own tab in hero panel. The way they are implemented now is just bad.
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
If you dont hit DR, you’ll get 60.
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
Tho the 2nd point is not related to the title of the topic, i must agree with it.
With the actual GW2 system, when everything is account range, we should be able to at least have an option to display the account name and not the char name. The nickname in the friend list is not enough. When people have so many alts, its quite hard to keep track who’s who if your not looking all the time in guild panel.
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
People didn’t misunderstand your point they are flat out disagreeing with you.
How can you agree or disagree a question? I’ll let you think on that… its ok, take your time.
When i started this thread, i wanted to know others people opinion on this particular dungeon, with this particular design. If the enjoy it or not. And if they enjoy it, why? But most of you jumped to the conclusion that i dont like the dungeon because its hard and i can’t dodge. Seems a bit off to me.

A simple AR check should do the trick. Below lvl 10 can be joined by all. You want to join a lvl 16, then ping your asc rings. If you dont have any AR, you won’t join. Simple as that.
Tho this wont be a problem solver, as i had a player last night, in a lvl 18 fractal who had 20 AR and was on the floor most of the time. But that’s the beauty of pugs, you never know what kind of players u end up with.
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]

Ok, its clearly people misunderstood my point. All of you give tips about dodging the red circles and that its an easy boss. I haven’t said its a hard boss or i can’t dodge. The only time i have been downed by this boss was on the first encounter, when i didnt had a clue of what this boss does.
My point was that this is the single dungeon that its designed to fight the same boss 3 times per path, for a total of 9 times if you want to do all 3 paths at once. This along with the high HP pool he has is my problem with this dungeon. Its not even a challenge. You simply have to fight this thing for 5-10 min x 3 per path.
You guys said that the destroyer fight sucks. That was the only thing i enjoyed from all this dungeon. Its not that hard, but its a change of pace. Making 3 people coordinate and not able to fight 100% and only rely on 2 people to kill the boss its something new and fun, for me at least.
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
I’m not saying its easy or hard. That aoe its very easy to dodge, unless your in a crystal and your team doesn’t start to dps that. But to fight him 3 times per path is more than boring.
And to say he has different attacks in every path… pfff give me a break. It all goes down to that big aoe. The other attack doesnt even count.
But then again, i guess some of you would preffer to fight the spider from AC 3 times per path, plus the other bosses from that path. That would be cool, right? Or the worm from TA, or any other boring boss from a dungeon. See where im going?
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
(edited by codpin.6542)
I mean, how can you farm it, when you have to fight the SAME boss NINE times?
How is that creative? How is that fun? In any other dungeon, you have different bosses in different paths. Not in CoE. Almost half the dungeon is the same on every path, plus you have the Alpha you need to fight 9 times. kitten
And from a lore perspective, you fight in an inquest base. Those suckers are inventors and scientists. They could invent anything. Even if u would fight a robot elephant it wouldn’t be out if place, because thats what they do… experiment and invent. Hell, you could fight a giant snail with legs or any other stupid thing. Why the same boss 9 times?
And its a dam pity, because on path 3, that cannon fight its really nice. Its something different from all the other simple mechanics.
I’m actually happy I dont like any armor or weapon from this dungeon, because farming this would be impossible for me.

If you have a mesmer in your party, ask him/her to use the portal so you can all go in faster.
Other than that, mesmer or not, 3 players should get close to the wisps, the other 2 should support with buffs the ones that are further away, or with more mobs close by and you should start a countdown before picking them up. With a bit of coordination this shouldnt take more then a few tries.
Also, another good advice, dont run flat on the ground, keep jumping so you have less chance to spring any traps. Or, when a gap closes, with those tree like things, try to jump over it. All these things are jumpable, you only need to find the place where to do it.
Hope that helped.
Cheers!

Slightly off topic here but… is DR character or account specific?
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
(edited by codpin.6542)
As a Demon Souls and Dark Souls player I can tell you that GW2 is way easier.
They all have a rather steep learning curve, but once you get used to them, you realise GW2 is way easier than Souls series.
Why do I say that? Well, after you learn to dodge and use your skills, you are able to get away with most of the things in GW2, but not in Souls. You can skip almost all trash mobs or get hit repeatedly and still get away in GW2. Try running through a bunch of mobs in Souls… you’ll get stun locked even by the most low lvl enemies. Unless you are full heavy armor with lots of poise, in which case you won’t have the speed to run through them. And this is only one aspect.
Healing is another, you can basically heal infinite times in GW2, not in Souls tho. After you burn through your flasks, you need to start using humanity, which has a longer cast time and is not so easy to come by.
And you can take all this into consideration IF they could be compared. But its unlikely. You can’t compare games like Souls, that have a well thought and implemented combat and reward system with a mmo that is more action oriented and is in any and every way more easy.
LE: maybe i’ve misread the OP, in the way that he says this game FEELS like, which is not a direct comparison. But in the same way, you could compare playing Tetris, upside down, with Dark Souls.

By that logic we should never give suggestions.
Wrong. You simply have to admit that this is a game and you should enjoy the parts of it that you already like, not whining on the forums all day.
For god’s sake, try for once and see the positive things in this game. If you can’t see any, then maybe this isnt the game for you.

The whole point of kicking is that the kicked player is stripped of all the benefits of that encounter/dungeon/fractal, because if you get kicked it means that you were an a**hole and deserved no reward whatsoever. That is the good thing about kicking.
The bad thing comes from the implementation of the kicking system in GW2. As it is now, you can kick a player with only 2 votes. This is crap. There should be 4 votes and the whole thing can be easily avoided.
What you say above, never happened to me but I can imagine the frustration that comes along. Untill ANet fixes the kick system, going with pugs will be a risk.
Member of ASq Guild – Gandara [EU]
I couldn’t agree more. FotM doesn’t any extra reasons to run.
Make daily requirements a choice of 4/5 with specific dungeons as an added option. The dungeon would change on each day.
You gotta love a comment about dailies on a thread about monthly achiev.

It happened to me at Kholer and some other boss fights. With so many damage effects on the boss (like fire from guardian F1) you can’t see some of the bosses animations. Don’t know if this is bad design or intended, but i see it being a problem for new comers that aren’t aware of all the boss animations.

So you basically can make how many fractals per day you want and still get the full rewards? And raise in level?
