I’m also experiencing this now. There has been no exit prompt, I believe since the patch last night. I did the Braham Living Story missions last evening and they functioned fine. However, tonight I’ve repeated those missions and done the first Rox mission, and none of the instances have given me an exit prompt. The only way out is to waypoint.

Is getting an exotic item from a Fractals chest that is Account Bound WAI, or is this a bug. I filed a bug report, I see another thread in which players seem to think it is working as intended. It’s the ‘account bound’ part I’m questioning.

So, I want to say thanks to the folks from Maguuma and from my own server that I engaged in a pretty interesting discussion with about the current state of the tiers. Unfortunately, our interchange digressed, very briefly, into an off topic conversation. The official reaction to that was the last straw for me, I’m afraid, regarding the official forums. I might check the bug forum for useful info, but that will be about it. No, you cannot have my stuff; I’ll still be using it in game!
But before I wander off into obscurity, I want to give a shout out to Dragonbrand. You are the quintessential example of rank not proving skill. You guys are terrific, and highly underrated. Unfortunately, this will be a busy week, and the week after I probably won’t be in game at all, but I’m hoping that with the limited time I have I’ll be able to get a group of roamers together on DBBL so we can clash with you in some smaller scale battles (in which I will be crushed, but hey, how else will I learn? )
/salute to both our opponents this week.

P.S.: BG has their own Sailor [Moon] team. Perhaps, it’s time for TC to have one, too. Don’t you agree
LOL. That was hysterical! Thanks, you guys. Also, the TC guild is [MOON], all caps.

Nah…
SoS will probably fall below T3 and DB/Mag/YB will most likely be the semi stable T3.
That’s interesting. Is SoS continuing to lose guilds? And do you think a DB/Mag/YB match is likely to be a close and competitive one? I don’t think I’ve ever played against YB, although I’ve heard nothing but good things about them from my fellow TCers.

Here you go, Divine. Sorry it’s so boring, but my breakfast is waiting for me. No time for the artz (and we still have queues so I can’t get in and give you a map update).
“Worshipping nonsense and imagination” — Hayden Herrera (paraphrased)
Mag BL tonight had a queue bug, I think. We had probably 40 Legion players in TC BL, and enough randoms to make a queue, and when I heard Mag BL was outmanned, I tried to move over the 40 Legion, but we only got about 10 in… and had 30 total players on Mag BL while DB had the same number but had the outmanned buff… so TC had at least double us, probably 60+, and we just gave up.
Yeah, the MGBL queue was messed up. It filled up almost immediately. I finally got in probably close to an hour later (I’m guessing on the time. I didn’t really keep track.) only to have the map crash. Then I queued up again and eventually got back in. During that time, a person I was teamed with never got in. I got in twice in the time it took them to eventually join, which was quite a while later.
Anyways, could we stop with the off-topic/probably copyright infringing cartoons?
Whether or not they’re copyright infringing depends on the laws of the country these forums are governed by. Under U.S. law, not infringing. Sadly, at least in the U.S. that doesn’t stop companies from using the power of their name and the fear it can evoke to bully individuals and smaller organizations, all the time, into not engaging in the Fair Use of their media. But I digress. Back to the WvW talk!

Minor thing, but I notice that if I don’t select any achievements to track, the game seems to fill in the upper corner of my screen with a random assortment of Dailies, or Monthlies, if my Dailies are complete. I would have expected to have no achievements show up there, since I have none checked.

You TC guys make me smile! Don’t worry too much about the Mag forum warriors. They’re the grumpiest bunch I have encountered so far. Maybe you guys can rub off on them.
I think it’s pretty safe to say we’re not worried. Best of luck to our new opponents. Looking forward to meeting you on the field to stomp or be stomped.
On an unrelated note, I understand that discussions of Enterprise Resource Planning are verboten on these forums? Could this possibly be true? I’m not quite sure how we TC roleplayers will make it through a week without being allowed to integrate our information in new and creative ways.

Sorry to sound dumb
But what do you mean by role players in GW2? I ask because it is an RPG game and every time I log into the game I consider my self to be “role playing”, wheather I am running a dungeon, fractal, crafting, playing story mode or taking part in any dynamic event. I also consider everyone else who logs into the game to be role playing as that is exactly what they are doing, playing a “role playing game”.
So what is it that you consider to be role playing exactly? What is it you do in these taverns?
Thanks
You don’t sound dumb. It’s a good question, and I think TottWriter gave a very good answer, but I’d like to expand on it a bit. I often think that in discussions about roleplaying (in an MMO, specifically), people are talking about two different things.
Person A may be talking about what I think of as roleplaying ‘with the game’ as opposed to with other people. It’s the type of roleplaying that you’re doing in a single player RPG and that the personal storyline in GW2 was obviously designed for. You are the protagonist playing through a linear story where the game itself is largely defining your character for you. It tends to be a somewhat solitary endeavor, although there are creative ways that people can come up with to include others in their own personal story progression. I suspect this is what you’re describing when you say that you always feel like you’re roleplaying.
Person B may be talking about roleplaying with other players in an interactive and dynamic way, and where the setting informs your character, but does not define him or her; you do that yourself. Of course, our characters are always the stars of their own stories, but when interacting with others, in a shared setting, it can become a little more difficult to incorporate the elements of a linear storyline. Players will often make up their own stories and adventures that are smaller and more personal than the overriding story the game provides, and that can reasonably include other characters without the need to explain how it is that we are all the second in command of the Pact or deal with wonky leaps in time (i.e. Zhaitan is dead for one character, but not yet dead for another). I suspect this is also why you’ll often see a lot of ‘small talk’ happening when you encounter RP in the wild, and also why a lot of RP tends to focus on romance or other interpersonal relationships; after all ‘getting to know others’ is what we naturally do and fits into pretty much any setting and genre.
Okay, that last point was a little weak, but I hope I mostly got across what I was trying to say.

You absolutely could have made such a thread. In fact, I encourage you to do so. And if you say, in that thread, that you should get map entry priority over me, when I am guesting on your server, I will agree with you 100%.

I don’t mind the multiple currencies, but I hate the currencies that take up inventory space.
Make it so it doesn’t take up inventory space and you can make as many currencies as you want, Anet.
I’m with you. I don’t have any use for them, except for the ones I’ll need if I ever do go for that Legendary, so being able to get them into materials storage, or making them a no-space currency, would be great. I also like the idea somebody mentioned in the thread of being able to trade them in for laurels. Or just add some things to the vendors that can be bought with a few tokens, rather than dozens, to clean up those stragglers people get left with.

Yeah, I’m another one who dual boots Linux/Windows just so my games will run well (and currently only using the Win side for GW2). I’d love a native Linux client. I don’t honestly see it happening anytime soon, as I suspect we still represent a very, very small percentage of the game’s users, but I’d love it.
“Worshipping nonsense and imagination” — Hayden Herrera (paraphrased)
I think this has been suggested before, but it warrants being brought up again, IMO. Anet, please consider the following enhancements.
- Allow chat to be logged to text files
- Enable copying from the chat window
- Increase the size of the chat buffer (possibly not needed if allowing the logging of chat were implemented)
I think these would be positive, or at worst, neutral, changes for everybody; I can’t think of anybody they would present a hindrance to. They would be enormously beneficial to RPers (go back and look at your logs, if you choose to log your chats, and see what you talked about the last time you met). Even if you don’t RP, there may fairly frequently be conversations going on that you can’t keep up with at the time, but would like to review after the fact. I am fortunate to belong to an active guild, and this happens to me constantly (losing the first half of a conversation because it went out of my buffer). Thoughts, fellow players? Anybody for or against?

The only question I have is, what exactly is the effect on the community for these people whose only apparent interest is wandering from event to event? Does it hurt anyone?
At Claw of Jormag the other night, the level of lag was, in my experience, unprecedented in PvE. The only place I had ever previously experienced lag so bad that you couldn’t trigger skills was in the Lord’s room in Stonemist. There were many, many more people in the zone than is typical, and I see this all over the world. Of course, having more people around is not necessarily a bad thing, but it becomes one when you have so many that it affects gameplay.
As for the community effects, specifically, there were anecdotes in the thread Cross started relating incidents of cross-server chat trolling and general abuse. I haven’t experienced that, personally, and frankly, if I ever did, I wouldn’t for very long (hooray for blocking), but I can understand where it could be upsetting.
Regarding the idea of selling invites for coin, yeah, I also had that thought. I think it would happen, but I doubt that everyone who currently now chases events across servers would be willing to pay for that, so I’d still expect to see some decrease in the behavior. Or perhaps they’d shop for the cheapest price, in which case I guess I’d just have to hope my server wasn’t offering it.
“Worshipping nonsense and imagination” — Hayden Herrera (paraphrased)
Guesting implies a temporary stay. Guesting to a server should only work for 24 hours as a trial period. After 24 hours, you are locked out of guesting to that world for 30 days.
I mean really, how was this issue not foreseen?
Another alternative might be that to “guest” on a server, you need to be invited by someone who is on that server. After all, there is a different between inviting a guest into your home and a random hobo from off the street who just steps through your door and starts raiding your fridge.
That’s actually how I had assumed it was going to work. It was always described as a feature designed to allow people to play with their friends no matter what server they were on. It seem like an invite feature would be perfectly in keeping with that stated goal. And then people could sell server invitations for gold…Oh…wait…I’ve said too much…

Hmm, that seems like a bug. It was intended that you could interrupt the howl that caused the rocks to fall. I’ll send that over to our QA and get it verified.
Can you please work with the design team on adding some kind of debuff or visual cue for when mobs are easily interrupted? Players have a very poor understanding of the Unshakable/Defiant system in the first place, and unexplained exceptions to the rules only make this problem worse.
I recently wrote a lengthy blog post about how Defiant works that was frontpaged on /r/guildwars2 over the weekend without my personal involvement. Clearly, the community is hungry for more information on how to effectively crowd control bosses.
http://maleficincantations.com/2013/02/21/defying-explanation/
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/195cxl/defying_explanation_how_defiant_and_unshakeable/
That is a fantastic blog post. Thank you for that. One question though. In GW1, a skill that was easily interruptible would be interrupted by any successful attack. Your blog post implies that you still must use a CC skill to interrupt an easily interruptible action. Am I reading that right? So if Colossus is indeed intended to be easily interruptible, my Concussion Shot (Daze) should have worked, but none of my other shortbow skills (no CC) would have. Is that correct?
“Worshipping nonsense and imagination” — Hayden Herrera (paraphrased)
I can also verify the issue the OP, and others, report. My group was not able to interrupt the rock fall attack. We spent quite a bit of time experimenting to see if we could find a safe zone in the room, but could not. The rocks fall even in the corridor that you come down to enter the room. We eventually succeeded using what is apparently the intended method of huddling under Grast’s shield when the rocks fall.
I’ll add that I’m somewhat perversely pleased that there may be a bug involved here. I’m very much not a fan of “there is only one solution and the ‘challenge’ is to find it.” Apparently there are supposed to be at least two, based on Mr. Hrouda’s reply. I’d be even more pleased if the scenario allowed for players to come up with multiple creative solutions or use a variety of tactics to defeat it. And maybe they will. Could be that team composition makes a difference, or that there are simply solutions we didn’t think of. I really hope so. Otherwise, that’s going to be a pretty dull encounter once you’ve mastered “the trick.”

Five characters: Ranger, Mesmer, Thief, Engineer, Elementalist
In terms of most fun to level, I think it’s gone like this:
Ranger > Mesmer > Engineer > Thief > Elementalist
I enjoy them all but I’d say the Mesmer/Engi/Thief are pretty closely grouped, while there are big differences between the top and bottom classes. Ranger has been, by far, the most enjoyable for me and Ele, by far, the most trying. So perhaps it should look more like this:
Ranger > (Mesmer | Engineer | Thief ) > Elementalist

But why would someone spend a fortune repairing armor for virtually no reward?
The costs can vary alot depending on what you’re doing. The armor repair costs don’t usually bother me too much, but if you’re playing defensively, e.g. upgrading and sieging up a tower, especially if you’re buying blueprints, that can get pretty pricey. But when you start to feel the pinch you can switch off and run with the zerg for a while and make it back.
I play both WvW and PvE. Each starts to get old if I do them exclusively, but having both of them gives me enough variety to keep me coming back. The WvW gives me the additional challenge of fighting against other players and I find that there is a sense of community among the regular WvW players that I enjoy, in carefully managed doses. OTOH, I don’t roleplay in WvW and it lacks the story and lore elements that I enjoy about PvE, and I find PvE somewhat restful after the intensity of WvW.

I did find the final battle a bit underwhelming, as the OP put it, although I found the rest of the dungeon did feel quite epic to me. Granted, I think that had less to do with the mechanics and more with the look, the pace, the music…OMG the music was fantastic. It really drove the pacing, for me. I think they toned it down a bit too much in the last update and it lost some of the epic feel it had (for me) prior to that, but perhaps allowing it to be easier and shorter was the right way to go, on the whole.
To go off on a brief tangent, I think the biggest mistake was to have it be the culmination of the personal story at all. I think the personal story should have remained ‘personal’ throughout. The overriding story could have been told through the dungeons, or it could have been told discontiguously, i.e. with there being lots of story arcs for characters to choose from that each play some role in contributing to the ultimate goal. But that’s probably a topic for the Personal Story forum.
Am i the only one who cheered when logan sacrificed himself? I thought, ‘oh, maybe this isnt half bad…’
Yeah, I did too, although I’m not sure it was for the same reasons. I actually like Logan. To me he’s the only one of Destiny’s Edge who gets to have any depth at all, even if it is contrived by his being the one forced to make the hard choice. I think letting him sacrifice himself and die heroically would have been a nice touch. Having him survive cheapened the moment, in my eyes.

“Worshipping nonsense and imagination” — Hayden Herrera (paraphrased)
Oh, and on the subject of my mesmer, I’m having a hard time learning to play him in WvW because he seems to get a lot more focus from the enemy than my ranger does. It’s probably his shiny purple bubbles. So, BG and KN, I respectfully request that for as long as you play us, you not kill any TC mesmers! Not even female ones, because now that we can change our characters’ genders, they could be me too! And I’m kind of slow and my learning curve…well you get the idea. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding! Love, me.
“Worshipping nonsense and imagination” — Hayden Herrera (paraphrased)
To the very large group of BG who were at Speldan yesterday when a TC ranger came jogging casually up the road as if she didn’t even see you there. I didn’t! I saw one enemy as I approached the camp. One. I figured he soloing it. Then suddenly, there you all were! That Culling has some mad skillz.
Apparently it works on the mobs too, though. At one point I was standing next to a large rock with my mesmer, accompanied by my new friend, Eagle Griffon. It acted like it didn’t even see me, even though I was no longer stealthed and it was right on top of me. Freaky weird stuff.
Not complaining. We all know it exists. I just thought those two incidents in particularly were some of the weirdest I’ve seen so far. And the Griffon thing was actually kind of funny.

Nope. I think the price is ridiculous and the only thing I’ve ever gotten out of one of the chests that I felt had any value to me is the salvage kits. I just let them pile up and open one whenever I get a key as a drop or story reward.

I’ve had a lot of great moments in the game so far, but one I particularly remember was teaming up with another player who was also doing the Only Zhul jumping puzzle which spawns an event at the end to kill a Giant Destroyer Troll. We failed at that multiple times (mostly my fault, I must admit), but kept coming back until we succeeded. Even logged out for a game update and resumed again after logging back in.

It’s hard being right all the time.
I respectfully disagree.
“Worshipping nonsense and imagination” — Hayden Herrera (paraphrased)
I might, but there are some thing they get a pass on now because of the lack of a monthly fee that I would want to see changed before I started paying.
- In-game Support
If I get stuck in terrain or encounter some other bug that prevents me from completing a mission, I would expect a GM to respond and move my character or progress the mission so that it can be completed (I realize they likely couldn’t actually fix the bug). If somebody is being harassing in game, I would expect a GM to respond to an in-game report and deal with the situation then and there.
- Get rid of DR
- Increase loot across the board
- Culling in WvW fixed/removed
In general, I’d like to see better QA and a more stable, less insect-rich environment, but the game is new, and a lot of the games it gets compared to have many years on it. So I think the points I listed are really the sticking points that would make me have to think hard about whether or not I’d be willing to pay monthly.

Just spent part of my Saturday night and most of my Sunday doing Scavenger’s Chasm for the first time. It was both grueling and awesome.
There were two minor disappointments, though. One was, I made the mistake of opening the first chest last night, but then it got to be too late, so I logged out in the puzzle and finished today. Apparently that prevented me from getting the achievement so I’ll have to do it again. Granted, I’d have done it again anyway, because I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it would have been nice to get the little ‘ding’ after all that work the first time through; the second time will be much easier. The other thing was the chests coughing up nothing but a few blue and green items. I know that’s not the puzzle developer’s responsibility but still, just one more moment that left me scratching my head thinking, “Really? That’s what this game considers loot, huh?”
Anyway, still a great puzzle. I think Goemm’s Lab might still be my favorite, but Scavenger’s Chasm is a contender.
