@Strodor

yeah 8:20 was kind of rofl just for fun. I was hoping to break up their army formation doing that :p.

@iJuan

At level 27 you only have 17 traits. I would recommend putting 10 of those into air for zephyr’s boon, and then the next 15 into water .
Personally I went S/D when I first started as elementalist. I don’t think builds really matter pre-level 80s though.

I’m using a standard keyboard and a mouse with 2 extra buttons.

Options: Turn off auto targeting

I left my f1 to f4 keys the same as they are right now
skills 7,8,9,10 are z,x,c,v respectively
Q is look backwards
E is dodge
Mouse 4 is nearest target
Mouse 5 is next target

Pretty much all I’m using at the moment lol. Nothing seriously fancy

@Fazhu

It’s dependent on the last time you attacked your enemy, and the distance you are away from him. For instance, I could attack you, run a few feet away and neither of us do anything for 2 minutes, and I will still be engaged with you in combat.

@Aesa

No idea :S. You could test in the heart of the mists, turn on the trait and turn it off when doing condition damage to see if it works.

@Velzevul
I decided to change from clerics to “soldiers” b/c my overall defense was a little bit low. I need to maintain my overall HP to roughly 18k (I find that to be a happy medium of HP), and have an increase in toughness. I found that in order to get this extra toughness, I needed to sacrifice some of my other stats, namely condition damage and precision.

So basically when considering my armor + amulet set, I was originally running
Clerics Armor (Power, toughness, healing power)
Jewelery (Power, Condition damage, Vitality)

I wanted to get change that condition damage to toughness while retaining all other stats, so I came up with
PVT armor (Power, Toughness, vitality)
Clerics Jewelery (Power, Toughness, healing power)

Btw

I made my first video with commentary. I’m trying to get feedback on this video so I can make better commentary videos in the future.

I just discovered something really cool about evasive arcana:P

Evasive arcana gives you a spell at the end of your dodge depending on your attunement with a 10second cd with each spell.

Each spell generated from this dodge roll is considered a “combo blast: finisher”, which is very similar to arcane wave. Even the water attunement’s dodge is considered a combo blast:finisher.

That being said, you can actually generate AoE might to the team simply by dodging into a fire field. For instance, I can swap to fire (1 stack of might) then I can use fire 3(burning speed) and dodge directly back into the line i just made to generate 3 stacks of might. I can then proceed to cast ring of fire, followed by weapon swap (another 3 stacks) and then dodge (under earth) within that field to grant another 3 stacks of might. Combine that with earth 4, and earth 5 for an extra 6 stacks. Add arcane wave for an extra 3 stacks. That’s already 22 stacks of might.

^This combination could be used to grant your team in PvE those stacks of might as well. S/D is not the only way to permanently maintain 25 stacks of might for an entire team.

You can see where this is going. It can be used to generate offensive power against really tanky opponents. I can easily effectively have a long standing 25 stacks of might, using runes that increase boon duration. 25 stacks of might = 25×35 = +875 power and condition damage

@Munchkin

Thanks for all that information. Didn’t know about the soldiers crest

@fannonCodder

Haven’t gotten my new PVT armor set yet, and I’ve been too busy to conduct more theorycrafting testing. Someone else should try conducting some data on power vs condition damage, and statwise returns on toughness and healing power :S

playing an elementalist definitely takes alot of practice. I notice that when I watch my videos, its pretty frustrating to see myself make so many errors lol.

@spifnar

I’m not sure where your numbers are coming from

@reQuiem

There both too good to sacrifice. Soothing wave is better though imo

@vanillea

pm me in game when I’m on

I also think that Divinitys is better than more boon duration. I agree with what you say, because there are times where that extra reg, swiftness, vigor, etc. isn’t really needed.

@ReQuiem

Stacking those on kill bonuses dont work

I’m currently running arcane shield with mist form and lightning flash. I find the 3 blocks to be extremely useful vs warriors who will spin with quickness at you and take out half your hp in 1 second, and against thieves.

I wouldn’t bother with that consumable. I think getting peach pie (70hp reg/sec) is much more useful.

@deadfall

I run everything the same with PvE and Wv3. I’m currently doing AC, and I can definitely say that D/D is way more useful than staff in that dungeon.

@ReQuiem
D/D is definitely more fun

@Lavish
I personally like having an additional 6 stacks of might (up to 9) from weapon swapping, for a total of 200 power and 200 condition (or more).

@Kirtai
Try buying dirt cheap green armor, or some cheap rare armor to try it before investing in exotics.

@ Arian

I’ll just upload random PUG teams I join and demonstrate some of my roaming / PvP tactics.

I don’t usually jump people in puzzle unless I’m doing puzzle myself. It is pretty fun to kill trollers who stop people from progressing though.

@reQuiem

Divintitys gives 60 precision, approximately additional 2-3% crit chance with 12% crit dmg bonuses from an already inherent base 50% crit dmg bonus.

As stated in Munchkins reply, I think elemental shielding is viable. However, sacrificing a 1500ish heal every 10 seconds (be it from evasive arcana or attuning water to heal) is a rather large sacrifice. I also don’t find that I’m utilizing the protection really that well most of the time, as I am not always getting hit when protection is on. In addition, there’s a pretty significantly large amount of downtime when it comes to protection boons. Extra healing on the other hand, is always useful, and has a consistent, predictable downtime.

I still haven’t really tried SoR much in effect yet.

Just from what people have told me, power has diminishing returns apparently ( I honestly don’t know if this is true) . Also healing power gives low stat returns too from what I’ve been told.

When it comes to toughness vs vitality, you want to maximize your toughness while maintaining a decent amount of vitality. Toughness is great in any situation, be it large scale battles or small scale battles. Vitality improves short term survivability in large scale fights, whereas toughness improves survivability in both large and small scale fights. This is because you are sustaining yourself consistently in small battles, and vitality doesn’t improve overall recovery of your HP. Toughness and healing power does.

As to your weapon questions:

Weapon swap sigils do not stack
I don’t know how great sigil of intelligence , hydromancy, and leeching is.

@Cidolfas

I turn off auto targeting. I’m not even using a fancy keyboard, its a cheap crappy $5 one. I don’t need extra functions

Burning speed’s targeting system is determined primarily on camera angle iirc.
I double click the screen for Ride the lightning when i escape

I think I mentioned in the beginning of post what I run in PvP

@Vanillea

I’m on FA.

Clerics is actually toughness, healing power, and power
Are there Power vitality, toughness weapons on AH?. I might just buy a pair of daggers there.

@Arian

I’m not a big fan of critical dmg/ crit chance. Bursting does sound nice though with arcane power, but the CD is at 45 seconds so I’m not sure how great that is. Sacrificing a defensive utility for extra burst is really something I don’t wanna invest in. The only thing is you have an inherent crit chance bonus on most of the time from fury.

@MikHell

I’m running arcane shield too atm as my last utility skill for wv3. I find it to be really useful vs HB warriors and thieves.

As stated earlier, my concern for getting the +10 earth to get extra protection is that you need to sacrifice healing from either water or arcana. I don’t think thats worth it tbh.

@Requiem

The hp healing from cantrips is approximately 12-13seconds of regeneration. For me, thats approximately 2000 hp in healing. Vigor also lasts same amount of time

If you add that 2 earth/ 2 water/ 2 monk mix, its going obviously be slightly higher, perhaps around 2.5k hp heal

@crunchy and Bast
Yes not all of these players are good

@Strodor
That is actually the reason why I get arcane shielding (shield at 25% hp) instead of (33% chance of vigor on critical hit) from arcana tree. I find the vigor from teleporting into a mob with churning earth is good enough for survival.

@Rias

Thanks for the input, I didn’t really know alot of those things. How easy (or how fast) can one get armor from those dungeons anyways? (I haven’t even touched half the dungeons lol)

@Lifelike

Thanks for support. I can understand where they are coming from, most of those battles fought didn’t involve highly skilled players. Its also hard to determine what level and gear they have on, but I can get a rough idea based on how they play, how much damage they take, how much damage I take, etc.

@Antrasith
Thanks

@Munchkin

I just wanna put out what 2earth/2water/2monk is so everyone is on same page

2 rune of monk = +25 healing, 15% boon duration
2 rune of water = +25 healing, 15% boon duration
2 rune of earth = +25 toughness +20% protection duration

Stats are a tad low at a total of 75 for that combination as opposed to 360 for Divinitys.

I think for the main armor set, PVT (Power, vitality, toughness) is the best combination of stats for mostly every class. Power is considered to be overall the best offensive stat, and vitality / toughness increases your EHP (effective health points), meaning you survive much longer.

As to your build idea, elemental shielding (gain protection upon casting auras) is very useful for a 6rune of earth set. If you want to add those extra 10 points to earth, you have to either sacrifice 10 in water, or 10 in arcana. Sacrificing 10 in water means you dont heal upon changing to water attunement, and sacrificing 10 in arcana means a 11 second attunement CD from 9 seconds, and no dodge rolls to heal. Also the evasive arcana dodge roll in earth attunement behaves similarly to earth 15’s passive.

I have thought about that build before, but I find that sacrificing a heal like that really lowers your overall long term survivability (meaning small scale battles get harder). Having the extra +10 earth is obviously much better for charging into a zerg fight, but you have an increased downtime upon retreating (as you will be healing after charging in).

I made a really good video demonstrating how a D/D ele leads and charges into large zerg fights, but I was going upload that later this week (probably weekend) and try to put voice commentary on it so people can learn more from it.

I don’t think Doylaks is that great though tbh. It does offer a lot of toughness which I feel like I’m still lacking. I currently have about 1400 toughness, I’m looking to try and bring that to maybe 1700, with reduced condition damage, healing power, and precision.

I’m going definitely try getting Divinitys. Doylak offers 215 combined stats (165 toughness, 50 vitality). Divinity’s offers 360 combined stats, and 12% critical damage. In addition, an elementalist utilizes all stats pretty well. Doylaks last bonus is kinda meh.

In terms of current stats, as stated above, go for 1700 toughness. I currently have 1400 toughness with dolyaks, and will lose 150 if I switch to Divinitys. My gameplay style for Wv3 is rush directly into the enemy zerg mob and cause havoc. Healing power is not as important as a stat when I’m getting focus fired heavily on, as I cannot pull off that many heals.
——————————————————-
So this is my theoretically proposed new armor setup for me:

Full Vigil Armor (Power,Toughness,Vitality) < Not sure if I can get this though…I’m not a vigil member. Maybe I can make another class to unlock it? Anyone know?

Mix of Jewelery (Toughness, healing power, and Power) and (Condition damage, vitality, power). I personally want toughness in every item possible.

Only problem with this build is that I can’t find jewelery with the stats I want… condition damage needs to be sacrificed to get toughness. I personally find precision to be a stat that I don’t really want as the effects are diminished when you have an already +20% crit chance from fury on most of the battle.

I still need to do some further theorycrafting on condition damage vs power, and % dmg mitigation from increase in toughness.

Here’s the list of all the prefix combinations:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Carrion#Prefixes
—————————————————————————-

@Arian
I don’t really have a guild that specializes in sPvP, so it would be hard for me to make a video without getting seriously annihilated because of lack of coordination.

I have played against a match against team paradigm before, we lost horribly but I ended up pressuring their mesmer treb to retreat from treb (I didn’t record this)

I’m aware that Wv3 is not a good indicator of skilled gameplay. I’m currently against Blackgate(one of the top servers), so I usually go off and find some really competent players to fight. Usually ends up with me dying b/c most of their Wv3 players travel in PvP guild groups.

@FannonCodder (Cannon Fodder?:s)

I actually like having just 10 earth tbh. 30 arcana to get evasive arcana is worth it. I think if you do go earth the trait that gives protection from aura cast is much more useful than stone splitters.

I’ll post some tutorial videos with commentary when I have time later this week

@Cipoet

I could have played better in that video. I realize after watching myself play that I tend to forget to cast alot of things.

I do usually try and find the best players I can in Wv3 by pming them and asking me to duel them. I found a pretty good warrior that I 1v1’d with extensively, and I did in fact lose to him and win against him about the same number of times (he also had 3 orb bonuses, guild bonuses, etc…)

Didn’t know that :S. Thanks for the tip. I’ll also check out rune of divinity too, doylaks regeneration is kinda meh tbh.

“Runes of Divinity increase all primary character attributes – Power, Toughness, Vitality, and Precision – along with increased Healing Power, Critical Damage and Condition Damage. The effects are dependent on the number of armor pieces the
rune is placed in as well as the grade of rune applied.”

- yeah having all stats boosted sounds pretty sick

@Deadfall

Doylak’s is an okay. Undead runes are pretty decent too, but I feel as if I don’t need more condition damage. I am considering using rune of earth though, having a magnetic aura at 20% hp sounds kind of useful. Rune of divinity sounds useful too

@da phoenix what do u mean with d/d ele have too many gap closer ? (Basically anything that positions myself within melee range to ranger such as Fire3, Air 4(RoTL), Lightning flash, earth 3, mist form, etc. Then theres all the CC abilities also that could technically count.

ride the lighting ? the ranger or thieves can simply use the skill that leap the backward,and for ranger, knocked u back. > (an ele has many more ways close the gap to both classes comparatively to those respective classes’s ability to distance said gap.)

in my experience vs a good pistol/dagger shortbow thieves and ranger, they can just kited u to death, all u can do is ride the lighting to run*, >(too many gap closers on an ele. The thief and ranger will be struggling to run away from me)

if u try to use ride the lighting for gap closser, tooo easy for them to react with leapbackward or knockback skill (yes RoTL is very predictable, but you can easily throw another gap closer after), once ur ride the lighting cooldown, ur a sitting duck vs their range attack >(Not really, I have infinitely more tanking and healing abilities to both, and I can maintain perma swiftness with more CC and gap closers for more fun. Plus thieves have crappy ranged dmg overall)

and if ur fighting a noob thieves its soo easy to predict their movement, vs a good thief, >(Doesn’t matter, you can stealth and I’ll pop fire2 and hit you regardless as the thief doesn’t have time to change position)

u will looks like a kitten casting aoe or running while they move back and use their (<not really all my spells from D/D are fairly easy to hit imo)

shortbow or pistol

u can outlast a burst build 1 vs 1 and finally can kill them in 5 minutes because u have

low cond dmg (<actually my condition damage is pretty high at 850) and medium power (you would be suprised how high my power is in combat, it goes up to 2300 with might +25 stacks of bloodlust) without crit (I have fury almost up on all the time, an extra 20 crit chance for a total of approximately 35%), but vs a balanced thief and ranger, u
simply cant kill them man and in the end the will outlast u
(<lol? Do you know how many ways an ele can mitigate dmg and heal compared to rangers and thieves?)

i dont even want to imagine u fighting a good necromancer (yea necros are a pain, but I can just simply run away once they pop lich form and come back to kill them) and pistol enginering (<dunno anything about this) or guardian with lots of condition dmg (guardians have really low dmg from my experiences), u have no chance by 1… and without water 30, u can only remove condition with ur cleanse flame and when u change to water
(Actually I have several ways to remove conditions. 1. Cleansing water. 2. Attuning to water. 3. Dodging to get cleansing water. 4. Automatic armor of earth cantrip at 50% hp. 5. Lightning flash. 6 Mist form. 7. any other cantrips. So approximately 6 ways, plus another 10 ways to heal and lots of mitigation methods that I can’t recall atm)

i just dont get this build, if u really want to play tank ele, cond damage is much2 better than trying to use power, (Did you even read my build? Its based heavily off both stats)

because cond dmg dont neeed crit and crit dmg, power u need to HIT the target first(thats a big IF u hit ur combo or they dont use stunbreaker or they dont u know…dodge ur updraft) <(You have to hit them intially to get the condition damage too…)

and without crit and crit power they dmg will be meeeeeeeh……and u dont really have high sustain dmg without high cond dmg…..(<Dunno what you’re referring to here)

imo i think this is a good build

but not enough killing power b yourself and not enough healing power to tank them all (I’ve killed so many people in Wv3 and PvP so I do know what I’m talking about)

its just a relly durable build (yes it is) with ok attack and good running power and can do a good job vs a burst build but cant really do anything vs a balance build

sorry to bash on your comment, but there were just too many incorrect statements for me to resist lol :P

His build has much more offense than mine, but does lack condition removal. I can’t really say much else about it cause i never tried it.

@Vincent Highwind

I have no idea what his build is. I read up on some random thread about him and have a slight idea of what hes running, but I can’t compare it unless I know the exact build setup.
Can you post it here

@ Cipoet

Total Damge (Pow vs. Pre) /Additional power/ Additional precision
598.6235 / 0 /0
643.2638571 / 100 /0
669.513125 / 200 /0
707.9001429 / 300 /0
614.55975 / 0 /100
630.496 / 0 /200
646.43225 / 0 /300

These are some final calculations I obtained plotting data I gathered using lightning whip against a medium armored target. As you can see, power is statistically better than precision for an elementalist, as this class does not have many inherent crit damage/ crit chance bonuses like that of a thief.

I assumed the following
Total damage = (Base damage)(1+ Crit chance(total crit dmg))

Total Critical damage = Base critical damage + additional critical dmg (as shown on hero screen), where Base = 0.5 from calculated values

I did not factor fury into the equation, as D/D elementalists maintain fury almost all the time in battle. I also did not increase the critical damage for these calculations because obtaining critical damage requires you to sacrifice other stats (approximately 284 base stats for 15% crit dmg when comparing PvP berserk’s ammy vs. soldiers ammy) This is just a statwise comparison between power and precision.

As to your question about classes in dueling situations, an elementalist is the one of the only classes that can kill every other class effectively, or stalemate if the enemy is too defensively oriented.

Thieves are by far the easiest class for a D/D elementalist to kill. They have almost little to no survivability, low hp, low toughness, and there only methods of escaping involving sacrificing massive dps to teleport with shortbows, or casting predictable invisibility. Also an elementalist specializes in AoE, so hitting an invisible target is almost the same as hitting a visible target (i.e fire drakes breath at enemy and let him burn to death in invisibility)

In addition, thieves are VERY easy to predict. its not hard to tell which direction a thief will come at you after he stealths (obviously from the backside). Just run around in a circle and that negatives all his critical bonus dmg backstabs.

If a thief spams heart seeker, simply dodge it, use air 2,3, and 5, earth 4, and fire 3. That, and use water for extra kiting and healing. If it really gets that bad, an automatic arcane shield pops at 25% and armor of earth at 50% (which is never needed against a thief). It doesn’t matter how skilled this thief is, he can be the best thief in the game, and still lose to a competent D/D elementalist.

As to your question against rangers, a ranger benefits the most from attacking from a distance and kiting the enemy. A D/D elementalist has way too many ways to close that gap, forcing a ranger on the defensive.

In addition, a D/D elementalist has superior healing and defense mechanisms in comparison to thieves and rangers. There’s probably about 10 ways to heal as an elementalist, and several more methods to mitigate damage. For instance,1. switching to water = heal. 2. Casting a water spell = heal. 3. Casting glyph of elemental harmony under water attunement= heal. 4. Casting ice cone. 5. Casting cleansing water. 6. Autocasting of armor of earth. 7. Casting elite in water attunement, sometimes cast full heals. 8. Evasive arcane, dodge to get cleansing water. 9-11. Any additional cantrips (mist form, lightning flash, etc). A ranger and thief has 1 or 2 heals.

I hope that answers your question. I am basing this all from my own Wv3 and sPvP experience.

If you have any indepth questions you want to ask, I will be happy to answer them:P

@ Mik Hell

Its merely preference. Both spells have their advantages and disadvantages.

Glyph:
Larger burst heal, provides 5300 heal +2300 hp reg (I usually cast it under water attunement) for a total of 7500 heal
Allows for perma swiftness upkeep when attuned to air (12seconds of swiftness upon cast). Great for out of combat travelling, and escaping enemies.

Signet:
Consistent 250 heal per spell, heals 3500 on cast and deactivates passive.

I did some calculations, I cast approximately 15-20 spells per 25seconds.
Assuming i cast 16 spells (as most battles I will have to dodge at some point, kite, get CC’d. go into mist form, finish off enemies, etc.)

250×16 =4000 heal for 25 seconds under passive, and 3500 heal under active.

Analysis:
The signet of restoration is much more better when it comes to starting a battle, as you can passively heal off any damage you are taking. It will heal an average of 4000 hp with a 3500hp upon activation. So within those first 25 seconds in combat, I can heal 4000hp passively and an additional 3500 hp if I cast the spell upon for 7500hp.

However, once the signet of restoration(SoR) is cast, the skill itself becomes inferior to glyph of elemental harmony (GeH). The SoR can only give an output of about 4000 hp (using passive) at best in most situations per 25 seconds, whereas the GeH can easily provide 7500 hp under water attunement per 25 seconds. So when it comes to long battles (elementalists win most battles by dragging them out and outlasting the enemy), GeH is superior in everyway possible.

Even if GeH is not cast under water attunement, it will still out heal SoR regardless in the long run. GeH is also much more versatile, as you will need the burst heal when playing against good players who know how to burst enemies effectively. SoR is only good against playing really bad players with hardly any form of burst damage, but if thats the case a heal would not be needed in the first place.

@ Daredent
I’m using stone splitters(skill 6) but the more I think about it only 15 points in earth are really needed. I use the 15 earth skill for its cripple in order to provide a cover condition for burning damage and to slow down my enemies.

You could just invest the other 5 points in air (for a lightning bolt strike upon changing to air) or 5 in water (2% damage per boon). I noticed that I usually maintain 2-3 boons at all times in combat, so thats an easy 4-6% damage.

@ intigo and damevi

You could also go evasive arcana (10 more points in arcana) and dodge roll to get cleansing water from water attunement. this also reduces your attunement cooldown time from 11 to 9 seconds, so its a good investment too.

@yaptap

Skill rotation tends to vary a lot based upon the situation. You will often vary up the rotation in long extended battles, but for most situations it plays out as the following against average level players:

>Initiate with Air 4 (RoTL), and then Air 5 (updraft). Use air 3. Switch to fire, use fire 3 followed by fire 4, then fire 5, and then fire 2. Use arcane blast in Ring of Fire (fire 4 skill), and switch to earth to apply a cripple (cover condition for fire) and cast earth 4 followed by earth 2. Cast earth 5, enemy should be running away by now, then use lightning flash as its ending to his position. Switch to water, cast Water 4 , water 3 (to slow him and cover condition the bleed), water 1 (cover condition), and water 2 in order. Cast water 5 and utility 6 if needed. Switch to air, finish them off with air4, air2, and air1.

thanks for responses guys.

As to your question rias,

I picked the cleric armor + carrion accessories arbitrarily when compared to carrion armor+ cleric accessories. Both combinations obviously had the stats I needed, but I went with whatever felt good at the time.

Clerics gear provides more sustainability in long fights (like that video of me soloing a champion mob) whereas carrion provides more raw damage output with the necessary vitality so you don’t get bursted to death.

You could go clerics accessories / carrion armor for more defense / healing, but I find that my current ability to tank is fine as it is. There is no need to go overkill on defense, the priority should be to have just the right amount of defense (healing, toughness, and vitality) while maximizing offense (power, condition damage, precision).

The key to being a D/D tanky DPS elementalist is to sustain yourself indefinitely in battle with heals and damage mitigation while at the same time maximizing total damage output. If you compare an elementalist to a thief or warrior, they can both easily out burst an elementalist with heartseeker / hundred blades. If you compare an elementalist to a guardian, a guardian can tank much more efficiently against many enemies at once. Basically as an elementalist you don’t fall under any of the extremities of some classes, and that your overall mix of stats should be fairly average across the board.

It has been stated that most people feel as if elementalists are underpowered, but I have never really felt this way about the class. When it comes to top tiered level PvP, an elementalist tends to outshine most classes in 1v1. The only class that I’ve really noticed as a problem to me is a necro. Victories against skilled mesmers and engineers are determined by the better player. Warriors, ranger, and thieves are practically free kills regardless of how skilled they are. Guardians take too long to kill and never die.

@ Hiasstsu

Healing power isn’t worthless on elementalist b/c eles have so many methods to heal. It is worthless to mostly every other class except guardian. Statwise healing power gives low returns per point. Toughness is arguably something you wanna add up for defense.

As for frontlining, I frontline most battles of up to 20 enemies on the opposing team most of the time. I usually initiate the battle when people are standing around, because nobody expects a churning earth + teleport elementalist most of the time. That, and the added confusion gives you about 5 seconds to unleash all your AoE chaos before backing out of the zerg. Using all of the earth skills, and fire, you can easily deal take out about a 1/3rd hp off of the enemies (usually around 5-10 people get affected) HP bar with DoT conditions right off the bat.

In addition, an elementalist D/D is one of the few classes that are effective at frontlining an enemy assault. Lots of escape methods, heavy AoE damage, and backup defensive mechanisms allow you to effectively lead an assault and deal ALOT of damage. Other classes may have more defense (such as guardian), but they lack mobility/ quick AoE DPS and cannot frontline as effectively.

Those are experimental teleportation guns. I forget where on the map I buy them, but you can do a google / youtube search for them

Here’s a link i found showing where u can buy them

Any class can use it, and it is very useful for doing complicated jukes / ganks
I’ve used it in a few videos to set up traps while I’m running with churning earth, and quickly changing escape direction using its portal ability.

Example
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgG_IwJTQBA&feature=plcp

Somehow my poorly misjudged teleportation gun ended up being used as an escape route.

@seithan

Yeah I did some analysis on stats and PvE gear stats < PvP stats to my knowledge. My condition damage I believe is 800-850. My PvE power and toughness are about 300 points each lower than my PvP setup, and my HP is about 2000hp less.

It doesn’t really matter what the stats are for Wv3 because all of your enemies are equally handicapped in that sense as you are.

@Rhoto and Vaerah
Yeah sorry if I end up making this class more inferior than it already is in some aspects by posting these videos (I obviously don’t want ele nerfed myself!), but I thought people would find it entertaining and helpful for learning some PvP tactics.

Most of the boon stacks come from a combination of the arcana

Here’s the build link again. Some reason my last link didn’t work

http://www.gw2build.com/builds/simulator.php#1.1.1.0.13.0.0.0.0.0.2.8.21.23.24.8.7.7.0.0.0.16.0.0.33.36.0.48.50.0.65.64.0.0.10.20.20.20

My boons comes from swapping attunements a lot, as swapping attunements grants you 5 seconds of a specific boon. I also get boons from Zehpyr’s Boon (10 air trait), which gives me 12-14seconds of swiftness on air3 and 5-6seconds on Water4. In addition, I get lots of might boons from my weapon sigil (gain 3 stacks of might per weapon/attunement swap) and from using combination skills. Combination skills is where i throw down fire4 (ring of fire) and use it with arcane blast and earth 4 and 5.

I also get vigor and regeneration from my cantrips – cleansing fire and armor of earth. Armor of earth (earth 10 trait) is casted once you HP is below 50%, and combined with soothing disruption (water 10 trait), I get about a 2k automatic regenerative heal.

Also swapping attunements grants you 2 seconds of fury as well. Casting healing skill 6 grants a boon also.

I noticed your too trigger happy when swapping attunements. You should utilize your major CD skills from each attunement from switching most of the time.

At 0:58 you could’ve popped earth 2 out
1:03 wouldve been better for fire 4
1:23 pop fire 4, dodge and pop fire 3 to get a better angle
1:25 you pressed fire5 before fire4 was cast, and they didn’t have burning on them
Pop skill 4 in water more often. I use zephyr’s boon so it grants me swiftness and vigor
1:40 you completely ignored all of your earth skills
2:00, you shouldve retreated further back popped earth 5 and teleport
2:11 swap attunement to earth while performing finishing blow to get 33% dmg reduction
2:16-2:19 missed fire skill 3 and ignored most of those spells. Fire deals more damage than earth
2:25 you need to pop air2 asap to get weakness on them to mitigate dmg
2:30 you canceled your heal cone way too early
2:44 at least use fire2 on him and fire5 b4 swapping attunements
2:58 you swapped off your fire2 too early. Fire2 has some of the highest DPS in your arsenal

you barely use teleport, you may want to consider arcane blast or arcane shield instead

Hey Vaerah,

I just made 6 WvW videos while i was playing for 2 hours. Its still uploading on youtube, but if you subscribe to my channel you’ll see it.

Gearwise for PvE and Wv3 from PvP is relatively simple.

Logic behind which stats to pick:

Defensively, toughness is considered the best stat when compared against vitality and healing power. From what I know so far, healing power does not increase your overall heal by a large factor. However, an elemenentalist has more means of healing than any other class, even more than an guardian without sacrificing DPS.

Basically, you want to get as much toughness and healing power as possible, while sustaining a reasonable amount of vitality. Why? Healing power and toughness makes you last much longer in a battle, whereas vitality is a fixed value. Remember that battles for an elementalist are won usually by dragging out the fight as your opponents do not have your survivability.

Offensively, you want to optimize for power and condition damage. Precision from my experience is not as useful as power, and I’d rather not rely on chance to deal damage. Power boosts damage for ALL abilities (not their DoT effect however) so you cannot go wrong here. An elementalist benefits very much from condition damage as well, since fire and earth heavily rely on it. Fire2-4 deal burning damage, and earth1-2,5 deal bleeding damage. Condition damage can range up to 8000 DoT damage from fire2 (drakes breath) if you have 1000 condition damage (see hero screen > attack to see your condition damage). Earth 5 (churning earth) ranges up to 7000 condition damage with 1000 condition damage.

^ These values indicated above are enormous for an elementalist, so a mix of condition damage and power is needed. You don’t want to entirely rely on one type of damage as conditions can be removed.

This is what I run in Wv3 and PvE

Clerics Exotic set (Condition damage, toughness, healing power)
Jewelery Exotic Set (Power, condition damage, and vitality)
Guild backpack (doesn’t matter what you pick here) + gem(^same stats as jewelery)

Dagger one and two(Condition damage, precision, and power)
Dagger sigils (+10 power per kill, gain 3 stacks of might when you swap in battle)

Staff and Trident(Condition damage, precision, and power)
Sigil (5% damage)

SKILLS:
Basically everything I mentioned in post 3. Take out cleansing fire for vapor form since you will need it to survive large scale battles.
I run 20 earth (5% damage within melee range)

Logic behind picking sigils and weapons:
You need a staff for long range zerg battles in Wv3. D/D is your primary weapon set for battles with battle scales of 10v10 or less. Anything higher, use a staff.

10 power is needed for D/D. I’ve found that there should be more power than condition damage from personal experience. The added power is also very useful for a staff and trident, where the predominant stats are precisionpower.

One of the daggers gives you 3 stacks of might upon switching. Why not 5% damage?
I’m not an expert at game mechanics (I may be wrong here), but when your power is approximately 1500-1700, you are only getting an effective return of about 50-100 power. 5% damage may also apply to condition damage as well.

You might ask yourself “But I don’t swap weapons as an elementalist!” Attunement switching is considered weapon swapping. The sigil has a 9second cooldown, and the elementalist benefits the MOST of this sigil of any class. Why? Your constantly changing attunements to maximize damage to maximize the CD recharge, whereas other classes change weapons based on situations.

Each stack of might gives you 35 power and 35 condition. You can effectively stack up to 6 stacks of might EASILY (and 9 stacks if you have 30 arcana), which is an effective 6×35 =200 power AND condition damage. This dwarfs the 5% damage by a factor of 2 or more.

Oh and by the way you can add an additional 10 stacks of might using d/d by using fire4 followed by earth4 and 5 with arcane blast for an additional 350 power and condition damage! Use it against annoying guardian tankers that never die, while covering your DPS conditions with non DPS ones such as vulnerability, immobilization, weakness, chill, etc so that people can’t remove your massive DPS DoTs

I hope this answers your question

I will upload a future guide later

Hey Vaerah,

:] I’ll take the 0.1% as a compliment, lol

I still think elementalist is underpowered at the moment. Many people will agree that elementalist is not a top tier class. We have a decent amount of bugs still concerning current skills, have a lackluster of trait sets, a joke of a downed state, some rather useless elite skills, low base stats, and no fall damage traits.

I will update more videos and tutorials in the future:]

I’m not 100% sure about the best stats in general are for elementalists. However, to my knowledge D/D builds benefit more so from power and precision than condition damage.

This build centers fairly heavily on changing attunements constantly. That being said, neither water nor air offer any sort of condition damage.

Doylaks offers toughness and vitality, and at 6 runes approximately 30 hp/sec.

10 air> zephy’s boon
10 earth> earth’s embrace
20 water >soothing disruption, cleansing wave
20 arcana > elemental attunement , arcane shielding

The last 10 points are optional, but the above 60 points I feel are vital to any tanking/roaming/aoe dps build.

I put my last 10 points in either water, earth or arcane
For water> cleansing water

For earth> stone splitters

Armor

Weapons
Dagger 5% dmg
Dagger +10 power per kill
