Sounds lik a pci e buss speed issue, confirm with gpuz while the game is running in windowed mode. Check your bios and windows settings.
4790 also has the improved TIM/IHS which makes it almost like a lidded 4770 when it comes to oc.
also turn off shadows reflections and set character model limit to medium/high and quality to high. The difference between highest and high is huge.

If i didnt have a G3220, I would have considered buying the Anniversary edition. I think a 4.6ghz dual core chip would beat every i3 out there. The only exception would be on heavily threaded tasks (compression, encoding/decoding…ect)
I wish they would have released an unlocked i3 as well at the 150 range, which would slot inbetween the current i3s and the budget i5’s. That would have been awesome.
well it is more a matter of a dual core 2 thread at 4.5-7 Ghz vs dual core 4 thread at 3.4. Yes there are 2 more threads, but usually hypertreading only increases performance by about a third or less, which would be the same as a Pentium at 4.5 (33% faster than 3.4).
Especially with a z board the oc could be really high. Which makes it about even in most gaming applications. I personally think Gw2 could be better on the Pentium due to how higher clocks rather than more threads benefit the older engine but that will require more data as the chip is relatively new and no dual core intel has been unlocked before for any comparison.
But if OP is doing photo/video editing as well, a HT chip might be better as most editing software can take advantage of the 4 threads.
(edited by dodgycookies.4562)
I would not buy the i3 at this time for a few reasons:
if you want a budget intel chip and mb combo i would suggest the upcoming Pentium anniversary edition. It is a dual core chip that is significantly overclock-able and is only a tiny bit slower than an i3 when oced to about 4.5.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pentium-g3258-overclocking-performance,3849-17.html
Combine that with asus and other board makers enabling overclocking on budget non z chipset motherboards (H97, H87, B85 and H81) and you have a great way to upgrade on a budget. This will perform similar to a i3 setup but at lower cost.
The i3 is not a good value at this moment due to this new combo. I would either stick with a OC Pentium or move up to a budget i5.
The performance per dollar at current prices of the $90 260x (7790) and the $120 750ti are similar, it just depends on your budget and your power supply. Both are good cards and will run high settings well at 1080p.
As for the 750ti: If you have a low end power supply, get one that doesnt have the 6pin connector. If you have a better power supply, get one with a 6pin connector as the card is an excellent overclocker with low heat output, but requires the extra power to reach those speeds.

Can not install client in virtual machine

Posted by: dodgycookies.4562
Are you sure your virtual machine has direct3d acceleartion ie directx support and that it is enabled? the launcher/setup also uses graphics acceleration and will not run on virtual machines that do not have this feature enabled.
337.50 beta and later 337.88 whql reworked the way directx was handled and resulted in a lower cpu over head. Albeit it was mainly optimized for dx11, but the new process also improved dx9 performance.
http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/nvidia-geforce-337-50-beta-performance-driver
This is why it is important to keep your drivers up to date, especially with nvidia. One of the major benefits of the nvidia preimum pricing is that they have the resources to dedicate a large team to driver updates for performance enhancements. AMD tries, but it just doesn’t have the man hours and historically has slightly lagged behind on driver support and user experience.
i would not put in rewards for attempts, but rather add rewards for finishing the t1 and t2 bosses. that way the rewards for the gauntlet are not all or nothing.
Currently it is you either beat liadri, get the title and the mini, or get nothing. (a few tokens but they are worth very little). which i feel is slightly unfair.
Basically when the devs started making gw2 they chose to keep using the gw1 engine. For whatever reason, once that choice was made, there is really no going back. It would be probably easier at the moment to implement dx11 in the current engine than rewrite further for a third party engine.
Third party engines have many pluses, but come at a financial cost. My best guess was the during development, anet was not swimming in cash even with ncsoft support. The the cost in learning to use the new engine, man hours lost from not being able to use the old code/assets from gw1, and licensing costs was probably too much at the time and a decision was made to keep over head low and push development forward without an even higher burn rate.
Remember development was started in 2007 and headed into the great global recession as well. Credit and capital was virtually nonexistent for a year or so and a high capital burn rate was probably unacceptable in that financial environment. In hindsight, the decisions made hobbled the game performance and are bad for the game and players in general, but i can see a bit of the logic behind them as well.
Anet is only part of that 150 million profit. Remember a 200 man company with an industry average salary has a burn rate of a few million a month; to survive a bad game a reserve of a few hundred million is necessary. The only studio that has that kind of capital is blizzard. Most studios are pretty broke; if they were doing very well, there would be no need for publishers like ncsoft to even provide capital for development in the first place.

lower the prices on the upgrade extractors to half or 1/3rd the current cost plz
radeon pro adds smaa injection as well with a better gui than the text based sweetfx. Also has a pretty nice sweetfx configurator as well. But only works for amd cards.
The maker of sweetfx said he would like to defaul to the radeonpro implementation, but only does not due to the hardware restrictions.
I assume it is because the forge must use 4 components to work. Either it was 2 things worth skill points or 2 things worth gold. I guess they debated and went with the choice to add another gold sink into the game.
all ascended weapons and armor are crafted and account bound meaning you must level to 500 in the profession that makes the item you want as well. use Gw2crafts.net to level crafting and gw2spidy.com to help craft ascended weapons.

You can also try deleting local.dat settings file and do a -repair before you try to do a fresh install.
Because they consider it worth? If you have no gem store items there are plenty of items worthwhile to buy. Or they could just want more gold. $200 is jus pocket change to some players. I spend more than that on coffee per month.
What kind of coffee do you drink ?!
I live in a large city so prices at local coffee shops are a bit steep. Usually $7ish for a large drink including tax/tip. My usual one a day after lunch adds up to way more than i spend on gems per month.
This is the intended behavior. To keep stacking sigils buffs, the same type must be equipped on one of your water weapons. They did this to keep people from removing the stacking weapon, and keeping the buffs, thus gaining access to 3 sigils worth of benefits.
You can also try flawless widescreen. Third party tool to “fix” certain issues caused by non standard resolutions. Similar in implementation as sweetfx or Radeonpro.
I know which one you’re talking about. Built on the same engine as GW2 or at least similar but lacks a lot of balance when it comes to class differences. There’s also the fact that Korean grinder MMOs are generally horrible and PVP is heavily based on gears instead of overall build and skill. There’s a lot of appealing features like vehicle mounts, gliders, naval ships, the “justice system”, and the trade system but give it about 2 weeks and these things easily lose their spark because there really isn’t much depth to any of them.
Arch age uses cry engine 3 which is a modern fps engine that supports directx11. This is common in Korean mmos. Aion used cry engine 1, Tera blade and soul use unreal 3 Gw2 uses a custom engine based offed the one in gw1 that is pretty old and only supports directx9 atm
Set the laptop to high performance profile if it’s not already?
You mean in the Nvidia Control Panel? It’s already been set to it.
also do a cleaning. dust in the fans and heatsinks can lower performance.
Also thermal paste can go bad, so that may also be a thing that needs replacing.
Well, I have a laptop, so I can’t really do much other than dust it and swap HDDs/SSDs and RAM.
If you are technically inlined you can disassemble yor laptop and remove the heat sinks over the CPU/gpu and reapply the thermal paste with a high quality version, the re assemble
also do a cleaning. dust in the fans and heatsinks can lower performance.
Also thermal paste can go bad, so that may also be a thing that needs replacing.
Can I at least run GW2 on medium settings??

Mainly max settings at 1080p. high resoultions will require a better card.
750ti’s can run on 250w oem power supplies even when oced. Though i would suggest at least a 350w. The pcie bus max of 75 watts can handle stock but get the version with the 6 pin header for more overclocking headroom. 750ti can reach stable overclocks that outperform 660’s
For the core un-parking, see here:
http://www.coderbag.com/Programming-C/Disable-CPU-Core-Parking-Utility
and:
http://coderbag.com/Programming-C/CPU-core-parking-manager
(Both of these links are safe, and there is no malware/viruses from the downloads either (I use them both))
Basically, it will change a registry value to keep your cores un-parked (you can allow them to park as well, just change the setting) (sometimes, processors with multiple cores will ‘park’ cores to save power when they are not being used, and having to start them up again takes time (not much, actually)) and by leaving them un-parked can give you upwards of 5-10+ FPS (I gained around 10 or so for my i5 3210m which was constantly parking its two logical cores and one of the physical cores)
i use the first link and i do this , but my fps dont change, in wvw my fps his 10-15
That is the expected fps for large wvw zerg combat for your hardware
That’s a very good point. A tier 3 set at 800 gems to gold would be also a fair price
many instances they will give you your gems back and also allow you to keep the skin/tonic as well.
You have to consider the gems to gold not in raw terms but of the purchasing power of gold. I would say it will top out once 800 gems converted to gold can buy one of the more rare Black Lion or SAB skins (currently 120-150 gold ish) as that pricing seems fair when compared to current gem store prices for skins.
Question is why do players want to raid.
There are those who like and want hard team based content but do not really care about rewards, then a 10/25 man fractal system could work (but please no grinding fractal level from 1 though). In fractals low level rewards are the same/similar as high level rewards and nothing exclusive is locked out to those who only do levels lower ones (skins are random from 10+ so no lvl 40 required for rewards).
Then there are those who like the feeling of superiority. For those people hard content is not enough and require some unique rewards/skins/titles to show off. If an easier version of content provides similar rewards as harder content, then these players will just keep doing the easier version, as they are not in it for the content but for the rewards.
It really depends on the playerbase. However looking at how few people do high level fractals i would say a majority of the players are in the latter group, which is really really sad. Also look at complaint threads for any difficult content. Push back from locking rewards behind hard content is huge.
Over the past 2 years, Anet has for the most part trained the playerbase that time not skill is the most important thing in distinguishing pve achievements. Any deviation causes a riot among the “casuals”
All about how they market it. If they say: new cosmetic weapon skin available in the gem store and if you buy it we will throw in a short instance about the lore behind the item. People could be ok with it.
If they say: new exclusive content available for gems and with special cosmetic rewards, people will freak out.
Unparking cores can significantly reduce battery life as we’ll.
Because they consider it worth? If you have no gem store items there are plenty of items worthwhile to buy. Or they could just want more gold. $200 is jus pocket change to some players. I spend more than that on coffee per month.
omg yes, unlimited use upgrade extractor, especially now with the change to ascended gear and transmutation stones → wardrobe system.
Liadri is one of the few parts of the game where you cannot get carried by anyone. Which is why it is considered the only “difficult” pve encounter in the game. All the other pve achievements and encounters are group based with no tangible way to gauge individual skill. Liadri is either you can or you can’t, not about if your guild/party/zerg is good enough to clear the content.
As for bugs that is dependent on the individual and their skill level. Those who can kill her super fast every time will find her easy even with glitches as they have more time to recover, those barely making it to a kill will be more affected by such problems.

So your monitor is working and only giving a black screen when launching gw2?
delete the local.dat in your appdata folder.
do not delete the gw2.dat in your gw2 folder
any difficult bosses will have 1 shot mechanics to punish mistakes, if mistakes are recoverable then making them has no net effect on the kill. If shadowfall took 2 hits to kill you, that means for good players you can ignore it half the time, this means a good dps zerker can kill her before the second shadowfall and make the whole 2nd phase pointless. Ignorable mechanics that you face tank/brute force is bad encounter design. This has been true for most modern top end content (ie raids) in other games as well. Liadri is designed to those specs (stated in the dev preview) and is just a typical cookie cutter raid boss made solo.
If you have never done any recent top end content i can see where it is difficult, and must gain all the skills others have learned over many games in a short time, but for those who have done such content, liadri offers nothing new, is loosely tuned, and is what amounts to a check list of “must have mechanics” in any modern mmo end game pve encounter (multi-phases/add management/player positioning/cooldown management/debuff management/target switches/enrage timer).
Also with the introduction of the dodge/block and massive heals (respective to other games) all gw2 characters have, 1 shot mechanics is pretty much required to make anything difficult which is seen throughout the game in various difficult dungeon bosses. Only there mistakes arent punished due to the revive system.

Put in a ticket
go up to top right hover over services, and click support.
click submit a request on the top right.
also outfits cover up armor and have no cost other than the initial purchase.
Anet knows how hard it is, they knew it last year. They knew it during development as it was designed to be very difficult and stated so in the patch preview. They tested it for weeks prior to launch and only 4 of the 50 testers they had could beat her and still launched her despite knowing the majority will not be able to beat her.
With this thread and the complaint threads that are almost identical to those from last year, Anet fully knows the rage it induces in the playerbase. Also they have the player data from last year as well. If the gauntlet really caused players to quit in significant numbers, do you think they would have re-released it ?
(edited by dodgycookies.4562)
wouldn’t this make prices crash rather than go up? (think queens pavallion last year) i mean most of the money i get from drops isn’t in the form of coin but rather mats or blue/green gear that is salvaged into mats. Only gold drop dr implemented was in dungeons/gauntlet bag farm, but they fixed that with the whole daily bonus chests and boss table changes. Or champ bags i guess.

Could this computer run gw2 on max settings?
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: dodgycookies.4562
With your current setup? nothing
Cities are the same as wvw and world boss zergs, the large player numbers is what slows the game down. The only thing you can do is lower reflections/shadows/character model limit+quality.
Hardware fixes are basically get the fastest i7 and overclock the crap out of it, and you might get decent fps in a city.
Casual used to mean not putting in a lot of hours not unskilled, but that definition has changed somewhat. If you know your class and can figure out mechanics, clearing all 12 bosses for the first time takes about 30 minutes(excluding waiting time and bugs/glitches) I would call half an hour of game time to clear 1/3rd of the current living story content pretty casual.
Yes it takes time to learn that skill, but the game is 2 years old. Even at a super leisurely pace, getting to 80 and a set of exotics with a class is more than enough time to explore mechanics and familiarize yourself enough to clear liadri.

Max settings? no High? yes
Also depends on your resoultion. @1080p yes mainly high/ultra will run around 60fps not including zergs/cities/wvw.
at $100 depnding on sales a r7 260x (rebadged 7790) is your best solution. if you want to spend a bit more you can find the 750ti’s or r7 265 (rebadged 7850) for about $120 or if you want to spend less r7 250x’s (rebadged 7770) can be found for as little as $60
All have similar price/performance ratios so pick based on your budget.

I apologize for being terse. I was a bit irked at those deriding something they had a knee jerk reaction to despite not knowing what was offered and how it was implemented.
Yes, from my perspective of players already paying for services, a the “vip” convenience services seems to be a good idea. it is never a good feeling to be spending money on a service knowing that a better one is available for less, but just not to me. So a $15 worth of gems per month item seems “essential” because of what i am already currently paying for.
I respect those of differing opinions and was only making a suggestion and trying to be informative. Though i have discovered that my definition of the boundaries of a pay 2 win game is an uncommon one. It is up to the devs to weigh the risks and benefits and roi of adding such a item. From the reactions of those in the forum, i would say that the chances are remote. But I look at what i believe to be a better service and longingly sigh with a bit regret at what could be.
(edited by dodgycookies.4562)
Just buy a bunch of Vip access for all your character. Personally I have 9 permanent bank licnese.
Congratz? I personally dont have that much gold, and atm the gems to gold conversion is a bit low for me to consider buying it with gem to gold conversion. it would cost $200 for all 3 perm merchants which isn’t too bad considering, but if i am spending $200 i would want it to be account bound. But you still have to keep them in your bag. Can you use while auto running? In no way are the current items better than the china implementation. If you have that much gold to buy 9 perm bankers, i am sure you would have enough gold to buy a month long instant services access pass which would be better in every way.
Edit i take your point in that if the current items were better people feel forced to buy it. I guess i draw the line on features “essential to game play” differently.
(edited by dodgycookies.4562)
i have all the terrace/airship passes but they are still only usable for 1 character at a time and you have to leave your map/where ever you are. and are unsuable in wvw , which is why i spend gems on merchants/tp/ and the bank golem more expensive but more convenient, however still only usable on 1 character at a time. Even if i spend thousands of gold on the permanent versions, the “item must be in inventory” problem still exists.
Have you seen the china gw2 interface? it is awesome. Sell/bank/tp straight from your inventory interface on any character without special items in your bags. And no taking up bag slots with lots of items. That is what i want. if its free so much the better, but we know it wont be free.
the items and services are already in game/gem store in an inferior form and are not going away. If you disagree that is your perogative and from that perspective the game is arealdy p2w. But realistically speaking ncsoft/anet are not going to remove them. But for those who do already buy the items, they already put in the development for a better version. I just want to choice to be able to buy that version
(edited by dodgycookies.4562)
No, i am asking for a item on the gem store that offers a bundled account wide instant merchant tp and bank access on a monthly basis. Same as the current items, but cheaper and better. Does not have to be labeled “vip” or anything else. Why is cheaper and better a bad thing?
I could say the reverse if you consider instant merchants, tps, and bank golems to be unfair, then perhaps this isn’t the game for you?
I am already buying and spending on average 1600 gems a month for these services. The china version has the exact same services i am currently paying 1600 gems for bundled together at a cost of 1250 per month for sale on the gem store. How can this be a bad thing to improve the current items in the gem store while lowering the cost at the same time?
The rest of the vip system is crap, i just want the convenience implementation. But any word of “vip” and people freak out and close their minds to the actual cool and good stuff that anet developed for china.
(edited by dodgycookies.4562)
Gold is not worth much. Gold to gems is so high because many players have lots of gold and don’t want to spend money on the game. Those with money and buy gems do not really convert too much to gold as they also make gold in the course of game play that is sufficient for their daily needs.
Imo there are only a few non gem store drops/items that make converting gems to gold a worthwhile proposition. On the other hand the gem store always has new things for sale that make players want to convert gold to gems.
Perhaps I should have been more specific. It is only for sale on the china gw2 gem store for a price of 1250 gems/30 days, though they could adjust the pricing and duration for the na/eu market. It is not a direct sale of money to subscription. No cash money needs to be paid if you have the gold. You can only buy it in the gem store and can use gold to gems conversion to gain access. As i said before, it is the same as the current convenience items just bundled together at a lower cost and with a better account wide implementation.
You guys should research what is actually included in the vip/royal system and how it is implemented in china before deriding it as a “subscription”. It is pretty fair imo, with a few major caveats, and for the most part not pay to win. This is what i mean by an irrational fear of anything resembling a subscription and leaving the na/eu gems store with inferior products.
As for “sub” gifts.. it would be like..do i want to pay 1000 gems only for the infinite gathering tool? or pay 1250 gems for the tool and also get instant bank access for the next 30 days. I don’t see that as pay to win at all and a better value than what is currently on the gemstore.
I understand the anet promise of a no sub everything is fair gw2. But I am a realisitic person. They have already implemented the convenience items and boosters for gems and they are not going back. Why not make the convenience items better? It would not change any current game play or costs, be cheaper in gems as a whole, and have account wide access which makes the items that are bought have even more value. As long as instant services provide no tangible game play advantage then i see no reason to make these items even better than their current implementation.
