Who was on that Briar treb, trying to counter our trebs by firing cows at it?
Me, but just to annoy you a bit – the Briar treb was down to ~60% before you set up your trebs, AoEd by your eles, so i wouldn’t be able to counter you anyway – have some cows then!
We sieged up Briar to make it a deathtrap, if only you entered through the door…
RiOT – those two trebs at Vale to get into unupgraded Briar with us being outmanned… actually saved you a few deaths but still, overkill
Tried to call them off a few times, none listened. We all are deeply ashamed.
I guess the point is that RoS started the whole ‘blob whining’ thingie and people around will keep pointing it out to you whenever possible for a while. Keep calm and carry on, stop the nonsense.
And your guild is probably one of the last ones on Gh that should talk about other ppl blobbing.
As “the blob’s” leader, supreme commander and dictator, all i can say i am really proud of what we’re pulling off, getting PvErs into our WvW events, fielding up to 60~70 guildies on one map (last reset) and getting much more organised, while still retaining our laidback PvX philosophy. I am really not getting the whole ‘anti-blob hate’ that’s been going on in this thread, and the only reason i see behind it is simple lack of understanding and, i don’t know, a note of envy perhaps – especially when some random guild’s zerg wipes you a bit more often than dies itself.
One thing i have noticed, too, especially about RoS, is that you guys seem to focus way too much on your guild groups over general server coordination. You have some really dangerous and capable guild teams, but you are still limited by your numbers – be it in on-the-spot fights or macro strategies. I haven’t seen your chat, never been to your voip, never really talked with anyone to check how does it look there either, but my impression is that you have several cells operating separately, coming together only from time to time, valuing running with your guild tags over the server’s performance. Those cells, those tags, are really capable of miracles, some fights you guys pulled off could have been done only by true virtuosi of tactical warfare, but there’s only so much you can do alone.
GH is not winning thanks to crashes happening more to our enemies, because overcoming Surmia’s point domination with a ~15k lead is way too much to attribute to that. We’re not winning thanks to some of our miraculous ‘getting more skilled’ in no time. We’ve never allied nor agreed on anything with either of the enemies, or any of your guilds (except for GvGs).
We simply came together, embraced our pugs, organised a cross guild push in RoS (http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/4733/gw079a.jpg) and cross guild defences in GH bl to fend off Dz, who have been hitting our map the whole week (which is, actually, most understandable, even if there were no crashes anywhere!).
We’ve had a really balanced and nice matchup, with a pretty unexpected reset (i thought RoS would be the strongest come reset and weekend, turned out to be the opposite) and an even more unexpected finish. Appreciate the fights, the pushes, the flips, and have fun despite the technical problems or just take a break until they’re fixed.
Kudos to both enemies – your constant pressure is what makes our server come closer together and learn all the time, mainly on our mistakes. Some fights we’ve had this week were really great, too, and i hope we’ll have a similarly exciting matchup next week.
We really wanted to open that door!
You guys are brilliant!
RoS. You’re acting like little, poor kids now, cursed by fate, while everyone around is either gloriously pure (Dz ‘not invading’ you, because of ‘fair play’ – just sitting in our BL/corner all the time) or endlessly evil (GH ‘exploiting’ the situation and being ‘unfair’, winning ‘only due to crashes’).
All i am saying is that we all have skill lag, mass crashes, dps drops, and all the other issues you’re coping with. We dced a lot during our attacks and defences, too – we were just either lucky enough not to lose everyone due to a dc (but one person miraculously stayed to man a cart against Dz rams on our Bay this morning, while other people couldn’t even reconnect for a while) or we just panic-called other GHians for aid when it was needed.
You started whining about blobbing – which, as one righteous dude from RoS said, you do as well. Now moved onto crashes – which affect everyone. What will be your tomorrow’s scapegoat?
funny to see GH not having DC problems as much as both other servers have
Just crashed for the fifth time in 30 minutes on Dz BL.
It’s just random, deal with it.
I’m not sure we can talk about any kind of ‘fair game’ since the weekend night of this matchup, so seriously, just cope with the bugs like we all have to
…and somehow you’ve taken Garrison and Hills back. I know there are the dc bugs, but they really affect everyone and they’re not THAT severe. Or perhaps i’ve just seen worse in other games.
Have fun despite the problems, i say.
Guys. I personally crashed four times while taking your keeps. Missed flipping of Hills and Garrison. Same as half the GH team. Most left your BL asap, leaving Sunny, because we couldn’t stand the dcs anymore.
It’s far from being one-sided, and we’re far from being unaffected by it. Man up
We kept crashing like crazy. We just kept running back from spawn all the time rather than whine about bugs
Jong – we crashed en masse too, at Klovan indeed, with 2 rams up and the gate at 80% or so. Bugs happen :p
And yeah, it was us at Jerri – our small force, actually, while our main team was flipping Dz stuff, just keeping you busy in your corner in the meantime ^^
- tonight’s GH EB commander bows to both opponents *
Riot runs a lot in blobs too, only guild I’ve seen running around alone most of the time is FIRE. We (MM) had organized gvg vs FIRE.
Is there a video of your gvg with fire out of interest? If not would still like to know the how it score
Afaik we got obliterated, but fun was had and lessons were learned.
Not all, although yup, you were outmanned for the first ~2 hours, simply because you split your resources on other maps. And then Dz happened on your BL, wiping us both from your garrison
The whole ‘blob talk’ is annoying, just cut it folks
Re: reset – it wasn’t the ‘entire server’s blob’:
http://imageshack.us/a/img842/890/gw065a.jpg
http://imageshack.us/a/img10/946/gw068e.jpg
That said, our WvW population is very volatile and we usually pull off that kind of numbers on resets only. We also never claimed we’re a ‘pr0 WvW guild’, and we enjoy losing in a fun fight just as much as winning.
What i personally do not enjoy is whining about the game’s design – it seems that people got used to coverage discrepancies and nightcapping, so now ‘blobbing’ and ‘zerging’ are the ‘whinings of the month’.
We really have a pretty balanced matchup, with every team fielding superior numbers at some point, smashing the other two, with each team being focused by both enemies from time to time, and with decent threeways. Just enjoy it
And if you have a 60man single guild team, with like 5 additional players who just joined it, are you blobbing, zerging or running in a guild group?
I’m afraid we’re getting into the philosophy and nomenclature of mass PvP teams instead of just enjoying the game and fights that are to be had, regardless of situation. Seriously, enjoy the show
I still don’t get what the whole ‘blobbing’ is – is it about fielding more people from your guild than an enemy guild does? Is it about people from various guilds and groups coming together and running together in WvW?
I see absolutely no problem with either, same as i see no problem with uneven coverage. Whining about blobbing is getting old now, chaps, and as ridiculously silly as whining about terrible nightcapping. That’s how the game is designed, keep that in mind.
Re: Bay – this is a known bug, and it happens; as Fab said, the problem is the glitched player’s behaviour. Still awaiting Ilesyt’s reaction, hopefully a mediative one.
Oh, a [DEX] glitcher – awaiting Ilesyt’s response. I do know that glitches at Bay happen, but the correct response would be to port back or relog…
Man, Dz sure put a lot of effort into this reset. Salutations for dedication and great opportunism (RoS garrison ), but also really decent play o/
Meeting up for a dance party in roughly 90 minutes (30 minutes before the reset) at the red mill. No fights unless some folks want to duel and agree to, just a casual social meet and greet, take a look at your opponents, honour the matchup. Everyone’s welcome to join – or not, but please just don’t crash the party
Kudos to AS and WSR for a really interesting matchup so far. Everything’s been a revitalising breeze after the matchups with RoS, except for Eclipse’s constant whining. We all will endure one crying princess, though and no worries, he’s not painting us a picture of the whole server, just himself
Ilesyt directed his reply at GH, but failed with the quotation.
Eclipse – MM is everywhere, i guess (at least on GH / AS / EB), we’re really spread out unless it’s a scheduled guild event, and just commanding in AS BL because no one else from GH really ventures there so far. Anyway, we’re not the whole server and we’re not at blue Hills because of any cross-guild or -server feud, neither we are as cool in WvW as teams like VotF or VcY
but seeing GH people posting here saying they know what its like to be outnumbered and say only Vabbi and Fow had it worse is just insulting.
Hey, Ilesyt is not from GH, he’s from RoS :p
the T3 and WP on our hill is just a random bonus, like your MM guild always here?
We fought WSR earlier – great fights, nice people. Made some friends from TEO and other guilds in the process.
We somehow missed Arborstone for a long time, and never fought you guys in those low tiers before, unless i was out for a whole week when that happened. So yeah, we’re more eager to play with you a tad
There’s no ‘focusing’, though, and no server-wide plan to ‘boot’ either AS or WSR from t8. Best we can do is wait until the new mutant climbs back up to where it belongs and t7/t8 gets balanced again.
An honest conundrum for me – can someone explain me the hate behind ‘blobbing’, ‘grouping up’ and ‘playing along’ with other guilds?
Last time i checked, WvW wasn’t anything close to GvG, in its standard design, but a realm vs realm kind of mass PvP. What’s the problem, then?
Not like anyone gets hurt by someone posting a screen of the tricolour pie, from any hour
As was mentioned, there are some really great teams and people out there, but i believe the mutual consensus is that the sooner the matchup changes, the better for all involved :p
@Genotix – sit back, have a laugh and enjoy the show

It’s not really a British/American english issue, as the word is a borrowing from Hebrew and should be read more or less the same way as there, although obviously anglicised over the years. Even then, you can’t make your own rules just because of ignorance, and if a dialect does so, it’s best to keep some of more extreme variations within that dialect unless you want to be laughed at.
The correct pronunciation is, roughly, ‘goh-lem’ (/??o?l?m/ ), but also a ‘go-lem’ would be fine (/???l?m/ ). There is no ‘a’ sound, tho, and i quite often heard people speaking it there – although Merriam-Webster seems to permit an accented ‘a’ sound after the initial consonant, this would be the heavily americanised version, possibly hard to understand for native speakers. Be careful not to say /??oil?m/, especially to someone who knows Hebrew :p

Oh boy, my pretty IPA characters got all ???-d.

Popping my head in to say hi. o/
Heres to a good week, can we have a party at the end?
Aisi x
We are having a party – in Gunnar’s Hold’s Hoelbrak, on Friday, at 8pm GMT+1. Props for reminding =)
http://www.gunnars-hold.eu/threads/1230-Costume-Brawl-Extravaganza-III-26-04-(Friday)-8pm-GMT-1
Everyone is invited to join us there via guesting, and unless there’s a hard head-to-head rivalisation for a spot on the box, that shouldn’t be much of a problem for anyone.
Why Hoelbrak and not just some spot in WvW? So that we can actually sit together and talk, and have fun without limitations or party poopers. If it collides with the GvGs and duels, you can join up a bit later – or just start the duels an hour earlier/later =)
Because of the new reset times, we’re moving the event’s start 30 minutes ahead. See you tomorrow at 7.30pm GMT+1 o/
Collecting screens of myself, wearing a tag, stomping enemy commanders is one of my guilty pleasures. There’s nothing to brag about, it doesn’t give any specific advantage, or anything like that, but it is indeed more fun for some reason.
The attitude presented on /t might also explain why you feel being ‘blobbed’ – we’ve heard of you quite a bit and we’re being cautious not to let you spread your wings too much, so to speak.
Nothing personal, or at least nothing negative – if anything, [RiOT] and [VcY] are seen as main threats in this matchup, so you can be proud of yourselves :p

Wow… GH resorts to Viz tactics to beat RiOT… seriously guys? most of the guilds that recently joined your server did so to escape the blob not to become part of it….
sorely disappointed…
Sorry, but what are Viz tactics? I don’t know their playstyle, never cared how t1 actually works, and you made me genuinely curious now.
We were having some great fun tonight before you decided to blob up like that. Such a pity…
That’s an interesting comment, given that most of our teams actually are not ‘trained’ enough to ‘blob’. Are you sure you’re not simply projecting what you’ve seen in t1 and what you’re used to onto this matchup?
We did have an amazing turnout, in general, and high numbers on the reset, but that’s simply down to two factors – new server to fight in the matchup and the reset being 2h earlier.
Curiously enough, i didn’t have any lag, skill nor any other, while in RoS bl, so i guess it’s still not as bad as in t4+
As for splitting up into little groups… I never saw GH split into little groups all night except for one camp capping group I bumped into on my way to joining my guild when I first logged in (about an hour after reset). We were fighting greater numbers of foes most of the night…
We had three guild teams in RoS bl, two big groups and one smaller, plus some friendlies. We did try to split a number of times, and we even did, but then we had you guys besiege Lake or hit somewhere in a team stronger than either of our split-offs, so we called reinforcements, fought you, and then split again
In general, complaining about numbers or tactics seems really silly. If you want limited PvP, play tournaments or wait until Friday and call out for a limited GvG, i’m sure some teams would respond. WvW is designed to be an unbalanced mass PvP. It’s not like we’re complaining how you wiped us at our first Garrison attempt, mainly due to superior numbers, are we? We learned the lesson and were faster next time :p
But really, the bottom line is: been very enjoyable so far, so don’t get fixated on who wins and how in a massive PvP environment, just enjoy the fights and meet new people. No reason to bring the ‘numbers argument’ into this all
In the name of the whole guild, Midnight Mayhem [MM], i’d like to thank RoS for great fights and pushes in your BL so far.
You wiped us. We wiped you. RoS tried Hills and failed, GH tried Bay and failed. The fights for your Garrison, the trebs at Stargrove, the siege of Greenlake. Much, much fun.
Special shoutout to [RiOT], [FA] and [VcY] for keeping us entertained this evening. Haven’t seen any [DEX] nor [FRS] yet, looking forward to meeting you on the battlefield.
…just feedback Lupi before he releases the projectiles causing that mass AoE, and enjoy the show.
Going Mist Form, Armor of Earth or Arcane Shield on an ele is known to cause such problems. Using invulnerability-granting skills while gathering as well.
Someone was destroying the barrels, just like that, without finding Sotzz. Aka there were those ~300 barrels, let’s say ~250 were destroyed (just because someone passing through could, or the other guilds already have), but Sotzz was hiding in one of the ~50 remaining barrels.
He doesn’t spawn on-chance at any barrel, he has a pre-determined one spot for each spawn and won’t show up until that particular barrel has been destroyed. There may be only 1 barrel left on the map, the one with Sotzz, in some more obscure spot.
Many new randoms joined the server, some new guilds too who refused to use our community site or teamspeak. Or who don’t even communicate with other commanders on the map. [ the bit about queues ] The new randoms (and I am sure not all, just the majority), were bad. They died in a breeze and didn’t listen to commanders. The /m was just disgusting to read. Full with people thinking they were the best and knew it all. Asking them to join teamspeak or join the commander resulted in remarks and laughter. We went down from having 30+ people in teamspeak for the EB map to 3.
Except for very long queues, other servers, including mid-low tier, have had the same issues. True truth.
It’s not so much the transfers that ‘did’ anything bad to you guys, it’s the queue system getting into your old order of how things ran. An abrupt change, and keeping your old SFR players out from the field simply because of queues.
What i have quoted above, aka without the queues part, is what’s happened to many servers out there, to some degree (relative to the server’s actual WvW focus and tier), but those problems are temporary. It’s the queues that rightfully outrage you, but i’m not sure if the system isn’t to be blamed rather than the transferers.
Lv80 green berserker gear?
Do not forget about your jewelry, too – it actually can give you more stats than your armor. And don’t go berserker/ruby
I have a guildie, who happens to be also a decent and respected EB commander, who starts every chat utterance with a capital letter and ends his sentences with full stops (arrogant side of me says – when talking about sentence structure, there are no ‘periods’). Would be plain silly to try and see anything wrong about it, tbh, although it does look a bit odd at the beginning, simply because it stands out.
We knew we wouldn’t be able to display it when we started clicking. Man up.
We’ve done 5 out of possible 6 challenges tonight (despite throwing ~20 instances, we never got one to pop ). Just one thing: WELL DONE!
Some are fairly easy (skritt, crab), some are really hard (quaggans, supplies), but they are all very very fun.
Some details and pictures – http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1c7ylg/first_guild_challange_done_by_midnight_mayhem_mm/
[later on we actually kept trying until we managed to successfully finish all of them, except the one in the Branded Mine, which never popped]
We started our first challenge today and got Blightwater Shatterstrike.
We completed it with no issues. Really well designed, fun stuff.
Then, we continued doing challenges, because why not – the novelty factor is strong, the design seems nice, so we wanted to play through a bit more of them, just for fun.
We did two other challenges, popped the fourth and got Blightwater Shatterstrike again.
That’s no biggie – we thought we’d just polish our strategy for it to avoid any hiccups for future.
But then it was bugged.
No charzookas spawned.
The mission wasn’t recognised as [MM]’s, with the banner staying blank, not displaying our emblem.
I also dont remember to see either one of GH´s or DZ´s keeps on EB flip when i was online, so i guess that observation goes three ways.
Any commander out there that claimed an enemy keep on EB this week?
Actually each time GH managed to paint whole EB green, it was Dz corner the first to fall, with their keep being flipped more often than RoF.
If by ‘claimed’ you mean actually claimed and popped the emblem, i did a few times, but i think it was only the Dz keep.
Your feedback is important to us. Please stay on the forums and your concerns will be addressed by the next available dev. :P
I’m glad to be making WvW better and while I’m the face of the team to you guys, don’t forget all the hard work from everyone else on the team. I’d be doing nothing without them.
Yay whole team \o/
But that’s about the improved communication, much more than the dev input in general – seeing your and Josh’s posts all over your respective sections is SO encouraging.
e:
The communication from Anet regarding our (the wvw communities) concerns has a long way to go. For example LAG, LAG, LAG, is it going to be fixed? Can it be fixed? When will it be fixed. But i doubt a solid informative responce will be incoming.
It’s actually been already addressed within the forums – known, being worked on, no ETA. Use the Dev Tracker. The overall communication has much improved, with Devon and Josh being the main faces of the change (Gaile has always been VERY active and helpful, but she’s working on the technical account issues – i feel it’s something different than actually having people behind the in-game stuff talk with players).
