are only warrior and thief released yet?
Hi,
Does anyone know where I can find the class changes from the ready-up sessions? I can see the warrior one on their forums but not every class.
Thanks
It’s quite simple really.
If the only life threatening incoming damage can be avoided, you only need as much defense as mistakes you foresee yourself making.
As you improve as a player, you make less mistakes, correctly time your dodges/blocks, and do not need defensive stats. This means you can gear zerker.
It does not mean all zerkers are good players, many use zerker gear without the correct dodge/block timings. However there is little reason for a good player to gear for anything except more dps, since they will naturally avoid life threatening damage anyway.
If you increase the amount of unavoidable damage, thus forcing people to gear defensive/regenerative, this has two very negative impacts on the game:
Reduced reliance on player skill.
Reduced reliance on an active style of combat.
Personally I would like to see fights where not only are blocks/dodges required to keep a zerker alive, but there is also enough unavoidable damage to require a dedicated healer. Some changes need to be made to allow this though: currently heals, boons and support skills are mostly far too low radius to be useful which is actually one of the reasons why we see lots of stacking.
Interestingly, and I’ve said it for a while now (the fight may have changed since I last logged in) Mai Trin is easymode if you simple have a dedicated guardian healer. You can all literally just stack on the guardian and afk her to 0%.
Or is it only armor and weapons?
This is the toughness/vitality/healing power gear btw.
I would be interested in crafting a set if I could get trinkets as well. Being able to alt-tab/afk meta events and WvW should make everything pretty easy. I could probably dual-screen a second game to play while I do this.
PvE is not an esport
And yet we had a tournament a few days ago.
I’d like to start by saying thank you to the various guilds for the effort involved in organising the event and for participating. Additionally there is no denying the skill displayed, in reflexes, game knowledge and muscle memory.
Having said that, the number of viewers wasn’t spectacular. Placing the viewer counts, forum commentators and Anet financial reports side by side I draw two conclusions.
A) Proportionally, the forums are more vocal about competitive pve than the wider player base.
B) The amount of players interested in competitive pve is very small compared to the overall player base. If this were false, either the pve tournament viewer counts would be higher or the Anet financial reports would paint a much different and darker picture.
Once again I want to make it clear that I’m not trying to talk down what you achieved or how you play the game, just that I can understand why this scene isn’t Anet’s top priority.
Been away for ages. Got a few questions.
This new healing / toughness / vitality gear… Which stat is the major one?
Is PvE still all about zerker dps?
Are fractal rewards still rubbish?
Can I go finish up the S1 achievements I missed?
Are world events (eg shatterer, behemoth, jormag) still dull zerg-fests or do I have to pay attention now?
Thanks
The interest in this tournament feels incredibly low, and forced. It’s a real shame.
It’s not the gear. Having the confidence to run glass cannon, relying on your own knowledge of the fight and reflexes to keep you alive, signifies that you are an experienced and good player. That is why people look primarily for zerkers.
I choose to rely on my knowledge of the fight and dodge reflexes to keep me alive rather than sit in tank gear. I take more risk in my playstyle. Are you saying I don’t deserve something in exchange for being glassy?
In any pve fight, if you can’t keep yourself alive in full tank/cleric gear, no amount of active dodges, blinds, blocks etc will keep you alive because the damage is clearly far too high for skill to harp ve an impact.
If you make mobs hit faster but for less damage you greatly diminish the usefulness of active gameplay, thus rendering the gameplay boring and passive. This would be a bad thing.
Did you know a precursor box comes with the chinese subscription plan?
Upsetting.And we’re quite sure there’s a pre-cursor in it?
Absolutely. Dr Who assured me.
Did you know a precursor box comes with the chinese subscription plan?
Upsetting.
I fixed it for you.
This. Wp GG!
I’m sorry I came across rude to begin with when I couldn’t see it was a pvp/wvw build (this truly is trash in pve), but I still think Guardians are in a bad position when it comes to condition diversity.
In order to understand what will and won’t work/become meta it’s important to understand why existing things work.
Condition engis, blackwater mesmers and necros for example:
Multiple conditions means great difficulty in removing them reliably. High chance you will cleanse something other than the most damaging one. Many of these builds can reliably apply a huge variety of conditions. How many can the guardian apply?
There’s no escape – How do you avoid an incendiary ammunition or a dhuumfire proc? You can’t. You can dodge some attacks, but dodges don’t proc failed procs. The proc will sit waiting until a hit connects. This is huge because your high impact hits will never fail you. Compare this with purging flames which has an obvious cast time and animation. Unless you can force a fight inside the circle, they will simply avoid it.
Low duration, high reapplication – further lessens the impact of cleansing. How many different ways to we have to apply the same conditions? Compare this with a staff mesmer with 3 clones out all throwing burn/bleed/critbleed every second.
Time buying – What abilities do we have to prolong the fight? Compare this with the sheer amount of cc/stealth/life vamp the above classes.
How much of the condition damage on a mesmer/engineer/necro comes from traits/weapons and how much comes from utilities? If we want more ways to apply our conditions we have to use our utility slots. A mesmer for example will simply load up on blinks and stealths. An engi can build up a huge amount of bleed/poison/burn without bothering with utils/sigils.
That was all from a spvp point of view. From a wvw point of view I think it’s as simple as saying I’d rather be loading up on group stabilities and regen/prot utilities. Damage you personally absorb via high toughness/sustain is just as good as extra group healing. Things like sigil of water are incredible at the moment so it would be a shame to have to put condition sigils on your weapon. I can’t even see the damage you are talking about – I watched the video and honestly the burning damage ticks I can see floating around even when you are attacking a stacked group seem both low and far fewer targets than I would have hoped for (I would have hoped that multiple targets would become afflicted by your burning, but I rarely saw more than the 5 most recent targets taking damage).

Have you considered using staff with the pbaoe burn trait in virtues? Easier application, less vulnerable to cleanses, great at covering other conditions.
Also, apothecary gear for wvw support? All the sustain and ehp of healway cleric but with conditions instead of power.
All of this was possible before patch, so consider why it wasn’t being used.
Spirit Druid build so overpowered but so secret.
There really is no need to call the video bad, or to say there is any flawed logic.
“potential dmg is 5 enemies * 1.5k-2k * 10-15 seconds => 75000k – 150000k”
I don’t see any variable here which is accurate.
You have no guarantee to hit 5 people who aren’t already burning. With dire gear you’ll need like 3000 condition damage just to hit 1.5k dmg per second. 10-15 sec duration is totally random. And the k symbol in the output is misplaced. You can’t tell your wvw group to wait for the engage just because your tome is on cooldown. Simply hitting with staff will likely provide more damage output than this.
The up side is that you are covering other conditions and eating up cleanses which can be useful, but you could do that in pvt gear.
To be fair I don’t see wvw mentioned either.
Not all of us have the inclination to watch a bad youtube clip or the ability to access youtube. You should explain the build and purpose in the original post.
Besides, both the math and logic are still totally flawed.
Awful build and logic. Almost all of your pve enemies will be perma burned anyway for the short duration of their life.
Therefore how much damage are you actually adding over what would have been inflicted anyway? Probably about 33% of a few burning ticks. And that’s why a condition Guardian will be kicked from any serious pve group.
Why would you use trooper/soldiers runes when you only have one group wide shout on your bar?
I never understood pvt gear on a wvw guard. You get like 10% more Dps on an already low Dps build compared with just going cleric. If the lack of vitality worries you just mix in some Sentinel gear as mentioned above.
You’re not sacrificing much Dps for your added tankyness and group support. Imo warriors sacrifice a lot less and gain a lot more Dps by going more offensive so I’d rather let them deal the majority of the damage while I support.
I certainly wouldn’t kick a phalanx strength warrior from my groups. Diversity achieved imo.
Fractal frequenter here, account level 50. Do 1 or 2 runs per day usually. 1 fractal skin, 1 asc weapon, nothing else. Definitely seems like low reward. Sorry I can’t help with more data.
Buy dolyak runes and benevolent sigils before obal reveals the new meta.
If you have 10 seconds of Protection and you immediately cast and drop out of the Tome, does it erase your boons? Or is the duration of the infinite Protection from the Tome simply “covering up” the expiration of the others?
If you are sitting in Tome, and use the skill which gives 10 seconds of protection to everyone (or if an ally gives you a protection boon) and the tome expires, you lose everything.
It’s possible, but if you turn up in cleric gear to a fotm or most dungeons you will probably get kicked. A lot of dungeons specifically ask for speedclear, zerker etc (which a cleric is not suited for).
As for actual builds, I’m fond of 0/0/20/30/20 with mace (battle presence, absolute resolution and mace +250 healing power) or 0/0/10/30/30 with staff (battle presence, absolute resolution and elite focus).
When you use Tome of Courage, if you have any protection boons applied to yourself via Hammer’s Symbol of Protection, Hold the Line utility, Virtue of Courage, the Protective Spirit spell from the Tome itself, or just any protection granted to you by your allies… when the Tome expires you lose all of your protection boon.
Has anyone else noticed? When you use Tome of Courage, if you have any protection boons applied to yourself via Hammer’s Symbol of Protection, Hold the Line utility, Virtue of Courage, the Protective Spirit spell from the Tome itself, or just any protection granted to you by your allies… when the Tome expires you lose all of your protection boon.
Dredge wouldn’t be so bad if you could blind them and the respawns were more reasonable. My biggest problem with zerg enemies with a high rate of attack is that well timed blocks, dodges and blinds aren’t rewarded.
I know it’s a debatable subject but I miss the trinity and feel it allows for far more interesting fight mechanics. Sunstrider, vashj, shade of aran, alar, reliquary, gorefiend etc.. I see no fights in gw2 which are as intricate or as fun as that. If the no trinity system truly allowed for better pve, why haven’t we seen it yet?
People forget that you gain far more effective health and survivability from pvt gear than you gain Dps from zerker gear.
From a statistical point of view, defensive stats already offer a far better bang for your buck.
The problem is.. Defensive stats could be absolutely amazing and people would still ignore them because they simply aren’t needed. This clearly shows us the problem is not the gear but the game.
Problem : increasing the rate of attacks and lowering their damage results in active defense such as block blind and dodge being significantly less useful, resulting in a far less engaging and active game.
Logan Thackeray is the best.
3 x Retreat on his bar.
“the 125 Precision as a final bonus, equates to 6% Precision. Assuming you are not already at 100% Precision this should equal the 7% flat damage bonus as long as your Critical Damage modifier is above ~215%. "
I don’t think you understand how damage modifiers work in this game. They are multiplicative. So that 7% actually ends up being more like 11%+.
I have 200% crit damage and 74% crit chance with fury before runes.
That’s 1.74x base damage.
I also have 10% damage from zeal2, 5% damage from zeal7, 10% from radiance, 5% from virtues, 10% from potions, 5% from force. That’s 54% more damage in total.
1.74 * 1.54 = 2.679x base damage.
With 125 more precision from Pack runes (crit chance goes up to 80%):
1.8x base damage.
1.8 * 1.54 = 2.772x base damage.
Even if I only consider the 7% damage modifier from the strength runes, the formula becomes this:
1.74 * 1.648 = 2.867x base damage.
So Strength already has Pack beaten for damage without considering the 45% longer might duration and proc. The Pack proc is pointless because your elementalist should provide perma fury. You don’t even need to be a might stacking class for runes of strength to outclass runes of the pack, you only need 1 single might boon.
Finally it’s “when struck”. You don’t really want to be taking any hits in a high level fractal. Archdiviner for example will just oneshot you.
Runes of Scholar are even better dps if you can maintain the 90% hp. I’ve found that Runes of Strength need to give you on average ~5 stacks of might more than normal to yield the same level of dps, which I find unlikely.
I haven’t touched my thief for at least several months but I’m looking for something new to play on alt-days. It’s hard to tell from the many different forum threads complaining or not complaining… soo..
How are they for pve/zerg-wvw/roam-wvw/spvp nowadays?
So are 29 and 38 the popular ones now for ascended chests?
I have previously suggested to anet that a lot of players would pay gems/money to customise the audio sounds on their shout abilities. I can’t stand my warrior alt shouting “for great justice”. It sounds goofy.
(Amongst other suggestions, such as paying for animation changes. Green fire anyone?)
I haven’t seen this posted on the official forums yet.
Level 41-50 : 159 opened, 9 asc armor, 1 asc weapon.
All credit to DanDaze & LOD.
IMO this simply isn’t good enough for the most challenging pve ‘dungeon’ in the game.
I have to LoL about suggestions to run scholar runes and bring no defense, i.e. no means to clear conditions, on warriors.
Eh? Leave that to the other classes. Bring your axes, zerker gear, scholar runes and banners plx. Nothing more is required from a warrior. Ele will take care of fury/might. Guard will take care of condis.
Frostbow.

I’m finding it hard to verify but it definitely looks like a lot more than 4-5 aegis being thrown out every time I block. It looks like it might be everyone in 360 range.
I’ve seen a dozen aegis thrown out just because I blocked once.
Can anyone else verify? This is going to be very interesting in zergs/wvw if true.
Having done some math on it, it appears Stength runes require an additional 4-5 stacks of might (4 if not very buffed, 5 if fairly buffed by empower allies, banners, spotter, other might/fury stacks etc) to be active before it starts to out-dps Scholar.
Honestly I doubt 45% might duration will result in 4-5 more stacks of might. So it probably comes down to how confident you are in staying above 90% hp.
Also – when buffed properly (25 might), Scholar has a higher dps ceiling.
There is an 18 page thread on gear swapping due to nerf here :
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Zerker-nerfed-allow-us-to-swap-asc-gear/
Anet will upset a lot of people who just paid a lot of gold for strength sigils if they nerf them now.
The problem isn’t that you cannot get boon duration up high anymore. The problem is the methods for doing it leave you totally kitten.
I wouldn’t recommend giver’s trinkets or doubloons. They have horrible itemisation. You’d be totally gimping yourself just to get more boon duration.
I’d stick to your traitline + food. That’s the best bang for your buck by far.
Forgive me, I don’t play much WvW.
Why knights gear and possibly zerker on your 0/0/30/30/10 build? Surely keeping yourself alive is the priority, not adding a minuscule amount of dps? Wouldn’t full pvt or sentinel simply be better for that?
What are your thoughts?
I’m talking from a meta 20/25/0/0/25 point of view.
Zerker dps is hugely buffed in all zones/dungeons lower than level 80
Added the above to the list of things to consider.
Up and down votes work really well on the gw2 reddit. As a result of self moderation the discussion is usually far better, and people who know what they are talking about don’t get infracted/banned for telling the truth.
There’s nothing stopping you using the scepter in melee range with your buddies.
It’s not going to be top dps, but if you can guarantee all smite hits.. the dps is really good with the right spec. Too bad it doesn’t fit into the 20/25/0/0/25 spec.
I will refrain from inflammatory comments but suffice to say berserker is still king by a long way , for numerous reasons.
