It’s pretty viable in unranked though. I’ve been using it for a while at high mmr. Here is my 2 cents. If you use melandru and soldier or sentinel, it’s very hard to kill someone (maybe harder at high mmr). I suggest using knight and rune of the pack, with this you will get relatively good AA on DS. I still can’t decide on the sigils though. I’m using purity and generosity.
I usually go to far and stall people there. The problem is when you 1v2 and your friend come to help you but they die instead.
Don’t understimate ritual of life, I personally love it since it has helped me many times. With your DS, it’s quite reliable to rez someone (except when an engi throws 100 grenades at you).
Death nova is also strong, I once brusted a mesmer down to 10% HP since he/she shattered my 4 minions.
I think Unyielding Blast is also a good substitute as an adept of soul reaping especially if you’re smart about managing your DS.
For the weapon I’m using axe/warhorn and staff, I feel it’s easier to generate life force from axe 2. Vulnerability is good for mm necro.

Well, it’s true in an optimal group that can coordinate cc and has a good dps. and I feel myself not doing kitten damage when concentrating to rip off all defiants.
But in a pug group, multiple freezes will happen more frequently since the fight lasts longer. and it’s easier to coordinate by letting the thief to rip all defiants.
Like ecori said, warrior will probably camp GS or ele camp fire after opening burst or guardian wanna hold their binding blade, so not many CC there.

So I tried it again. Withdraw is really easy to pull off.
Is dodge jump still a viable way ? I tried it several time and failed miserably. Should I dodge jump when she points the gun immediately. Heartseeker is also hard for me

Pistol/Pistol have a dps of around 8-9k in a fully buffed group compare to around 14-15k for a Dagger/Dagger thief in the same situation. Both of those are single target numbers.
Shortbow is even less dps, but it’s better against group of mobs.

Since you had no problem using turret engi I would recommend a minion master thief. Guild of thieves, ambush, signet of shadows and fill the rest with racial skills.

Either way, its the only fun pve content I currently enjoy, so don’t mind running it.I had all the fractal skins except for the mace. It took 14 months for me to finally get it, and I do 50/40 pretty much daily. I wish you luck.

Yeah, after I’ve got all skins that I want and my money keep piling up, unique skins like fractal skins can keep me going. That feeling when you finally get the fractal skin that you want is amazing
Apply cripple to boss, turn 90 degrees, walk sideways, lol at pugs, cry at lack of profit.
Yeah that’s what I did. But the pressure is too much when I don’t have jail free card and the boss keep moving back and forth, especially at the last 50% HP.
Get The Quip and annoy the hell it of your pugs so they’ll reconsider the idea of ranging bosses.

Hi, I wonder what the max dps build for thief with range weapon. I know melee-ing will give far better dps.
The problem is today I encountered a group that wanted me to range arch diviner (the guardian suggested me to do so LOL and he ranged the boss with scepter even with protection buff on the boss – at lv 50). Although I still meleed the boss while 4 other people ranged it, but this question has come into my mind since it put me in a dangerous situation (no aegis given and the boss wound up running around).
In this kind of situation, do you think it would be better to switch to range ? Since I feel that I wasted my time to close the gap with the boss and If I get 1 hit from the boss, I will be most likely dead. Perhaps p/p or shortbow thief will give better damage.

You need to time the skill relative to how far you are away from her, it’s all a matter of learning the timing. Here’s a rough list of skills you can use to avoid it on thief descending in how reliable and easy they are to use:

Hi, I tried to dodge mai trin tele shot with dodge jump and withdraw but none of them worked. Is the timing window really small like the bullet should be catch you mid-air while dodge-jumping or at the start of withdraw roll?

Yeah I think so. I hit him frequent enough since I usually run with good guardian and ele(aegis and ice bow). But I think It can’t outperform the other heals since it’s only 1 enemy.
I personally like hide in shadow for extra backstab and condi clear since my feline grace build gives enough dodges for him

So let’s say I’m facing an enemy using d/d. If I constantly attack with maybe 1 or 2 dodges after some time. Would SoM perform better than withdraw or hide in shadow?
Point in case, Which heal is good for facing archdiviner? I know withdraw will help with additional dodges and hide in shadow can cure condi from wells if you get caught in the wells.

Every one can make the same weapon, what do you expect? Foefire essense is cooler than the legendary ones in my opinion.
Condi removal seems a pretty common problem for thieves. The only reliable source of condi removal is heal skill in my opinion (if you know what condi you will get).
But in the specialization trait change, thieves will get “trickster”.
“20% cooldown reduction on trick, trick will remove 1 condition” and withdraw and dagger storm will be tricks. So I guess if you take withdraw with trickster trait, you will get 12s condi removal (+ also cure movement impairment condi). I think it will help a lot, at least in PvE context

Thx for the info guys. It’s fully RNG like playing lottery ha3. 1 week ago, I got 3 fractal skins (mace, longbow, and warhorn). Since, I don’t have anything to do in GW2 anymore, I plan to collect all fractal skins but this RNG frustates me.
So has it ever been in the game? I know that there was a time when you can go up past lvl 50, right?
So I read on gw2 wiki, any confirmation if that will be implemented on HoT?
I dig the fractal dagger so much but RNG is so bad.
Anyone know how much gold will I get from 1 stack of nightmare keys approx? Should I open on t3 labyrinth? if yes, what is the difference?

PvE in this case is fractal and dungeon. I don’t enjoy guardian, it seems boring to me that’s why I’m looking for another prof. Ty for the input guys
Hi, I’m intrigued to main mesmer for pve but reading that mesmer’s damage is low make me worried to one.
Can someone elaborate more? for example comparison with guardian since I main one?

If we’re talking pure efficiency here, and assuming minimal mistakes are made, 66002 is optimal because it has enough endurance regen though tool belt skills and Might stacking, Vuln stacking + damage are all parallel in your rotation.
The rotation is long but there isn’t a better rotation for PvE right now, might stacking into Vuln stacking, with Acid Bomb being the biggest DPS you can get from a single skill out of the ones worth running, hitting up to 26k on it’s own in my average groups (banners, medium high vuln stacking on a champ, nearly capped might)
Other builds don’t really compare, sadly. You can have initial burst with other utilities but then your damage is largely inconsistent and low and you’ll end up spamming grenades/bombs far more than anything else, which simply hurts my soul to see, given how active this class is capable of being.
The rotation looks very long. I wonder what rotation that you use in practice. I don’t think it’s possible to maintain such long rotation when you need to dodge a lot. Mistake is bound to happen
So I watched that vid, read this thread and I see few things missing.
1: Flame Burst is a dps loss with a guard in group, never use it unless your guard can’t use his F1.
2. Few bosses and encounters reflect your auto attack, thing that might seem bad to you. Easy fix is to detarget and hit the ground around your target. Examples are Belka and Aldus Stormbringer in hotw p1.
3. While I see most people saying rotation is Eruption -> Air -> Lightning Storm -> Fire -> Lava Font -> Ice Bow. It’s not always the case.
This is a good rotation for solos and most 5 man fights but you’ll notice that sometimes a big part your lightning storm is wasted before boss triggers.
Lightning Storm is around half of an Ice storm so it’s nothing to joke about.
Lets take Sure-Shot Seamus in CM p3 as example.
You want to freeze that guy as soon as possible. You can either do your usual rotation before he triggers then freeze but then half of your Lightning Storm is wasted or if you do it later then your freeze will be too late.
My point is, skipping earth in your rotation helps sometimes, so just Lightning Storm then Lava font and blast it with Arcane wave.
4. Obviously prestacking before few encounters helps. What I wanna point out about this is that it’s not worth it if you’ll start fight in Air, at least not in a 5 man where you want Internal Fire to proc.
Again I’ll use Sure-Shot Seamus as example. No matter how fast you are, you won’t get fire off cd for your Ice Storm on him so despite what most do, prestacking on that guy with a PS war is a waste.
But, encounters like Vallog are perfect for prestacking or Fyonna in TA, or cart in SE p3, there’s tons of example but you get my point.
I’m a little bit unclear about number 3. I see a lot of dungeon streamers, their ele usually use lightning storm while the boss’s color is not red yet. Is the damage wasted? If yes, why cast it early, for quick freeze and burst? Is it worth to use this on pug strategy?
So in that case, what attunement should I start or what rotation should I use? From my understanding, start with air, cast lightning storm while waiting boss, ice bow→ deep freeze and burst, switch to fire and use 121212?

Personally this is the build I would use at mai trin for pugging or for fighting without stealth tactic.
You have sword 3, retreat, virtue of courage, wall of reflect, renewed focus to block teles. Plenty of dodges and condi cleanses as well so this is all the sustain you need.
Personally I wouldn’t focus too much on healing but block what you can for them or just let them die and solo it yourself. The chances are they will die instantly regardless of your healing so you may as well just do as much damage as you can while using a safe buildIf you stand pretty close to being in-front of her you can block the teleport with sword three pretty easily, even if it isn’t targetting you
You should try to melee all the time, you can walk in and out of max melee range to trigger her auto chain then peddle a step back, this way you won’t get hit at all.
GS 5 is useful for pulling her into the fields as well or for a DoT
I’ve never tried to block the projectile with sword 3, only with WoR. Thx, I’ll try to max-melee her. The GS5 seems unreliable, you need to clear her defiance stack, don’t you? I wonder what the rotation of the DPS though. Do you camp GS and use sword for blocking only. Sword AA sounds unreliable in this fight since I usually need to dodge and break the chain.
Hi, I need some advice to face Mai Trin with pugs. For what it’s worth, I know the basic strategy for her.
What weapons/strategy to use with pugs for mai trim as a guardian? pugs keep running from mai trim when they are low on health. I keep getting trouble to protect them since mai trim keeps jumping around. Should I be the one who take the tele shot by being the farthest person? Should I max-melee or use range weapons? I usually use scepter/torch with gs but I rarely use gs to attack since she keeps teleporting.
Feline grace is more than enough. Just dodge everything.
