Question about Risen after Zhaitan's death

in Lore

hardy.7469

Who says Zhaitan is dead.

Given the mess the finale to the PS was, I do believe that ANet might recton Zhaitan being “dead”.

Also, given that we don’t know the full nature of the elder dragons in this world, who says they can even die? They might just go into some recession or slumber only to awake again at a later time.
They may in fact be a force of nature in Tyria and can’t be removed ever, like storms or floods.

Pale Tree Vision *Spoilers*

I suggest you go to the top level of the Grove and head west. That’s what’s being shown – not a winter forest, but the forest on the western edge of the Grove, which shines a bit. The map calls it Envoy’s Terrace.

Or at least, that’s what it looks like to me.

Interesting. I guess that could be where it is. A weird spot to show though since we zoom through it, but that’s not where the path leading out of the grove is.
Also the trees look dead to me, either winter or just dead.

Again, I think it’s probably just a visualization of her saying “I’m fading” i.e. Dying.
Though of course she won’t die because then it wouldn’t make any sense for the creation of new Sylvari by players.

[SPOILER] Did people notice this?

I noticed it today, even after watching the vision like 20 times. lol

What confuses me about this video is at the very start where you see a winter forest area.

Is this to imply an actual location (I’m not aware of any part of Maguma that has snow) or just a representation of the pale tree when she states “I’m fading”?
Also I JUST noticed that at the very beginning the trees are set up in a way where you can see a female Sylvari face. lol

Also, one can assume that the vision is traveling.
Starting at the Pale Tree, through forest, then winter forest, then up in the air and down to some crystally area.
My guess is that if it is traveling, it may be traveling East to the Crystal Desert.

Maybe Kralk landed there for a reason.

Which Dragon should be the focus after Mord?

Yeah. Probably Kralk, unless they decide to deal with Primodus.

Pale Tree Vision *Spoilers*

I don’t know much about the lore in this game aside from the wiki, but what I saw was.

An autumn forest, where you zoom past it to a winter forest.
You then shoot up in the sky where golden beams of magic/energy shoot up from the ground into the sky.
The Modrem dragon we just fought it flying through this scene.
As these beams shoot up, mountain formations, or large buildings (it’s hard to tell, might even be molten rock formations for all I can tell) rise up from the ground.
In the center beam, a small glowing round object forms and it grabs the attention of the dragon, only for the dragon to be alarmed by the last beam shooting up from behind it and flies away.
This round object then descends down and ends up surrounded by Kralkatorrik’s crystal brand between two pillars which have a glowing pattern on them (may just be the crystal brand)
The object begins to pulsate and the crystals start to crack as Mordremoths thorn vines begin to crash through them and go for the the object.
You then see the object being completely surrounded by Mordremoths vines.

The two scenes involving this glowing object are viewed through what seems like some sort of multi-angled cyrstal/diamons/glass, which shatters when Modremoths vines come in after shattering Kralks crystals.
This view has a yellow/red tint to it, but that may have just been the colours of the vision being reflected/refracted as you see a bit of rainbow colours as well.

That’s what I saw anyways. :P

I should also point out that the personal story summary states that the vision showed a “golden land” and a “mysterious artifact”.

Very lazily looking up “golden land” with Guild Wars in Google, I can only find references to Elona and the “Land of the Golden Sun”, but that might be a bit of a stretch.
Though if those things that raise out of the ground are buildings, maybe someone can get a good look at the architecture and see if it’s similar to anything already existing in the Guild Wars lore.

Makes me wonder why they don’t implement a feature where people “upleveled” based on the zone.
Let people who just get the game jump right into the action in the new areas instead of make them level if they so choose.

The Orbs - Zhaitan alive? [spoilers]

in Living World

hardy.7469

We don’t know the full natures of the dragons.
We don’t know if they can actually die or just go back to sleep.

Maybe we didn’t kill Zhaitan, maybe we only put him back to sleep.

I wouldn’t put it past ANet to go back and claim Zhaitan is still alive though, given how much of a mess that PS ending was. lol They probably want to retcon that.

pale tree SPOILER question

hardy.7469

The cutscene shows our character going PAST the pale tree.

That was the impression I got as well.

The sphere in the centre is probably Tyria. It almost looks like a distorted map. Then the green sphere, which I presume is Mordremoth, engulfs it.

Oh you’re right. It is the world if you look closely. Just with some glowing golden center.
Though it’s even more confusing, because if the orbs represent the dragons, or the magic they use, why aren’t they fighting over that juicy core? It seems like they are taking turns.
Probably a lame way to explain why all the dragons don’t all do stuff at once so us players can easily focus on one thing without the world blowing up. :P

Well the texture of the rock does look a bit….bone-ish.

Maybe the world is a creature itself, like Xenoblade! lol

The cutscene shows our character going PAST the pale tree.
We see the tree, then it zoom to the orbs.

The Pale Tree, to me, is not the source of magic/center. It is merely connected to it.

The question is, what exactly is the center of that design.
Do the smaller orbs represent magic, dragons, or something else?
Where do the mists play in that design?
As well as the 6 gods. They were able to control magic. Where do they fit?

Hopefully we’ll find out in the next update, though I doubt we’ll figure it all out. ANet wouldn’t be that nice. :P

Lets face it here

in Living World

Posted by: hardy.7469

hardy.7469

But seriously the pale tree is just up to no good with all the lack of information

Don’t confuse character motivation with writing quality.

The pale tree doesn’t talk about its nature, along with the Sylvari because ANet doesn’t want us to know that.
I think in reality, the pale tree would’ve told us everything. It might make some people push away from her more, but knowing the link between it and the elder dragon would drastically help the fight.
We won’t hear about it until ANet feels the need to “drip feed” more mystery and lore.

I mean if DE2.o was smart they all would’ve stuck around Scarlets room to find clues, but they were all stupid and “duh who cares she’s dead” because ANet didn’t want us sitting there finding everything right away.

Anyone else find the Kodan a little silly?

in Lore

Kodans are awesome!
Their backstory and links to the Norn are pretty awesome, but, yeah, in Guild Wars 2, they aren’t presented that well.
Maybe when we deal with Jormag they’ll be given the love they deserve.

It could’ve been the inquisition stabbing people trying to get information on the shards.
Maybe the felt the confusion during the explosion would let them do this with no worry of being caught.

I mean when you find the bodies, there’s inquisition all around them. I wouldn’t put it past them if the leader of the area or someone was killing people for information.

Definitely won’t be dealing with Dwarves in any form until we start dealing with Primordus, and my guess is that he’ll be last or second last.
I picture us dealing with Jormag and Kralkatorrik before Primordus.
Deep sea dragon is up in the air when we’ll deal with that one, since it’s the least known. I picture us dealing with that one if we ever go to Cantha or Elona.

The Sylvari as Mordremoth Minions?

in Living World

Posted by: hardy.7469

hardy.7469

ANet, purposefully, has not given enough information on the connection between the Sylvari and Mordremoth, let alone the nature of the pale tree.

Most of these theories can be true simply because we don’t know enough.
We don’t know what’s going on with the other pale tree(s).
We don’t know who or what made them.
We don’t know the connection between Modremoth and any of the creatures in the land including Sylvari.
We don’t know if what happened to Scarlet and the other Sylvari is Mordremoth or a third party.
We don’t know a lot of things. lol

All we have if vague hints and plot hole ridden “facts” because ANet hasn’t give us enough information.
In reality, we would’ve forced the pale tree to explain how she works to understand and better prepare against the dragons, and I’m sure she would’ve explained willingly.

This mystery story wouldn’t happen in real life, it’s just the writers stringing along players to keep them interested, which is clearly working.
Personally though, I don’t see the point in arguing what is right and wrong until we have 100% confirmation. Which we don’t.

I mean little pink aliens from another dimension name The Kraang could be behind it all. lol

Our next stop?

in Living World

We could go down.
The story talk a lot about what Scarlet was doing in the mines and what she found.

The only other area I can think of is west as it was the only location the seemed to go further in the game.
The path the Master of Peace takes after the boss fight.

I mean REALLY!?

No. They were all, let’s get out of here, this is pointless.

Wooden potatoes is good, but it’s an opinion most of the time.
If you want summaries of lore and information it’s best to delve into the GW2 wiki, or even the GW1 wiki.

The wiki for GW2 even has a timeline.

So, Lion's arch post-Scarlet. . .

Lions Arch will be rebuilt regardless. There’s too many NPC factions with an interest in keeping the city alive.
Will it look the same? If Anet is lazy yes. lol More than likely it’ll have roughly the same layout, but maybe a lot of buildings will be either damage or missing.

Maybe there will be a vote to expand Southsun, that would be cool, but even then I still think Lions Arch will be back in some form. Maybe not the hub it use to be though.

Sylvari's Corruption Theory *spoilers*

in Lore

Posted by: hardy.7469

hardy.7469

While it would seem logical to think of the Pale Tree as say, a champion of Modremoth that was cleansed like Glint (in this case it was being taken and having the shamans stone tablet placed on it).

However, the fact Anet put in another Sylvari from another tree throws a wrench in that idea because that person had no dream and wasn’t corrupted or evil in any way.
I mean if we do go to Maguma Jungle and do find him again but now he’s corrupted and evil, then it’s brings the theory back. That maybe the corrupted doesn’t start until Mordremoth woke up, but that wouldn’t explain Scarlet…Though there’s a lot of things around Scarlet that can’t be explained. lol

Structure of Season 2? *Spoilers*

in Living World

Posted by: hardy.7469

hardy.7469

I personally picture, not an entire xpac worth of zones being released, but one every two weeks, or one every month.

Slowly heading towards wherever the dragon is.

Of course, the dragon also woke up, so there’s nothing stopping the devs from just having him hope over to a zone that already exists to save development time.

The monitor on her drill states it “grabbed” his attention.
So it’s up in the air what exactly her actions actually did other than “wake” him.

I assume, if Maguma Jungle does become a zone, we’ll see Malyck again, and if he’s corrupted, it would probably explain a lot.
If he’s not..Well then it’s more confusing. lol Or implies Scarlet wasn’t corrupted by an ED.

The only thing we have to go on about the connection with the Sylvari and Mordremoth (if there is one) is that other Silvari not born of the pale tree.
He didn’t have dreams, which leads one to believe that there’s something special about the players one.
Be it the tablet, how it was planet, something magical in the location is was placed in etc.
The Nightmare, I would assume, it the influence of Modremoth trying to get through, or the connection all Sylvari have with the ED showing itself prior to waking up and being protected by the pale tree.
Or something. lol

All I know is that pale tree has some ‘splainin’ to do!

Yeah. The fact there was going to be a fractal with the living story in it about Abbadon makes me believe that something about him is involved.

I don’t know how he could be alive, but then again, he’s a god, he might not technically be dead.

She’s says Tyria will bow to a “new” master.
However, Elder dragons, to my knowledge, don’t seem to care to “rule”. They just are.
The consumer magic, corrupt and do what they do. They don’t ask for people to bow to them.

Kind of a weird thing to say if she was talking about a dragon.

It would’ve been nice to have it explained to us why the entire year of living story even existed.
Aside from “Scarlet was evil and/or corrupted”, the story for the past year basically went nowhere.

If everything that happened in the LS didn’t happen and they just went straight to an ED waking up? Is there something lost?
Would anything really have been missed?

I really wish people stop claiming the sylvari are dragon minions as if it were a fact.

There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to support that claim. It’s just raw speculation and all support the theory had has been debunked!

Unless there’s ANet employee officially stating otherwise, your yelling and the suggestion that Sylvari are dragon minions are both equally speculative.
Speculations can be neither right or wrong, or as you imply, more wrong.

If there is an official comment about it, link?
No seriously, a link would be nice because if there is an official comment I haven’t seen it.

Maybe Mormedoth isn’t the “new” master, maybe. It’s somethign else. Like Abbadon even though he’s suppose to be dead.

I wouldn’t view ED corruption as something like radios or cell phone reception lol.
I’m sure the corruption is down to the DNA, or magical.
That the corruption has always been in the Sylvari, just somehow the pale tree has been able to stop it.

Of course the EDs influince for Sylvari in the form of dreams and nightmares, perhap because the ED itself was still asleep.
Maybe Scarlets way to stop the nightmares was to wake the dragon up.

Though we don’t know 100% how the link between Sylvari, Pale Tree and Mormedoth works so…soon maybe? Lol

Or it was Abbadon corrupting Scarlet the whole and he’s not dead because magic.

So I would like to say too. Syryn. However, if, and a surely hope not, but if Mordremoth is behind Scarlet’s actions then we need to look at the warning the Pale Tree gave her in that light too.

That warning being “In seeking to comprehend the forces that shape us, you will unleash them.”

…please let it not be so.

Isn’t, in this games world, the mists the “force” that shapes everything?
The mists are the equivalent to in our world atoms right?

Theorycrafting on Scarlet

There is no such thing as a bad character.
Only bad writing, acting, implementation and directing.

Scarlet could be an amazing character, but almost all of us wouldn’t know that because they implement her in such a shoehorn fashion that we barely learn anything about her, or the story she’s suppose to be carrying, as well as when we do see her it’s just done so…poorly.
Replace her with an Elder dragon or Mursaat, it would still be bad because it’s not the characters that ruins stories, it’s the people making the stories.
