I do use Muddy terrain , I said that it would be nice if the pet landed some hits WITHOUT me burning crowd control skills non-stop

First, I should mention that it’s a wilderness survival skill that grants cripple and immobilize, neither of which are crowd control. Also, muddy terrain has a ton of uptime so you don’t need to constantly cast it. Are you sure you’ve tried that?

Regarding the other part of your post, do you feel improvements to pet AI would upset the pvp balance? Because most people would try to cripple or chill in your situation. Don’t like using axe or dagger offhand? What about greatsword swoop to pet swap to hilt bash? You’ll get some hits in there I bet.

All of those -do- work and are quite nice combos for guaranteeing pet hits, however I’m with Chak on this one.

Our pets need to hit more than they do, it wouldn’t be OP since we’re balanced around our pets hitting the target.

Now, of they upped both ours and our pets damage and sorta said “your pets only supposed to have ~ 30% uptime on a mob, but you deal 120% the damage other profs can do while pets up on it…” Then I would have NO issues with my pet hardly landing things, because when he lands something it’ll freaking hurt.

Yeah this gets into a deeper discussion, Durz, I mean, yeah, it’s a problem. I was just trying to get him solutions. I think the issue of pets landing hits is a complex one such that any simple analysis or simple AI fix wouldn’t be enough. The point I always try to make is that, if you really want to play ranger, you can make it work. It will get better, I know it.

They -have- been working on fixing the pet AI for a while (not surprised, seems like it’d be complicated), I’m pretty sure once that’s fixed it’ll be glorious. I mean even in BWE2 when they fixed some of the most minor pet bugs ever did rangers just freaking shoot up in usefulness xD.

Well I know of some mobs that can hit moving players without a problem. Guess the main thing is that melee pets are rooted to the ground when they are using their attack. (Something like seige golems in wvw. Can you hit players with your auto attack? No. Pets have a similar problem just that the time they stay rooted is much shorter.)

However a good thing about the ranger is that u enjoy every Other classes a lot more after playing one. Due to quickness nerf i’m leveling a thief atm and wvw wise i’m constantly surprised about how it’s just way better in every way compared to my ranger.

You forgot “nobody else can DPS from the safety of 1500 range”

Engineers can do that too…more dmg+aoe…yes grenades use ground targeting and may miss(depends on player skill) but longbow misses too at max range(does not depend on the player’s skill).

As someone from a TA private group in gw2, I can tell you that I wouldn’t want a Tanky Ranger but I’m fine if you’re gonna switch to that when the last boss is dying. Yea I get it that you are no noob but you dont wanna tank stuff in PvE, you wanna kill them.
In PvE, you want to kill things fast, be it high dps, giving might to your allies, healing everyone, granting stability, aegis, cc on boss etc etc to allow everyone to dps 100% of the time. Yea sure I’ve heard of rangers soloing dungeons they are great players but…come’on…you wanna spend like I’m not even sure how long doing that?

Let them bash the ranger…that way when they’re killed by one it makes their humiliation all the better. You won’t see people in T5 bashing them considering we’ve all been killed by a ranger at some point or another (some more than others), and you see them quite a lot down here.

Never said Ranger was bad at killing players. Good in small scale skirmishes in T5 but not so good in bigger fights. Come to think about it, everyone has been killed by a certain class at some point.

Right now the ranger class has many problems with our largest problem being anet devs and coders.

Come back, mess around for a while see how you like it. You can always put in bug tickets if need be, tie enough of their time up and changes will happen.

-Beastmastery Trait line has now been fixed. Each point in the tree gives +1 point to all attributes to correctly reflect the tooltip
-Natural Healing (beast mastery grand master trait) will no long effect the ranger bring it in line with the tool tip text.

Hi all, this is a just for fun parody of the contents in the recent interview where we remaster the changes to professions-Ranger Style.
Well, since the only other profession I have is a Warrior, I’ll start off with the Warrior section.

Banners
-Banner improvement, increased attributes that the banners apply; instead of 90 you will have 95 attribute points.

-However, Boon duration and Crit Damage Bonuses have been reduced to 8% to account for balancing issues.

-Banner skill 5, Plant Standard, will now have its casting time and cooldown removed.

Rampage
-Warriors now have access to the Burst Skill, “Stampede” while in Rampage form which applys 10/15/20s of swiftness to you and nearby allies base on adreneline level. We believe that this will increase the mobility of warriors as well as providing a good team-wide buff.

-Throw boulder has been reworked-it now summons a boulder at your location which can also be picked upped and used by your allies, providing a good utility skill to the team. Cooldown of the skill has also been reduced to 11s.

-Cooldown of Stomp Reduced to 12s

Condition Removal
-The 25 point minor trait in the Arms Tree, “Attack of Opportunity” has been reworked. It now removes one random condition when attacking a bleeding target(10s cooldown)

-The 15 point minor trait in the Discipline Tree, “Fast Hands”, has been replaced by “Refreshing Burst” which removes one random condition upon using your burst skill

All in all, we believe that these changes will certainly be able to encourage more players to use some of the more underused skills like “Rampage”. Also, we hope that it will be able to address the issue of warriors being “shut-down” by condition damage in PvP.

Yeah, you may say this belongs to the Guild section, and if a mod thinks it should be moved, please do so at your own discretion. However, the reason i post it here is because i am starting up a guild, named Rangers Guild fs (fs is for Far Shiverpeaks, my server).

The reason i created the guild, was to get a little bit more outta my WvW skirmishes… as i love to play defensive, and most of the guilds iv’e been in/with dont bother using the +5 supply bonus at all. So i created my own guild. Somewhere down the road, i realized that it would be kinda lulzy to make a Rangers only guild, if only to prove other professions dead wrong in their assessment of our uselessness, and this is where we are today.

The rules are darn simple, as explained by this simply Q&A.

Q: Can i use other chars, with different professions aswell, aslong as my main is a ranger?

A: rangers only, nothing else. You got a mesmer/thief/warrior/guardian/engineer/necro or ele aswell? too bad for you, only rangers are allowed to represent the guild.
If i catch you representing the guild on something else then a Ranger, you will get ONE warning sent by mail. Were you have 48 hours to “un-represent” the non-ranger class. If you dont reply, comply or tell me to shove it, you will thrown into a pit together with my angry little boar, bacon, who will tear you to bits.

Q: What does Rangers Guild do?
A: Whatever you want to do. Enjoy the darn game. Do dungeons without people telling you to GTFO because you play a ranger. Play WvW with tons of buffs. Explore tyria along with someone else then your pet.

Q: Why only rangers?
A: To be frank, because even in mixed guilds, your class is still discriminated against, because it can speed-run a dungeon just 2 minutes slower then the zerker warrior with full ascended….
Also, imagine a guild event in WvW…. where you have to make it through 820938409283094 volleys of arrows, just have your leg bitten by fido… oh the lulz.

Q: Don’t you realize that rangers sucks? Do you think this will make any difference?
A: Rangers are good, and probably one of the most versatile classes there is, short of the warrior. We may not be DPS monsters, or iron-clad tankers, but we can do it almost as good, yet we still managed to bring our enemies down.

Q: How many members do you currently have?
A: Only myself, as i am starting it up. I have been spending the last 1 1/2 week preparing for the startup, by getting as much upgrades and stuff as possible. I must say i am pretty impressed by myself, given that i have gotten the Guild Bank up, Art of War to level 3, including almost all WvW buffs there is, emblem, guild armorer, workshop… probably “wasted” 80 gold by now, not that i care. Gold can be replenished at any time.

Q: Do you have teamspeak/mumble/ventrilo/skype set up?
A: not at this moment, i am looking into a teamspeak solution, either through borrowing/renting space on an existing guild server, or by hosting my own server. Time will show.

Q: Any special requirements?
A: beside being a ranger, not many.. Aslong as you can communicate and understand simple english, aren’t a kneejerk and has a sense of humor, you are more than welcome.

Q: Do i have to move to your server to join?
A: Not through game mechanics, no you don’t. You can join, even from a different server, however guild events, and later on missions, will be unavailable to you.

I think that the biggest problem is that pets do not scale with end game content. Take for example high Lvl fracs which are designed for players with high end exotic/ascended gear.
However, our core ranger mechanic, the pet which does 30% or more of our damage and is basically a part of you does not scale with whatever gear you have. This basically means that we benefit much less from the gear and this IMO is a major balance issue. (Pets not have the AR stat from your ascended gear is an example of this)

Of course there is a wrong group when doing speed runs or PuG’ing. You may be fine and having fun with inefficient setups, but the run isn’t solely about you.

It’s good that you have teammates willing to accommodate the additional clear time you are putting on them by bringing your ranger, but for other groups, their time is precious. They’d play the game for about 3 hours a session, and they’d like to make the most of it before they log off.

Time may not be precious to you, but it is valuable to other people. Dismiss it all you want, but some people would rather obtain their stuff sooner than later.

I hope you’re not serious. There is a “wrong” group in a speed run, sure, but not a PUG or a guild/friend group where everyone has no concern for speed. Anything goes in a PUG. If it were your way, everyone in the entire game would be a Warrior or a Mesmer. Do you see nothing wrong with that?!

On top of that, your ridiculously condescending tone as if anything other than a LOLDEEPS ZERK WAR is not worthy to exist is hilarious. “Willing to accommodate”…give me a kittening break. At what point did I say it was about me? Every guildie brings every character they have for the tokens. Please explain how I’m somehow selfish or think the world revolves around me. You tried really hard to make people realize how godawful rangers are and roll another class or stop playing it. Well, I think that one day, someone is going to send you a thank you mail because they didn’t roll the ranger class after reading your posts. I sincerely thank you for helping out the new players.

First off, from what you have written, I assume that you must be a really good player if you managed to ultilize the abilities of the ranger to such an extent. Zenith merely mentioned the ideal gear/class setup that he believes in, no need to get all worked up. Some people just think differently and as long as they specify clearly the class/gear setup that they are looking for, I don’t think that they are bothering anyone. I, for one, would like to run a dungeon in the shortest time possible. As for the “bringing every character they have for tokens” part, I personally prefer to run the dungeon with my warrior and switch over to my ranger at the end for tokens if I need them as I feel that it would be an utter waste of everyone’s time if it were to be otherwise. Cheers!

Gear: Full zerker, Ascended Gear, 30/30/x/x/x. Armor=Ruby Orb’s Zerker.

Shortbow = Hits 800-1.2k. With 25 bloodlust stacks, can go up to 1.4k maybe.
Greatsword = Hits 2k-3.6k(Top DPS on the Leap finisher and 1 other)
1H Sword= 1.5-2.3k DPS (Needs a revamp as the dodges are annoying)
AXE OFFHAND = THIS IS YOUR KING DPS. 12X Whirling Defense, my end burst was 9.9k, meaning hits leading up to it was 6k>>7k>>etc.. quite alot of DPS AND reflects.

So, your 1.5-2.5k Ele Fire Auto attack better than this how? Also, why do you guys use bow? Just because its a “Ranger”? I use bow like i use all my ranged weapons, sparingly. Only on epic boss fights where zerker is impossible etc, but for general PvE, and dungeons like CoF, CoE, SE, etc… this is wayyyyy more dps.

It is an attrition dueling build yes, but healing spring with high HP like this does provide plenty of benefit to a group. Also, this build would be great for creating distractions/buying time and possibly scouting. I prefer more of a damage focused roaming build myself, at least to take camps, but there is more to WvW than facerolling with a zerg. The beauty of GW2 is that you can build a character for many different purposes.

Healing spring doesn`t heal others, it provides regen only. Scouting for ranger? Interesting, but ranger can`t run away if he would find out enemy zerg, so it`s kind of suicide. Thief does scouting more much better. How much dmg you say you can provide in this build? I sawin video about 300-400 per hit max, it`s really crap. Just for example warriors or thief or ele can do up to 7-9k per 1 hit. How much time it takes to cup camps solo with this damage? 15-20 min.? Also, there is no zerg “facerolling”, if you want to do good teamplay.

I have 4 lvl 80 chars now with full exotics set (except for ranger). Mesmer, Engineer, Ele and Ranger. Mesmer was the first character I made and payed for about 4 months, til I re-rolled into ranger, then Engi, then ranger again, then Ele and now playing ranger again too.

Mesmer and Engineer are those I barely touch while I play Ele and Ranger equally much. So for those who usually say “ranger is a broken class, go play mesmer or warrior”. Well, guess what, been there, done that. I find ranger being much more fun and I am completely sick to death playing mesmer.

You can argue that that other classes can do what you do but much better, well maybe, but in the end it’s about having fun. I guess the thing with rangers is that I just love playing with bows…

Now let’s look at the argument of any other class doing everything better than ranger. There are 8 classes and most can go support, bunker, dps, control or some mix of those mentioned.. So if you only want to play pure DPS, should everyone play the class that statistically do highest numbers of damage? Let’s say it’s a warrior (although I don’t know for a fact, let it just be an example). Does that mean everyone who plays DPS on other classes are idiots because they are “less effective” compared to the warrior? Or lets take 2 warriors, one dps and one bunker and then a zerker Ranger. You cannot then say that the 2nd warrior is gonna be better than the zerker ranger DPS wise, because it’s obviously not true. Will you then say that playing bunker warrior is stupid because you should do more DPS than this ranger guy here and if you want to be bunker go play a guardian instead? So where will that lead us in the end..? You gonna kick both zerker Ranger and the bunker Warrior and take 2 more DPS warriors instead?

That just shows a very narrow minded game play and in reality that’s not how it works. I won’t deny there’s some elitist groups that only want warriors or mesmer for best dps. But you cannot simply compare a class to a class without taking into account the variation of builds.

An one more thing too. Even if you want to look at it purely statistically, reality is not so black and white. For example, I can’t even count how many times I’ve been the last man standing in a dungeon party saving us from whip at bosses (what is that close ranged dps warrior good for when he dies from AoE while I stand 1500 units away with my bow, safely and alive?). Nor can I count how many times I’ve beaten thieves, warriors, mesmers, etc, in pvp. There is always a skill level present and you cannot deny it. I hear many people argue that “well, this player is bad at his class, it doesn’t count”. But most people are more or less an average player (as well as me). Really bad and really good players are more of an exception than a rule. So you can show all the numbers and statistics and theory crafting all you want. But obviously rangers can work just as well as any other class despite their annoying bugs and broken pets.

Shouts, signets, and spirits are bad. Traps are good when traited. All other skills (mostly LR, QZ and Muddy Terrain) are okay-ish. That’s the opinion of someone who has clocked 500 hours on his ranger.

And there you prove that playing a class X hours doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve learned how to use your skills.

They might be nice videos but to be honest in MOST (not all) of these videos the ranger is fighting unskilled or/and upscaled opponents, which is not that impressing but entertaining..

Precisely, most of the players could’ve just ran away but no! For whatever reason, they chose to stay and fight. Don’t get me wrong, this guy has good skills as a player.
