“I hate sellers” = “I hate all sellers” unless I’m missing something here. That’s like admitting you hate black people and then saying since you didn’t say all, you didn’t mean all.

But sure, I guess hating players who are more skilled than you is the “thing” on these forums, the amount of abuse players get just for suggesting good builds is unbelievable.

Thanks for this. It is appalling how the devs put one instance of knowing how your class works in a dungeons system of 19 fractals and people just lose their cat.

I’ve said before, if you can’t list like 12 seconds or so of immunity to dredge attacks, you have no idea how to play your own class.

The dredge fractal takes too long because too many people are horrifically incompetent.

I agree, when I did this at 49 in guild, the fact that some of us downed from invulnerable dredge coming out of the clown car is because we are horrifically incompetent. it doesn’t matter how good your DPS is, that event is just an enormous time gate designed to prolong the fractal.

Regarding rT, Dub said me he’d expect me to solo Arah p2. I trained for two weeks, but got nowhere, killing Belka only four-five times and miserably failing on Lupicus repeatedly in phase 2 when I passed Belka. So I simply gave up about it.

CDI- Fractal Evolution

in CDI

hendo.1940

I honestly don’t see ‘re-rolling’ for first fractal as all that hard to kill.

Arrange things so each account holds in memory what tier one fractal you last generated by starting a run. When you finish a Tier 1 fractal you launched it becomes blank/null, ready to receive a randomly generated new scenario the next time you start a run. But, as long as there is an old scenario waiting there, that is the only Fractal you will ever see when you are the person who opens the initial gate from Mistlock Observatory. New/first-time characters are assigned a random scenario from a list of tier one fractals that does not include the Swamp as a possible result (other troublesomely fast tier 1 scenarios introduced later can also be excluded). This prevents recruiting newbies solely for the purpose of trying to game their initial roll.

Done. Re-rolling is dead. Long live facing the challenges presented.

That sounds like quite possibly the worst idea I have ever seen.

If you want to roll something else, find people who want to roll something else, or pre-roll, make your lfg and say "fractal (level), rolled [name]). Instead, your idea would punish people who just want to do swamp.

Ive always found the most basic requirements, like “experienced pls”. Lead to decent pugs. Sometimes you get odd builds and leechers. But often they arent bad enough to warrant a kick. It is a pug after all.

If I join a pug i usually join the no requirement groups because its more interesting carrying a group through a dungeon than pugging for efficiency (I can do that with my guild or my friends so pugging is something I do for entertainment).

In my experience, “experienced please” or “experienced only” normally results in axe 5 warriors and staff guards.

I’m not really sure how to get actual experienced players outside of doing a trait check, but I’m so beyond caring about the quality of pugs anymore I’ll just join any old group and get over it. Priority goes to groups with names I recognise, if they’re decent it normally makes the run a lot more tolerable.

And what you seem to be ignoring is that the AI really is pretty stupid. I can only assume you haven’t played Guild Wars 1, because if you compare the AI of that game to the AI in this game, you’d see that GW1 AI is far superior. Increasing the intelligence of the AI would requires zerker teams to put a little more thought into combat, or perhaps consider bringing a support character, or a control character instead of slotting 5 DPS.

If I recall correctly, in GW1 you could ball up giant groups of enemies and then spike them down. Which is … exactly what happens in GW2. And I agree, more thought should be required when it comes to dungeons – they were advertised as instanced content for organised groups, but any old randoms can do it. Sure, our DnT guild runs will wipe the floor with your pug, but we’re only completing it faster (though in all fairness, getting a daily ~16 minute Arah p2 run beats 1.5hr pug “zerk only speed clear” runs) – our tactics aren’t a strict requirement for completion.

The problem with the “you should have to bring a support/control character” argument is that all support and control is built in to our weapon and utility skills. Here is the best example of control which we did recently:

Support comes in the form of might and fury stacking, banners, passive buffs (empower allies, spotter, frost spirit, etc.), protection, aegis, reflection, condition cleanse and so forth. The way things are now is good. You can apply all of these boons without having to completely demolish your own DPS by running a “support” build. GW2 is an active game which means you won’t have a passive healbot, boonbot, debuffbot or a tank who sits there and spams a taunt rotation while the healer just spams heals. You don’t have a control player who just spams all of their skills to lock down a boss or mobs. If you want CC you actually need to co-ordinate it, and when you do co-ordinate it, it’s extremely powerful. You can stop the Shoggroth from burrowing underground, you can stop the boon golem in COE from spinning or firing projectiles (this is crucial in reflect-light group compositions) and constant chill and cripple enables you to backpedal on Mossman while the rest of your team wails on him behind him with all of their melee DPS.

Is adding more strategy and more tactical thinking to the game really such a bad thing? Even doing something as making mobs dodge would be a nice improvement.

It’s not at all. The problem is your perception of what strategy and tactical thinking is. Boonbots, “support” players and “control” layers are not even close to strategy and tactics. If you add those in, you no longer need to co-ordinate to stop the Shoggroth or the golem’s heavy attacks, your CC player just spams whatever skill they have. You don’t have to alert your party that your long CD CC is on cooldown so that the next guy has to do it, the CC guy just does everything. It ends up in having parties where you have everyone doing their own thing rather than working together. This still happens in GW2, but it cripples your efficiency so heavily you’re better off just working together.

And what of the other small changes I mentioned? Do you have nothing to say on those? Adding elemental weakness and resistance, physical weakness and resistance (i.e. blunt damage/piercing damage/slashing damage) to further increase strategical play?

This just means annoying mechanics like at the wurm where if you weren’t a condi, you might as well just gtfo from killing husks because you’re just a dead weight there. Or since golems are made of a mixture of metal and magitech, it means blunt weapons like axes and maces become deadlier but then a guardian’s current main DPS weapons (sword and GS) become blanks … because they’re slashing weapons not blunt trauma weapons. I don’t know, it could work. Just no “direct damage sucks here” or “condi damage sucks here” (ANet please fix PvE condition damage).

PvE is just so mind numbingly easy at the moment. Are you saying you’re okay with that? Okay with just rushing around and HULK SMASHING everything?

People keep saying this, but every day I see “at Lupicus” lfgs on Arah to which I join, solo him down and then just drop party. PvE is mind numbingly easy if you do the mind numbingly easy content. If more people did Arah or high level fractals they would realise there actually is challenging content in this game, they just choose to ignore it because they’d rather do AC or COF.

Guild Wars 2 - Improving PvE

What you and countless other people seem to ignore, is that the move towards offensive gear is a completely natural progression of the metagame. The more comfortable you become with encounter mechanics, the less passive defenses you need. Dragon Age is a good example of this, you might have just used a stock tank/healer/2 DPS group, but when people realised you could use fireball or storm of the century to just flat out obliterate everything, people went from that trinity setup to an offensive dual or even triple (if the player was a mage) DPS spellcaster setup because they knew how the fights worked, and that as long as you could keep up CC you could just destroy everything with offensive spells.

As far as I know, the GW2 dungeon meta started off as “bring PVT”, and the Giganticus Lupicus guide on the GW2 wiki still says to bring defensive gear. However with all of the knowledge we have now, we can give up defensive stats and move towards full offense. This is an entirely natural progression, and it’s something which promotes experience and skillful play. Know the fight well enough? Go full DPS. Don’t know it? Maybe stick some knights gear on. Making defensive stats basically a requirement is basically gear gating content and basically turns it in to the way agony resist currently is – don’t have the AR? Well I guess you can’t do it. Don’t have enough PVT? Well I guess you can’t do this dungeon.

The option to go full offensive is great in this game, because if you’re incompetent in full berserker, you’ll most likely either faceplant. If you don’t and you’re bad with berserker, most likely you’re getting carried. The fact that you can complete all content with offensive setups is the very thing that makes speed clearing content in this game a matter of skill and not just passing gear checks.

The AI in a game is always going to seem stupid after over a year of the game being out because most tactics to deal with it are going to be common knowledge, it’s almost as if you want us to just be at the early days where people were clueless and running around kiting mobs, ranging and using weak builds and gear because that would somehow be more interesting.

“little point to running defensive gear”?

Do you understand that full cleric parties can quite literally smash random keys and things will eventually die with zero intelligent input from them? Do you understand that you can clear Arah path 2 in full defensive setups without using a single dodge? If you don’t believe me, I can dig up the video links.

There is plenty of value in defensive gear, it’s for people who don’t feel comfortable enough in being able to dodge major sources of damage, or for those who wish to roleplay tankier characters. For people who become comfortable with fights they can slot out defensive gear and go more offensive since they’re familiar with the encounters and know how to mitigate the major sources of damage.

If anything, it’s PVT and Cleric gear that is too strong in this game, it allows you to soak up tons of hits and quite literally afk your game, go back 10 minutes later to a dead boss and loot chest.

regardless, we all agree axe/mace > axe/x but don’t take dredge 49 or lupicus solo into it, i don’t think the OP will jump in there right away or anything. axe/x is just fine, could even go axe/shield and at the end of the day nobody would really notice the lack of dual-wielding trait.

“your examples don’t count because I said so”.

Right, so I guess your example of HOTW p1 doesn’t count, because I said so.

But what about x/x/x/x/30 with Burst Mastery, not Heightened Focus? Getting 1/3 of your adrenaline refunded and having Eviscerate deal more damage seems like a good thing.

If you don’t take heightened focus your crit chance will be terrible, which means your eviscerates are more likely to miss anyway. Burst mastery is a pretty lousy 7% damage increase on one skill too, while 15% crit chance will give you far more damage for fights.

Wouldn’t Eviscerate be good if you could get your adrenaline back to max almost instantly? With Burst Mastery and Axe#5 you can spike with F1 and then get back to full in like 3 secs. Still a dps loss?

Still a DPS loss. Axe 5 is one of those “skill check” abilities (if you’ve played magic: the gathering you’ll be familiar with this) where you’re presented a skill that look deceptively good but is actually pretty bad. If you want to get adrenaline up you’re best off using hundred blades. It’s six less hits but it’s like ~25% better than axe 5.

30/25/0/0/15 GS/Axe+Mace with eviscerate at the end of fights for that final push of damage are your best bet, If you don’t like GS, 30/25/0/10/5 axe+mace/axe+warhorn (or axe+mace/axe+sword) work too.

Fixing the Zerker Mentality

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: hendo.1940

hendo.1940

A saner option might be to restore the original design intent to make the GW2 replacement for tanking, the use of CC, to be a more reliable option, and to rebalance group content so it’s actually needed. While redesigning mob behaviors and the way boss mobs deal with CC would be a hefty undertaking, this would not affect PvP combat, and is therefore a more viable option.

I agree with this. Bosses with 30-60 stacks of Indignant, immunity to half your control skills (pulls, blinds, warding lines etc), “structural” bosses that can’t be critted (and the loss of all the CC that depends on crits), gigantic HP pools: these things contribute to the DPS fixation. If boss mechanics were redesigned to make CC viable & needed you would see less of the DPS mentality out of necessity because right now it’s 100% DPS.

Empirical data seem to favor a pure axe build (mace offhand) that relies on autoattacking 90% of the time for max-dps but the general consensus is that it’s overly boring to play.

Incorrect. Hundred blades is a ~10% DPS increase over axe autoattack, and used alongside whirlwind, rush and maybe bladetrail, using a GS/Axe+Mace rotation pushes your DPS up higher. If you don’t like whirlwinding against enemies that aren’t against a wall, just rush, whirlwind and weapon swap mid cast so you don’t go flying.

OH axe is a DPS loss, sure, axe 5 does do high damage, but over the course of 3 seconds. Although the axe chain’s DPS is backloaded, it also completes in 3 seconds and the combined hits will easily beat out the damage axe 5 can ever score. Axe 4 is mainly used for stacking fury, which is pointless since you have FGJ and SoR.

Axe 5 really doesn’t do high damage at all. Axe auto cleaving three targets is again, around ~10% more DPS than whirling axe hitting five targets (when I tested, I would have dealt 50,853 damage with the auto and 46,625 damage with axe 5). Off-hand axe does actually work for easy boss solos – stacking fury on axe 4 enables you to drop FGJ and just go 4-sig + banner.

i did say “Axe/Axe” if you like the -look- of it. you don’t lose much from not having the offhand mace and offhand maces look ugly. true story. That said i can fit an axe4 in a decent dps rotation but nobody ever said you should use axe5, axe5 sucks. I can only think of a good use for axe 5 on the second boss in HotW to eat through it’s 30+ aegis stack.
Sure, knockdown and block and yaddayadda but honestly when do you ever really -need- any of that?

Try doing dredge at 49 without knockdowns. Try soloing bosses (Lupicus being the default example) without blocks. Vulnerability on mace 4 lets you burn bosses down faster too.

Would Axe/Axe be good for a 30/x/x/x/30 build with Burst Mastery (Discipline XI) since Axe#5 ramps up adrenaline really quickly? You could almost sustain 2 fully charged Eviscerates on cooldown right? For bosses (single targets) that sounds really good.

Axe 5 is quite literally never worth using. And you shouldn’t ever be eviscerating except near the end of the fight because you want to maintain the 15%+ damage modifier from Berserker’s Power as long as possible. In x/x/x/x/30 as well, you get 15% crit chance at full adrenaline too, so you’ll be destroying your own crit chance.

The AP is a weird one. I understand being wary of a person with less than 1k, but I think the 5k requirements are a bit steep. The idea behind it is that people want to make sure they get players who know what they’re doing. AP is what they use to gauge that, despite it being a very bad gauge.

The class and build requirement though, that’s understandable to me.

Most class requirements are “lf zerk wars” despite the people making the party having absolutely no idea why warriors are worth taking. Or “lf guard” for fractals, and then they just camp mace/shield, never use wall and do nothing for the entire run.

If you wanted an actual filter for bad pugs you’d ask them to ping their trait spread (e.g. 30/10/10/10/10 or something like that) – that says a lot more about their skill than anything else.

If you run 20/20/0/0/30 for open world you can simply switch traits for champions an you will do fine.
Good luck with your phantasm build in (zerg) events, when you tag exactly nothing. And the fact, that you can aoe with shatter and you are not as reliant on the cooldowns of your phantasms makes it easier to blow through anything that is below elite. But who would play a mesmer in a zerg anyway…
But hey, this is about the most used class, which is not mesmer, it is warrior.

Because phantasms builds can’t use shatter skills apparently.

I would seriously take a few moments to consider whether what I say is true before bashing on warriors or any other class.. there are certain cases in dungeons where its more sensible to carry stun-breaks/vigor/condi removal than to carry a useless dps signet like Fury that will get you downed in an instant since it offers no protection from anything. For instance the AC P1 endboss, with all the mobs and condis (confusion, bleed, cripple etc.) a warrior with meta skills (FGJ, banner, fury) would die in an instant if he got knocked down

Take meta traits, make sure not to stand in front (or if you are in front, dodge), spam DPS rotation. The p1 boss will die before the adds even reach you, you have plenty of time. And this is without fgs, just pure conventional DPS.

Also for Malrona in TA, I swap out my mace to a shield, and carry Endure Pain (invuln) so that I am not downed by her AoE when she uses it. Would it make more sense dps wise to get hit by her poison and crit her for 100k+ damage and then use invuln/block so you don’t interrupt your rotation, or carry a useless signet like Fury and get downed and maybe die after a single burst of HB? You clearly are misinformed.

Take the poison, enjoy the massive damage modifier and dodge the AOE. If you don’t feel you’ll be up for dodging it, take axe/sword since it will block all attacks for its duration and it has a 4 skill which deals a bit of DoT.

If you want to argue how misinformed I am, feel free to tune in to any DnT dungeon streams and bring up any of these issues and I’m sure we can answer.

Btw, this must be new to you, but outside of dungeons, most of the time shatter still beats phantasm builds.
But yeah, PvE is only dungeoneering. ^^

I’m pretty sure casting a phantasm, swapping weapon, casting a phantasm and mob dying is more efficient than smashing a bunch of useless skills and then using the f1 shatter. I’d like to see you solo open world champions with a shatter build and watch as you castrate your own DPS by destroying your phantasms over and over again.

Are you kidding?? Please tell me you are.. Warriors can achieve perma-vigor (perma-dodge rather), you are wrong about that. Then again most classes can if traited correctly and using right gear. We have HS to make up for our lack of regen/prot, and no stun-breaks are you kidding me?? All classes have 4-6 stun-breaks and warrior is no exception to that rule. We also have decent condition removal, Shake it Off! or SoS for multiple condis both of which are viable in a PvE build. Most of your info is dead wrong.

Warriors will enter basically every dungeon fight with zero stunbreakers, zero condition removal, zero sources of vigour and zero sources of regeneration or protection, because anythinga warrior has that can provide that is just subpar, and therefore not worth taking.

Every rush advertised has either one mesmer or guardian (sometimes one ele) and is looking for 4 warriors.
Sounds balanced to me.

Those are the very groups you should avoid because no competent player ever asks for “heavies only” or “wars only”. I avoid those lfgs like the plague.

Cleansing a single condition every 25 seconds is not even close to good condition removal. Cleansing all conditions off yourself every 36 seconds (traited) isn’t either. All warrior condition removal is complete trash and not even worth taking besides like I said, fringe situations. The two traits are not used in good PvE warrior builds either. So for all intents and purposes, warriors might as well have zero condition removal.

If ANet would at least make shatter mesmer viable in PvE again, you had one class more with a true rotations list.

Shatter was never viable in PvE.

Quite clearly it’s you who hasn’t played warrior since the bottom two aren’t even used by any decent warrior PvE build, and shake it off and signet of stamina are extremely fringe. The stock warrior loadout is FGJ, banner and signet of fury. if the lone warrior, maybe double banner and fury signet. If banners are covered, the next warrior takes FGJ and signet of might and fury.

I agree, that time when I pugged Arah p2 and solo’d the abomination, Lupicus and most of Brie was clearly thanks to the newbie guardian.

I don’t use Deep Strikes. Reckless Dodge isn’t worth the DPS different. Cast time yes, but it also heals more. I believe Defiant is more DPS on Lupi.

What are you using instead then? The stock Lupicus solo traits in arms are Deep Strike and Forceful Greatsword. Reckless dodge actually hits quite hard and against Lupicus the most damage youll probably be taking are either 8k blasts or 4k life suck ticks if you miss a dodge which healing sig can outheal quickly. If you believe it’s more DPS though, feel free to challenge the 4:09 record.

Not to mention, sometimes you don’t need a heal at all as you can easily avoid all of Lupi’s damage. And if you do get hit, it’s a strong hit so you want to get that back up, which you can do by tanking the next hit with defiant while DPSing.

If you don’t need the heal you can just use the 40+ precision, and if you do get hit by a projectile you’re getting your scholar rune buff again in about ~20 seconds.

Wrong. Healing signet does not give enough sustain to protect you from hard hitting mobs.
The terrible weakness of healing signet is that when you need a burst healing most, it is not there for you.

I do Arah both in organised groups and pug it daily. I can assure you, healing signet will give you the sustain to out heal hard hitting mobs.

I actually use Defiant for Lupi solos. Its a full heal on him (especially if used on P2 AOE or P3 Drink/Flight), not to mention that you can continue DPSing instead of dodging.

Then you’re missing out on +40 precision from deep strikes, and if you dodge on his circle then you’ll hit him with two reckless dodges anyway. Defiant stance requires timing to use but heal sig is just passively keeping your HP up making it easier to maintain scholar runes in case of unlucky stray projectiles hitting you or a badly timed dodge on his life suck (this one catches me out a lot since I have a bit of delay).

So in other words, healing signet is best when warriors are not taking hits at all. Okay.

Well I guess my post mentioning Lupicus just doesn’t exist then. Use healing signet in Arah, it’s godly.

Warrior by a mile. They have been the most played class the last time we got numbers and they only got stronger. No reason to play anything else beside a warrior, unless you get bored.

Oh look, another typical player who thinks Warrior is the best at anything.

Warriors are only useful until both Banner of Discipline and Strength are taken. After that, either pick up more reflections, or a higher damage profession.

But @OP, Warrior is the most used class for the wrong belief they are the best damage (they are not, Thief, Mesmer, Ele and even Guardian are all higher in PvE).

The titel of thread: “PVE most used class”

Which is warrior. Which is the best PVE profession. Which is why you have so many of them. Which is why I posted it.

Let’s look what a base warrior offers:

Highest HP
Highest toughness
Highest armor
Highest mobility
Highest damage
Highest condition removal
Highest weapon swap time
Highest healing without even healing

All at the same time.

It is hard to fail in PvE as a warrior.

Fixed that for you.

Well let’s see:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hp

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Healing_Signet

Warriors use Healing signet in PvE?

That healing skill is worthless in PvE because mobs hit very hard, which is healing signet weakness. In PvP, many players are afraid of hitting hard and sacrifice damage for survivability which makes Healing signet strong.

Except … healing signet is incredible for PvE. In fights where you just mitigate damage through dodge and blocks … well it’s just there, and for fights with hard hitting mobs, it gives you plenty of sustain. Look at pretty much any Lupicus solo, all warriors use healing signet. The great thing about it in that fight is if you get hit, it will heal you up like 6k hp before his next major attack, and considering lupine blasts hit for like 8k each, it’s a massive increase in survivability rather than healing surge which is just a small burst heal.

Cut the crap, there are people who bust their balls learning how to solo every fight legit and you’re just painting all sellers with the same brush.

Best Mesmer Pve Build ?

Then you should probably rethink your utility slot choices. Heal mantra I use almost unconditionally besides reflect intense situations that require two phantasmal wardens one after the other (e.g. alphard), you can easily use condi cleanse mantra over null field, stability has its uses, and the daze mantra can be used to shave defiant or CC mobs with deadly skills like risen illusionists with their area denial, or against Bjarl you can chain daze mantra, magic bullet and illusionary riposte.

Meta builds generally work better in meta situations too – if you’re pugging a lot then 10/20 is more reasonable, but in a strong guild group, some fights can be so bursty that there isn’t really much point getting phantasms out because stuff dies too quickly. To give a familiar example, it’s pretty easy to melt slave driver in about ~6 seconds and if you’re casting a phantasm you’re doing zero DPS for 18% of the entire fight.

Stacking & Ignoring Enemies in Dungeons?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

All I really see here is alot of painting things as hopeless and inevitable and not alot of Yes or No.

This is an exercise to illustrate various aspects of stacking to determine which parts of it you actually enjoy to see if it’s possible to satisfy both sides. That’s what I meant by ‘getting to the heart of our disagreement’ before. You’re a fan of it. That’s why I’m asking you. There is no other overarching plan. This is pretty cut and dry.

It’s fine if you’re super hopeless about things. I’m not saying you can’t feel depressed. But please, vent in addition to answering, not instead of.

It is possible to satisfy both sides right now. “lfm path 3 no stacking” if you don’t want to stack, “lfm zerk speed run” if you want to stack.

I enjoy stacking (at least in organised groups) because it allows a group to fully synergise with each other as they stay within range of each other’s combo fields and finishers, projectile reflection, condition cleansing etc. and these can be co-ordinated for maximum benefit.

You seem to dislike stacking and want to impose your view on everyone in the game by finding ways to insert anti-stacking mechanics.

Spoiler alert – fractal bosses aren’t suddenly more interesting because they’re less stackable.

You reference the wurm event as an example of increasing toughness, and berserker builds against husks dealt like 30 damage per hit. You would be forcing people who use berserker gear to use different gear sets because you disagree with the meta, i.e. once again, someone trying to impose your views on everyone.

Gear with maximum offence will always be optimal in video games no matter what you play, so I don’t understand why people are trying to buck this trend. It’s a skill/survivability issue, you keep trading away survivability as long as you have the skill to keep yourself up and then hopefully you use max offensive stats after a while. A bit like in Dragon Age where you could just have a group of squishy mages spam fireballs and storm of the century, stack magic and willpower and just obliterate everything. Now don’t get me wrong, it was imbalanced as hell, but GW2 isn’t even like that, bad zerkers are probably half as efficient as good zerkers so GW2 still has that skill requirement to use offensive gear.

LFG message = spam!?

Hi,

it’s really annoying, that LFG messages are treated as spam, if you post them too often!

And for the rest of us, it’s annoying to see you spam "lfg!’ ‘lfg!’ “lfg!” over and over. I’m glad its under the spam suppression.

Except it’s only on the actual LFG tool, not on the map chat so if you’re getting annoyed then it’s entirely self imposed and you should try to resist whatever your urge is to go on to whatever instance the OP is advertising for.
