Warriors Meta

At least warriors are varied in terms of builds and play styles – unlike classes like Necros and other classes who are just clones of each other. Every Necro, Guardian, Mesmer, etc is the same in every match. This goes with many classes other than warriors.

With warriors, you never know how they’re going to play until you actually see them in action. They could be condition damage-heavy. They can be bursty. They can be stunlockers. Or tanky sustained damagers. They can be team support-heavy with shouts and banners.

Instead of complaining about warriors, shouldn’t this be the golden standard that all other classes should be brought up to, in terms of variability?

Actually, necros have power, condition and minion specs, as well as bunker specs sometimes. All of which work.

This is a build I made today and started using in tournaments more successfully than any P/P build I’ve tried before.

Leeching venoms adds over 2k damage onto your unload skill as well as a 2k heal (from spider venom, less from the other two).

Basically you buff your teammates giving them longlasting might stacks and venom procs while dealing large amounts of damage from range with unload for single targets and clusterbomb for team fights. Try to stay out of the middle of the fight except to share your venoms.

This list is not about 1v1 capability. Mesmers just lack the ability to stay on a point and also can get blown up in team fights in an instant. Especially in solo queue where they can’t rely on reses or a guardian to clear their conditions

Trap Revamp

So, thieves have 4 traps and only one of them is really much good in tournaments (Shadow Trap).

I’d propose a change that looks like this:

Traps have two stages: the first is where you place it on the ground.

After it’s placed on the ground, if an enemy is standing in the trap, you have a second option to activate the trap and it activates on the enemy/enemies inside of the trap.

This would add an element of active play to traps, making them both harder, yet more effective to use. Plus, laying down a tripwire and cutting a zerg in half would be pretty funny.

Make your own thread about how something else annoys you (which im sure you already did, and you got told you were stupid because there’s another FOTM build that can crush that build too.) Doesn’t make blind spamming any more fun just because a certain build is OP. Its still just as boring to fight.

D/p thief doesn’t spam blinds. You are spamming blinds on yourself by standing in the field. Learn the difference.

hyperbole doesn’t help. Maybe the stance was on cd? Maybe he doesn’t play hammer? And if anythign the signet does not heal for 1k/sec.

Signet+ Adrenal health = 800 HP on a warrior not speced for healing. Throw in regen and you have 1K per second.

Good thing I’m a shout support and don’t tend to conform to the same build everyone else plays and have an actual mind of my own. No one has fun when its Battle of the OP builds, I wouldn’t care if they nerfed FOTM warriors too, I’m sure there’s lots of bad stuff out there, I’m just expressing my one frustration with blinds.

Ok, well then why are you here complaining about blinds when you refuse to run a perfect counter to them AKA berserker stance?

The pvp community has waited for months, watching new content come consistently for pve and wvw. We have posted our concerns/ideas/criticism on forums, getting responses like “This is something we are working on” from the devs. I dont doubt you are working, but very little work is being completed……….

With this patch………….. You have got to be infant catting me. This is such a steamy, moist, sloppy bucket of kitty. A few nice additions for sure, a little bit of balance, but for us to have been waiting for this long with hopes that things would get significantly better…. Not cutting it. So many issues not addressed..

Skyhammer is still being farmed…. I don’t even need to go into how that is unacceptable, there are plenty of forums dedicated to that. I don’t even care that much about rank, but that is the single thing pvp people have. That’s it. “We’re working on it.” – It has been mentioned many times, pull SH til you fix the system, and even though you don’t want to ban people, you really should ban the people taking the most advantage.

The tournament system is still a wreck. If there was a bigger community I don’t think it would be as much of an issue, but there is still a concern with (in my experience) over half the matches in solo que(and team if not in full group) are decided by the teams the computer generates. Sometimes in my advantage, other times not. Either way it is not satisfying gameplay and something needs to be done.

Obviously you need new game types. That would solve so many issues, and the excitement of a new game would hide other problems

As far as balance is concerned, you have a decent idea with shaving, but you need to shave more often. If you let your beard grow 8 inches long giving it a little shave isnt going to clean that face. At least half this ammount of balance should be in all of those biweekly pve patches until things are relatively balanced.

How the flying kitty did you not change warrior healing signet? Imo it is the stupidest skill in pvp right now. Other classes have healing signets that give healing per attack or spell or cure conditions passively. That makes sense. The warrior healing signet promotes a hands off play style that drives me crazy. If you are going to make something so OP, make it something that is hard to use, not something passive. I can’t get the point across just how stupid the warrior signet is. And after months of waiting……. you didnt fix it.

Not to mention berserkers stance still being an amazing op bug making you immune to some conditions entirely….

I love the mechanics of this game, I will continue to play the game(though considerably less) but the amount of work that gets completed and implemented in pvp is disheartening. There are giant problems that are starting to pile up, and when the finally our aid arrives, they arrive to apply antibiotic ointment and gauze up the gunshot wound in our arm.

This is a question for the devs.

I feel like there are still tons of useless utility skills and weapon sets in the game which need to be buffed in small increments regularly.

Engineer’s aren’t as weak to stun warriors as necros are, due to protection on stun and -20% damage while stunned. Prot on stun lasts for 3 seconds base, 5 second icd. -20% damage has no icd.

Necros, on the other hand, just have to eat the damage, though they do have a higher hp pool.

It’s definitely true, honestly Engi might be better for solo queue now than necromancer but I’m pretty sure it has a higher learning curve and more room for error still.

Seriously guardian rated over necromancer??? do you know how long it takes to kill them with my necro? 15~ seconds. and that is without losing any hp at all if they are bunker.

Then you are fighting awful guardians.

Fact is: Guardian is a staple in team fighting in this game. In EVERY part: PvP, WvW and PvE. That’s due to shouts and condition removal and AoE stability. Bunker guardians have all sorts of tools at their disposal to stay alive. A full burst necro will have trouble killing a guardian in a realistic length of time, especially on a capped point in a tournament where the guardian is bunkering.

After playing Solo queue for a while in between the 80th percentile and top 1K, here’s my list of the top solo queue classes and why:

1. Warrior: Warriors in almost any current meta incarnation are tanky and able to hold a point. Stun warriors are an instant counter to necros and engineers. Warriors are able to bring good survival tools while retaining large amounts of sustain and stunlock burst. They can also bring valuable team support like warbanner and resurrections while invulnerable to conditions and damage. Warriors also have no real hard counter unlock some other classes.

2. Guardian: Although no one really think of Guardian as being overpowered, they take up a place on every single good team in the game currently. In solo queue, Guardian is always great to have for a number of different maps: holding mid on Khylo, carrying orb on Spirit Watch, holding hammer on Skyhammer, and team support in the mid fight on TotSS. Guardians bring AoE stability and condition cleanses while also having the best ability to resurrect allies.

3. Ranger: Specifically, Spirit Ranger. I considered putting necro in this spot, but now necros have been weakened by the prevalence of Stunlock warriors who can literally 100-0 them. Rangers have a large amount of vigor, protection, and evades which can help them deal with this and also bring more team support.

4. Necromancer: Although it now has hard counters, necromancer still brings a ton of burst to every encounter and isn’t very difficult to use. Even though necromancer is still extremely strong in both 1v1 and mid fights, it is a priority target and is one of the only classes that you can almost always land hits on due to its lack of evade spam and invulnerability. The main problem with necromancer in Solo queue right now is simply the fact that it is common to see 5-6 warriors in every game.

5. Engineer: Engineer is the class I know least about, but they seem to have very good mobility and condition application as well as burst when specced for it. Engineers are usually weak to stun warriors as well but do have access to vigor.

6. Thief: The main problem with thief in solo queue is that it simply cannot effectively hold points for any length of time. Thief has mediocre burst compared to some other classes and is not renowned for team support. It is a good class for back capping quickly, but other than that it can struggle taking down warriors and other classes in 1v1 fights. Shortbow is decent in team fights, but for solo queue, it is usually better to have a necromancer or engineer raining down condition death on the enemy from 1200 range instead of being extremely squishy at 900.

7. Mesmer: Mesmer has some crazy burst and can be tricky to find but they usually falter in team fights and also are generally running duelist specs which don’t bring much support. Portal is good for backcapping and mobility on maps like Khylo for repairing treb, but it isn’t nearly as good as it is in organized team play. Mesmers suffer from a lack of decent condition removal, and once locked down are an extremely easy kill.

8. Elementalist: Although I don’t believe elementalists are as weak as people say they are, their main problem now is that they don’t do anything as well as another class can do it. They can tank, they can DPS, they can support. But for a tank, I’d rather have a guardian, for DPS I’d rather have engineer or necromancer, and for support I’d rather have a spirit ranger. Elementalists are a jack of all trades with selfish utility skills on very long cooldowns and bring burst DPS with a general lack of sustain.

This is a good post. In addition to understanding map mechanics, probably the hardest part of conquest to learn is where to be at what time. Many times people who are low ranked in sPvP aren’t bad at their class…they simply show up at the wrong place at the wrong time. For example, people thinking it’s a good idea to just stand and defend the home node or people who assault a bunkered far point while the enemy is respawning.

Use hammer/longbow 0/10/30/0/30 with healing signet and if you are still going down 90-0 you should uninstall.

The build in the video is bad, no warriors are using axe anymore.

Double stun warriors (Mac and Hammer) are basically an instant win against necro or engineers if they get a stun in on you. In fact, necromancer has even less counter because all a warrior has to do is pop berserkers stance and you don’t even have vigor to keep up dodging.

Warrior is easy as kitten to play right now and anyone who disagrees is a kittening liar. I do better on it than on other classes that I’ve spent over 500 hours playing.

EU vs NA metas

I have an account on both EU and NA and recently I’ve been noticing big differences between the solo queue team compositions.

On NA… in my matches its common for me to see 4 or more warriors. In fact there are so many warriors that I’ve given up playing the build I’ve played since I started Pvping (power well necro). These guys can 100-0 me just by hitting berserker’s stance and getting 1 stun on me.

On EU… People play a wider variety of classes and I still see elementalists. I also see more engineers and less spirit rangers than NA.

It was kind of surprising when I began to notice these differences… Anyone else feel like this is true?

I’d prefer to see pvp rewards be tied to account wide reusable skins (similar system as the Anet point unlock skins) for different tier levels… Like, at level 40 you unlock a new weapon skin and armor set. This along with the removal of glory for specific actions instead of winning would really help the PvP scene.

What Am I Missing About Shortbow?

Thief shortbow is quite possibly the most useful weapon kit in the game.

1 does relatively high multi-target damage from range – it’s great to start a fight with or to add support DPS to a fight from a protected or hard to reach location. If you have two enemies on a point, you can be dealing 3-5k damage per attack from range. That’s really effective.

2 Is extremely hard hitting. Like, you can hit 6ks on other burst classes with this if you are running assassin’s signet and berserkers. It’s great for dealing with mesmers, spirit rangers, and minion necros as well. Not to mention being a spammable blast finisher.

3 A cheap evade that can get you to a safe distance as well as a cripple. Nothing not to like.

4 Large poison field which can be comboed with Cluster bomb for Area weakness. It can also be fired from stealth without reveal.

5 Adds great mobility especially for PvP maps like Battle of Khylo, and is also very nice for open world/WvW travelling.

Shortbow is probably my favorite weapon in the game.

I’ve been trying to use it more as I level and have found its uses lately. It’s a great tool.

The only problem I’m still having is #5. It’s got such a short range and requires a ground-target which makes it slow to use. So I’m guessing its point isn’t retreat so much as brazen attack. Popping into the fray with aoe blindness and then going to work. Yes?

No, you would never use SB #5 into the middle of a fight. It would drop your initiative too low. It’s used as an escape or to jump between levels. For example, on Battle of Khylo you can use it to shadowstep up to the clocktower point.

Lately I hear a lot of whining from various sides that ArenaNet only cares about WvWers, or only cares about balancing for PvP… or only gives new content to PvE.

I also hear this argument frequently: “ArenaNet adds the content that they think the majority of players would enjoy.”

This isn’t true.

The majority of Arenanet’s content production is centered around a very small group of players who have the largest amount of gem shop purchasing power and motivation to do so. Essentially, adult addicts of the game.

These players are generally older, and are PvE focused. My current guild is filled with them. Take the Black Lion Chest Tickets for example, the day they were released, numerous people in my guild were gambling $50+ to get the new Aetherized weapons. Many of them spend so much money on gems and the rest of their time on grinding PvE that they complain that legendary weapons are too easy to get. Now, I’m not going to pass judgment on these people. It’s their money, and if they want to support Anet like that, more power to them.

However, now that the initial game sales are done with, this is the player base Arenanet is catering to: the people who have no problem shelling out $30 to get all their characters new hairstyles.

This small minority with all the purchasing power becomes essentially the guiding force behind all the decisions Arenanet makes after the initial launch.

They are the reason PvP hasn’t had an update in 3 months, the reason Ascended weapons were added, and the reason why the only new armor we see being added to the game is gem shop.

Stability. And no, hearing how much you have to sacrifice to gain stability isn’t going to fly, since more warriors than not have a healing slot, 2 utility slots, and 30 trait points invested into things that do nothing but give them a chance to survive.

Actually, warriors have the luxury to take defensive utilities while still having massive burst tied to an ADEPT trait, Unsuspecting Foe. As IF warriors have trouble surviving, lmao.

The point is for comparison, at no point have I asked for necro to be buffed. Thief builds like this bring too much to the table, and the devs agree if you’d like to check the tracker

@div Jerry E plays conditions for tpvp [I have played against his team], so even if I took leaderboard representation as a point you are looking at 1% of the top 100 compared to, oh, how many thieves?

Are you kidding me, power necro is ONE type of necro. There are even more condition necros in the top 100. And no, Jery E plays plenty of power necro. I’ve seen him run power-wells in multiple games.

You lose a lot of credibility by complaining about a build that you know nothing about and doesn’t even see play in competitive team gameplay.

The burst heal is terrible. Healing signet can only rely on the passive regen. That is the weakness of the healing signet.

It shouldn’t take more than few brain cells to brainstorm that high dps destroy the healing signet warriors.

That’s why the carry immunity spells, massive condi clean and multiple stunlocks. Each stun = 2-3k worth of healing and they bring 4+ so that you can’t dodge all of them. Assuming that you can consistently maintain enough damage to overcome the passive is ridiculous, they purposefully chose this spec because the healing more than matches most pure DPS specs.

Condi clean, immunity spells have cooldowns. Mace/shield Stunlocks have short range.

When immunity happens, you don’t use high burst damage and you don’t facetank the warrior, instead you kite the warrior.

You dodge important skills like the GS’s 4 skill. If you dodge that, the warrior will have a hard time trying to catch up to you. You do not waste dodge, you do not chain dodge, You do not faceroll, instead you watch the warrior’s attack.

After immunity is down, you spam every CC and burst down with every burst damage and auto-attack you got. You make sure you get defensive when Mace/shield is up, and get offensive when GS is up.

You need to play as a warrior in order to learn how to defeat warriors.

I played warrior for a few hours yesterday and it is literally the easiest, most face-to-desk boring thing to play. ever. The 0/10/30/0/30 hammer/longbow build has everything: almost complete immunity to conditions due to cleansing ire and berserker’s stance, giant burst against stunned opponents, high defense and large HP pool, 600-800 passive healing every second, access to stability, and complete immunity to both conditions and regular damage when needed. All while retaining the ability to deal huge numbers with low cooldown skills. Oh, and access to very nice conditions like blind, weakness and immobilize.

Needless to say, I was more effective than on my thief main which I’ve spent 600 hours trying to learn well.

The skill floor needed to do well on a warrior currently as opposed to a different class right now is appallingly low. In fact, it’s basically non-existent.

They used my idea to make Laceration Strike. Maybe if you make a good idea your ideas will be implemented as well?
