New dungeon is necromancer friendly

Haven’t run the new dungeon on my necro yet, but from what I saw, the mobs aren’t as tanky as the are in other dungeons, which means a condi build shouldn’t be a huge loss in DPS theoretically

I still think people are underestimating the effectiveness of the necro condi builds. I ran a 36 fractal in 30 mins (granted it was ascalon, swamp and svanir), with my full condi build and wasn’t in a standard meta group makeup. Afterwards everyone was asking me for my build, saying I was doing insane DPS – kinda made me smile, I love it when my favourite class gets some love.

I think I’m going to try the dungeon tonight on my necro, wanna see how it goes

I have to say, this surprised the hell out of me, and my opinion of this game took a bit of a hit.

One of the features I loved about GW1 was that I could go to an outpost and respec…for FREE.

Not only have Anet removed this from the game, and instead implemented a slight silver-sink, but now they start selling a gem store item which does virtually the same thing for more then 100 times the price of doing it in town?

What a complete rip-off. ±3 gold just for the ability to retrait anywhere outside of combat is definately NOT worth it, and I’d be seriously surprised if these things got sold in any substantial volume…

I guess in a couple months we’ll see an item on the gem store that allows us to save/load builds? Or perhaps choose a second class? Or anything that GW1 did better than GW2.

TA F/U path is being removed

in Twilight Assault

Leif, I mean no disrespect, but I find those reasons to be kitten. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the path besides the final encounter. The fix itself has been pointed out time and time again throughout the year by the community at large.

What I find amusing is that the encounter was fine until a patch around halfway through the year in which he was buffed, and since then no one has touched him. You could have just rolled back the changes!

I don’t think removing content which has been part of the game since release is the right way to go, no matter what reasons you might have for it.

This also sets a precedent for things to come. A lot of us get the feeling that many of the unpopular paths are going to be completely removed from the game instead of just improving them to make them more appealing.

I’d run CoF 3 if the rewards were decent, same with HoTW 2 and 3. While the paths may be short, their final encounters are bosses which are extremely tank, and do insane amounts of damage. You can’t expect players to enjoy content like that. Either the boss is tank and does mediocre damage, or he does insane damage but is not so tanky, you can’t have both…

Why ?!

in Twilight Assault

Posted by: jakalofnaar.1702

jakalofnaar.1702

The main reason they remove F/U is because only a very small portion of the community runs that path. (Same goes for CoF p3 and AC p2 etc..) When you’re trying to search for a TA group, all they want to do is U and F/F because these are short and quick (good for farming). I think ArenaNet wants us to run all three paths frequently and not only certain paths because because they’re good farmable.

I don’t quite agree with this. The main reason the path is not run that often was because of the last boss. Without organized groups he was virtually impossible. If you look at the trends in dungeon running, we tend to choose the paths which:

a) Provide the best reward for amount of time put in, or
b) The quickest paths to run

This means unrewarding or lengthly and ultimately unrewarding paths will be skipped. TA FUP was the same length as the other TA paths, and was just as rewarding, but that end boss messed it all up.

As the OP points out, they didn’t need to remove the entire path, that just screams laziness. The only issue with the path was the end boss spawning far too many ads, which wouldn’t be too much of an issue if they weren’t all so tank, and did a ton of damage. That and the fact that he doesn’t reset properly, he just keeps spawning ads.

TL;DR – Fix issues, but don’t remove content entirely.

This has popped up so many times now. I main a condi necro and I don’t PvP (haven’t the patience), yet I hardly get a chance to play as my main because conditions are considered worthless when you’re speed clearing dungeons.

The sad part is this should never have found it’s way into the game, and I don’t really buy the whole “technical issues limit what we can do with conditions”, that just seems like a bull excuse. How can hundreds of other MMO’s, including GW1, manage to do it and yet GW2 can’t?

Aurora Glade has the FE issue as well. As dagrdagaz mentioned above, the fight is skipped entirely.

We also have a bugged Melandru event chain. Izzmak doesn’t leave Gravebeorn and the event status is stuck on “The Pact are preparing to attack the Temple of Melandru.”. I think the same thing happened a month or two ago, along with the cannon protect event at Lyssa xD

Any possibility of getting another form of DS

jakalofnaar.1702

I don’t know if I’m doing a good job of getting my point across here xD

I’ll agree that we do have access to stacking/applying conditions. Torment has also made it a lot better, but I don’t think Torment is all that huge TBH, unless we manage to fear the mobs for long enough for it to take effect.

What I would like to see from DS is more condition manipulation. So not necessarily creating new conditions (although that still would be nice to have), but more removing conditions from party members, condition transferral, etc. I gave the underwater version as an example because it sort of has the condition manipulation I was looking for, but like Bhawb says, this might be pretty OP on land, especially when we take into account our current kitten nal of condition manipulation utilities (Corruption skills, staff 4, Dagger 4, etc.) :<

I just like playing with conditions and just generally being a mobile disease :P

Just wanna say I appreciate the input. It’s always interesting to hear other people’s views on the necro class. It’s been my favourite class since launch, even though I don’t get to play her much in dungeons :<

jakalofnaar.1702

What do you mean by lag? Do you mean rubber banding or pushing skills and they blink but never cast etc etc, or are you watching a slide show and the screen “freezes” often?

It’s rubberbanding, ie. skill lag. It’s been getting progressively worse the last couple days. I never had much lag before, but since a couple days ago the game has become virtually unplayable to me.

I’m not sure if this is just an issue in EU or not though, but I can confirm that it is most definitely something server side. We’ve had no dev response yet, or at least none that I have seen.

Dear Anet, if it’s such a mission to provide a little feedback, like for instance confirming there is an issue and you’re working on it, then at least ninja fix it in the background.

Networking issues should be priority in an MMO. Without stable networking how can we be expected to play the content you provide?

No worries I appreciate the input

I just find the current DS lacking in the condition management department. Sure I can apply a couple conditions, and if traited I can do all sorts of things when entering it, but there’s just nothing really keeping me in it. At least in the water DS I can transfer my party’s conditions to myself them spam 1 to transfer them to enemies. Dunno, that just seems to fit in with my idea of a conditionmancer more :?

I guess it’s not a terrible class ability and like you both say, it does work in condi-builds, but I’d like more condition management from it I guess.

jakalofnaar.1702

As the title states, can we possibly get another form of DS. One which is more condition focussed than the current one?

Bare in mind, I’m mostly referring to PvE play in this post.

Currently our DS is fine if you’re running a power mancer, or a build with a reasonable amount of power in it, but on full condition builds it’s not very useful. It used to be a nice burst soaker, but that got nerfed when the PvP folks complained that it was OP…fair enough.

It doesn’t even need to be completely new skills. My thought was something like have an F1 and and F2, allowing you to choose the type of DS you wanted: a power based DS much like we already have, and a more condi based DS much like the underwater DS.

Don’t any of you other Condimancers want the underwater DS on land? It’s so much better for condi builds :<

Where’d you see these skins?! I must see!!

And back on topic, I love the necro for Epidemic. I love playing around with conditions, but they seriously need some love in PvE :<

Please please please review the condition cap.

Pretty much the whole Necro class is based around condition damage and we are massively kitten in PVE by the limit.

Right now Necros have to fight and beg like crazy to participate in dungeons due to the cap!

Some comments have suggested balance would be affected if the condition cap was raised, but right now Necros can be prevented from doing any damage at all by other classes applying incidental conditions with minuscule amounts of damage that knock our high-damage conditions off the target entirely!

Is it balanced that when Necros are solo they can do full damage, whereas in groups they can’t?

“Right now Necros have to fight and beg like crazy to participate in dungeons due to the cap!”

its not due to the cap, its because you conditionnecros dont know how to play your class in pve. get berserker gear and scholar runes. when you see your damage numbers for the first time you will understand.

even with higher condition cap a berserker necro would laugh about your condition damage.

just an example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ckhmyUfC2Q&feature=youtu.be&t=2m29s

+ if u think necro is built around conditions you are simply wrong.

Completely disagree…I have played a conditionmancer as my main since the pre-release, and your statement that “conditionnecros dont know how to play your class in pve” is incredibly insulting. The only reason a power necro does better in PvE is because Anet makes all the encounters DPS races, that doesn’t mean conditionmancers are completely useless. I play high level fractals on my necro with no problem and it doesn’t lengthen them by any significant amount.

“if u think necro is built around conditions you are simply wrong” …. just wow. There are plenty condi-mancers who would totally disagree with this statement.

What all you zerker-lovers seem to forget is that those of us throwing around conditions and are also providing you with some extra DPS and survivability. Most of what we do isn’t even visible and you just assume we do nothing.

Not to mention we can transfer all the conditions YOU put on a mob to surrounding mobs.

I agree that zerkers are better suited for PvE, I don’t think telling all the CM’s out there that they don’t know how to play their class is fair. Many of them have probably clocked tons of hours playing necro and trying out all the various types of builds but still enjoy the condition play style.

Could move warrior’s “Building Momentum” to tier one, or to one item in the Discipline.
It is very useful, but Warrior need spend 15 point to get it.
And “Reckless Dodge” is so useless.
And I really hope change the burst skill of Great-sword Please………………..

The Warrior’s GS burst skill is a waste of a class ability TBH. What warrior in their right mind uses it when running a GS o_O7

I’m not sure what the implications are, but I had the idea of switching the burst skill with 100B on the GS. 100B is technically already the burst skill on GS anyways, and I feel it’s not a terrible idea, but then I main a necro so……

Lol, well I’ll throw my 2 cents in here, but I highly doubt the devs will get through the walls of text above xD

I main a conditionmancer in PvE, and I’d love to be able to take her into dungeons….The 25 stacking limit isn’t an issue for me, more than my damage output being incredibly inferior to other classes. If I’ve invested so much into an offensive stat, I would at least like to see a mob drop in around the same amount of time as a zerker necro.

I don’t want to switch to a power necro just to be effective, I enjoy the conditionmancer playstyle too much, and have invested insane amounts of time and gold into gearing my necro. We give up so much going full condition, it’d be nice if we could also be thought of once in a while instead of just making power build more and more superior.

Secondly, because I “can’t” run my necro in dungeons, I’ve resorted to running a guardian, which is fine, I love guardian to bits as well. If I could have one thing though, it’d be a faster Hammer attack speed. Why can’t it be along the same lines as the Warrior hammer, and just reduce the duration of the protection from the third hit accordingly?

I run Guardian a lot in dungeons, and have recently starting using a more DPS shout build with Sword/Focus, but my main gripe with it is…I want to use shield! Because shields just look so much better on a guardian than focus, but therein lies the problem…

Shield skills just aren’t useful. I NEVER equip a shield, focus skills are just so much more useful!

How many of the other guardians out there would prefer to see the focus skills on the shield, or at least see some sort of buff to the shield?

Fractals took WAY too long

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: jakalofnaar.1702

jakalofnaar.1702

We’re currently looking at a few things regarding individual fractal difficulty and length. A couple of options are reducing the length of unnecessarily long fractals (dredge) and modifying the possible sequence of randomly selected fractals so you don’t get the longest and most difficult ones all on the same run.

Thanks for the response Anthony! I like the idea of shortening some of the fractals. I always thought fractals where supposed to be a collection of short “mini-dungeons” which after 3 or 4 added up to an average of about 45mins to an hour. Unfortunately some of the fractals take that amount of time alone (if you’re not running an organized group that is).

People like picking on dredge, but I don’t think it’s too bad, but definately could do with a bit of a shortening. Perhaps removing the middle section (bombs, cannons) and leaving the rest as-is. Another reason I think people pick on the dredge fractal is because, well…no one likes the dredge, they’re such a drag mob to fight :/

A lot of the longer fractals are IMO only lengthly due to one or more factors: Bosses are insanely tank, certain mechanics are repeated far to much (seals in cliffside, do we really need to do 4 sets of seals? It’s the same mechanic all the way till then end, and just becomes tedious).

All in all I enjoy fractals. I think it’s an awesome idea, and the current fractals aren’t terrible or anything, they just need some polishing. Rewards SHOULD be adjusted though, because doing a level 40 fractal and getting only 3 blues from the Maw chest is ultimately an hour or more wasted, and leaves me feeling extremely grumpy >:D

jakalofnaar.1702

xD I’ve been reading this “discussion” and I’m sorta on the fence about 30/30/0/0/10 and 0/30/0/30/0. While I play the former most of the time, I have actually tried both and I have to say, both are just as effective. I agree 100% with Nemesis, don’t forget your party comp. But here’s the thing, if I’m in an organized party, and I know for a fact they know what they’re doing, taking 30/30/x is what I prefer, just because the condis I epidemic will last longer without the need for duration runes (I prefer damage runes), and I know my teamies are good enough to keep themselves up. I mainly run fractals on my necro, and always in an organized group, so there isn’t much need for me to be rezzing most of the time, the guard does it better, and should we find ourselves in a bit of a pickle I can just use my Undeath signet

Where I see Nemesis’ build being way more effective is in pugs, where you aren’t sure what sort of group comp you’re going to have, and the need to be in the thick of things, rezzing people is probably going to make you a more effective team player.

Neither of your build are “wrong”, they both have their place in the game. But remember that while damage is important, there ARE classes/builds which will definately provide better DPS than us, and the more we allow them to pile on that DPS the better. If I can let my zerkers stay alive 25% longer through mass weakness, chill, cripple, poison, etc, then I’m being an effective member of the team.

One of the major reasons I prefer the 30/30/x setup is that should I end up in a party comp with too much bleed stacking, I can quickly switch things up to a more hybrid/zerker build, just by changing gear.

I just find it funny how before release their entire premise was “play how you want to play”, and yet a year after release and we still can’t do even that….unless you’re a PvPer, because Anet seem to be so focused on PvP that they couldn’t care that everytime the nerf us for PvP, we become even worse in WvW or PvE.

I DON’T PVP!! So why the hell should I get effected by changes to PvP?! DS used to be the only way to tank a huge spike (think Mossman in the Swamp fractal, I used to pop DS before he unvis’d just to tank that initial hit), or in WvW it was a great escape tactic, leaping off a cliff if you got too overwhelmed and popping DS to survive the fall.

I can understand how these things might be unfair in a PvP game, but then fix PvP, don’t break 2 other game modes just to please those who are QQing about Necros being OP, they can get over themselves, if Necro is OP in PvP, then it just makes up for how kitten they are everywhere else.

Done.

Why put a time limit on it? That defeats the purpose. I don’t want to have to grind laurels for months to gear an alt, then to grind for months again just to purchase the same stat items for another alt.

I be somewhat pleased with being able to purchase something sort of like a transmutation crystal to do this, but I’d rather see a system whereby the Ascended/Legendary (ie highest stat gear) was account bound, allowing us to switch them between characters at will, without having to pay gems for the privilege.

Ascended gear Acccount bound/unsoulbindable

in Suggestions

Posted by: jakalofnaar.1702

Ascended gear is a lot more of a grind to acquire than exotic items. Many of which can only be obtained after x days. When trying out different builds, we might soulbind the item to a character only to realise that the build is not effective or the piece of gear should rather be something else.

Without a way to remove the soulbinding on these items they become virtually useless and you’ve ultimately wasted 20-40 laurels (+- 20 days), or Guild Commendations, etc.

It would be great if ascended gear could be Account bound so that we could chop-and-change whenever we want, but I’d settle for just being able to remove the soulbinding in some way.

It’s a work flow issue, hope this makes sense. It would also mean that players would have to learn 3 different versions of every skill, which is not good for new players.

Not buying it. And neither are most other PVE’ers. Have yet to see one complete set of balance changes clearly designed to help PvE’ers and maybe showed the slightest disregard for up-lel PvP. It’s always going in the other direction. And somehow still not satisfying the PvP’ers as this thread demonstrates. Even some of the PvE dungeons lately seem more like a PvP arena than something clearly intended to be fair to every class in PvE. If that isn’t trying to condition PvE’ers to accept PvP as the “Alpha and Omega” here, then I don’t know what is… (maybe ya ain’t noticed, but they judge alpha by what gives the best l00t)

Agree with this ^

As primarily a PvE player, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen some “balance” update which makes a skill/trait virtually useless in PvE, just so it’s balanced for PvP. I’m sorry but PvP, WvW, and PvE have, from the start, been completely different “games”, to balance them all with the reasons you’ve stated just isn’t justified IMO. You will NEVER be able to have all three at just the right balance. Balance one and the other two become unbalanced!

Please don’t forget that not all of us enjoy the PvP aspects of the game. Players are not completely useless that they won’t notice that traits/skills work a little different in PvP, I realised it the very first time I stepped into PvP.

Splitting the skills would be the easiest solution for the PLAYERS. The reason you have given above seems more like you’re suggesting that it’s the players’ fault, because we are dumb and can’t figure these things out on our own, and I find that quite insulting.

Gotta say…I don’t agree with Anet completely throwing out everything form GW1. It was a great game, and should have taught them tons of stuff which they could have taken across into this game, but instead they scrapped it all in favour of starting completely from scratch.

I agree with many of the points made, and I find it frustrating that after so many months, and probably enough community posts to fill an encyclopaedia, we still haven’t had ANY response from the devs…

Why are the lesser classes (cause let’s be honest, we not alone in this boat as necros) getting the cold shoulder. Our classes are poorly designed, just look at the traits! Reanimator?! WTH with that bullocks? And I HAVE to take it to get greater marks, which IMO should be the default mark size anyway…

In closing…the necro class was a hatchet job, was rushed, and nerfed to oblivion to balance PvP. I didn’t even get to see the old Death Shroud that was apparently so much better :<

Ideas to improve weapon sets and balance 100B

Hi all,

I have had two thought this week, and wish to share them with you and get your opinions.

Firstly, we all know how much heat Anet is getting for the Zerker-100Blades warrior. I have one and can attest to it’s damage output. I do however notice that we mainly spam 1 till 2 is up then 100 blades for 30-40k. This to me screams “burst skill”. Why is such a powerful skill on our GS 2 and not the actual GS burst skill? Who uses the GS burst skill anyway? It’s useless!

Why not switch the two around? Making 100-Blades the GS burst skill, and the current burst skill the GS 2? This way the burst skill is actual usefull, and gives warriors some resource management.

Secondly, while levelling my thief I noticed one rather cool feature, which I wish we had for ALL classes.

When switching your off-hand weapon, your number 3 skill changes to something unique to that weapon sets combination of main and off hand abilities!

To me this is awesome, because looking at many of the other classes number 3 skills, many of them are virtually useless.

To give an example: Feast of Corruption on Necro’s scepter scales with power, yet all the other scepter skills are condition based. This makes the skill completely useless outside of it’s life force generation, which is minuscule to say the least.

If all classes had this mechanic, that number 3 skill would be far more useful, as it would (hopefully) complement the current weapon set at all times, making certain weapon combinations more viable. As it stands many weapon combinations are not widely used because they just aren’t as effective as others, at least changing just skill 3 could provide a little more viability to these weapon sets.

I know it’s supposed to be a thief only mechanic, but why? It’s not like it’s especially “thiefy”.

What are your thoughts? Would these changes weaken the current classes? Would they create large balance issues? Would warriors mind the change to 100B, and would thieves mind giving up one of their class bonuses so we all could gain some more build variety?

Patch Notes - Necro - 3-26-13

While I applaud the DS UI change, I can’t say I’m overly impressed with Anet at the moment. Why is it that the Necro gets virtually no love whatsoever when the already OP Warriors get a nice buff to their banners, and Engies basically have their entire class rebalanced?

Both classes received heavy handed nerfs far outweighing the minor buffs actually, although in the case of Warriors they came in the form of the global quickness adjustment rather than a class specific change.

I don’t play either class TBH, but from what I’ve heard from guildies they are all pretty happy with their changes (esp. the engies). The warriors were upset about the quickness nerf, but love their banners now. They quickly added a banner to their builds xD

While they might have had many nerfs aswell as buffs, they still got far more attention from Anet than the necro did. I mean health siphoning from walls i W3, really? Was there really nothing more important they could have used their time on. Perhaps it’s a W3 thing, I don’t do much W3 so can’t comment really..

Anyway, it doesn’t really make me wanna play my necro any less, I love my necro to bits, it’s just frustrating when playing in a group and you can really feel that all you are is a number filling a party slot.

I wouldn’t have an issue if after a dungeon/fractal the team was grateful they had a Necro in the group. But so far it seems the only classes who people are really grateful to have in a party are, as Kravick said, the Guardians, Warriors and Mesmers (I smell a new type of holy trinity forming here….)

Looking back at GW1, a good PARTY build was just as important as a good character build. The synergy between classes was great, and virtually any class could find a place in the team. I feel somewhere along the way Anet lost this class synergy. Sure conditions, boons and combo fields are supposed to provide this synergy, but it doesn’t work as well IMO, or maybe as a Necro I’m just not as useful in providing this sort of support?

But I have hope yet. The engie was apparently the least played class, and they had almost their entire class reworked. Maybe it’s our turn next?

I mean, come on, the amount of crap I take for playing a Necro in PvE is astounding. And it’s not like I completely disagree with what people say.

I would like to see Necro’s become a more viable party memeber than they are now. I’ve seen it said many times before, whatever we can do, another class can do better. I prefer a supportive role, so I can’t speak for the powermancers out there, but as a CM I feel like I’m not contributing much to the team. I would like more access to conditions, not just bleed but things like Vulnerability, Weakness, Chill, etc. – things that would actually be useful to the party and help increase their survivabilty and damage output.

As it stands I kind of have to focus on ONE condition to be effective in it. That’s why we see these “CMs” who’s only real condition is bleed, let’s face it….that’s NOT a CM, a CM should be applying and spreading CONDITIONS, plural.

I don’t like to rant, but I feel we deserve atleast some sort of recognition, or am I just being totally unreasonable and Necros are actually at a good place and I’m just no good at playing it?

Server Guesting must go! (Or change)

I fully agree with the OP. I have to say that I find these people highly annoying and am at the point where I feel these kinds of people should be treated along the same lines as bots.

The only solution I really agree with is to downright deny the guesters a chest after finishing an event on a server which is NOT their home server. This means people who actually use guesting for what it’s meant for can still enjoy the system.

Anet – make the fix, you know you should….

Creators of Light and Night (CLaN) is looking for ZA players (FoW)

in Guilds

CLaN is a small guild out of South Africa based on the FoW (Fissure of Woe) server. We don’t profess to be a group of elite or great players, we play to have fun and enjoy the world of Tyria.

Our member base is currently really small and made up of casual players. None of us have reached end-game or even attempted a dungeon yet, but we are are looking for players to take part in this content.

So if you’re a fellow South African, or if you’re interested in joining a friendly guild, let us know! You can leave a message in this topic or whisper myself, Sera Phene, in-game. If you aren’t interested in joining the guild but wouldn’t mind getting together in-game for some dungeon and/or event play, then by all means let us know! We’d love to hear from you.
