Druids Celestial Form, or “Life Shroud” allows them to still use utilities while transformed, so what’s the latest reason we can’t use our utilities in Death Shroud?
I’m still annoyed that they think a short duration chill and a couple seconds of stability is grounds for such an enormous cast time AND ridiculous cooldown.
Compare it to Guardians “Feel My Wrath”, dear God…Quickness AND Fury to ALL party members on a 30 second cooldown?!
Related, but does it really take 2 seconds to shout “Chilled to the Bone”? Way to break the immersion Anet…
This patch has breathed a much needed breath of fresh air into the combat system for me.
I can totally understand where you’re coming from with the changes to conditions but I plead you not to take it to extremes. Bear in mind that we’re basically starting with a clean slate, it’s going to take time before things settle.
As a Necro I do however have to agree with a lot of the concerns put forward by many of the Necros on this forum:
1. Compared to many other classes our condi builds are quite underpowered. Engies have access to more conditions, included all the damaging conditions under the sun, and their ramp up time is far quicker.
2. Our heals need a look at after the CC nerf.
3. Condi builds have never really had a strong elite other than Plague, which in it’s current form is basically a suicide button.
I have no numbers to back up my claims like Dan does, but I have also definitely seen the same. Why they thought the nerf to drop rate was appropriate was beyond me. Hells, why they thought putting these things behind a stupid RNG gate, behind a time gate, still erks me.
Still have a guildie who has completed fractal frequenter, and probably run close to 1k fractals, if not more, and hasn’t seen a single fractal weapon or ascended chest drop.
Anet, please sort out your RNG gates, because these drop rates are incredibly ridiculous, especially when you have to run such unrewarding content just for a minute chance at getting them.
I’ve been running a full rabid, condi necro since release, and have taken her to high level fractals. I enjoy it more than any other class/build in the game.
To this day I still think it’s a pretty underated build inside of fractals, especially the higher you go. But perhaps I notice it more because I don’t pug, so we’re a somewhat organized group.
I do hope you find a build you enjoy playing. Don’t just go with the meta if you aren’t going to enjoy it
To this day I find this decision incredibly silly. I get that some classes have access to prot/blocks, but that’s only really effective against direct damage attacks, against conditions it’s completely useless. Sure you can block that one bleed from a necro…a second later its there anyways, and now you’ve wasted a block, and because your HP is so low, the bleed is pwning your HP….
I think the differences in armor values between high, medium, and low are enough to differentiate between the classes, why they had to reduce HP as well seems like overkill to me.
Lol? So wait, are all the people having this issue South African?!
I’m posting this in an attempt to bring further attention to this issue. It seems when issues affect a minority of the player base, the devs couldn’t care less. Even though there doesn’t seem to be a shortage of posts on these forums regarding this very issue…

So please leave Well of Power alone, I don’t want to see it nerfed or its already long CD increased, especially that unlike most of you above me, I actually use it as one of my constants as do those that run wellomancer builds.
You do realise a lot of us are asking for it to be buffed, not nerfed right?
Variations on a theme:
1) WoP pulses 1 second of stability every second for 5 seconds for the necromancer only. No other changes.
2) WoP gives 1 second of stability to the necromancer and up to 4 other allies within its radius. No other changes.
3) WoP pulses 1 second of stability every second for 5 seconds for the necromancer and up to 4 other allies within its radius. Recharge increased appropriately.
4) WoP pulses 1 second of stability every second for 10 seconds for the necromancer and up to 4 other allies within its radius. Optional: for each condition converted to a boon, the affected player is also healed for X amount (should be less than the amount achievable with Well of Blood; 100 healing per conversion, perhaps). Recharge increased to 180 seconds. WoP is now an elite skill. A new utility well skill is added to take its place.
1) I think this would go against the nature of wells, which all serve some sort of support to allies (as long as they, or and enemy, stand inside them)
2) Isn’t it doing this already, or did you mean to say 1s of stability on each tick?
3) This sounds like what I originally thought it did, however I can’t agree with an increase in cooldown. It’s already on a pretty hefty cooldown, and just increasing the stability from 1s to 5s doesn’t really make it OP
4) Seems interesting, although I don’t see many using another party wide heal, as there are way better utilities than heals, and the condi conversion is pretty good in and of itself.
IMO the simplest “buff” they could give the skill is leave it exactly how it is now, but let it grant 1s of stability per tick. A 5 second stability really isn’t much, and the skill isn’t even instant, so it’s still a pretty situational skill.
Why hasn’t this been tested out enough before of the implementation.
And how would you suggest that they test things like these?
The issues turned up because a massive amount of people tried to connect at the same time.
You can never simulate that with testing.
This is not entirely true, and is why a lot of MMO’s provide a PTS. Even using tools which simulate large volumes of players wouldn’t find a lot of the bugs IRL players have been finding.
i think its out of place for a game like this, i can understand the sylvari but not humans.
Ye, because it makes way more sense for plants to be lesbian.
My biggest gripe with this….being in the EU timezones, I will only be able to experience this content a day later now, because it’s released in the late evening (GMT+2), and because of the issues, it’s now 23:59 and I still haven’t been able to see any of the Edge of the Mists. Kinda wasted my entire evening now waiting :P
We’re sorry for the inconvenience. Our team is working as fast as they can to fix the issues and get WvW and EoTM back up and running.
Hehe, thanks for the reply! I should probably get some sleep anyway, been running Wurm till late in the night the past few days xD
Hope your team gets it sorted soon though

Woah, wasn’t expecting some of the big-name necro’s \:D/
Glad to see I’m not the only one who’d like to see this skill buffed a little, kinda thought I was completely missing something regarding the skill, where it had some niche use case.
This skill has confused me for a while now, to the point I thought it was bugged, but apparently not…
I thought it was meant to apply a 1s stability with each tick for 5 ticks, totalling 5s, but instead, you only get 1 second of stability! While converting conditions with each tick is nice and all, it’s not enough to justify a high cooldown IMO.
Is there a reason we can’t get stability on each tick rather? Outside of 30 points into soul reaping this is our ONLY form of stability.
Just like to point out to all the condition necromancers out there.
Dhumfire is in the power trait line… if your claiming to be a condition mancer why on earth have you got a full line of power trait… if that’s the case your doing it wrong.
That being said… Moving Dhumfire into DS may help the power necromancers / Hybrids as that’s what DS is mostly used for.. It’s still not the real answer to the over problem (Just need to read everyone else’s view to know that) I hope in the future this can be corrected, because atm.. it’s not that great of a change especially when your in pvp/wvw
As a rebuttal…why then, is there a condition trait in a power line? Going 30 into Spite to pick up Dhuumfire isn’t entirely uncommon in condition builds, especially in PvE. As condimancers in PvE we try to maximise our access to different conditions, especially damaging ones, meaning that for many of us 30/30/x has become a staple because bleeds+poison+burn+terror have the best damage potential we can get.
You also seem to forget that Spite also adds +30% condi duration, which is NOT entirely useless to a condimancer.
I’m Speaking from a purely PvE Necro PoV
As requested, in point form:
- I haven’t touched my necro in months because of all the nerfing to the class. Condition builds are getting completely screwed by balance fixes seemingly designed around PvP gameplay.
- This needs to stop. You CAN’T balance two entirely separate game modes with the same fixes, why you keep trying just boggles my mind.
- As for the Dhuumfire fix…well I think by now you should have seen that the general consensus amongst us is we hate it.
- If you wanted to give us access to burn, and make it’s use more skilful, why not have it work similar to the Chilling Darkness trait, perhaps apply burn when you apply fear or something?
I have a guildie that’s run over 600 fractals and hasn’t seen a single fractal weapon drop, that’s just ridiculous. The person in question is so over fractals because of this that they refuse to play fractals anymore.
I’m calling bullkitten here.
I’ve run Fractals for a while now, and so far I’ve gotten:
- Fractal GS (Pre-Fractured).
- Fractal Sword.
- Fractal Shortbow.
- Fractal Longbow.
- Fractal Dagger (Pre-Fractured).
- Fractal Warhorn.
- Fractal Rifle.
- Fractal Hammer.
- Fractal Pistolx4
- Chorben’s Weapon Chestx2
- Soros’ Weapon Chest.
- Stonecleaver’s Weapon Chest.
- Zintl Armor Chest.
If anything, I believe that the droprate was increased by quite a bit.
Call bullkitten all you want, doesn’t change the fact that what I said is entirely true. Whether you choose to believe me or not is entirely up to you.
With the 18% drop confirmed by many on reddit ( i could confirm also) pre patch its quite difficult to believe….
Sorry to say but it’s entirely true, I have done virtually EVERY fractal with said person. As for proof, how would you prove NOT receiving something, it’s not like you can take a screenshot of something you don’t have…
Haven’t done many fractals since the Mari patch, will run a couple and see for myself, but I personally saw a huge difference in drop rates since the Fractured patch (I myself have gotten quite a few of them, never the one I want though)
Hahaha, that corner is pretty useful :P
There’s also a spot you can stand to AFK the fire pillars
Let me open by saying I think the idea of these fractals is really great, and I’ve had tremendous fun in them.
But…
The rewards are bordering on the dismal, even more so since the drop rate of the weapons has been nerfed. They were already somewhat difficult to get, and when you did you weren’t even guaranteed one you want, now it’s almost impossible to get one.
I have a guildie that’s run over 600 fractals and hasn’t seen a single fractal weapon drop, that’s just ridiculous. The person in question is so over fractals because of this that they refuse to play fractals anymore.
It’s not only the fractal weapons though, the rewards in general are quite lacking. Fractals can take far longer than dungeons and yet our gold reward is pathetic, and the chests hardly drop better loot the higher level you do.
On a related note…what’s up with that Molten fractal chest?! It gives a green, a blue and an infusion every time?! Far less loot than any other fractal? Is it’s loot table bugged or something?
Anet seem to fear the Necro in general, leaving us in this sort of limbo. Why don’t other classes fear us as much as Anet does?!
Once again they nerf our class because of the whiners in sPvP. This trait has caused more issues than it was worth, and it’s kind of forced most condi builds to go 30 into Spite just to be a little more effective in other areas of the game.
Their planned “fix” is totally idiocy though. It’s only going to leave us in an even worse spot in PvE, where we’re probably already the worst off class in the game.
This is why I hate how they refuse to split the skills between game modes, it keeps on fudging players of mode X and Y every time they balance for Z.
As a full condi necro I completely applaud this suggestion! Really great solution, love it.
distribute players by parceling them out one platform at a time like a poker dealer rather than selecting platforms for them randomly? Really? As a programmer myself I was astonished when I found out that it was possible to have 5 on one platform and 1 on another. I mean, this is really basic stuff!
Having 5 on one platform and 1 on another could only be a very edge case requiring several people to drop out at the right moment. Our script does exactly what you said, poker dealer style.
I’m afraid to say, this isn’t very “edge-case” at all. It’s happened numerous times on my server, and more than once in a single attempt. Just now we failed an attempt because every platform had 5-8 players except one which had one lonely player, then the very next chain, same thing.
Failing because people mess up is one thing, but because RNG decides to screw you is a totally different ball game…
Lol…omw that response xD
Why were consumables even put in to the game in the first place if you were just going to make them all completely useless anyway?
Your logic is flawed. Period.
Looka like my necro is becoming even more useless in PvE now. This is becoming a real joke now. Every balance patch they screw up the necro in PvE more and more because of balance issues in PvP.
You say you want to avoid splitting where possible, but is it really feasible when your game modes scale completely differently? Condis are so strong in PvP/WvW because players have smaller HP pools, yet they are virtually useless in PvE because of the general tankiness of mobs.
All nerfing berserker gear will do is punish better players, not make other gear more viable.
Please be careful with statements like this. There is absolutely NO proof that wearing berzerker gear makes you a better player. It doesn’t require as much skill to zerker as everyone makes it out to be, it’s not hard to learn boring encounters so that you know where to stack and when to dodge that slow, hard-hitting attack.
I’d be extremely surprised and dissapointed in Anet if the nerf/remove zerker gear. The issue is not the stats themselves, but encounter design being so mundane that it can be done with your eyes closed.
And all those whining about conditions in PvP/WvW…if you get my necro nerfed in PvE again I’m going to find you and make you suffer. I’m tired of being nerfed to oblivion in my preferred game mode becuase it’s “unbalanced” in other modes.
Why is it called vampirism when it doesn’t even work the same as all the other vampiric stuff in the game?! Vampiric runes – health when YOU hit something, life siphoning (arguably vampiric), also health when YOU hit something. Even this signets name is sucky.
The problem is not in the stats themselves!
I love how this discussions seems to have drifted once again towards gear and their stats. OP clearly states the problem is NOT stat related.
One of the things that really peeves me personally about the current meta, is that anything outside of pure DPS is just not optimal, which not only makes builds redundant, but entire classes too. I main a necro, and I’ve seen it time and time again:
“I can’t believe im involved in a debate with someone who thinks necros are more useful than any other class.”
That quote sums it up. I love my condition necro to bits, and have put countless hours into gearing her, even to the point that she is now completely ascended…but she is almost completely useless in PvE.
So while improving PvE mob AI may bring forward some sort of solution to the DPS meta, I still feel like individual classes still need to be looked at and brought in line with other, more useful classes. Now that doesn’t mean that classes need to be nerfed, I mean certain classes need to be buffed, or traits and skills need to be looked at. There are far too many useless traits and skills in this game.
Seriously, it’d be nice to actually have a reason to use my Necromancer in a dungeon for once. You could flat increase the effect of condition damage in PvE by 50% and it still wouldn’t compare to most power-based builds.
Here here! I’m sorry to say, but as a PvE player, and a Necro main, this is so far a bit of a disappointing set of updates. It’s pretty clear these are primarily PvP balance changes, and is not really bringing the effectiveness or build diversity PvE players are looking for from most of the “non-meta” classes.
Our goal for many of the classes was to increase build diversity while still maintaining class roles and identities.
I was under the impression – from vids/advertising/etc. during development – that any class was meant to be able to perform any role, be it DPS, support, or control? Because where some classes can provide all three, and can provide them each pretty effectively, other classes are sorely lacking in every role.
Quash the DPS > everything in PvE, make control/support/condition builds more viable and I have a feeling you’ll make many people a whole lot happier
PvE
1) Class/build/role balance – certain classes/builds/roles rule the meta, this needs to be addressed as not all of us enjoy playing those classes/builds/roles
2) RNG/DR/Rewards – RNG favours a few, but a lot of us haven’t seen a shred of good RNG since launch, with the DR and farming nerfs, certain items have become incredibly hard to come by whereas before we could reliably farm certain areas for these items (we didn’t get tone of it, but certainly more than the RNG chance at one random mat from and RNG chance at a Heavy Moldy Bag drop…). Rewards in general are pretty lackluster
3) Less frequent, but larger, more interesting LS content – at the moment the LS is rolled out fast, but the content is only good for a couple days, ultimately leaving me with the feeling that the LS is just dragging on and on, and I find it’s loosing it’s impact/becoming less interesting
I have around 1400 healing power. Transfusing heals for about 4000 and Deathly Invigoration heals for about 900. It isn’t that bad.
The problem with level 48+ Fractal is that it is all one hit kill. Either our allies get one hit killed, or we ourselve gets one hit killed. No healing would help you. So in there it is all about Berserker.
Don’t get me wrong, I definitely see the value in party heals, but Guardian also has some strong heals, and they provide a lot more support, so if the party really wanted heals wouldn’t they prefer the Guard?
And like you say, in higher level content heals just aren’t as effective. Even in most dungeons with an organized group damage is favoured over anything else at the moment. Anet need to make room for other roles in groups for PvE content.
Yes gimme gimme gimme! And I also want sword, and hammer. And I want the skills to be useful.
I think I’m missing something here, why are we being pidgeon holed into condition builds? I kinda get it for PvP/WvW, but in PvE conditions builds are pretty weak, especially when most other more viable classes have better access to those conditions?
Still think Anet are being pretty stupid trying to balance PvP, WvW, and PvE without splitting the skills between the two. If you wanna do that then you have to bring the PvE mobs down to the level of players, because anything that isn’t a trash mob in this game makes condition/control builds seem like a big waste of time.
Just saying.
This patch sucked for just about all classes – except warrior. So basically they wanted support roles to be more viable, so they improved our party healing with Transfusion? No offense to those that use it, and speaking from a purely PvE point of view her, but that’s a pretty useless trait in a dungeon group.
As far as a support role goes, we’re pretty much right where we were pre-patch….standing outside the dungeon looking for a group who’s desperate enough to take us.
Rather than “class-balance” they need to do power/control/support balance as a whole, because in PvE, power scales like a mofo, control is an afterthought (and usually comes from minor traits, or utilities from DPSers), and support can come from a single party member – and that’s only if you really need it…
I really wish they’d just slow down a bit on their LS updates so they can put more devs onto actually fixing these areas of the game.
It is obvious the devs dont care and are just plain ignoring guardian problems.. just wish I would have known that guardians would be the forgotten class (ever game ends up with 1 class that is obvious the black sheep no dev cares about)
Lol? Are you sure about that statement? Because I’ve played a Necro since release and can tell you we’ve probably received far less love than the Guardian has. And let’s not forget Engies, Rangers, etc.
I don’t think they ignore Guardian at all, but there’s one thing I will agree on, and that is that they do seem to have their favourites. If things continue the way they are, I wouldn’t be surprised if 80% of the players just re-roll to Warrior….
This is what I’m seeing to the Aurora Glade (EU) server from Cape Town, South Africa.

Unfortunately this has been happening to quite a few people over the last few months, and the closest thing to a response was that it was a “routing issue”, effectively meaning it’s not their problem.
What’s strange is that it only seems to be a minority of the playerbase. I’d imagine a routing issue to effect a larger amount of people. I mean I have friends in the same city, using the same ISP and they aren’t effected.
Using a proxy service does help a little, although you will still get some terrible lag from time to time, but I can’t find a free one, which unfortunately means you have to pay every month to play the game.
Been getting this for over a month, only way I found to sort of fix it was to pay for a proxy service. Seriously, can we get someone to look at this? I don’t buy that it’s a routing issue, if it was then how could friends on the same ISP in the same city have perfect connections?
I’m hoping Valve will cause a paradigm shift in the game developer community with their SteamOS/SteamBox. Honestly the only reason developers see high volumes of Windows players is because they refuse to release Linux versions of their games.
I can promise you now, if you gave us the option, most gamers would switch to Linux in a heartbeat!
It also erks me whenever I see a game written solely in DirectX. As developers you’ve basically limited the amount of platforms your product can run on, and shouldn’t you be trying to maximize this?
OpenGL has been used to power some really ground breaking AAA games the last few years, and is completely Opensource, why developers continue to disregard it is confusing to me.
But then what do I know about game development, I’m just a lowly web developer….
+1 on trait redesign, or removing them completely and instead having gear determine builds, or replace the trait/skill system with the GW1 system, or anything that isn;t the current trait system
With respect of course…
AFAIK Anet have attributed this to routing issues along the path from your location to the game servers. The only known fix is to sign up for a proxy service such as BattlePing, effectively meaning we need to pay a subscription fee to play the game lag free…
Funny thing is, a guildie who lives in the same city, and on the same ISP hasn’t had any lag, so I’m not sure how that factors in to the “routing issues” reason Anet has given.
Here’s hoping they actually look into this, as a laggy MMO is not a very entertaining experience.
I don’t understand how I’m affected by this lag when a guildie how lives in the same city, using the same ISP, doesn’t get it…
I’m basically paying a monthly fee to play this game now, because I have to pay for a proxy service each month! If it’s as simple as sending traffic through a proxy, can’t they give us some command line args we can use to specify a proxy server to proxy our traffic through?!
I was surprised to see so many saying that the condi builds are stronger, when AFAIK, power builds rule the meta (in PvE at least).
I personally don’t like were conditions are in PvE. I’ve mained a condimancer since day one, and while levelling it was pretty sweet, but as soon as you hit the mid to high 70’s and 80 it all goes to kitten.
Even with full condition damage, 25 stacks of bleed and 25 stacks of might, we hardly do the same DPS that a warriors auto attack does. It’s not an issue in PvP or WvW where you’re fighting players which have no where near the toughness or HP of most PvE mobs, but in PvE it really makes builds which focus on conditions for damage a joke.
Apart from that, everyone and their grandmother is throwing around bleed nowadays, which really hurts our DPS.
I would like to see a better condition meta. Perhaps something along the lines of class specific conditions. And having our damaging conditions scaled a little better in PvE so that we’re a little more useful from a DPS point of view.
Also make CC’s useful on mobs which aren’t trash. The introduction of Defiant, and the reduction in effectiveness of certain conditions on certain mobs kinda makes conditions too weak in PvE, unless you have an abundance of access to certain conditions which aren’t really effected (I think chill is largely unaffectedby these limitations)
I also want greatsword on my necro, because I want to use my Twilight on my necro (it’s the ONLY legendary that really suits a necro, or at least my necro) and this is the ONLY way you’ll get me to switch away from a condition build.
I did create another thread about this, but I’d also like to see some better condition manipulation from DS, something along the lines of how the underwater DS can transfer conditions from allies to yourself, then transfer then back to mobs using #1.
I may be asking for way too much, in fact I know I am. But for someone who really likes to play around with conditions, the current state of them in PvE is just saddening. If I invest everything into conditions I should still be just as useful as someone who invested everything in zerking (and I don’t mean that in a damage sense). If I made up for the lack in DPS in some other way, then I think I’d be happy.
