That is almost 100% wrong.
1) Blind is amazing as a support ability, 5 out of 50 missing the next attack is still 5 mobs that won’t land their next hit. And as far as I know, blinding is still 10% as effective on a boss so it still serves some utility (albeit a very small amount). Yes, blind is useless during an activity which just hurts you for
4) That is not true at all. Those buffs are only good if you are taking consistent dmg (prot/regen), enduring dmg spikes (prot/regen), or have trouble moving around (vigor). Vulnerability is ALWAYS useful (although I must agree on the zerg comment) because people are always attacking. 1% more dmg means the boss goes down 1% faster, while those other buffs just ensure I can survive a longer fight.

1) 45 out of 50 hitting you means… you are dead anyway.
2) 10% chance on boss? so it is basically 9/10 times bosses hit you… they can usually 1 or 2 shot you… so they can overkill you 4 times before a miss… nice!
3) while prot/regen are usefull (not when you are taking spike damage) let’s say more in general “when you are taking any kind of damage” they are still good and not every class can stack them. On the other hand we have “vulnerability” which is an ability spammed by every single class without the need to create a combo but simply using their dps rotation. Since there is a stack cap (25) it is not completely useless but pretty much… especially if you consider you have to be “stuck” to stack (lol) which means you get damage boost when you get hit… obviously against some bosses which can 1-2 shot you… this is like:

me: oh yes! now i can boost my party damage! go boss, hit me!!!
boss: ??? * attack *
me: kitten I’m dead… but my party got 1% more damage… for 8 sec…
party: well let’s ress him and waste those 8 sec of 1% damage bost
me: i’m very usefull, am I?
party: -.-’’ * vote kick *

To address your OP. The ability to provide support by the guardian class is still far and away the best out of the 8 classes. However, Guardian dps has been a bit slow for quite a while, and while you may have a vision of a guardian as a support class each individual class needs to perform at a certain level for any content played solo. On top of that, 5 man content is “balanced” around an average dps output from 5 players (in most cases). Buffs to our “selfish” abilities were necessary to assist with the average player maintaining a baseline dps during these situations. We have enough traits that can enhance a good "party support) role without forcing the class into that role. The new traits have enhanced options for solo and group play and have made taking a guardian that much more viable.

what we got isn’t a direct “dps increase”, as others stated before only few ppl will use meditations in pve simply because those are more optimized for sPvP… so what we basically got is a “low dps increase for pve content that forces us to use, again, meditations avoiding our support role, which is every update worse, and giving us the illusion of an higher dps”.

what kind of vuln application are u doing that u cant dodge?

meditations are so bad in pve i dont know why u feel forced to take them?

All Canines’ Howls = 1.50s cast time
All Drakes’ Breaths = 1.50s cast time
Lynx’s Rending Pounce = 1.50s cast time

for glyph of ele, YOU YOURSELF HAVE TO CAST FOR 0.75sec to queue the ability for the elemental to use
then pray to rngesus that the ele actually uses it instead of screwing up and that takes about 3-5sec

i don’t know about raw numbers, but the ability to control the burst is in fact a buff. at least for me and of course only in pvp. i wouldn’t use elemental anywhere else

Nope, good elementalist can full heal, have more passive speen more ways to run out of combat.

Ok guys, before the thread derails let me explain. You are all right but actually only Aeolus got what i said.

The problem with the actual guardian is that while other classes got in the last few months buff and improvements to the supportive side we only got improvements on the dps side; the result? Now we are mediocre at support and not enough at dps… so while before we were “unique” for the support now the only thing we are unique is that kitten WALL only this!

first of all for those who say “guardian isn’t supposed to be supporter” read the description here: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/guardian/

then in order to avoid a wall of text i want to “counter” every skil set of guardian then you can tell me where i’m wrong:

consecrations: these are the only “unique” skills of guardian! Wall and Hallowed Ground are the only reason guardian are needed in party but, BUT these are only for certain situations… who will use a Wall in CoF? Then guardians are useless.

meditations: these are supposed to be the “dps” and gives you effects (teleports, burn etc), heals (2k), fury (4sec), all that with reduced cd and in 5x, really?

shouts: support? 3 condi remove on a 24, 28, 48 sec… and… some boons anyone can spam? … these are quite, QUITE good but as the main support aspect of this class them suck if compared to other classes!

signets: nothing to say; selfish and not usefull at all.

weapons: selfish and not usefull at all… but wait we got a 2k heal on bow! so now them are supposed to be “support”… because of those 2k heal… aoe… really… “support”… not useless… not a waste of space… now it is called “support”… nice.

I’m sorry guys if i look a bit aggressive but i can’t believe i started a class like guardian which is turning into a warrior… a mediocre warrior. And all this is going to improve the zerg mentality of the game… less support more zerging… less defensive abilities more teleports in the face of enemies which award you with heals and fury… well i think i’ll roll a warrior then…

the only positive change is that the icon changes color according to attunement and their skill icons are pretty awesome

other than that their functionality sucks and their skills should be off the GCD just like other professions summon’s skill

idk there was a bug when the last 2 extra seconds of lava font did not really count as a fire field so if u blast it u gain no might
it was pretty inconsistent pre patch so im not sure if they were fixing this or not

anyway postpatch all 6 secs count as fire field now

like sometimes after i place fire bomb i use rifle turret and spam healong turret my rifle turret gets cancelled out and gets placed on a 3sec cooldown
anyway to stop that?

my might stacking rotation
1. place big ol bomb
2. fire bomb, place rifle turret, place healing turret
3. fire bomb explodes, i overcharge healing turret, healing for extra
4. detonate both turrets
this gives like.. 9 stacks of might

the question i wanna ask is for my 3rd utility skill, what should i use for stacking more might?
i think thumper turret is a good choice but i always find it hard to squeeze in the last blast finisher (rumble) and end up blasting a water field instead
some people suggested throw mine but sometimes when i throw it before setting fire bomb and turrets it suddenly explodes for no reason and leaves me with one less finisher
elixir gun has also been suggested but its kinda hard to squeeze it acid bomb if u wanna set up turrets after fire bombto get extra healing from overcharging healing turret. furthermore the cooldown of acid bomb, traited or not doesnt really sync with firebomb’s cooldown
rocket boots kinda propels me too far even when cancelled

any advice ?

make axe 1 and 2 cleave in a 120 cone in front of you with 600 range
axe 3 becomes blast finisher

introduce a grandmaster trait probs in first tree
Unholy Aura : grants nearby allies 150 ferocity and 5% lifesteal

fix the bloody 25 kitten minor trait in the first tree
every 10% of own health reduced grants 10 sec of might
health lost in death shroud only grants half the duration of might (5sec)
or
every 10% of opponent’s health deducted grants 2 stacks of vuln for 10secs

make lifesteal traits work in deathshroud

change deathly perception

camp fire attunement spam 2 and 5
4 fireballs between each lava font
use arcane briliance as healing skill
utilities : arcane wave, signet of fire, one free utility skill

free utility skill : icebow for huge objects/mobs (AC P1 and P3 graveling boss, CoF P1 Effigy boss, world bosses)
glyph of elemental power/harmony (i forgot which one) : use in air for weakness on bosses, use in earth if solo (crippled so they are more likely to stay in your lava font)
glyph of sandstorms : cast in earth for 10sec of blinding
mist form/armor of earth/cleansing flame/arcane shield : extra survability

lifesteal food to increase uptime on scholar bonus and vital striking

Assuming you take no cooldown reduction traits,
Healing Turret, rifle turret, thumper turret and bomb kit, your rotation will start of like this

Opener
1. Place the 3 turrets
2. swap to bomb kit, place big ol’ bomb, place fire bomb, auto attack once
3. overcharge thumper turret, detonate all 3 turrets, use eruption (thumper turret toolbelt skills)
4. swap to rifle, 3 and 5 (2 too if you took sitting duck)
The above will give you 18 stacks of might

every alternate fire bomb will align with the cooldown of your healing and rifle turret, making it easy to stack might.
normally after detonating healing and rifle turret your rifle 3 and 5 should be up
autoattack with bomb kit otherwise

0 secs : opener
10 sec : fire bomb no finisher
20 sec : fire bomb + healing + rifle turret
30 sec : fire bomb + big ol bomb
40 sec : fire bomb + healing + rifle turret
50 sec : fire bomb no finisher
60 sec : fire bomb + big ol bomb + healing + rifle + thumper turret

This would not be a good DPS rotation. The cost of a few extra Might stacks is far too great. The Engi is much too versatile a profession to be using up entire trait slots for a blast finisher (on a 50s cooldown to boot) that does nothing else.

Elixir Gun, Throw Mine, even Rocket Boots are all blast finishers that are also valuable in other ways. I could grant you the Rifle Turret, but even then unless in a SD build I wouldn’t bring it solely for a blast finisher.

throw mine can replace rifle turret for blast finisher as it still aligns with healing turret’s cd
the reason i dont use elixir gun or rocket boots is that their blast finishers can put me in an awkward position

the problem with going with scepter is that you are probably ranged and won’t get might stacks.

furthermore if you are ranged you should really consider taking Unscathed Contender as the uptime of that increases.

Well, unscathed contender’s uptime differns from dungeon to dungeon. I AC for example i would only have about 40% uptime too. But i don’t take my guardian into AC anyway. Uptime on slave driver/searing effigy on the other hand would be close to 100% again. In any way, even 20% uptime only would make it, together with PotV (6-7 boons in a party) already stronger than elusive power with 100% uptime.

Please teach me how to get 100% uptime on Aegis for Slave Driver… He can’t stop facing me and keeps swinging his fire sword around. I tried sneaking around his butt but he keeps on turning towards me and hits me

The Guardian and Mesmer vigor traits are something that were on the table and will be on the table for change in the future. We don’t like those traits being that easily accessible. While they haven’t yet been changed as long as our thoughts don’t change internally they are part of the vigor rework we want to do.

I thought Vigor was needed for us as we are :
1. Melee
2. have 10k base HP

Compared to warriors who have 8k more hp than us, WE NEED TO DODGE MORE to compensate for the 8k hp difference.
