I will enjoy grouping for dungeons or grouping anytime when I feel like it, but I dislike to be forced to form a group in order to finish my Personal Story.

Not a slightest desire would I have to finish my Personal Story should it require a group.

I take the time and efforts to appreciate the artworks that anet’s designers have taken their time and efforts to produce. I think a functional screenshot is the minimum requirement anet team has to offer as a mutual respect to those who appreciate all the delicate details they introduced into this game.

It would be very regretful that as my footprint is widespreading across every little corner, i couldn’t take pictures properly and that the only I could do every time when I saw some awesome artworks, is swear. It would be even more so if I would have to repeat my map completion for 200% or 300% and still couldn’t take a good dame picture.

Particularly all those boss fights and group events. I lost all the chances to take the pictures in these memorable fierce fighting. I wouldn’t like to do them all over again. If I would, I wouldn’t have played gw2.

I couldn’t understand how much time it would require to be fixed?? The artists and designers spent so much time. Just like you tell us you have the most talented singers that have godgiven voices, but hey, sorry no CD available. Or hey, buy this ticket for a two-week eyes-opening journey to Turkey, and yes you are right, no picture taking allowed.

Today, one of the in-game screenshot froze for more than 10 seconds and I decided to use cmd-shift-3 to take screenshots…

Voila, I jumped down the cliff and died :P (Shift is my dodge key.) Funny Decisive moment captured though.

I found it quite laggy now.
In the beginning the fps did go up to 25 but soon it resumed to its usual value at around 16-18 fps.

Switching to Map and back both in slow motion mode. Screenshot even took me 10 seconds to complete….

Frankly I like the way it is now. I don’t feel any other weapon wanted for my engi.

The only thing I feel wanting is skins.

Since we basically will use (only) one weapon set, and since most of the time I am (or many of us are) using kits, my toon won’t look cosmetically as sexy as other classes. Kits skins are all the same. Yet we don’t have plenty of weapons.

If I can afford a legendary skin, I’d hope that could be one of my kits. After all this is what defines my class and my playing style. It won’t be the pistol. It won’t be the hammer or the crossbow either.

I feel cosmetically inferior to other classes, but other than that, I like how engi is now.

The best scenario is that engi don’t use weapons.

Hammer, could be part of our kits, never could be our weapon.

And we have “hammering” skill already in tool kit.

It’s just a name and skin issue.

It would be more favourable to simply give our kits more skins.

But, if someone is creative enough, I’d love to see something more engineery that “replaces” (not adds to) pistols and rifles. I hope that’d be kind of kits or tools, rather than “regular weapons”.

./. to hide GUI, take screenshot, and restore GUI.
A pity in-game screenshot doesn’t work in my Mac Beta Client.

I can use cmd-shift-3 to take the shots ceaselessly and smoothly, in jpg format, into designated folder though. But that’s a pain in the neck and couldn’t work in combat.

During cutscenes, I use in-game screenshot and it still freezes the screen for like 3 seconds, however, the whole film stops and continues from where it was after the screenshot was completed.

Under online mode, my client side is halted by in-game screenshot and the server side keeps going. Therefore, after the 3-4 second halt, my toon will appear in another place.

I don’t think this should be a difficult issue to tackle with but this really turns me away from playing Mac Beta Version.

Please let us know at least if there won’t be anyone who will see to this. At least we won’t keep expecting, which made me feel a bit frustrated with Mac Version.

I think it is possible. Today I was exploring in the northern tundra where there are polar bears and their foes. Their enemies do climb out from huge corrupted crystals. In the event an NPC walked into his room and locked himself out. I could see him walk in but I couldn’t follow in. Later on he closed the door. I still could see him.

So there are things like this where NPC and mobs can spawn not bothered by us and not bothering us, they can walk to their set point from a “closed” space. Likewise, for example the thief NPC in PvP, she respawned with a dark mist appearing first in the mid air, in just 3 seconds right after stomped. I think the animation is quite good.

Sometimes in the wide open area there is nothing for the mobs to walk out from, and apparently eagles shall not respawn from underneath the earth or sharks shall not respawn from the mountain (I am just exaggerating). That might be what put Anet to lazily draw the mob out in the thin air. There is room for improvement for sure, but to be fair, such concept is already adopted in the game.

I guess it is rather difficult to be “unnoticed” anyway. There are just too many “eyes”. Perhaps some “creativity” and animation will solve most visual problems.

I would agree on remove it from items and upgrades but leave it in foods or potions.
Or maybe do something a little different, that would work a little like karma (not the game kind karma but more like the actual indian religious karma).
For instance, something that everytime you help somebody or do a DE you get a 1% magic find, and everytime you pass on helping you lose some % too…in the end good things happen to those who do good things or something like that.

I kind of like this idea.

The more you helped other people, the more MF you should get or stack. This may include killing a SP that you already have, killing the champion guarding a vista you’ve already had. When you rezz someone in a rather less populated area, you got more MF. You don’t get MF by rezzing in a crowded group or in dynamic events where people keep dying.


People can get MF during the time they party with

(1) “one or two” new player (which means, one among those you never partied with before, or at least not within one week time),

(2) “one or two” lower level player, say 2/3 of your levels,

(3) “one or two” players in an area that the players haven’t done but you have already completed the Map, etc.

People will not get MF by forming a full party with those you party everyday.


People can win MF from wining a renown heart, completing a map, finishing a puzzle achievements, reaching their Daily achievement.

People can also win MF by 1-2-3 manning a champion, soloing a dynamic event with veteran boss(es), 1-2-3-4-manning a dungeon, etc, but they won’t get additional MF by tagging in the events that were already crowded with people.


People can buy MF with Karma. Or another MF salvage kit that transforms items into MF stacks. The rarer the items, the higher MF % stacks. Items include crafting stuffs, jewelries, gears and every loot. The upgraded component embedded in a weapon/armour counts as well. The salvaged items/gears disappeared totally without turning into any crafting materials.

Most of the time I was taking picture. It was a great fun taking pictures in dangerous place and in combat. There are some quiet places to enjoy landscape too. Even in a place densely populated with mobs, there are corners that won’t aggro mobs.

Running out from piles of mobs and catapults into Dungeon Arah is the same exciting from running into it. However, after you have succeeded once, you got an WP. It’s your choice whether you want to use WP to go in and out. Other people who never experienced the excitement to run in have all their rights to enjoy the process. I died multiple times. Multiple.

Like you said, sometimes I just didn’t want to do the killing to win renown hearts, and then I chose to run and gather things or do other interactive tasks, running with piles of mobs following after me. Some missions are tough some are repetitively boring while still some allow you to do it at your own pace without mobs bothering you. I think we can actually choose which mission to take.

It also happens very often that there is a champion or a couple of veterans that will respawn at the starting point of a puzzle or at the destination of a puzzle or just at any point in the middle; however, it also happens from time to time that there is hidden another route without the need to confront the champion. Otherwise, you can also shout for help. That is the fun part.

I think Anet does a good job to let us choose our playing style, like in Personal Story, We can always choose to act smart or act brave. It’s pretty much the same in PvE.

When the Dynamic Events take place, the mobs swarm in to the center of the event from the outskirts. They are already creating the immersion and animation. If there are another group innocently stay fixed near their respawn point so that we have to respawn them farther and farther, this will ruin the tempo of the attacking waves and ruin the fun of other people.

All that I asked, as LordAargadon and Nurvus said, is to add some animation or process so that their spawning won’t be “visually / graphically” abrupt to the eyes.

This is how I see it.

Sorry I don’t get your point, but that’s fine. We can think differently.

For me, I log in to see mobs, excitement, and surprise.
When I don’t want it, I log off. Or, I simply find a safe place.
I don’t want mobs to be kept away from me.

Even if we make them spawn at a distance, they have to come back to where they meant to respawn, which is, where I stand. If that’s also what you meant, I agree. I cannot understand why they cannot come close to you and attack you?

If one wants to “stay” fixed without moving around, the mob will be always in the queue. People gather because they want a bigger scale of encounter. Not vice versa.

The question in my eyes is how they show up, such as an animation to make them “fade in” to your neighbourhood without being visually weird or breaking the immersion. For me, I don’t see a need to change their respawn time table or spawn route due to player’s position. But that’s just me. I like how it is. I like how many times a few mobs or veterans just respawned right before I almost finished my jumping puzzle. To me, this is an achievement, and the reason for which I play this game.

Actually I just went exploring the glacier in the north, there is long gorge where the mobs respawn very rapidly. The moment I was going to kill the next mob, the mob I just killed alone respawned!!! Every time. That was a challenge and a lot of fun to advance in that one way gorge. I like that. I can’t imagine if the mob couldn’t respawn just because I was there, or that when I moved forward there was no mob at all just because there had been always traffic along this gorge.

The spawn rate is designed for a reason. Some areas are meant to be dangerous and are not meant for players to go afk.

I happen to think the opposite. The more players, the more mobs, and the more fun.
The more we intruded into the dens of the monsters, the more they will gather and respawn to fight us back. We are not supposed to stay safely in a densely populated dangerous area and the mobs have every right to knock me from behind down before I can react and I personally like this.

Suppose 20 players are doing the same renown heart, mobs won’t respawn, and you have to wait, this brings us back to the old camping issue. I hate queuing. Mobs queuing means players queuing.

Someone can stay somewhere so that you can never enjoy your game.

Agreed. Not only that, we lose the sense of direction when downed. Please allow us to tell north from south so that we can get prepared to run in the right direction when rezz’ed.

Yes. I’d prefer it “partially removed.”

Not necessary, if “contribution” is also factored in magic find rate.

Let’s say 5 persons do a dungeon run. One of them contributes less than 10% (half of the average). His “external” magic find rate shall be reset to 0.

Similarly, in terms of tagging mobs in group activities (percentages are just given as an example)
10%: got exp and loot
20%: got external MF in full effect

When one is soloing, Duo-ing, or 5-man partying, this rule is less likely to occur to him.

If one has better skills and better gears, he can make sure his contribution is on par with his teammates and he can make his MF effective. He deserves it.

Rune/Sigil Selection Questions for Engi

Hi, “finally” I am deciding (and eager) to change my MF gears into a more solid upgrade set. Please give me some insights.

I am thinking Runes and Sigils that both can chill enemies, but other possibilities seem great too. I don’t know how to test them. I tried a few of them but the combat log doesn’t show anything helpful.

Superior Runes
(1) Rune of Mercy: Reviving Allies
(2) Rune of Earth: Protection
(3) Rune of Greth: Chilling
(3) Rune of Engineer: 5% more bundle damage
(4) Rue of Undead: max condition dmg

Other than Chilling, the abilities to revive allies attract me the most. How good is it?

Magnetic Asura: Since I have the trait to trigger Elixir S when health goes down below 25%. Would this become redundant?

Which among Rune of Engineer and Rune of Undead gives more condition damage?

Superior Sigil

Sigil of Ice:
I like 2s chilling every 10 seconds but I can’t figure out whether I will need to have one (30%) or two(60%)?

Sigil of Blood / Sigil of Condition
If 60% of chilling is too much, I wonder which is better for off-hand? Life stealing or removing conditions?

(I tried one hand removing conditions another removing boons, and also other things, but I couldn’t tell how often they proc…)

Although I mostly solo in PvE, I prefer a supporting role whenever possible.

My current stats (partial MF build) are roughly
- power 1300
- precision 1600
- toughness 1200
- vitality 1200

I used mostly dual pistols with Elixir Gun, Bombs, plus Elixir R (or Rocket Shoes, Slick Shoes, Net Turret, Grenades, or Toolkit). I am learning to use P/S now.

Would appreciate any advices and comments.

i’d love it if the cities were all full of interesting non-combat events and secret areas to find. lion’s arch has 3 jumping puzzles and a ton of unused area, but the other 5 cities have almost nothing to them.

Yes, probably periodical “Discounts” and “Promotions” etc.

- Less fees/taxes or discounts in Trading post.
- Less fees for outward WP than other maps
- half repair cost, once per day (for those completed 100% city map)
- Crafting exp bonus, Special discounts for crafting materials
- Queuing priority for city portals. (Not attractive now)
- Free (Discounted) temporary tribal / cultural customs to go with their tribal events

I every mmo I’ve played, always the “city with the portals” gets all the players…
If ANet would want to make other cities more attractive then my suggestion would be: spread the portals, just give each 2, connecting them only with other 2 cities.

I think people will complain if there is no one single city that has all the portals. However, other cities shall form a portal network too without the need to go via the hub in Lion Arch.

I would love to see each city have a mini-dungeon, Age of Conan had repeatable solo dungeons in the noble district which was fun. Something similar to that, like a dungeon x jumping puzzle x veteran mobs x traps, located in each capital city with it’s cultural theme that can scale from 1-10 players like a dynamic event would.

Perhaps each city shall have a lvl 80 dungeon, an instanced dungeon that uses the entire map of that city.

This can be designed as

(1) Military Maneuvers: Each city wants to prove their defense construction and man power against invasion. 5 players can form a team to help them test their strength. Perhaps there can be a couple of “story modes” too.

(2) an Inter-tribal Tournaments: Each cities wants to boast their glory. The one who wins over the 5 cities will be given a heroic title.

(3) Back to the History of that city: The players participates in the war that took place in the past so that the cities survived and remained intact till now.

Rewards can be exotic tribal gears. Bound on Acquire.

I agree with the fact it is odd that enemies just pop out of nowhere, as for the no spawn radius, thats a bad idea. I would like better if they had a nearby spawn point and ran to there set area. as an example, Say you be slaying some flame legion like a boss, 3 minutes later, more pop out of a bush or drop down from over a cliff, thats my best idea.

It’d would be nice if they climb out from behind a gate, a statue, a “closed” cave, or that they jump down from above a tree, a cliff, or that they are “summoned” or “conjured” from a stir of dirts or mist, a splash of fire or water, etc… from a place that’s less likely to give us the impression something pops just out of nowhere in the thin air. (It doesn’t matter if people are occupying their “spawn” points or not.)

Then, they walk, patrol, run to their set area as you said. (Perhaps they can be shown half invisible and invulnerable during the process.)

Anyone annoyed with Fumigate and Magnet skill?

But if Fumigate etc can be cancelled, it is wasted too.

I kinda like how it works, which prevents me from incidentally canceling such skills in action. This might be just my case, but I always hit the keys more than required , I can’t wait patiently and can’t time well to follow up with the second skill right after the first skill finishes, and I hope the major dmg dealing skill can’t be canceled.

Thank you all, Mysticforce, Nabarue, and Thenoob…

I tried and found out that I am not good at shield/blocking, slick shoes/spray oil, pistol/glue shot in PvE. I just couldn’t make them work effectively or I must have expected too much… However, dual pistol #4 the 2000 burning condition dmg of the blowtorch is just too sweet to give up… It ended up most of the time I am switching between Dual Pistol, Elixir Gun and Bomb (or Grenade or Net Turret).

I play PvE but I should perhaps really give it a try. Thank you for enlightening me.

For sure the method straightforward is to make a chair, box, bench, rock, etc a special object which is able to be seated in. That’d be more likely kind of “Interact” key. This has something to do with the dimensions and shape of different objects I guess. And the player needs to sit right on the edge of the object so that their hips are inside the chair whereas their feet are hanging outside.

Another sit-around is to offer different “sitting” emotes that show different sitting postures, so that we could choose the one best suits the object we want to sit on/in.

My cursor is usually lost among the splendid fireworks too particularly when I use 27" monitor. Since the cursor is not required to be so accurate for a big screen, I wonder it can be designed with a bigger circle.

Or, perhaps we can have a short cut key to re-position the cursor right in front of , to the left/right/back of the char at a fixed distance, for example ctrl-up, ctrl-left, ctrl-right, ctrl-down?

Currently we have: Sit, Kneel and Sleep.

Kick:

I’d like to take pictures of flying kick, butterfly kick, hook kick, etc. It would be nice if the “Kick” is made into another “Dance” which performs a series of diversified kicks.


Punch:

Likewise, Punch performs a continuous series of hand punching practices as in boxing, karate, or wing chun. Otherwise, “Boxing” / “Karate” / “WingChun”


March/Jump/Dodge/Roll

Static, which won’t result in movement. For picture taking purpose.


More Emotions

Threaten / Hesitate / Guilty / Militant
Glamour / Sentiment /

Can be very helpful to picture taking too.


Sit / Seat / Squat / Meditate:

I hope we can sit properly on bench, chair, etc. Proposed in another thread. I think it is easier to just have another emote “Seat”. Sitting on rocks or woods etc can be another emote such as “Squat”. Some professions or agitated people may need to “Meditate”, sitting with their legs crossed over each other.


Racial Posture/Gesture:

Different races might have their cultural posture,
For example: “Root” or “Blossom” or “Seeding” :P for Sylvarian.
“Roar” is different from race to race.


Current Gestures : Longer Duration or Repetition

Can we make them last a bit longer or repeat a few times? Or can we “/wave *5”?
It’s difficult to switch on the message panel, type “/wave” or “/point”, switch UI off, and take pictures in time.

I wonder if it is in the right direction for Anet to reward 3-man dungeon, for example.

When we 5-man a Champion in PvE, we found it challenging and fun. When we kitten a champion with 30 players, I don’t find it as fun. No coordination, no teamwork, nothing is actually required.

For the need to go beyond 5 men, I think WvWvW is the place to go.

I run Tool Kit (seriously, throw wrench is GOOD, and Gear Shield is great in a pinch), and the Grenade Kit, while toting a rifle. I use my kits for about 80% of my fights.

Would you care to elaborate a little bit more how Tool Kit works? I tried a little bit in PvP mode and decided I would never touch it… I have like 130 or 140 unspent skill points…

Anyone else use kits as main weapon? Loving the elixir gun.

Even if we may lose a great deal of stats, stacking all those boons, conditions and extra dmg are much more valuable than waiting for all the four skills unavailable in their down time. For those who have quick fingers, they probably can stack more conditions by switching to one kit after another and back to their weapons.

Yup, probably the higher we level up or the more we explore the map, we shall get more kit skins available.

For example, at lvl 60 you can “upgrade” (the appearance of) one of your kits, either flamethrower, exlixir gun, or turret, etc. at lvl 80 you can upgrade another skin.

For example, every time you win 5 puzzle achievements, you are given an offer. Or, for every dungeon you complete the 4 modes, you are given a skin, which might include some animation effects.

Some race-oriented cultural skins would be a nice idea. All-weather, extreme-weather, light compact gears for all terrains, one that is equipped with searchlight or aim-point laser, etc can be another.

Anyway, no stats involved, shouldn’t be much grinding involved either. But this will encourage engineers to explore more the map or other missions, to use more those kits, and to develop their own “style”.

A few more alternatives, perhaps:

(1) (If in a combat, automatically switched to) a Wide-Angle/ Fish-Eye lens in a cramped space?

(2) (If in a combat, automatically switched to) a bird-eye’s view which shows only the surrounding visible to the player?

Please do not spend time designing any RAIDS content. Most people or at least I believe the majority of people are here because there is NO RAID.

Please use such time for more diversities, more artworks, more creative, interactive, environmental contents.

Besides, I actually think fighting with more than 5 players in this game, is NO FUN. I don’t actually feel I have any function in a farming group of like 15-30 players. It’s a waste of my life in such a team. Please do not add any content that requires more than 5 players to complete.

I am using elixir gun with duel pistols like Ronin too. Elixir is a bit weak in damage output though but it provides very good supporting functions.

I play only PvE for the moment and found that I actually change my skill set a lot. Like now, I am running duel pistols, with elixir gun plus bombs, supported by a net turret.

Durzlla, Yes, ultimately that’d be awesome. But I am afraid it might mean many many skins and turns out too challenging for Anet to proceed with. But at least a couple of skins would suffice.

There are issues for the following two situations:

(1) standing in front of a beautiful scene but couldn’t take a nice framed picture because there is a wall right against my back which totally disabled my camera

(2) stuck in a tight chamber / passage or among trees and flowers so that I can’t see anything helpful for in-game movement, even sometimes there is a tiny window on purpose allowing me to peep out but the head of my toon is just stuck right in the middle.

There are probably two solutions:

(1) First Person View: as it is already requested in another thread, I will omit the discussion here. There might exist an issue in the first person view when I look down. I wonder whether or how to display my feet…

(2) Free Camera View, which means, the environmental obstacles do not actually block the positioning of the camera. The camera can move freely, it can see through the wall, but it doesn’t display anything I cannot see from where I am. Those I cannot see will be blacked out or painted with misty water colour. This feature doesn’t need to be supported real time. It can be turned off automatically by the system once my char changes position. The purpose is simply to (a) take nice pictures and (b) figure out the surrounding.

There are a few “technical” issues we may think of right away. I have thought of a few countermeasures as well, but I guess it is too trivial for the moment. So, bear with me for just throwing a stone in the garden. Perhaps we will have better solutions and can skip my poor suggestion.

I desire first person view too. I only need that for picture taking, not necessarily in game combat.

I also would like to have a functioning camera when I am tightly wrapped by the surroundings. We can actually let the camera go beyond the wall or obstacles, and let the camera shows only what is visible to the toon (say, inside the surrounding walls) and back out what is invisible to the toon (say, outside the walls)

I like the race-oriented idea but then the problem stays the same as my racial “wooden” kits would never change skins… But this is a good start, for example, wooden kits, metallic kits, leather kits, and the look can depend upon inner back, weapon style, or whatsoever, just so that we can have a choice.

Btw, thank you for telling me about the guild emblem. What a pity… I am not in any guild…
