Firstly (this bit might be a long rant, so tl:dr) would just like to agree, that it is quite commonly known these key sites do end up with lots of fraudulent keys purchased using stolen credit card details, keys like that when found often are revoked. Just because lots of people buy from these sites and find no issue, doesn’t mean the problem isn’t there.
Funnily enough I once got gifted a key for something like Farcry 3 or 4 as a present, then found it actually was removed from my Uplay library months later as it turns out it was from a batch of keys sold on the site that had been obtained by a stolen credit card. Oddly in this case Ubisoft decided to honour those who had ended up with such keys and reinstated the game, but this leads to another reason why I won’t use key sites, and that is the developers always end up losing out! I know the savings can be attractive, especially when money is tight, I’m often in that situation, but devs work hard to create games that we enjoy playing, and if they keep losing out via key sites it can really hurt the industry (even more of an issue for indies and small teams).
as far as i understand, aeschines is upset about not getting “pre-order bonuses” by buying PoF from cdkeys.com.
there’s only one problem:
you don’t get pre-ORDER-boni – only pre-PURCHASE-boni.
after reading ANet’s statement from HoT release about third-party sellers (link posted earlier) there’s a significant difference between pre-PURCHASE and pre-ORDER.The only way to officially Pre-Purchase right now is through the official GW2 website, or in-game. This does not cover Pre-Ordering, which may exist on a number of reputable resellers. Pre-Purchase and Pre-Order are different.
Since english is not my first-language and I’m afraid you won’t understand it if i try to explain the difference, you’ll have to figure it out yourselves.
Since cdkey.com seems to advertise their product of PoF as “pre-order”, technically you can’t expect to get any boni.
As the original complaint was really about not getting the pre-order items, this is quite right in terms of you shouldn’t expect pre-order bonuses via a third party seller. Though I don’t like to defend key sites, as I mentioned in an earlier post, if you read the descriptions of the two editions of PoF on cdkeys, neither of them mention anything about pre-order bonuses, or even remotely imply that you will get/be entitled to them.
So in that respect it is actually fairly clear from the start that they are not providing them. The OPs message they got of ““This product is a Pre-Order, it will be available here on or slightly before the release date of 22nd September 2017.”” shouldn’t have been a surprise to receive as under the product information tab on both editions on cdkeys it already says “* Pre-Orders will be delivered on or before the release date listed above (22nd Sept)”, so really the original complaint/concern about the pre order bonuses could have just been avoided by reading the description/info on the site before ordering.

Liked;
+Addition of bounty board, hope it has lots of bounties & randomizes locations to keep it interesting.
+The smoothness of mounting and unmounting, really looked & felt fluid. Especially jumping into combat with it.
+The fact you’ve made it so interacting with NPCs will dismount you, so we avoid screen clutter around NPCs and possible mount trolling.
Didn’t like;
-The mount felt clunky and sluggish, as did the jumping mechanic of it.
-The map felt like it had lots of empty space that had been stretched out even more
just to justify mounts. It didn’t feel like there was enough interesting things in the map to see.
-The flatness of the map (I know it’s a desert, but still), it was soooo boring to navigate, don’t like the lack of layers or verticality personally.
-The first story instance/mission felt quite dull in terms of the objectives, the enemies in it also felt like they’d been made a lot easier than LS3 & HoT.
-Unidentified gear, I wouldn’t mind this system if it came in rarities, so we have rare unidentified gear, exotic unidentified gear & common etc. But if there is only green unidentified gear, which can contain exotics & rares, then that’s just awful!
Overall was quite disappointed by the demo, had already pre-ordered PoF so will be getting it, but unless the rest of maps & content are significantly more interesting I doubt I’ll return to the content once I’ve completed the story & map completion.
I always buy it direct through Anet to be safe, but deff always beat to stick to official providers if possible (I assume there’s a list somewhere on these forums)
To be fair though I’ve just looked at the listings on CD Keys and neither edition claims that it includes any of the pre order bonuses anyway.
It actually works out well for me, as I always do the story missions on my main, and always do the hearts for map completion anyway, so if the hearts is what progresses the story that’s fine as I can get both done at once.
Though I have to admit the demo story mission was boring as kitten, but still saved me doing the heart separately for map completion.
You said you used the Level 80 Boost you got from purchasing PoF. Have you done any of the personal story, or did you just start mapping?
The first step of the human story has you entering your home instance, and home instance modes will not show up as part of that.
Ah! Think you’ve got it, must be this! I didn’t do any of the story, just started to get the maps done, so when I went into the DR instance there must have been a story active there too. That explains it then!
They should be in all your home instances, they are in all my home instances, regardless of which character I use.
Oh, so if I take a human into any home instance in any city they will appear there too? I guess I just never noticed as I probably haven’t gone to any non human home instances on my main since I’ve had the unlocks.
Maybe it has to do with level. Maybe at or below a certain level you don’t have harvesting unlocked so the home instance nodes don’t show. What level was your alt in DR and what level in BC.
It was lvl80 in both, as I’d used the PoF boost on it.
Your account unlocks like the nodes, wintersday tree and so on appear in all 5 home instances, they’re account wide.
You can only harvest them once a day per account so that may be why you didn’t see them when you took your human alt into your home instance?
When I took the alt to DR it was the first time I’d logged on that day, so hadn’t used main at all (in fact it’s rare that I actually harvest in my home instance anyway, as I normally can’t be bothered lol) and it was my first time in DR with the alt as I only went in to do the map completion with it. So deff hadn’t already harvested. Also still confused why they would then appear in BC instead :/
So on my main which is a human, I have added various things to my home instance, the Wintersday tree, a bandit chest, and various HoT map chests, and all is fine, they appear as they should in my home instance in DR.
But recently I created an alt (also human), and when doing map completion in DR with it, noticed that none of the stuff was there, so I just assumed they would need to be unlocked again on the alt.
But today I took my alt to the Black Citadel to get map completion done, and noticed that when getting the POIs in the Charr home instance, Hero’s Canton, all my home instance stuff was there! Exactly the same unlocks that my main has in the DR home instance. I wasn’t in a party or anyone else’s instance, I just entered the instance solo to get the POIs.
Is this some sort of bug? I don’t, and never have created any Charr characters, so would never have had a home instance with things for one of those. I’ve just checked my Norn which I haven’t played for years, and it looks like his home instance in Holbrek has my unlocks & is correct, so I guess they should appear on alts. So I’m even more confused now why my human alts stuff is in Black Citadel and not DR.
This is a simple change (coding wise).
Stuff like this always makes me laugh, please don’t assume stuff like that when you don’t know how GW2’s code or the project is structured. If you know anything about coding then you’ll know nothing should be assumed to be simple as it depends on how the individual project is structured as to weather something is simple to add, or weather it will be more complex and time consuming due to other scripts that might link into it, and of course additional time for testing.
I quite like that idea, would be a nice touch!
To me, it felt like a way to justify the mounts, I still believe they were not needed. So instead of not doing mounts, we are given something weak, empty and pointlessly large just to make mounts work and no other reason whatsoever
My sentiments exactly, I know we didn’t get to try a full map, or one with a meta, but the whole place felt like a large boring empty space stretched out to give space / distance to justify mounts. I’d much rather have had smaller/regular sized maps which are actually interesting, full of content, interesting things to see etc, not bigger maps that have nothing in them so there’s space to run on a mount.
I thought I would be playing the demo all weekend, but I got bored after a few hours yesterday, so haven’t been back on it today, and won’t tomorrow either. Likewise oddly my friend list and guild members don’t seem to have been on it today either (while I was online).
I’d already preordered it, so will buy and complete at least the story. But I found nothing interesting for me in the demo, the instance & map part were both boring. The rest of PoF maps / content will have to improve significantly if I’m going to spend any time there after completing the story.
Just want to say this was an amazing event! Sadly the games just kicked me with a network error halfway through the final song and I can’t get back on!
Thanks though for a really cool evening!
Linear Mastery instead of Mastery Trees ?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: killermanjaro.5670
I don’t know any information or what Anets reasons were, but the only thing I could think of is that generally the main purpose of having skill trees is to make players decide on a specific route, by having only enough points to max 1 line, and possibly the first stage or two of others. If it had been done like that then, using your gliding tree for example, it would typically mean enough points for players to max to ley gliding or advanced gliding, but not both. Of course enough points to max all lines could still be added with a tree, but ultimately it’s then not massively different to the liner lines anyway.
I get what you mean about it would just let players to choose the order of which they unlock first, but I think ultimately the order they put most of the masteries in makes sense anyway, in that the later ones are generally only needed as you progress through the HoT maps in order, or in many cases not really very useful ones anyway, with the real essential ones being the first mastery or two of each track.
So I imagine it was probably just to simplify it for players, and to prevent players accidently choosing a not so useful line which then might mean it takes longer for them to get something useful. For example, again using the gliding route as an example, if a player ended up training and spending points on lean techniques rather than updrafts, they would quickly realise updrafts would have been more useful and would then probably end up complaining on here that they had spent points on something and they’d now have to spend longer unlocking the other one because the game didn’t hold their hand and prioritize the order.
As I said though, I have no idea what Anets reasons were, that’s just me guessing.
What story bit are we talking about? The PoF demo? I created a staff ele, didn’t even use Tempest overloads or my usual utilities as I just ran straight in, and it a was cake walk! Didn’t at any stage feel like 1 vs 20, if anything the enemies felt like they went down quicker than HoT mobs and some LS3 map mobs. Even as a generally squishy ele in the provided exotics I didn’t come anywhere close to being downed, or feel remotely in trouble at any stage. You’d have to just be standing there in one spot, not moving or dodging to stand a chance of being downed.
Personally it felt like they had made the story instance a fair bit easier than HoT & LS3 story episodes.
I’d agree and say that overall I’m quite disappointed with it, I’ll still buy & play it though. But for me the map is sooo boring, and I agree the flatness sucks. But as someone else mentioned, in a way it’s not surprising given that lots of people have complained on these forums about verticality, I still have no idea what’s so difficult about navigating a vertical axis. But that’s the way it goes, I’m sure lots are happy at the flatness.
Hopefully though the other maps in the expansion will be better, I know there’s only so much you can do with a desert, but being a fantasy world, there must be a way to make the maps more interesting and less bland than this first one. My fear though is that maps have just been needlessly stretched out purely to make them bigger to accommodate mounts. (of which the raptor I felt was clunky and not that great, aside from the mount/unmounts)
As it stands the preview hasn’t interested me, and if the rest of PoF isn’t more interesting then I don’t imagine I’ll be spending any time in it after I’ve completed it.
Now it’s too soon to really tell much, and whatever happens I’ve still pre-ordered it and brought it anyway.
But so far I’m quite underwhelmed, I was looking forward to the preview, imagining I would be hooked on it all weekend. But after a few hours I’m done with it, and I’ll just wait till it launches.
For me the best thing, is actually the bounty board. I know we had the bandit bounties, but I’ve been wanting a proper bounty board for a while. Just something fun to send you around places to kill things, I hope they add one for bounties in the core maps. And I hope there are lots of bounties for lots of different champs.
Other than that nothing exciting for me, the race was ok, but doubt I’ll do one more than a couple of times. The mount was a mixed bag, I like the smooth mount/unmounting process, but the actual mount felt awkward and clunky. And the map felt boring, flat and like it’s had big open spaces added just to make it big for mounts.
As I said, too soon to tell anything, but so far my impression is that I’ll play & complete PoF, then never go back to it. Hopefully in the full release the maps are more interesting.
I like that you dismount when talking to a vendor or npc as it helps prevent a swamp of screen clutter in the form of stacks of mounts.
The map does seem quite big to me, but in my opinion it matches the concern I had, that these maps are just big to accommodate mounts. I know it’s a desert and all, but it just feels like a big open map of nothing, I know it’s personal preference, but to me the map just seems really boring and not interesting. It just feels like the empty spaces have been stretched out make more area/distance to justify using a mount.
Working fine for me too.
The other thing worth mentioning on DS, is I’ve occasionally gone in late/joined a squad but found the squads map is full, and often there have been around 25ish people around the WP with me who presumably weren’t able to get into map as well, and on those occasions it seems often none of them will be prepared to tag up and try to get a map going, so in that respect sometimes players seem to write it off as an empty map without even trying to make it work.
On those occasions if I chuck my tag up & get a group listed, then a lot the time others will tag up too, and the map can be saved as the 2 hour time window is pretty generous for getting it done, so even if 20+mins has passed it’s still possible to succeed. It’s just for some reason lots of people never want to be the first to get things started.
People saying No, it’s always full…well obviously it’s not…
No one is saying that every instance of DS runs full, there are empty instances if you join at a random time. What we are simply explaining to the OP is that his/her claim of “Here’s the problem the Meta isn’t being done at all…”, with the implication that no-one in/is doing DS, is simply incorrect. As there are people always doing the meta at pretty much every run throughout the day, it just requires looking in the LFG 15mins or so before, so he/she can join one of those maps. (Again at least on EU, I don’t know what NA & Oceania are like).
I’d like the option of dogs, specifically shibas, I would pay lots of gold or gems if I could fill my home instance with shibas! (I’d also actually end up going to my home instance)
So that just leaves test golems I guess, which I imagine being a nightmare to see anything as every pve player who doesn’t do PvP/WvW will be there. Plus you won’t learn how the specs play in actual combat against mobs etc
I disagree. The test golem servers its purpose. It’s there so you can simulate certain scenario’s in terms of endgame content. Like enhance your rotation to push out that minor extra damage. or compare certain build etc etc. If that does not help you, then you can always hit the fractal. There is a similar test function there where you can set the golem in “engage” mode. That should help you out
Ah ok didn’t realise there was an engage mode on them. Still though I’m guessing with how packed it’ll be it might be hard to do much.
But ultimately I should probably just be happy that there’s any form of open beta / preview we can try anyway XD
On EU DS is still run at most times of the day, make sure you use a timer site and LFG to find a group and get a map, start looking ~15-30mins before the meta is due to start and you should have no trouble finding a squad. If you are just turning up at random times, or joining a map without a squad then chances are you will land in a mostly empty map.
If you do end up in an empty map and there’s still a reasonable amount of time left it is occasionally still possible to salvage it if you can quickly tag up and persuade others to as well, once you’ve got a few tags up all with the groups listed you might still be able to get enough numbers to do it.
edit – btw for a lot of masteries / achieves a large amount can be gotten on a dead map, it’s only the towers & final area that are locked by the meta. For exploring lots of the enemy patrols can be easily avoided.

I hope you can join us for the Preview Weekend. I can’t wait for you to see the Crystal Desert and have a look at some of the starter content!
Will we be able to preview the elite specs in anyway during this be it in heart of the mists or the starter map?
Check out this blog post, where you’ll see that players can experience and experiment with the new elite specializations in a second weekend event on August 18-22.
In other words, we won’t be able to preview the new elite specs in pve environment at all?
Far as I understand it, which personally I find quite disappointing & annoying as pve is 95% of what I play, so I would have quite liked to be able to test them there. I don’t do PvP, and have only just started to try WvW, where it’s going to be hard to try them out as you’re either in a zerg, or dying because roaming solo just means dying (for someone inexperienced in the mode like I am)
So that just leaves test golems I guess, which I imagine being a nightmare to see anything as every pve player who doesn’t do PvP/WvW will be there. Plus you won’t learn how the specs play in actual combat against mobs etc
Been a while since I’ve been to LA, but don’t remember this lovely looking airship being parked up there before. I assume this will be our ride to PoF then.
I’m looking forward to weaver, as my main is currently an ele/tempest, so being able to use a sword and have dual attunements should be quite fun. Also I imagine it will force me (in a good way) to freshen up my build & combat style a bit, as at the moment I use staff, so now I’ll be going a bit more close quarters than I normally do.
I haven’t decided what I’m going to use my lvl80 boost on yet though, I quite like the look of Holosmith and Deadeye, so would be tempted to get an alt to one of those,.
I understand where you’re coming from, with players being split over more maps, but I wouldn’t worry too much. Personally I’ve never not seen a a Silverwastes listed in the LFG (on EU), I play at all kinds of different hours/times of day and there’s always maps on there, often permanent RIBA ones too. Granted Dry Top not as many, but still normally I see one or two listed during off peak times.
With HoT maps I’m sure we’ll still see the same, there are always going to be a lot of players going back to them either because like me they still enjoy the maps and metas, or because they are still going at map completion, HPs, rewards or achieves etc. Don’t forget even some people who have had HoT for ages will still have lots to do there, as there are a lot who may not have had time, or just play at a different pace. Plus I would assume there will be a lot of new HoT players who will arrive having purchased the expansion bundle. So I think the numbers will still be good across HoT for a long while yet.
In addition I’m sure Anet will have already got these things in mind, and will no doubt scale things if they see numbers dropping in maps etc
I’ll mostly be looking forward to map exploration, and playing weaver spec. Though as it seems every class/spec has just been nerfed I’d imagine everyone is looking forward to all the new elite specs now.
This might seem a stupid question, but I’ve been away for a few days, what’s a “Catmander tag”? Is this just some new icon for a comm tag? Please don’t tell me my map is going to be full of some sort of cat icons now, it already looks horrid enough where there’s 10+ apples tagged up in one map.
Thanks all for all the helpful info, pointers and advice
There’s a lot of really great stuff there for me to go on, will deff be playing this mode a lot more
Hi all,
So after years of ignoring WvW aside from the odd attempt at it, I decided to work on a legendary which has of course led me into more WvW for the Gift of Battle.
After about 6 hours of it, I have to say I’m actually quite enjoying it! (mostly) I can see myself continuing with it after I get the Gift of Battle, so would like to try and get into it a bit more.
I’ve read a few of the threads on here, and after following comms/zergs around for a bit I’m starting to get a bit more of an idea of what I should know about WvW, but does anyone have any links to any good current/up to date guides/vids on WvW? A lot of what I find tends to be quite old, and I’m sure with updates and changes, probably not very relevant anymore.
My other question is should I avoid this mode if there isn’t a comm/squad around? As quite a few times the maps I’ve been in have seemed really empty, with no comm or group around. And those are the times I’ve not really known what I’m meant to be doing/got bored, as aside from being able to take out some sentries or capture a ruin, there doesn’t appear to be much else to do when the map seems empty.
What penelopehannibal said is good stuff.
For general exploration I always find it easiest to go around the edges of the map first, so I know the size of the area I’m working with, and have the perimeter setup so I know then that everything else will be in the middle somewhere. (with a few exceptions that might be on the edge of the map accessed via a port in the middle etc).
Also for Tyria maps remember that although the mini map is just one level, the maps are still technically multi-layered, so there’s quite a few POI which are accessed from underwater tunnels or caves.
If all else fails, cross checking your map against a full one on wiki etc helps, and asking in map chat can be helpful, as some maps have ones which people might commonly miss, so people in the map might automatically have an idea of which ones you’re missing.
If you’re on an EU server then feel free to drop me a message anytime I’m on if you want some help finding any missing places.
This is such an interesting question! I believe you’re truly rich when you are just enjoying the game in whatever way you want to play it.
Pretty much this for me, I don’t have any legendary weapons or legendary armour, my bags aren’t overflowing with gold, and I haven’t even got 1 stack of most high end crafting mats like mystic coins etc. I’m geared in ascended stuff, I’ve got some weapon skins I like, and that’s fine with me. I always enjoy myself when I’m playing the game, and I’d rather always be doing whatever I find fun rather than grinding the same thing over and over just because it’s the most efficient way to farm gold to be rich.
That said I would like to work towards a legendary sword for weaver spec, never been interested in legendaries before as I use staff, and I don’t really like the look of either legendary staff. But the swords look really cool!
Defining “rich” by account value, gold, mats etc, is difficult because it could be achieved by just being rich irl & spending loads of money on tonnes of gems to convert to gold.
The way it worked last time was that your account was in effect cloned and the clone could do whatever it wanted in the new area.
This had no impact on your “true” account and was removed after the betas where done. This is how it very likely will be again this time.
People used the copy for:
- testing stuff and builds without risking/spending their assets ingame
- throwing stuff into the mystic forge
- trying out new classes
- kicking themselves in the head for getting that longwaited precursor drop on their clone character instead of their regular accountBasically the clone characters and economy is completely seperate from live accounts. Everything that happens on there gets wiped. You won’t have access to the TP etc.
All rewards gained from interacting with clone characters like killing them in wvw though remains available and valid as long as it was created using the live account.
I imagine all my time during the beta weekend will be spent doing as you mention, testing stuff out, getting a feel for things etc. But does that mean if I do things in the vanilla maps or HoT during the beta weekend then any rewards from events there would get wiped too? I don’t imagine I will, but just curious anyway. Or during the beta will we just not have access to normal GW2/HoT and only have access to the beta content anyway?
Personally for any MMO I would always expect to play it whilst using external resources like wiki, YouTube etc, to further my knowledge of it. Just the nature of MMOs, the fact content/mechanics etc are always changing, and the depth of content involved, it wouldn’t be practical to keep updating tutorials/guides for things in game.
But a lot of what you mention is addressed already anyway. Things like finding hearts or not knowing where to go, npc scouts show you large areas of the map, the hearts, and tell you about what those hearts are likely to involve. And following personal story also guides you if you want a structure as it will take you across maps/to new ones. Though I’m not sure you have against an open just explore approach, as a big part of MMOs/RPGs are generally about having an open world to be free to explore.
For ascended equipment crafting, aside from some mats being time gated (which they tell you they are), it’s no different from normal crafting. Buy a recipe, check it in the crafting menu/station, it says what it needs, then you craft it. And why would time gated mats be listed on daily achievements? They aren’t achievements.
It sounds a bit like you don’t really check npcs & vendors much from the last part as well, you’re saying for years you didn’t know ascended amulets were available at laurel merchants, did you not once in years of playing ever speak to a laurel merchant to see what they sold?
I’ll agree a lot of things can be learnt/explained more in depth via external sources (or asking other other players in map chat etc), which is the way for all MMOs anyway, but most of what you mention is covered by just talking to npcs you encounter.

If a vendor offered non-essential loot then I can’t see the problem in being able to trade excess HoT mastery points for something. As long as the items offered were non-essential, and there were no items that gave an advantage or were exclusive to that vendor then it wouldn’t make a difference to anyone. (items like a rare, or bag of crafting materials, bag of HoT map currency etc). Wouldn’t put any pressure on people to go for all masteries, would just be a minor extra for if you have an excess of them.
The only thing I would have against the idea, is that I can’t see it being worth the time/effort to add into the game, even if it’s something that might not take long to implement. Afterall once you’ve spent your excess points, which would probably be done in one go, then that vendor would be redundant and pointless to have in the game. So it doesn’t seem worth it just to give the option for some people to gain a bit of extra loot, the equivalent of which could probably be gained by half hour of gameplay anyway.
Also as mentioned you already get some extra AP for getting extra masteries as a reward.
I’m quite surprised that there isn’t one already, it would have been nice to have one ready at the time of the announcement so we’d have somewhere dedicated to discuss PoF stuff. I imagine there will deffinelty be one at some point, I guess it’s just a case of when.
I have done this before, only a few weeks ago I accidently crafted a stack of dowels instead of planks because I wasn’t paying attention to what I was doing. I don’t think there should be any change/anything needed to be done though, as it’s a fully avoidable mistake, it just means paying attention to what you’re crafting (unlike what I did that day I crafted stack lol).
Just sell them on the tp with listed price like Justine said. Then just pay attention and double check next time you go to craft some.
Why not Bolt and The Shining Blade. Don’t think small, be the bunny that rolls the taco!
Wow! Your character with both of those swords is amazing!
Agree fully with no mount zones / no mounts in cities, as this is my biggest concern with them, screen clutter. I think deff all cities should be no mount zones, and I’d agree that villages/towns/outposts in PvE maps should be no mount zones too. Personally I’d actually have a small no mount zone radius around any merchant/bank/tp/crafting station etc too.
I can imagine if there aren’t any no mount zones it’s going to just be a stack of giant brightly dyed mounts wherever you look, and it’ll be worse when anet inevitably add ott mount skins to the gemstone, we’ll end up with hundreds of luminous mounts with glowing wings everywhere no doubt.
All nice picks! I wish I had the resources to go for Bolt or The Shining Blade, sadly I’m quite a way off of those. That Elemental Sword looks great! Hopefully it comes back around so I can get a chance to get that!
In the new expansion please give the option to hide mounts. Also give the option for us to do the story and get to places without using them. This is a win win people that want their mounts get them and the ones that dont won’t have to.
I was extremely excited the the expansion until I learned about the mounts. If this problem would be fixed I would be all abored the hype train again. I’m pretty sure a lot of the people that are unhappy with the mounts probably feel the same way.
Although I am part of the group who isn’t looking forward to mounts and would rather they hadn’t been added to the game, it is just something we have to bite the bullet on and accept I’m afraid. Hiding mounts would neither be practicle (as others have mention you’d just see players floating above the ground which would look silly). And given the work that they’ve put into mounts, they will have designed the story and maps to utilise them, so it wouldn’t make sense for them to design or redesign the new content to be played without them just to please what appear to be the minority of us.
It’s just one of those things, everyone will have something in the game they don’t like, it’ll never be possible to please everyone so they have to please the majority, which is what they’ve done.
I am though hoping they do have mounts disabled in towns and around merchants, and crafting stations etc, as 20+ people on mounts grouped around a merchant is just going to look stupid!
Really looking forward to being able to use a sword with ele/weaver, as I’m sure many others are too! So the big decision to make, which sword/sword skin do you think you’ll end up using to fit your weaver? I’m going to start looking at ideas and making a shortlist of ones to buy!
I am really not looking forward to having mounts, I’m just not sold on them and don’t feel the need for them in GW2, and certainly not the need to have them useable in the core maps. (though I get the logic, show them off so hopefully f2p players buy the exp).
Personally I didn’t really like the look of any of them in the video either, the dragonish looking one was ok (skimmer?), but the rest to me look ridiculous. And I am a bit concerned that these “largest ever” maps are going to be made of mostly empty space & have less interesting detail/things to look at, as they were just made big purely to accommodate mounts.
The other thing I hate, which again is personal preference, is how cluttered & horrid my screen will look in cities (if they are useable there), and at groups waiting for an event/wb. With all the stupid tonics that turn people into giant flying elementals, animals etc, and the insane amount of glowing wings & particles everywhere the place already looks like a circus crashed into a nightclub. Now we’ll have a stupid amount of giant mounts kicking around too. (which btw will that not effect performance/fps from all the extra models/meshes/verts?)
But I’m sure many people will enjoy the mounts, so if it makes the majority of the playerbase happy then that’s a good thing. It’s not going to put me off buying or playing the expansion. Plus most of the new specialisations look great! Can’t wait to have a sword on my ele!
I’ve never had an issue with the event, but for the last few days I’ve not been able to do the event as it’s been getting stuck and not spawning the champs to kill before the destroy ogre houses phases. Has anyone else been having this issue?
The events at Sapper’s Deve and Bloodgorge Watch are both clear, and the npcs aren’t dead either. There’s npcs in the main camp which keep saying things like “we’ll hold here, kill the leaders”, but the event just doesn’t spawn.
Someone in map chat told me this has been an issue for years, but it’s the first time I’ve one across it. I’ve tried lots of different map instances on different days and it’s been stuck at the same point on all. Is there any fix to this?
If you have others still to unlock then I’d do those first, this is one of those ones where you don’t need to have it, and it’s not a fun thing like Oakhearts Reach. It has come in handy for me once, where it auto rezzed me when the wyvern blew me off the cliff and I died of fall damage, so it saved me running back from a shrine. It’s just a luxury one to have.
