Wow I didn’t know anything about this new forum! I’m in agreement with others that the new look is quite harsh on the eyes. I’ve only had a quick glance around in it, but it looks quite messy as well. I much prefer the look of this one.

*edit – I’ve also just read something about there being a rank system as well. Not sure how it will work, but I generally don’t like it when forums do stuff like that as it means people will just create topics and post any old rubbish just to try and get their rank up to make them look special.

Actually I had this yesterday with TT, I actually joined the squad 30-35mins before but the map was full, and for most of that 30-35mins I wasn’t able to get in. Normally that’s enough time, but I just chalked it up to it being a weekend, therefore busier.

Didn’t bother me too much as I was only trying while deciding what else to do later anyway, though a few that joined the squad and my map after me, did mange to get in.

This did lead me to a thought though, why can’t the “join in x map” option in the squad add you to a queue for that map instance? This would be a lot fairer as if people have been in the squad for 15-30mins trying to get in then it seems a bit unfair that others could join at the last second and get in the instance ahead of them just by being lucky with timing of when they happen to hit “join in x”.

Also having a queue number like WvW would give people a gauge of if it’s worth hanging around to try and get in or not.

As it say it doesn’t bother me too much as normally something like TT arriving 30 mins before is fine and I can get in. And other maps like Tarirr or DS if I can’t join my squad after a couple of mins trying then I’ll either tag up and try to get a map going or go do something else anyway. But I do think a queue system would be good overall (depending on how much work that is for Anet to do).

Can I just explore the Season 3 maps ?

You might still need to do some story to access bits of the maps, in Bitterfrost I’m pretty sure you won’t be able to mix the thaw elixir to access the eastern part of the map unless you’ve got a char that’s done that in the story first (I might be wrong).

Also I’m pretty sure the ancient magics mastery line is only unlocked by entering a map via story, so you’d best do that to get it unlocked, as having thermal tubes mastery will really make exploring some LS3 maps a lot easier.

I’ve done DS a lot and never had an issue, in fact never had any crashes in any parts of the game in years of playing (on various hardware configurations, Win 7&10 OS).

Will be difficult to determine what’s causing it for you on here, as it could be hardware related, or some background task on your system causing it, or an install issue with the game, other software, OS etc.

This would be incredibly pointless.

Having gold does not make a player experienced, and definitely doesn’t mean they’ll automatically be a good comm, or that they’ll be a better comm than someone who doesn’t have the gold.

Also being experienced in metas, WvW etc doesn’t automatically mean someone will be a good comm, they might have done an event lots of times, but if they aren’t good at communicating, organising, explaining things well to others etc then they won’t be an effective leader.

Likewise someone might have done an event 100 times, but it’s quite possible they still don’t understand it as all they’ve done each time might have been to run with the zerg pressing 1 without really knowing what’s going on or what needs doing. Where as someone else might have done the same event 5 times, but has read up on it, understands all the mechanics, has knowledge of playing various classes so knows how each can best contribute, and is good at commutation, and organising with markers etc.

In addition it doesn’t really matter, as if you join a squad with a comm that is making a real hash of things then you can still try and give the squad advice in squad chat, or ask the comm if they want you to take over (I’ve often even seen some comms say others are free to take over as they’ve just created the squad to get things going). And if a comm is truly awful then chances are most people will probably stop following them anyway.

I don’t see any issue with 2-3 months between episodes, it’s not that much of a wait, and I’d rather this than having content rushed out. Having a couple of months gives players time to get most of the content done, achievements, explore it with alts etc, all at a comfortable and enjoyable pace. And also gives time for Anet to patch any bugs with the zone, or balance things in it etc.

Plus it’s also a good move as it gives quite a large window for players to log in and get the episode for free.

I find I’m always swimming in airship parts despite not really playing VB more than the other HoT maps. I find it’s actually the quickest to accumulate currency on. I find TD to be the slowest.

Also end up overflowing with crowbars, I really wish they would just make it so we can discard them without having to type “x pact crowbars” each time to confirm before we do.

But I love the effort that’s gone into those diagrams XD So just for that I hope Anet give you the option of dragging the minimap to where you want lol.

Poor Rewards for GW2

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: killermanjaro.5670

killermanjaro.5670

Not really sure why this is marked up as a question, as it doesn’t seem that you’re actually asking anything.

Anyway, personally the fact I’ve had 4/5 years enjoyment from playing the game would be enough, don’t really see the need to have something to show for my time playing it. But if during 5 years you really wanted to have some benchmark of “something to show” to feel good about yourself, be it a collection of ascended gear, or whatever, and you haven’t got anything then, I’d say that’s more down to the player rather than due to a lack or reward or “horrible” rewards/drops.

5 years of gameplay would have been plenty of time to easily craft a couple of sets of ascended gear if you had wanted to, especially as you say you’ve been crafting. Kitting out in ascended trinkets is pretty quick too, with options from various modes.

There’s a lot of rewards from various achievements, luminescent armour skin for example.
You could have used the time to build up titles, achievement points, collected skins, whatever it is that you class as having something to show for your time.

In this game you get rewards for practically everything, a lot of the times from doing very little! Lots of bosses & metas drop rares, so it’s quite easy to build up gold to buy things you like off the TP, or to put into crafting, or even to convert to gems. (especially if you’ve been doing it over 5 years). The effort / reward ratio in this game is minimal effort still gets you good rewards, just logging in each day / doing dailies will give you a tonne of rewards that build up to quite a lot over even just one year. And of course outside of PvE there’s WvW & PvP reward tracks which are pretty generous in rewards.

In terms of rewards and treasures what exactly are you expecting? For legendary stuff to appear in drops? For ascended gear to drop at a the same rate as rares? For a precursor to be a guaranteed drop of at least one a year per player?

I really don’t get the last part of your post, no matter what game mode(’s) you play, Anet has made it so that there are plenty of rewards & ways to get gold in game, and most items can be obtained in various ways, so there are plenty of options for players to work towards whatever they want. And with gold to gems, no one needs to spend money even if they want Gemstore items.

What you guys think. Underwater expansion?

killermanjaro.5670

There was a thread a week or so ago about underwater stuff, and I think I said there that underwater mounts could be an option to freshen the underwater scene up a little bit. (Or underwater masteries, underwater leylines/jet stream currents etc would be cool).

But as I mentioned in the other thread, I think a whole underwater expansion would be too risky for Anet to do. I think even if they spent a massive amount of time overhauling underwater combat and designing new underwater elite specs etc, there would just be too many players who would automatically avoid the expansion because they just don’t enjoy underwater areas.

Even if they redesigned the things people don’t like about underwater combat, I think they would already be on the back foot and face a very uphill battle to try and win those players over.

Personally I do like the underwater areas for exploration, and I hope that we do get at least one LS map that is a mostly underwater map (having a massive sunken city would be very cool).

Salvaging LS3 currencies

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: killermanjaro.5670

killermanjaro.5670

This might seem a stupid question, but when it comes to Blood Rubies, Petrified Wood, and Jade Shards, is there not a quick way to salvage these into unbound magic?

I can’t seem to get a “salvage all” option to come up for these, I can only do them one at a time, which is incredibly annoying when you want to salvage over 100 of each, and each time you salvage one you have to confirm manually as well.

The consumable currencies like the Winterberries, Pearls & Fire Orchid Blossoms let you “consume all”, so I’m a bit lost why there isn’t a “salvage all” for the other currencies.

I’m really hoping I’m somehow missing an obvious way to salvage them all in one go, otherwise I’m going to have to end up clicking one hell of a lot (600ihs times?) to salvage 300ish of them, which is just ridiculous!

Snowy maps = least interesting

killermanjaro.5670

I quite enjoy snowy maps (in GW2 & other games in general), in GW2 there are a couple of snowy maps I don’t like, such as Frostgorge, but overall I enjoy the Shiverpeaks maps.

The sets of maps I like least in terms of environment are Orr, and the Ascalon maps, as I don’t enjoy wasteland / barren maps. (probably a large reason why I’ve never been able to get into Fallout, yet love Skyrim).

But the Kryta and Maguma Jungle maps are my favourite as I prefer colourful, lush green, vibrant maps that feel alive. Caledon Forest & Metrica Province in particular have areas in them that feel quite magical and fantasy world like.

I do also enjoy the HoT maps, as they do a great job of portraying the story situation of an inhospitable jungle that’s full of corrupted evil and things trying to kill you.

Can't get to orr maps for the daily

in Players Helping Players

One thing in the meantime that would probably be worth doing is to take your character to LA, exit south then run down through the maps (avoiding enemies) till you get to Fort Trinity WP (and unlock the one just north of it on the way), in straits of devastation.

As that way if you get any Orr dailies again before you’re at lvl80 then you can still do some easily without fighting enemies. As for Orr visa viewer, there’s is a vista in the fort near that WP, for forager there’s a farm just NE of the WP above Fort Trinity (can walk around the odd enemy near it) and for miner, there’s normally some nodes just SW of the fort where there’s no enemies. You could probably do lumber as well, by going NW of the fort there’s normally tree nodes with enough space to go around enemies.

For Heart of Maguma try and find a guild with a guild hall and nodes, that will at least give you an easy option if a gathering one comes up.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’m not bothered by it at all. I pay for the expansion to get the expansion, anything else like the level 80 boost & shared inventory slot are just a bonus.

I think it’s good and better for the game that Anet are giving away the core game / lifting the restrictions for new players buying PoF. It should entice more players to purchase PoF.

Veteran players haven’t exactly lost out on anything, we get birthday rewards etc, we’ve been around long enough to unlock LS maps for free, we’ll go into PoF better equipped & more knowledge about our classes, game mechanics etc than a new player will, we’ve been around to benefit from things like AB:ML when they were a thing. Those are the extra things veteran players get.

Can’t say I’m a fan of a lot of theses flashy skins, outfits, silly tonics etc, or stuff like the big glowing raven glider which blocks half your screen if someone deploys it in front of you.

But the majority seem to enjoy this sort of stuff, and they clearly sell & make Anet money in the process. So as people spend lots of money on shinny things you can’t really blame Anet for continuing to design more big over the top glowing stuff.

I’d quite like it if Anet did design & add some more neutral / understated looking outfits to the gem store to give some options for those of us who don’t go for the stuff with lots of sticky out pointy shoulder bits etc. But again, with limited time & resources to design new outfits, I can see why they’d focus on just shiny/big/flashy stuff that will no doubt be the better seller for them.

and I have no problems with load times with LA . or any other map with my s/s/d drive . load times for any map is give or take 10 seconds at the best or worst case

Oh how I miss the days when I had this game on my ssd! Almost instant load times were the best thing ever!! Sadly I needed to prioritise the ssd space for other things, so had to move the game back to my hdd, where load times are slow, and loading LA is painful Still saving for a bigger ssd so I can go back to the quick loading days.

if you not got another spot on your motherboard to add another ssd drive . BUT you have got a usb 3.0 slot on your motherboard . you can always add a new ssd drive again . and it is very cheep to add them using the usb 3.0 port,s just need the cable is all

There are enough sata ports to add one, but what I’m planning to do is to just save and get a 1tb one so I can replace my hdd altogether. I’ve still got SSD for the OS, software & work projects, it’s just the hdd I’m using for games & media storage I want to replace.

SSD’s are so cheap these days you shouldn’t have any problem getting one with lots of space for a good price. Check out the prices online. My 400g SSD cost me $200 Canadian and that was at a local shop. From what I’m seeing online you can get a lot better than that now for the same price

here in the usa you can get from amazon a western digital 250 gig ssd drive before shipping and tax for $89.00 us money .

Yeah SSDs have dropped a lot, and I could add a small one quite cheap to use for only this game. But I’m planning to get a 1tb one so I can replace my game & storage Hdd completely. I can pick one up around £230-250, but finances aren’t good right now, so there’s a few things ahead of it lol

Best way to solo HoT?

in Elementalist

Posted by: killermanjaro.5670

killermanjaro.5670

I solo with staff tempest, and found from a survival point of view having the Arcane trait line with Final Shielding was great, having Arcane Shield pop automatically when you drop below about half health saved my life countless times. Gives you enough time to get away if you’re caught in an AoE, or a trail from a Modrem Sniper shot.

In addition to that I had a Superior Sigil of Energy in one of my weapon slots, as if you get into trouble then switching attunements gets back endurance quite quickly for some extra quick dodges.

When I was new to HoT I was mostly using a mix of soldier’s gear, with a couple of zerker bits, which seemed to give me a good balance to survive. Now I know the content & enemies I’m able to survive in full zerker stuff by just taking down enemies before they take me down. It’s just a case of being more tactical, and being on point with positioning and dodging.

My trusty earth golem is always a useful summon if I engage a large mob and want to take some aggro away from me too.

I don’t use any meta builds, so the way I play might not be seen as ‘optimal’ by some, but these things work for me and how I play. So hopefully something there might help you out with surviving too.

Is the game badly optimized/outdated?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Can’t say I’ve got any issues with it, the only time I get low fps is when there’s a tonne of people together, world boss, zerg etc. In which instances, lower fps is to be expected. Never get any disconnects, except on those rare occasions when the servers go down.

Personally I’d say the engine is best left alone, it works fine. To overhaul to a new engine would cost an extortionate amount of money, time, and resources, as well as impacting development of any new content, maintenance and bug fixes etc. The other crucial issue is changing to a new engine at this stage would likely cause no end of issues, crashes and headaches with existing content, in the core game and expacs.

[Suggestion] Can we have underwater maps

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: killermanjaro.5670

killermanjaro.5670

I’d really enjoy more underwater maps. The underwater parts of this game offer some of the most interesting environments and places to explore, really gave this game a unique feel to it.

Sadly though I doubt we’ll see more as I don’t think there’s even been a hint at any more underwater content from Anet over the years, feels like it’s been abandoned. I know some people found issue with the combat, but I thought it was functional at least.

Also while I’m not a fan of them, the fact we now have mounts could give a potential revamp to underwater zones if they decided to create underwater mounts of some form. But I really don’t think we’d see anything like that, or improvements or overhauls to the underwater stuff unless we were getting a whole new expansion where the majority of maps would be underwater ones. (And I doubt we would get such an expac as it would be quite a risky move given how divided players are on underwater stuff, I imagine it would turn a lot of players away from it)

Still for those of us that do enjoy underwater exploration, we can only hope there’s at least more underwater sections added. Having one new LS map that’s purely underwater would be nice, as that would also give Anet a chance to try out some new underwater mechanics to see what players think, to test the water as it were

Mastery points in Gem store

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: killermanjaro.5670

killermanjaro.5670

Given that actually there are plenty of masteries available, it sounds more like another case of someone wanting rewards without actually putting any effort in, or playing the game. The core tyria ones I guess had lower available points if you didn’t have LS2, but they’ve since added 9 extra that take zero effort to help.

I don’t do raiding, WVW, PVP, complex metas, older content that no one is doing anymore, fractals and so forth. I’m don’t want stuff given to me, but at the same time, I don’t want to be forced to play types of content that I don’t like.

Not really sure what “older content that no one is doing” is, as people still do dungeons etc, and core maps are soloable by all. But if you don’t do those, don’t like raids, WvW, PvP, complex metas (not sure which are “complex” ones), and don’t like fractals, then I’m not entirely sure what you’re doing in the game, as that pretty much rules out all the modes.

*edit – incidentally I didn’t think PvP or WvW even had any connection to masteries, so I’m not even sure why they’ve been brought up to start with.

I don’t like them either, along with most of these big glowing, flashy “look at me, aren’t I special?” items (something I imagine will get worse if/when custom mount stuff becomes available) .

But going by the amount of characters I see with them in game, I think it’s safe to assume the majority of players do like, and spend money on them. So as it pleases most of the player base (or at least seems to) , and keeps money coming into Anet, then I can’t really complain as it’s good for the game.

Besides, I’m sure I like things in the game that other people hate, so there’s always going to be something someone doesn’t like.

Thoughts on decreasing waypoints

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: killermanjaro.5670

killermanjaro.5670

Well going by the amount of people that lay around dead at events & bosses who refuse to use a WP that’s 30 seconds away maybe Anet concluded waypoints weren’t needed, so decided to reduce them lol

Actually being serious though, I didn’t mind the amount of waypoints in the HoT maps, that balance felt about right, and they were located well around the map, in terms of near events or wallows to quickly get further into the map.

The LS maps which had few waypoints, but quick ways to get around, like thermal tubes or leylines (like Ember Bay/Bloodstone Fen) were fine, but I’m not a fan of ones like Bitterfrost Frontier or Lake Doric, where the placement doesn’t seem that great. Siren’s Landing was ok in terms of location of shrines, but it still annoys me that I have to go through an extra loading screen as I can’t go directly to them from outside of the map.

What I will absolutely hate though is if the PoF maps end up being twice the size of normal maps, with only something like 3 waypoints. As to me that’ll just be a desperate attempt to try and justify the mounts.

I’d also agree with the point of if people don’t like there being too many waypoints then they just have the option to not use them.

Story missions too unfair for solo players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: killermanjaro.5670

killermanjaro.5670

Bosses like the final HoT story, and, maybe the last one in Lake Doric which is an AoE spam fest are much easier with an extra player. But in terms of story missions & bosses being way too hard, or unfair for solo players I would have to disagree.

I know difficulty is subjective, but I don’t use any meta builds, and I’d say my skill level is average at best, but having solo’d the story, HoT & LS chapters with a fairly squishy ele, I’d say 95% of the story missions & bosses are fairly easy, and the other 5% challenging to difficult.

I think the main thing with the story missions is some just require a bit more concentration and awareness of where enemies are than open world does. In terms of being careful where you pull enemies, how many you pull etc. As well as being aware you need to dodge etc, where as in open world in most cases you can get away with not doing so.

[Suggestion] Keep weapons drawn.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Personally I always stow my weapon manually the second I’m done with combat as I think the 25 seconds is quite long too.

But I can’t see any harm having a toggle option so players can leave it as it is now with the autostow, or could have autostow turned off. Either way wouldn’t effect me as I’ll continue to stow manually straight after combat.

Edit – from a role play pov I’d actually say weapons should be permanently stowed in cities, as realistically it walking around a city with a drawn weapon doesn’t make sense. But obviously wouldn’t make sense to do in game as players like to show off their shiny new weapons there.

What happens if i dont want to raid?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: killermanjaro.5670

killermanjaro.5670

I assume the logic behind it having to unlock the raid track was to get players to try raids, but I completely get your frustration at it, as once I’d completed all the HoT masteries I was also annoyed at having my exp bar locked and not being able to progress it until I’d unlocked the raid masteries.

However I don’t think it’s something that will change anytime soon (if at all), so for now I’d just bite the bullet and try to get VG or the escort one done, you only need to do enough to unlock the track, so don’t need to clear a whole raid. Once the track is unlocked you can level the masteries in HoT maps and don’t ever need to go back to raids.

After a couple of weeks joining VG raid training & newbie friendly groups on LFG (and failing all the time), I ended up asking for advice on the raids forum here, and got quite a few messages from kind raiders who were willing to help me unlock the track, I joined one who with his guild buddies helped me down VG on the first try. (I even survived the fight). So I’d drop a message over in the raid forum and see if you can get some help there.

I hear that the escort one is actually easier to do than VG, and can be pugged, but I don’t really know raid stuff, so best to confirm it with those who know about raids. Since unlocking the track I have wanted to get into raids, but just haven’t had the time.

Well to be fair, I don’t know about anyone else, but the home instance doesn’t feel very homey. It would be cool to have a house or apartment that I can put stuff in. I mean, guild halls are great and all, but not everyone can get those.

I’m in agreement with you, the home instance doesn’t feel homey to me either. I rarely bother even going to mine, even though I’ve got various chests/nodes etc, it just isn’t the same as housing. I’ve been in guilds with each of the guild halls, and neither guild hall location can really be classed as housing, they’re too big, and again not exactly homey.

I’d quite like something like the guild building in LA, that sort of size. Or the tavern in the northern section of DR. It would be much nicer to have proper player housing where you could have your own collectibles, weapons etc on display. As well as your nodes etc. Even if only you or your party members will ever see it, that would be fine.

Personally I’d have much rather have had proper player housing than mounts.

I remember spending ages fishing in, I think it was Breath of Fire 3 (a great game), no idea why, but I just got addicted to the fishing mini game part, there was something relaxing about it. So I’d love fishing in GW2!

If done as a mini game that requires timing or skill then I’m sure that would minimise any botting & the AFKers. If it didn’t then they could always limit the amount you could catch in one day, sort of like a fishing quota to make it sustainable fishing.

[Feedback]Path of Fire Elite Specialization Preview - August 18-20

I only tested on golems, but I found the weaver which I was looking forward to, a little disappointing. The sword / dagger combo didn’t feel very powerful, with a lot of the sword skills seeming quite weak. I also found it very hard to develop any sort of flow to the rotation as the attunement cd always seemed to keep me locked out of things for too long. The stances didn’t seem that great either.

Would be nice to have one more test weekend for the elite spec, but in PvE.

Just Finished HoT and...

Fair enough if you didn’t enjoy HoT because you didn’t like navigation with bouncing shrooms / gliding, difficulty of mobs etc. That’s all subjective stuff, some people like me enjoyed all that, and of course some people didn’t.

But this part

(soloing hero points because nobody plays this game anymore).

Don’t really see how you’ve reached the conclusion that “nobody plays this game anymore”. Maps still have regular HP trains, the LFG always has several groups listed for active meta maps, and even a simple call for help in map chat (long as it’s asked nicely) get’s players together.

edit – one thing worth pointing out as well, is with the whole context of the story of HoT, it makes perfect sense why the maps aren’t as relaxing to explore as the core ones. The whole place is an inhospitable jungle that’s effectively alive/being controlled, where everything is corrupted and trying to kill you. So the atmosphere of relaxing exploration wouldn’t really fit with the story or environment, a jungle should be a labyrinth that’s easy to get lost in if you don’t know the way. (not saying people should enjoy that, but just that it makes sense why it is the way it is)

[Suggestion] Gift of Battle acquisition

I think it actually works well / as intended by having it as a WvW reward track. In that I’m a PvE player, 95% of the time I’m doing open world stuff.

But recently I decided to get a Gift of Battle, dreading the thought going into WvW as I was expecting it to be toxic and stressful, however I discovered two things.

1) It’s actually quite easy to get, it seems you get stuff toward your reward track for pretty much anything you do. Following a zerg with boosters makes it a lot quicker though.

2) By about halfway through the reward track you start to discover that actually WvW isn’t as scary or as hostile as it first seems, and you can learn quite a lot about WvW just by following a good comm around and paying attention to what’s going on.

In my case I actually ended up enjoying it, and when I get time will still go back and play in WvW from time to time. A mode which until now I’d ignored.

Now of course not everyone will enjoy the mode, but if you try and do the whole reward track with the mindset that you’ll always hate it then, it will never be fun. But if you try and pick up/learn a bit about WvW while you’re doing it, then the time flies by a lot quicker and you’ll have the Gift of Battle before you realise it.

I can also see a bit of logic having things for legendary weapons split across different modes, in that it means a player crafting a legendary gets experience in various areas of the game, in theory making them a better all round player.

UGLY Launcher

Are there really that many people sitting around just looking at the launcher all day? Don’t people just open it then hit play straight away?

Even if there’s an update it’s still only on screen for max a couple of mins, and you don’t have to sit there looking at it, do other stuff on the PC while you wait.

Waypoint almost always contested during event

From memory there’s an event that needs doing to make it uncontested (I think this one https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Help_Solus_collect_plant_material_for_his_oil_processors). Which I think has always been the case, so chances are when you’ve had maps where it’s been uncontested it’s probably because you’ve lucked out and others on the map have done the event earlier, probably before the vinewraith.

Why did you pre-purchase Path of Fire?

For 30 dollars I am able to keep on playing GW2 for a long time, why not just buy it?
For people who want to cheap out this 30 dollars cuz you’re too poor or whatever, what’s the reason for you to stay in GW2?
Is there any point left for you to stay in GW2 if you’re going to give up all the future contents?
If I am in your position I’d just drop the game entirely.

I might be reading this wrong, but it sounds like your implying that if people can’t afford PoF then they should give up the game, which is a ridiculous suggestion.

I don’t know if it’s a bug of some sort, but occasionally I’ve somehow ended up staying alive at the reset, very odd being the only one standing when there’s a stack of dead people at your feet lol. I’ve occasionally seen it happen to others when I’ve been in the dead pile too.

I don’t really get hyped for anything, so trailers, the announcement etc didn’t sway me at all. My logic was simply that give how many hours I’ve put into the game, and that I’ve enjoyed HoT & LS content, I’d probably have ended up buying this at some point, so it made sense just to pre order.

As it turns out, based on the PvE preview, I don’t think I’ll be spending any time in PoF once I’ve done map completion and the story, as there was very little I enjoyed in the preview. But if map completion and story give me 8-10hours then that’s still not bad for £25. Had this expansion been £40+ then I’d probably have waited till it was on sale.

Feedback thread for Weaver!

So far I’ve only tested on various golems in the PvP lobby (mainly a PvE player, so don’t really do PvP, & not confident that I’d learn anything trying it in WvW).

But I’m finding that I’m really struggling to work out a good rotation, the cooldown on attunements seems to be locking me out of doing any sort of free flowing combo. I seem to be ending up stuck in attunements for far longer than I need to be. (this is with sword / dagger).

With staff (which is what I use now), I still couldn’t really seem to get into a flow, the number 3 combo skills seemed fun, but most didn’t feel that powerful.

On the test golems it felt like I was taking them down considerably quicker using staff tempest, and doing a lot more damage than I could seem to get out of weaver.

I’m not a great player, so maybe it will just take me a lot of gameplay time to learn how to really use weaver. But though I’ve been looking forward to it, my gut feeling right now is come PoF I’ll continue as a tempest.

Hostile Takeover in LFG by 'Merge' Function

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

killermanjaro.5670

I’m not sure I’ve specifically encountered the reasons you mention, but agree the merge groups needs options to prevent it. As too many times some random will merge groups from different map metas no reason (no idea if people do it troll or just by accident), which gets really messy & disruptive for the comm who then has to sort his/her squad back out, and kick those who are doing the meta in the other map that merged, to free up squad space again.

I have no idea why it’s been designed so any random in a squad can merge groups. It should be limited to comms only, and even then it should send a request to the comm of the other group who would then have the option of agreeing weather to accept the merge or not.

Your idea of also an option for the comm to set the group to un-mergeable would also be good.

Don't Care for Catmander Tag

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: killermanjaro.5670

killermanjaro.5670

I admit when I first heard of them I thought the idea sounded stupid and was worried my mini map would be full of people trolling it with cat icons. But the reality is the tag is actually quite subtle in its design, and really isn’t a bother at all, certainly not worth complaining about.

Sure a few more people seem to be tagging up than normal in PvE, but not enough to clutter maps up, and in part it’s probably also due to the sudden surge of people doing the side stories events that came at the same time. Plus as others mentioned it’s a fad that will go back to normal soon.

I do hope that’s it for extra designs though, if we start having 50 different icon designs for comm tags then it’s going to get messy.

*edit – though for those who really can’t stand them, it wouldn’t harm to have a tickbox option to allow users to see cat tags as default comm tags on their end. But it’s probably a lot more work than it’s actually worth.
