My advice:
-Pick one of the 4 classes, that best fits your play style, and learn every aspect of the class’ mechanics.

-Make friends in the sPvP community

-Grab 1 other person, and participate in the mistpedia 2v2s (look for the stickes on the sPvP Forums)

-Practice 1v1s against players of higher skill

-Get that rank up to 80

-Watch high level Gw2 Tournaments (twitch.tv/blu42 or twitch.tv/guildwars2)

Just fyi: Since the LFP forum has been destroyed by WvW guilds recruiting, most sPvP teams form up in-game.

It’s not a bug. No player skill in the game prevents condition damage. You’ll have to cleanse them or wear them off. It’s a simple rule so no need to bloat all tooltips with that information.

Warrior berserker stance prevents condition damage. Not sure if that’s the only one.

No it doesn’t. It only reduces condition duration by 100%. If the opponent is running +Condition Duration buffs you are still affected.

For the reward suggestions… honestly, specific rewards have already been mentioned a lot, and re-posting some of them would kind of be a waste of time. Anet knows what rewards would make us happy, they just don’t know how to implement it without causing a economy meltdown, or having PvE farmers flood PvP because it had better rewards.

Honestly, the last weekend was a blast to Q into Ranked with a full squad, because teams where actually Qing in anticipation of WTSIQ, but that quickly faded….. If there was a bracket’d AT’s that had —>REAL<-- rewards, and not the BS reward tracks, that PvPer’s just throw away because it takes up so much inventory space; I’m guessing we would see more team v teams in ranked Q, which could help the scene get better, which would make the bigger tournies a lot more competitive (we would start to see more teams take first!). This would also work great with a tier system.

Literally…. I am so bored when I log on… I dont solo Q anymore because of the many many many problems with stupid builds, q times, matchmaking, and leaderboards. I log on for team practice, ESL’s and big tournaments…. Sometimes I just wanna have fun…. but I have now found other games for it. So freaking sad that this game is in such a low spot… Hopefully the expansion will bring the fun back.

5v5 is already tiny enough.
You have over a million player base and people aren’t interested, its not because of team size, because it doesn’t have the competitive feeling towards it. You need to make this game feel competitive and fun. Like it did when it originally came out.

People just quit, because it took you guys too long to actually get leaderboards and actual tournaments, also because you kept making changes to make it less competitive and fun. Like enforcing everything to be on a win or lose bases. ‘ya get your points on win or loss, no more fun, too much serious is not fun’.

lemme tell ya abjured won the last 11 or so WEEKS straight, don’t think they lost a game either. shows how big this competitive game is and how serious other teams are.

Think of it like a job, you have friends, but work and friends don’t mix.
When it comes to work, aka winning, you get rid of those losers/weak links. You want your business to be successful as it can be. Strong links only.

Speaking of which, you know why I don’t consider these teams, for example, Abjured a guild, even though they are a tiny guild?
Because they don’t let people in, they aren’t trying to get people and better the ‘guild’. Its just a fad.
Like say DoD, if they was really a guild, they’d have like 40 people they think is good, and do actual tryouts and of those 40 people they’d bring it down to the top 5 and go from there.
But since DoD isn’t a guild and only has like 8 or so members, barely even hiring because they think they know all the good players and nobody left or whatever there reason, they wont get any better. There 8 people bring it down to the top 5 isn’t as good as 40 people pool and bringing it down to the top 5.

I don’t know how many people GASM has, or if they still active and around, but I’m actually surprised they haven’t even entered into any tournaments especially when I do see them, they are trying to get a community of PvP’ers together (only people I see do this).

Back in the days, I think Being OP is hard was one of the guilds of PvP that actually had a good amount of players. That would make me consider them an actual PvP guild. Too bad they aren’t active anymore, I respected them, they had good players too.

Truth be told, I’m sure more people know of GASM over radioactive and DoD. I wouldn’t be surprised if more people know of GASM than they do of Abjured too. Most people that know of those teams other than GASM are people that frequent the forums.

GASM dueling server is usually at the top of the custom arena list too.
I’ve never really heard about radioactive or dod until I actually went out of my way to see what the top teams are. never heard of abjured until the wts, haven’t really heard of them since, all I know is they win esl, just because I go to the forums.

GASM is like everywhere, or use to be. see them in games, there server at top of custom arena, that guy hiring top pvp’ers. other guilds/teams… crickets.

Probably why you get so low of people watching these games, because nobody even knows of those guilds.
I could goto a populated zone and ask whos the best pvp team, probably get 1 or 2 answers if any out of 200 or 300 people whatever the max is.

People are complaining about the lack of HoT information, which makes very little sense since there were nothing at all that indicated that there would be any HoT information.

Not really, sure people expected them to talk about HoT abit, but I’m sure people would of understood that the details would be announced, and not given out on the first ready up after the Xpac announcement. The fact that they did not elaborate on the THEME of the ready up episode is disturbing…………

Who kittening cares? Meta is an unbalanced snoozefest and conquest only just makes it worse. There’s a reason games like Paper Mario and SimCity typically have more viewers than these events.

I have not seen a stream that plays those games with 7-9k viewers.

It sounds like a MOBA. I welcome this…. Hopefully Anet will make it raw knowledge and skill based, and not “who has the more PVE skillz”. Although, LoL and Smite do have PvE, and with Gw2’s combat system, it could be the next step in MOBA, ofc we still do not know much yet on the details.

There are some really good Mesmer’s in NA, but in terms of playing conquest, you Mime and Mide (who’s been MIA recently) are the top 3 that I’m familiar with. And as good as the three of you are, I think we can agree that Helseth plays conquest noticeably better. No offense meant, as I’m sure numerous Mesmers are better than Helseth at various aspects of Mesmer. Helseth is a shot caller on his team so he can help them rotate to compensate for what Mesmer lacks, so that probably helps keep him in favorable positions. TCG has also evolved their play around Mesmer and Thief, which definitely helps.

Part of the issue may be that players don’t necessarily want to play around the strengths and weaknesses of a Mesmer. Thief being in the Meta basically requires Mesmer to be baby sat in matches where the enemy team has a thief. Perhaps teams find this too restricting to play around, since S/D Thief is often what they have to contend with, and S/D thief is very difficult to lock down and can quickly swap targets it wants to engage on.

But I would say that it’s not just the combination of Necro and Thief that push the Mesmer out of the Meta, even if Necro weren’t viable, in a team setting I feel like it’d be better to take another Celestial Rifle Engineer (possibly rabid) over another Mesmer. Even though it loses that matchup in a 1v1, on a Node with LoS engi doesn’t have to lose that fight especially if he’s potentially willing to give up the neut. This keeps that point even and gives plenty of time for people to rotate the fight into a 2v2, which immediately puts the team with the mesmer at a disadvantage in that fight.

So I’d argue it’s Thief, Necro, and Engineer that push Mesmer out of the Meta for that 2nd Roamer spot on teams. However, because of the sustain Engi has it’s technically considered a brawler.

Especially if you’re an engineer which absolutely carries even abysmal players just from the fact that they basically can’t be burst down ever. As long as you know the heal rotation.

For one, OMFG isn’t a .. uh.. guild – guild. If that makes sense. Its moreso a way for Mesmers to meet up and chat in-game. Secondly, it’s not a PvP-specific guild either. Thirdly, it mostly have players who’re trying to learn the class and learn from others. And fourthly.. I think Rylock would take issue with that. =P

The problem with using RANK for MMR aswell as games played win/loss ratio.
Is to my knowledge that now it takes no dedication or skill whatsoever to reach R80.

I recently (3weeks ago) returned to gw2 after a 14month hiatus, to find that i was R57 as i was back then. now im nearly 80, and that’s just not right in my book, there needs to be added some ranks to it, and they need to be VASTLY more difficult to obtain than it is to obtain R80. or a secondary rank, that can be used to calculate MMR properly.

Right now the leaderboards are a clear sign that things are horribly wrong, just take a look at the NA leaderboard – as im writing this, the #2 has 29games won and 23 games lost – with 55.77% win ratio.

scroll down abit and you’ll see Rat Meta, he has 29games played and 29games won – ergo a 100% win rate. now – wether he is soloing (not really looking possible with matchmaking atm, since luck plays its part) or has a full team, he is the current top player on NA, so why is he #12 rather than #1 ?

I know you want effort to play a role in the leaderboards, but effort does NOT = skill, and the leaderboards are there to reflect skill, to tell us whos the best.

Right now the leaderboards are about as usefull as the map selection system, 9votes for 1 map, 1 for another, and the one with just 1 measely vote wins. I’ve had it happen more than half my games during the temporary ladder, and it’s frustrating. as is the idea – of committing yourself to outplay everyone, only to find that you’re not getting the recognition for your acchievements that you deserve.

He’s not top player NA. My team literally destroyed his team in rated and the 2 recent 2v2s…. Hes taiwanese? I think which means he plays very early in the morning wheen there is no competition.

The sad thing is. I’m able to still maintain a high lb rating. It’s better to soloq and duo q to maintain and increase your lb rating.

Like most mixed matchmakers, solo queue players are not dumped into solo rosters right away. Team take precedence because stomping pubs should be supported, and so all the solo players get dumped into rosters with/against teams.

You only get a solo player match if there are no teams to shuffle you into. The presence of teams makes you a filler commodity, not an individual player.

Can a dev confirm this?
