We have listened to your feedback and been looking at how we could make changes to the format but still follow our schedule and time available.
We have decided to make the Open Qualifiers on Saturday double elimination. On Saturday play will continue up until top 8. Top 8 will then be seeded into a single elimination bracket that will be played on Monday, the 4 winning teams will have secured themselves a spot in the ESL Guild Wars 2 Pro League. The matches on Monday will also be broadcasted live from our UK studios on http://twitch.tv/guildwars2.
Please keep in mind that this will make the tournament on Saturday run longer than first expected, we’ll do our best to keep delays a minimum and also hope that teams will do their part to have everything run smoothly.

Agreed. I’m happy with these changes but I am still disappointed about matches scheduled on Mondays at 18h00 CEST…. Why?!
Good question! There were a number of factors that ultimately contributed to our decision to run Pro League on Mondays:
All Pro League matches will be broadcast in person from ESL’s Studios – meaning no more seeing Jebro’s dirty laundry in the background of his webcam. This brings two big dependencies:
We need a day when Jebro, Heurix, and Storm are all available to cast. These guys are jumping on a plane each week to shoutcast for us and trying to work with their schedule is important when you consider they all have other jobs or school.
ESL has a fairly booked schedule when it comes to studio availability considering they’re broadcasting some sort of every single day.
Another big reason for Mondays is Twitch viewership. After looking at the schedule and viewership trends/data with ESL, we believe we can carve a place out for ourselves on Mondays and make sure we give it an appropriate amount of promotion from both us and our partners. We are exploring the idea of rebroadcasting Pro League on the weekend somewhere so anyone who missed the live cast can catch it. Thoughts?
Unfortunately, there isn’t a single day we could pick that would work for everyone, but we’re certainly trying out best to accommodate as many people as possible. This is why we announced the days that Pro League would take place well in advance of sign-ups – just to make sure people know what they’re getting into.
Pro League is obviously a big undertaking for us at ArenaNet, and we’ll undoubtedly iterate on the experience over the next few months and long into the future. I’m stoked.
I think the ESL pro league matches should be broadcasted on a Official Guild Wars 2 ESL Twitch channel. Having the matches on the Guild Wars 2 Twitch is kinda cheesy.

I see serious questions, lets have serious answers.
I’m usualy ignoring this “competitive” scene for few reasons, but your attitude in this topic has drawn my attention. You may consider it a bit harsh, but I guess you asked for it.
Why would I even want to join/form a team? So far prizes were so low I wouldn’t even bother if I just could get same or more money by visiting my local store and win FNM or other store organized tournament on weekly basis while playing MTG even less than seriously?
Let me repeat, was there any reason to even “compete” in ESL so far? No?
Also, did you ever performed well in ESL yourself? Or you’re just performing in it? I thought you can’t beat one team since 40 weeks or so (?), I’ve already lost track for how long Abjured is melting faces on NA.
And: if you are not playing the game as much as people would need to, to compete at ESL level
I’m not, I wouldn’t even join it. But since you’ve asked question, you should also ask yourself. Do you play this game enough to compete against Abjured?

Nothing. Caring to win and winning are two different things. I’ve seen many “casual” players taking part in MTG tournaments and never winning a single 1$. We’re they not casuals because they tried to?

Edit: Do you really believe number of participants is so high, that limiting and filtering “casuals” will make GW2 “competitive” scene grow? I’ve been playing MTG for years, until I got bored with it and no single event, even minor qualifier was happning on other day than friday/weekend.
You need some education on the competition of eSports in Gw2. If you want, feel free to pm me and I can answer all of the questions (i hate writing on forums). As for the “attitude” its just a reaction to your “attitude”. You do not know what your talking about obviously, so it annoyed me a bit. But srsly, if you want any insight into the High Level sPvP, you should look up past major tournaments and work up to ESL’s, otherwise your as clueless as your are now. Have a great night!

YES, gw2 does have a small competitive scene especially in the highest level, however each of those teams can commit to any day the pro league matches could be on, so making it Monday or any other doesn’t matter too much. If you cannot dedicate time to the pro league then Good luck even qualifying… putting the matches on monday is smart, it weeds out all the casuals.
I turned down an interview for an awesome job because it was second shift, and that meant no tournaments :P Esportz!
I made sure that my college and work schedules don’t mess with the ESL pro league matches and qualifiers.

Or you could just use your brain? There could in theory be as many teams as ToL3 (why wouldn’t there be?) – that was single elimination and took an entire afternoon. Imagine if that was double elimination.

Considering warrior state atm and considering this bug had always been here can you please fix banner to actually make it rez instead of just healing downed ally for x amount and failing to res if he’s too low?
Bannering people in time on NA servers without stability and with 250 ping and lags all over the place is already tricky enough to see it just failing to work as intended cause some weird design behind it and noone caring about for 3 years

Okay great, now we have some solid elements to draw from. Now, let’s look at these 4 teams. Let’s say these 4 teams are legit kittenes. Would you say 4 really good teams are enough to make the statement that the EU scene > than the NA scene?
Additionally, I see this a lot from the NA teams even from 3 years ago… Our TOP teams would just say, “Yeah EU teams are better.”
Why?
You’ve defeated yourselves even more you’ve been given the opportunity to give it a goo go.
While I’ll agree that the NA teams are very… “fickle”. I think even your team would beat some of those guys.
You need to start believing in yourselves more.
Its not about believing in ourselves, its the lack of commitment NA has. Our only confident Team in NA is abjured, and im sure no other NA team could say they could beat the top EU teams easily, or even at all, for several reasons: 1)Rosters in NA shift, every day/week, 2) NA new teams are not formed from returning players but rather completely new players to the scene (which is a good thing, but there is alot of learning to be done), 3) Since teams shift rosters, any practice/strats get forgotten, and eventually not even applied/practiced. Hopefully, the promised leagues/rewards will bring good NA players back to the game, while giving incentive to teams to stick together and practice to improve, not just for glory.

Ill provide some insight into the current “top” NA teams. As of right now, there is only one NA team dedicated to this game (abjured). When I say dedicated, I mean they practice outside of ESL. The rest of the teams that compete in the NA ESL use Ranked Q to practice. Not many scrims happen in NA, while there isn’t a ToL or some other tournament. I’m not sure how EU practices, but the top 4 teams in EU seem to have a well syncronized group, with a gameplan/tactics, similar to the abjured. Whenever a major tournament is announced, NA teams start to form (and almost all of them disband right after).
Wrote this while tired -_-, just thought this would be interesting to some people.
TLDR: NA only gets good during major tournaments, and goes dormant when there is a lack of it.
PS: im not saying EU>NA, im just explaining why NA looks weak competitively (in ESLs)

Also a another Q. I noticed quite a bunch of random newer teams in the esl cup, even though they most likly got destroyed, some of the teams might of picked up some seeding pts for participating, does this mean they cannot sign up for academy gaming even though they are a newer team and qualify to be in the academy gaming weeklies because of being newer to the scene as well as the esl ones because anyone can sign up, resulting in more seeding points than the would of had? Sry for bad grammar… on phone.

As for invites, I see what you’re saying and if we had as many teams that are “actual teams” as we had 6 months ago, I agree that would have been a wise decision. But given the fact that there are were very, very few stable teams prior to this week, that was just not possible. That would have been sending invites to individuals who would scrounge up 4 others as fast as they could, not sending out invites to invite a full team of 5.
And to be fair to you..and DPS…I don’t think anyone expected 64 teams within 7 hours. In future tournament, invites may be a solution for something like this.
I think these tournaments should promote actual teams to stay together…. something like guaranteed top 5 seed, depending on ESL cups.
The main reason im frustrated about this is because, every gw2 tournament up to now, has had some major issues ( and when i say major issues, i mean it literally changed the actual outcome of the tournament); with dps back and hosting this tournament, I had high hopes that they would get it right, with no surprise problems, a smoothly run tournament. I understand “problems” happen, but this many times in a row? This tournament is getting on the short (getting longer) list of guild wars 2 competitive scene failures. gl with the tourney turrent engi teams! <3
At this point the only failure is you not signing up, to be fair…. Just sign up and get on the waiting list. Most teams are pve/wvw heroes wanting a lama, there will be a lot of dropouts I’m guessing.

It was announced on Monday what day and time signups would go live. I believe it hit the cap 6 or 7 hours after there were live.
Remember, a lot of teams will drop out and we will be needing those teams on waiting list.
I would like to see it expanded to 128 teams, but I’m not sure if that’s something that is doable.. we will have to see.
As for sending invites out to teams. Before this week there were maybe 2-3 teams on NA that were actually stable. Because of this, there is no knowing of who to even send invites out to. Most of these teams formed yesterday or today, no doubt. You can’t blame DPS for this.
This game isn’t ewports enough to wake up at 5am to sign up… the sign ups WERE OPEN FOR 1 DAY and full….. I worked the entire day… still working actually.. and the invites could of been sent out to stable teams such as radioactive, apex, abjured etc..
And I’m not blaming you for not signing up radioactive in time.. if anyone’s fault it’s mine okk? But a tourney of this size and significance should be dealt with better. I realize you and dps do not get payed for this, but isn’t it worth it to try to produce a competitive tournament? radioactive will most likly have its spot taken by a turret engi kitten team LOL. Radioactive has already put a decent number of hours to get a competitive edge in this tournament… we wanted to upset this tournament…. prolly not gonna happen now….

Nobody likes playing against your try hard 3 turret engi 1 shoutbow and 1 lich necro party. You guys literally spam the ranked Q and just farm with super skillfull builds.

Also its funny when the engis in your party swapped to cele they lost to a double thief pug so they had to go back to turret to get dem wins.

the real problem is, there is literally no one dedicated to this game to come up with a strategy, practice it, then execute it with precision against the Abjured. Mainly for the reasons of 1) not many teams 2) stale meta and competition 2) the amount of players on the high tier scene (im talking about when its off season, and half the community disappears till the next tourney) 3) no REAL practice options available (besides community driven scrims), because of matchmaking, no leagues, no seasons, and no teams qing into ranked.
Radioactive has been trying to test out new comps and strats in Ranked if we could not find a scrim, and we met solo q after solo q…. Besides dueling, 2v2s, and mentally thinking about rotations and openers, we cannot get the real practice in at all…. stupid game and scene.
