If your old co worker has the tools, you do not have to buy the screw driver, just pay him the thermal paste. You do not change thermal paste that often. Once every 3-6 years.
It’s doubtful that he does, considering he owns only PCs, I think. I am under the impression that this type of screwdriver is used for Macs only. But he built his own computer and he was easily the most knowledgeable person in our department, if not the entire store, about computers, so I know he will be more reliable than just me by my lonesome lol.
I cannot thank you enough for your patience, politeness, and time! I honestly thought that this was the end of the road for me, and I was not taking it well at all lol. Here’s hoping that this is the solution I’ve been looking for.

yep, I think it is overheating

I do not know your exact i5 model but I just grab a random i5 sandy bridge and it says 100 C limit. You are hitting 99 C.
sigh… Do you have a friend who has apple torq screws and thermal paste?
Sorry for all the trouble, but thank you for the help so far.
There is a Best Buy very close by, and luckily enough I used to work there. There’s a chance that one of my old coworkers may be able to help me out. I sent him a message on Facebook pleading my case, so it’s just a waiting game until then. Hopefully he agrees to help me tackle this beast. The screwdriver is about $10 on eBay so that’s a relief. Another $10 or so for thermal paste, looks like.
I’m so relieved that there is a chance this problem may be fixed without me pinching pennies for a new computer. As terrible as it is to have to play on the Mac client, it’s so much better than not playing at all.
I am like absolutely positive without a shadow of a doubt that my computer is way way way too hot. Sorry if I didn’t get quite the right information, I was looking for something that looked like the screenshot you posted, but I guess this app has a free and paid version, and I got the free version.
This is with Safari, Activity Monitor, and GW2 open.
Edit: I’m stupid and don’t know how to form sentences.

Macbook are pretty painful to open with those torq screws etc.
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Unibody+Early+2011+Heat+Sink+Replacement/5153
yea… I am just wondering if the macbook is overheating? If the macbook is not overheating then opening the macbook is a waste of time.
If you currently have a stick of ram in each slot, then I doubt changing the ram will increase the framerates much. IGPU depends on bandwidth not amount of ram.
One last question? Are you running windows. Yea, I have to ask because Intel does supply comparable graphic driver than apple. GW2 is a direct x 9 game
Yes, I currently have a 2GB stick in each slot. My apologies for not clarifying earlier.
I’m starting to think that maybe it is overheating and that’s what is affecting my performance… At least, I really, really, really hope that’s what it is. It’s never overheated to the point where it completely shut down (like my ancient crappy Gateway laptop that I had in HS), but it does get HOT when I play GW2.
I run the Mac Beta client. I hate it, but I just don’t have the patience for a long Windows installation (lol).
you cpu is old enough that I should start worrying about thermal paste. Is it dry? is your cpu overheating? 4 years is quite a bit of time. You should fix that first because performance loss due to overheating is massive.
Adding an extra stick of ram should add framerates to the bandwidth starved iGPU. With IGPU is not about amount of ram but bandwidth. Your laptop should be dual channeled so you can take advantage of extra stick of ram. You can easily test this by using another laptop ddr3 ram into your to see if it increase framerates before you commit any money.
btw, your friends kinda suck
Thank you for your timely and polite response, you don’t know how much I appreciate it right now.
I haven’t checked, to be honest. The only time I’ve ever opened up the back of this thing was to dust it and that’s all. I’m a little scared to start removing things, but I know there are a lot of videos on YouTube that can give me lessons that will make it easier and will provide less of a chance that I screw up and break something. My laptop does get quite hot when I play.
It is dual-channeled. Initially after seeing that I was low on memory I assumed that that was the issue alone and all I needed to do was upgrade. I’ll have to pull a stick out of my mom’s barely-used laptop and see if that will help me out.
As for friends… All I can say to that is that it is often difficult being a girl on the Internet, especially in the gaming community, lol.
I’ve been playing GW2 for nearly two years now, and it’s been the most fun I’ve ever had in a video game. I played the demo of GW1 after being convinced by a friend, but it wasn’t for me. He convinced me to try GW2 with him, so he wouldn’t be playing alone, and even though he ended up hating it, I fell in love. I was handicapped from the start, though, as I played on a MacBook Pro (specs below). Even though my in-game friends all had anywhere from 60-120fps and I was stuck at 12 (on a good day), I didn’t care. I didn’t care that I had to play on lowest settings. I didn’t care that my loading screens took forever. All that mattered was that I was playing this game. I met great friends and wonderful people who have shaped not only my gaming experience, but myself as a person. GW2 has been an extremely positive force in my life.
But today, I feel like I’m being forced out of the game. I had logged on in the morning, business as usual, and everything was going fine until out of nowhere, I started having intense fps lag. At one point, my screen froze completely. I alt+tabbed out, and then back in, and my GW2 screen had gone black save for the cursor. I went into my Activity Monitor and saw that a process called kernel_task (which is essentially my OS) was using 700% of my CPU. I also found out that I’ve used up most of my RAM already. I restarted a few times and got the kernel_task process to calm down, and I restarted GW2 once more. Still low fps, but for the most part tolerable…until I got into a fractal. By that point I realized that my frames were just too low for me to be of any use to my party. I talked to a friend who understands a lot more about computers than I do, and he said that it likely wasn’t my RAM, but my CPU was on its last leg, and that’s just one thing that cannot be upgraded.
I can’t afford to buy a new computer anytime soon at ALL, and every time someone laughs at me and says, “HAHA YOU PLAY ON A MAC YOU kittenING LOSER HAHAHA” it really really frustrates and upsets me, because I didn’t buy this computer with the idea of gaming in mind; my parents bought it for me as a high school graduation present. GW2 was just a happy accident. All I can really afford to do is upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 8GB, but there’s not much I can do beyond that. It will honestly be a few years before I can afford a new computer.
Here are my specs:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011)
Processor: 2.4GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
I’m not posting some angry rant/departure letter, cursing ArenaNet as if they were the scum of the earth. I’m posting a really sad, “is-there-any-hope-left-for-me” letter before giving all of my non-bound possessions on my account to my boyfriend and saying goodbye to GW2 for the last time.
So is there any hope for me? Is there any hope that GW2 is still playable on my computer?

Bunny ears pls I will sell my soul
When are we going to see the bunny ears and (less importantly but still important) the aviators back in the gem store? I am willing to pay copious amounts of money for them. Like I’d probably spend 1000 gems each on them without even blinking.
Do I need to make a petition on change.org? Should I make a Kickstarter? Should I write a letter to President Obama? I will do all of these things and more in order to have access to these skins.
I stay up till 3am EST every night and check the gem store before bed and they’re never there. I need these skins. I need them. Pretty please.
Maybe you will see them after people like you post in the appropriate thread for things you would like to see in the gem store because thats where the people responsible for it are looking for feedback.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Suggestions-Gemstore-Items/page/37#post4761536
If you really think a new thread on a duplicate topic will generate more traction or in any way will accelerate the process of you having the opportunity to purchase those items (which it wont), at least make your topic title count and relevant towards your suggestion.
The chances of someone responsible for placing new or old items in the gem store rotation to actually open your thread based on your topic title are next to none.
Relax, killer. I DID look for the suggestions forum and didn’t see it at the time.
I do think some more serious appearances are in order, most of the existing weapons feel over the top, maybe some cool looking weapons that just look strait up deadly over glowing and effect heavy. Maybe make this more focused on personal and attack effects over glowing and movement? But I have been drawing up ideas for a great-sword that pulls heavily from a reaper’s scythe that could look pretty kitten cool in game. Maybe make attacks leave either black or green streaks with a black shadow that is kind of like the quip effect?
I mean… Twilight is already black. Just with red details and not green. A black and green greatsword would just feel terribly recycled.
No.

A relic and shards are not exactly nothing. Moreover, like Anet likes to say, the journey itself should be rewarding, not what’s after it.
That doesn’t matter.
It’s undeniable that the reward system in place for fotm is and has been utter crap for pretty much forever – worse since the fractal patch yet we haven’t had the issue addressed.
It’s pathetic to leave your playerbase waiting around this long with such an embarrassingly awful system like that in place.
Some of us really like fractals just because we find them enjoyable to do but it doesn’t make it any less insulting to get nothing as your daily reward.
I’ve had it happen to me dozens and dozens of times as well and while I’m obviously used to it, it still makes me shake my head with disappointment. Same with getting duplicate skins.
Thanks for being sympathetic. Sometimes I find that the forums are just full to the brim with negative people who want to shoot every kitten thing down. I’m glad that I’m not alone in how ridiculously annoying this is.
May I ask what this obsession with bunny ears is all about?
Uhm well I’m not a furry, lol… I just think they’re so cute! I play all female characters so I think they would look adorable. I never wear helms cause they tend to make my characters bald, so this is such a cute way to wear a helm and not be bald.
To defeat.. the Huns!
Aw, I was expecting people to break out into a Mulan song with the name of this thread..
That was most definitely not my goal

This is so embarrassing (lol) but traits! And builds! My first character was a thief and I didn’t know how many total traits I would get or how I should set them up so I tried to put an equal amount of trait points into each trait line. Omg I wish I had a time machine so I could go back in time 2 years and literally punch myself in the face.
I died all the time 24/7. I remember doing personal story and feeling so defeated that I couldn’t kill or do anything solo! I was constantly needing to call in guildies to help lol. And Orr was a NIGHTMARE. I was permanently stealthing and shadowstepping and like, going way out of my way to avoid fights.

Why are you so mad? Whether you get a ring, infused ring, frac wep, asc box or nothing, it’s all based on rng. No one who does fractals do them for the rewards, so if you don’t like doing 50’s then find something else to do. Just a heads up, if you’re depending on the expansion pack for more end game content, you’re probably going to be severely disappointed.
I don’t do them for the rewards. I do them because they are challenging and I enjoy doing them with my guildies. But when I get nothing to show for it, it makes me sour.
A relic and shards are not exactly nothing. Moreover, like Anet likes to say, the journey itself should be rewarding, not what’s after it.
I have a full stack of pristine relics in my bank. I have 3000 regular relics in my wallet (I’d have a lot more if I didn’t need skill points recently). I don’t use the shards for anything. So yeah, it’s nothing to me.
Every day I run:
AC all, CoF 1&2, CM 1&3, SE 1&3, CoE all, HotW 1. I will either do it with all guildies, all pugs, or a mix of both. Doesn’t really matter to me because I have zero qualms about kicking people who don’t know how to read LFG listings. I would rather a dungeon take longer because I’m waiting for a competent player to join my party rather than it take longer because I’m too nice to kick a non-80 person running non-meta gear who has never done the path before.
The only dungeon I refuse to pug is Arah, and unfortunately that doesn’t get done every day. When it does get done, my friends and I will do 1 and 3.
My tour is a bit lengthy. On days where I have to get to bed early or if we run more fractals than dungeons, we will generally cut it down to AC all (or 1&3), CoF 1, CoE 2&3, HotW 1.
I did a level 50 fractal with some friends today, and 4/5 of us got NOTHING from the end chest. NOTHING. A relic and empyreal shards. The fifth got an infused celestial ring. Whoop dee doo.
I’m not trying to come off like I’m demanding a precursor for every single drop I get. Please don’t misunderstand that. But for me, fractals are my end game. I run at LEAST a 50 every day, and I’ve gotten absolutely nothing more times than I can count. To get nothing is like a slap in the face. What the hell did I make this ascended armor for? What was the point of spending all that money?
While fractals are not personally difficult for my friends and I, they are certainly more difficult than your average dungeon. And my friends and I spent all that time for nothing. I would be happier with a crappy ring that I’m just going to sell to a vendor than with NOTHING. I get better kitten from Ascalonian Catacombs than I do from a level 50 fractal.
I’ve about had it with running 50s. It’s just not even worth it anymore. And since fractals are my endgame, if I stop running 50s then I might as well just stop playing and wait for the expac. :/
Precursors you can work towards by saving gold. I’ve done it once myself. But don’t forget teq hoard. I ran teq a ridiculous amount of times. I would say far more than my gw2 friends, yet they hav teq hoard and i dont. I also once upon a time suffered through fractal rng by trying well over 500+ fractals for the greatsword which i never got. I now quit fractals, gave up that goal and have 2 legendaries. So yea i stay far clear of account rng stuff now. Only running teq for the karma XD
kitten the Teq hoard, and kitten RNG. I know someone who got three hoards in the span of a week or a month I think? I know someone who got 6 precursors in the span of 6 months. I mean, how is that “random”? How is that balanced? I’ve been playing for nearly two years, logged nearly 5000 hours, never got a Teq hoard or a pre. The most expensive drop I’ve ever gotten was worth 67g, and I know that that’s considered LUCKY compared to some other people’s drops.
I just ran a 50 with friends just now and FOUR of us got absolutely kittening NOTHING. The fifth got an infused celestial ring. I think getting NOTHING in 50s is a b s o l u t e BS. You should at least get SOMETHING. I would take a crappy ring over nothing any day of the week. When I run 50s and get nothing, it makes me question why I spent all that money on ascended armor to begin with. My entire playing experience does NOT revolve exclusively around getting great loot for every single drop, but I cannot even begin to express how frustrating it is to see the same blue and green loot drop over and over again. It’s even worse when you finish a 50 and see … Nothing.
I have 8 skins and only one multiple. So I suppose I’m lucky on that front. But I hardly ever get them at 50s. I get better stuff doing 20s, 39s, 40s than I do 50s, honestly. I’m starting to honestly think maybe I should just forgo doing 50s and stick to the mid-level ones from now on.
Did them VERY casually up until recently. I’d say about two months ago I started really doing them intensely and now I run 50s every day. I have 8 fractal skins.
Torch (2), Staff, Focus, Sword, Dagger, Spear, Axe, and Pistol.
I’d really like the scepter, but I’d also be happy if I got the longbow.
I’m dcing every few minutes. It’s not my Internet connection, as I am typing this forum post out and will be posting it with no issue… So I am assuming it’s client side. This is my third disconnect today. Ever since the most recent patch I have been getting more and more disconnects when I generally wouldn’t disconnect very often before.
I’m happy to see this. I’ve been reporting people for this because I assumed it was against the rules, but it’s nice to see confirmation. Thank you!
Yeah, exactly. The bully/troll will move on to victimize someone else. The bully/troll does not stop their behavior.
I’m sorry but I’m not someone who can “just ignore it” when I get a PM telling me “go kill myself.” Call me a kitten, call me a care bear, I honestly don’t care. That kind of stuff really upsets me for very personal reasons, and I know for a fact that it upsets a lot of other people, too. Why should we get shoved off to the side to protect egomaniacs who get their rocks off on hurting others?
i honestly feel bad for your generation (im not being mean in any sense), you guys/gals were not taught how to cope or deal with bullies.
and i agree with you that the behavior is bad and should be dealt with. but thats why you report them and ignore them otherwise. if enough people report an individual then the devs should take action.also i know this is lame as hell but really it is true on so many levels.
“sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.”
especially when they are typed words from someone who knows absolutely nothing about you.I must have missed where this person said how old they were (sarcasm), but this isn’t an issue of people not being able to tolerate bullying. This is an issue of people willing to stand up and speak against it.
Blame my generation (if you can even guess it), but my ability to tolerate bullying has no relevance on my understanding that it’s still a crappy thing to do.
So please, blame the bully, not the victim.
@ People saying “The community is worse in X and Y game”: This is a pretty meaningless and irrelevant argument. If I see someone bludgeon a baby to death in the street, does it suddenly make it acceptable to break someone’s leg?
GW2 does have a better community than many other games out there, but that doesn’t suddenly justify the minority of players that still treat it like 4Chan.
Basically all of this.
Yes I realize that now after the fact and I have edited my post.
^ wow dude calm down.
maybe the problem isn’t just bullies and trolls but your own super over reactive victim behavior. neither one is good for the community or your health.
Overly sensitive would be calling for a perma ban for everyone who said even the slightest not-nice thing about someone. I’m not asking for a perma ban or even ANY type of disciplinary action being taken against someone who says “lol noob” to someone. I’m asking for the people who have said things like “go kill yourself” and other similar sentiments. If you think someone is a noob, fine whatever, don’t play with them then and be the bigger person and keep your mouth shut! Or how about this crazy thought, maybe help them become better? But if you’re going to tell me or anyone else for that matter to take their own life and not think twice before you hit ‘enter’ that what you’re doing is wrong then you sincerely need to be put in time out to cool off and maybe use your head a little bit better.
devs do take action towards inappropiate names, actually sometimes they change names that are 100% fine by 99% people’s standard but i digress.
it’s not like “trolling became ok” it’s more about the fact you can’t really do anything about it, just block the person involved and report them for inappropiate name / verbal abuse / spamming whatever seems more appropiate (the report function is a bit limited)
anything else is just feeding the troll, if i was one id be having a world of fun reading this thread and possibly go troll someone in hotm, just saying.
tl:dr: trolls sucks, but anything more than block+report is going to make them troll more
Inappropriate character names get changed, but why aren’t the people who are being inappropriate in chat getting reprimanded? The report functions are limited, and the amount of discipline taken against heavy offenders is, too…
Really? You don’t even know how old I am. So how can you make broad, sweeping generalizations about me and my ~generation~ without knowing a thing about me?
Anonymity. Lack of empathy. Me me me. Now now now.
What sort of empathy am I expected to have in this situation other than for the people who have been told some pretty horrible stuff in map, team, and private chats roflmao
Me me me? Again.. I’m not speaking exclusively for myself. I’m speaking on behalf of yes, myself, but for others who’ve been bullied (which sounds juvenile but for lack of a better word I’m gonna use it) pretty mercilessly.
Now now now? Yes, now. Because why wait to improve something and make the community better as a whole?

Really? You don’t even know how old I am. So how can you make broad, sweeping generalizations about me and my ~generation~ without knowing a thing about me? You’re not taking into account that a lot of people are bullied in “real life” and they play video games to escape it. I am assuming that you don’t know what that feels like, to go to school or work and be bullied, and then to come home and play this game that you really enjoy, only to experience it there, too. It is a really terrible feeling and no one should experience it. Y’all really go way out of your way to defend problematic behavior. “This is the Internet, it’s just a video game” but there are real people behind these computer screens who are being told these horrible things. Just because this is the ~Internet~ doesn’t mean that we’re all robots. Good grief!
The devs are not taking action!! That is the issue. I’ve been told twice in the past week by two different, inflammatory players that they’ve been reported numerous times and they’ve never been disciplined. I have screenshots if you don’t believe me. One said, “if I had a silver for every time I’ve been reported, I’d be the richest person in the game.” People are bragging about the fact that they can run around and act this way and they aren’t seeing any repercussions for it.
plus, if you dont like the chat convo dont read it….
You do realize this is a lot easier said than done, right…?
I understand that we’re talking specifically about map chat nonsense, but sometimes it gets taken way too far and sometimes it gets taken to PMs, too. I watched someone troll an entire HotM map for literally HOURS a few nights ago. Every time I came back from a match they were still there, still babbling, and people were just feeding them and adding fuel to the fire. There is a point when enough is enough.
its really really easy actually. if youre drawn to drama i could see it being difficult though. the only time i read chat is in a match or party. dont care otherwise.
and in this day and age if people still cant learn not to feed a troll then i really dont care if they are not enjoying themselves. block him, ignore what he writes, etc, its easy. like any bully/troll if they are not getting the attention they so desperately seek they will move on to another venue to get it. its that simple.
Yeah, exactly. The bully/troll will move on to victimize someone else. The bully/troll does not stop their behavior.

If you PvP, set you status to invisible and enjoy not getting whispers. If it is a specific person use Block.
The tools are there, not using them isn’t a valid complaint.
Going invisible means that I cannot participate in guild chat, and I cannot PM friends who are not in my PvP party. It also means that potential people on my friends list who want to group up can’t ask or reply to me if I ask them, and it means that people in previous matches (if I have a partial team) cannot ask me to group up. I am not going to switch to invisible when I enter a match and then go back online when I get out of a match and I’m waiting in queue to talk in gchat and PM my friends. “Hold on guys, stop the convo right here, I’m gonna start a match now, gotta go invis.” That is ridiculous.
Going invisible isn’t a be-all, end-all solution. As I’ve said maybe a hundred times now, blocking people is not enough. It does not stop people from being inflammatory! It does not punish people! I think I’ve said this a hundred times now. Am I not speaking English or something?
60-70 games. I’ve only played 2 skyhams.
It’s 2 skyhams too much.
Fear the skyham.
plus, if you dont like the chat convo dont read it….

If you can solo beasts quick enough without anyone coming to steal, you’re golden. I can solo them quickly on a dps meditation guardian and a dps power ranger, just to name two classes that it’s fairly easy on.
I usually point out in team chat that I can solo if everyone else wants to go straight mid and then I’ll meet up with them when I’m done, but occasionally I have an extra person or two who sticks around to help out, getting the job done even quicker.
I believe Ranked Arena refuses to put you with lower-skilled players now.
So apparently there are not enough skilled players in Ranked right now to find a real match for you.
The other day I had two players with (and I hate to bash on people for this) less than 500 achievement points on my team. They were very clearly new players with little idea with what to do and I’m in the r70s at the moment, so the system is not perfect. Hopefully we’ll see improvements in the near future.
-
Queues yesterday were sometimes long for ranked matches so my team switched to unranked matches where they were considerably better, I’m on NA if that helps. I PvP’d pretty much all day yesterday so it flip flopped. I guess it does kinda suck that solo players can get matched up against full guild/group teams, but I used to do team queue by myself a lot with the old system. It helped me meet a lot of friends and often times I’d group up with partial teams! I still PvP with a lot of these people to this day
I enjoy the new system but it does have its faults; it’s new so most likely it’s not final, there will be little changes here and there to improve it. I like having a little freedom in picking maps, I like the new UI, and I like not having to submit rosters anymore (lol).
Blocking people stops you personally from seeing what someone is saying, but it doesn’t stop that person from spouting off nonsense.
GW2 is a tamer community than LoL or PoE and even WoW in a lot of cases, but that doesn’t mean that when people get out of hand we should just block them. Blocking them doesn’t remove the toxicity from the community, it just shields a few players from it.
This also seems pretty fair for the initial infraction. Suspension would definitely be the right move after multiple infractions.
The problem is, trolls flock to PvP as they know that the heightened tension amongst players is easy pickings for them. Would they care about the dishonour, do you think? Is a suspension from PvP/permaban from PvP a bit more weighty and substantial- would this sort of punishment be a preventative method too? Would they just move their trolling to somewhere else in game? (I realise that even though I ask this, trolling is very difficult to prevent in the game as a whole and my own solution probably doesn’t cover trolling prevention either).
But on the other hand, dishonour could be considered a tame punishment for some of the things that I’ve seen said to other players… PvP or not, it’s still verbal abuse/harassment and should be treated as such, no?
Well, I have some doubts that they would move their trolling to other aspects of the game. I know of players who exclusively PvP and I think that if these types of players were placed on a no-PvP suspension they would probably just log out and go do something else or play another game. I think some of them would do other things in-game but they probably would not do too much trolling of a personal nature (like telling people to kill themselves) simply because there really isn’t much of a competitive nature outside of PvP (excluding WvW), and that competitiveness is what brings about these high tensions. If they honestly want to bring their trolling to other aspects of the game then they’re running the risk of being reported AGAIN for misconduct and thus earning themselves a longer/harsher punishment, maybe even a permanent one if it really is necessary.
Dishonor is absolutely a tame punishment for first-time or tamer infractions. Suspension/banning is also fair for multiple infractions. I don’t think anyone here is saying that if you say something not nice to someone out of anger once, you should have your entire account stripped from you. There should be a fair system of punishments.
The Guild Wars 2 community is quite tame compared to some other gaming communities (World of Warcraft, League of Legends to name just two), but there are still bad eggs here and there, and they should be dealt with instead of letting them get swept under the rug. Incidentally, last night I had someone (a pug) intentionally afk in a match because we fell behind in the first MINUTE of the game and I asked in map chat that the other team report them and surprise, surprise, they said, “if I had a silver for every time I’ve been reported, I’d be the richest person in game.” People are actually proud of how many times they have been reported with no action taken against them. It’s just absurd!
Long post is long, my apologies.
A little part of me cringes whenever I read somebody says “just ignore/block them”, “get over it”, “stop being a kitten” etc. I can’t help but think that these people are defending/excusing poor behaviour.
I’d totally understand “just ignore them” it if this was a very occassional problem, but most players know that PvP is riddled with awful language and behaviour. It puts a lot of people off PvP and it’s a shame.
Telling someone to “Go kill yourself” is absolutely terrible and shouldn’t be allowed, no matter if the receiver is “thick-skinned” or not. Just a couple of people throwing around insults in a match leaves a sour taste in most peoples’ mouths and ruins the ambience and fun (unless you enjoy people verbally attacking each other…)
Anyway, just blocking/not reporting these people just lets them get away with behaviour that we all would rather not see or be subjected to. A lot of them probably feel they are untouchable either because they aren’t being reported, or the report system is flawed (or, perhaps they are lying about being reported and not being punished just for added venom).
For poor behaviour like this, I definitely think they should be resonably punished, from a 3 day suspension or a permaban. However, I think what would be more fitting would be for people reported in PvP to be specifically banned from PvP as a lot of this behaviour is brought on by competitive play and hormones (these offenders are probably OK in PvE).
God bless this response!!
….you dont have the capacity to click block and never have to talk to them again??? online prolly isnt for you
Oh my god how many times do I need to explain to you that blocking is not enough until you get it into your head???? Even after someone is blocked what was said to them can still affect them!!! Everything doesn’t just become magically okay just cause someone was blocked. Because the person that was blocked is going to keep doing it to others.

He also forgot " you should stay in pve then" and “welcome to the internet”. lol what do you want a perminant ban for insulting someone else? Where you want to admit it or not at some point youve been guilty oh the same crime.
No, but a day or two off to cool tempers would be appropriate and maybe then people would think twice before insulting others.
Also you assume a great deal without even knowing me.The thing is this is a very gray area since its really depenedant on the person being insulted. It can range from thick skin people like me who you could me any and every name in the book while i sit there laughing because frankly sir, I just dont give a Van kitten to people like the op who get offended by being called a pver even when it wasn’t even directed at them.
Its also includes snappy remarks such as the the op’s remark
Some people get offended and some don’t. But not everyone has the capacity to ignore it, and for some people hearing really mean stuff can be really hurtful. The people who are taking things too far need to be punished.
It’s honestly not that difficult to be nice and it makes you feel happy and it makes the other person feel happy too lol. Like there are zero downsides to it.
I have a simple rule for civility on the net. If you aren’t willing to say those things to someone’s face in the real world, then don’t say it in the virtual.
Is that so hard?
Apparently!

Preach it!
Wow y’all will REALLY go out of your way to defend your desire to be a prick to others lol.
well for starters since the rank change 20k per a level it isn’t even a challange to get to 60’s. As well as what pvper brags about about a silly rank when truth is you could of been carried the majority of the time.
Omg I could be rank 80 and you’d probably be like, “well it’s like not even that hard to get to rank 80 I mean you could have been carried!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Is my opinion not valid because I’m not the absolute #1 best player NA/EU/CH? Give me a break. I NEVER intended to use my rank as a bragging point and if you didn’t catch that then idk, maybe a reading comprehension class is in order. I was using my rank as a way to show that I’m not some PvEr or new player coming out of the woodwork with no idea about what I’m talking about. This ain’t my first rodeo.
You reap what you sow, Life doesnt stop and start at your convience. If they are talking in map, turn off map, in say chat turn off say chat, if whisper block them. From exprience you should already know they get a kick out of getting you upset.
I reap what I sow, huh? So my team losing a match in a fictional video game means that I deserve to be told to kill myself? What kind of universe are you living in?
How is this ‘at my convenience?’ I am literally asking for discipline to be taken upon people who are problematic. I’m not asking for special treatment, I’m not asking for free things, I’m not asking for restitution. I am asking for stricter rules when it comes to people who are repeat offenders when it comes to being excessively rude, both in PMs and in public chats.
I’d say it’s at THEIR convenience to let them continue being rude without repercussions. Why should I have to turn /m off? What if I want to participate in map chat discussions? My gaming experience is being hampered because of someone else’s rudeness.
If you’d go back and read my original post I already told you that I block them. But blocking is not enough, because they’re going to still do it. If not to me, then to other people. Blocking people is not SOLVING THE PROBLEM. It’s just making it go away for one person. It’s not going to stop the offender from offending.

inb4 everyone tells me to “get over it” and to stop being a kitten & people telling me “don’t PvP then.” Can’t wait to hear those.
and don’t forget “get a thicker skin”, “it’s just smack-talk” and “it’s normal on the internet”. Some people are very fierce in defending their “right” to insult others. It is a very bad attitude in a team game imo.
And I agree with everything you said. I have made the same experiences. Nobody ever gets punished for insults or afk-ing.He also forgot " you should stay in pve then" and “welcome to the internet”. lol what do you want a perminant ban for insulting someone else? People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones
Why do you assume that I’m some PvEr who just stepped into PvP yesterday? I’m rank 68 at the moment and I would probably already be maxed out if I had started to PvP earlier in my GW2 career. If you need proof of that I’d be happy to provide some.
I will confess I used to be a huge trash talker in PvP but I’ve almost full-stopped, now the only time I say anything is when people on my own team (pugs) bully my teammates/friends or start acting like pompous know-it-all brats. People log onto GW2 to have fun and de-stress and to get away from real life. I know that’s why I play. Who am I to try and take that away from people? Why would I ever want to hurt someone or make them feel upset when they’re just trying to have a good time?
Maybe some sort of consequence would discourage kittenty behavior. If you’re going to act like a little child who throws a temper tantrum and you get reported for it, then maybe you should go sit in time out like a little child. And honestly? If you’re a repeat offender maybe you SHOULD get a permanent ban. Take out the garbage and PvP will be more enjoyable for everyone.
Offense is taken, not given. The “bullies” win only when you let them win.
Your guild mates should probably grow a thicker skin for PvP (relative to what they see in open world PvE) as they will—and should expect to—get called out for messing up. They should not expect to be shielded from being told they screwed up, although they certainly should expect not to be told in an excessively abusive fashion.
PS: Despite all of the above, I would absolutely still be the first in line to support any move that would prevent people on your block list from being put on your team (though not the opposing team) in PvP.
Pointing out a mistake someone made is entirely different from actually being bullied, which is what a LOT of people do. There’s a difference between “why did you go to far point alone when there were two people on it” and PMing someone telling them to kill themselves because they want to blame you for the match you both just lost. One of them is acceptable and the other one isn’t, and if you can’t figure out which is which then I am honestly frightened.
Telling people who are victims of it to “grow thicker skin” does not solve the problem at all.

I’m convinced that they must be compensating for something.
Pleeeeeeeeeaaaasssssseeee give us the option to buy the bunny ears again. PLEASE I need them
I guess I’m just a massive care bear but I’m just not cool with a lot of the trash-talking that goes on (in this case) in PvP.
I don’t care if someone complains because me and a teammate 2v1’d them or whatever. That’s not what I’m talking about.
I’m talking about, just as an example, the person who PM’d me spamming me calling me a coward and who told me to “kill myself” because I’m being blamed for the game that we lost. I have screenshots in case anyone wants to say it’s my word against theirs. That’s just unacceptable to me. That’s taking playful rival banter to a whole new level.
Or the person who intentionally went afk after the enemy team maintained a small lead against us who said, “go ahead and report me, I’ve been reported hundreds of times but I’ve never been banned.”
Of course I block and report these people but they’re still always online and always in HotM trolling people in map chat and just being an kitten in general. Why don’t these people ever suffer any sort of consequence for it? It’s not fair that people can just run around telling others to end their lives with no repercussions attached to it.

I wouldn’t say “troll.” But “they” is plural. Rytlock is not a “they.” I think the ANet writers generally don’t flub grammar that badly.
‘They’ can be used singularly, too. It’s not just plural.
While I was doing the LS I noticed that Caithe was following me as I moved through Camp Resolve. I tried to interact with her before being prompted to by the story, and her ambient dialogue was like, “don’t mind me” or something to that effect. I thought it was super fishy. I had a feeling for a whiiiile now that Caithe shouldn’t be trusted. Lo and behold lol…
I would have been less weirded out if she followed me more closely. Cause then it would have seemed like we were moving together. But she kept her distance, and when I interacted with her no dialog box popped up, just her saying “don’t mind me.”
I used a sword/focus & scepter/focus guardian and had very little trouble. I think I downed twice and full died twice because I had poor dodge management (I rebound my dodge key, so I blame that lol). I run the zerk meta. If you have the means, you could try that out and see if that makes things easier. Later on I will be doing it again on my glass elementalist and my zerker warrior to see how those fair. I imagine that warrior won’t trouble me but ele might.
Do not do the maze while under the influence. That’s all I have to suggest.
Marjory looked like a total babe this patch.
Cause that’s the most important thing, right?
To me, she looked like she is way younger than I thought she is. She looked like she is barely 17. Well, at least that fits her teenager-like behaviour.
Um, I never said it was the most important thing. But y’know. Whatever.
I think her face showed expression and emotion and that was awesome. I think cutscenes like that one convey emotions much better than hitting ‘F’ to interact and reading some dialogue.
What is so wrong with me pointing out that she looked good?
