That’s odd… I’m using the Heirloom skin for heavy armor. I don’t hear it. Anyone else?

Hmm I think they changed it? I remember it being more “metallic-ky”.

I remember there used to be an armor sound effect when you jump and land or dodge roll in heavy armor. Why was it removed? I hear the cloth SFX on my Necro and I really think it’s weird that it’s absent on my Warrior.

Now I know there were some complaints. Was it removed because of it?

Can’t we keep that an option in our Sound panel?

As a Cleric-geared Shout Warrior, I keep glass cannons up and buff their DPS via bosons and conditions in PvE. In WvW I push the battle lines forward, play decoy, and rez downed allies even when focused.

You accomplish a lot through others. It’s not useless at all. If I solo a GS is enough.

Hopefully you have the wisdom to see that if you weren’t insecure about Legendaries in the first place you wouldn’t feel so bitter. Yep, some people in real life have it easy because they are born in a rich family. Uh oh, God got it all wrong now, gosh darn it He better fix it now OR ELSE.

The problem isn’t the game, it problem is that you want a Legendary too and you had to work for it, trading post or no. Legendaries is healthy for the game. Think of the big picture please.

The math seems made up and I think you’re exaggerating.

It’s not an exaggeration when stuff dies 3 times slower.

I’m a support Warrior, built tanky.

I stack defensive stats, but I ramp up party DPS by:

1) For Great Justice (Infinite Mightx3)
2) On My Mark (Vulnerability x 10)
3) I encourage AI to attack me more by taking traits/utililities to increase my Toughness

And most importantly:
3) I’m able to keep mobs on one spot without “panic rolling” like most glass or DPS. This means: EZ mode DPS via AoE. Stuff running all over the place and there is just absolute chaos. (Champion Defiance makes CC harder, so a tanky guy is required.)

Same thing any glass can do, maybe except 3, but a gc thief with pistol in offhand can tank better than you. What gives you 1s stun? You might interrupt 1 skill by wasting 6 of yours. It’s better just to press dodge or use one of many defensive skills.

On top of this, my guildies (from WoW, FF11 days) know how to further increase DPS/keeping me alive via combo fields <— highly underrated aspect of GW2 PvE, IMO).

So:
4) Consistent Combos.

Because someone with zerker’s geat can’t do it, right?

They can’t take more than a hit or two before having to panic roll or get the heck out. And as they are trying to run etc? The DPS is usually absent. And they can’t hold the boss well in one place. This means you can’t really do 4) better. We are not arguing whether or not someone can, but Tanky builds allow more Combo fields at the boss.

What nonsense re: stuff dying 3 times slower. As the guild leader I wouldn’t pull the team down if I saw that my build was dragging run speeds down. Have you honestly even tried a balanced team in the first place?

I’m keen to watch you tank in Zerker gear. Honestly, I just don’t buy it. Sorry. And if you’re gonna be snarky, we can just agree to disagree. Nothing wrong with GC, but there is a place for ALL builds, and support style builds accomplish a lot through the rest of the party. You are losing that perspective.

I’m asking you this: don’t you think it’s better for the whole game, for the community, if we can discover the depth of the gameplay? You are convinced that a bunch of GCs armed with dodges is enough. I’m not arguing that. But have you seen what a balanced polished team can do? In my experience, they can run dungeons better, faster, and safer.

To say that there is no place for tanky or healy support builds is myopic.

In all of my life, I have not disagreed with a post more than I do with the OP of this thread. The OP’s entire post can be summed into 4 words: “This is not WoW”. And somehow he goes on to make this sound like it is a bad thing.

No, it’s not WoW. It is solo friendly. BiS endgame gear used to be easy to get, but now you’ve gotten your wish and there’s a gear treadmill so enjoy that… And finally more Guild based stuff is on the way.

But I really don’t get it. You have how many other gear grinders out there? Why in the world do you people keep coming to the successor of the wildly successful Guild Wars 1 and keep trying to demand it do everything WoW did and nothing GW1 did? It boggles my mind.

3. We are missing engame challenges, raids AND the grind for better loot.
Yes yes, I/we know. GW2 is a mmo where endgame gear stats are capped for all, and easy to get to. Its all about finding better looking gear, and stand out in the crowd..
- That is just fine, if Arenanet want GW2 to loose players all the time from boredom.

Guild Wars 1 did just fine without that. More than just fine.

The simple answer?
Because they don’t want GW2. Even if they do not realise it, they want another WoW, just in a different setting as they want to re-experience their “first love”. So they try to change this new relationship in what was once their love.
Like in real relationships this will not end well, because either you accept the new partner the way he/she is, or you will live a lie.

Get over it, get over it.

What Kaiyan said! The ones who leave are the ones who wanted a WoW in the first place. My guild fractured a little when the lootchasers left. The rest of us are still here, enjoying the game. I have map completion and a legendary, and I’m still discovering cool little NPC dialogues and secret caves and whatnot in the GW2 world.

OP I hope you find another MMO to sink your teeth into. I don’t want GW2 to become a “true” MMO. Please, just, no!

Now, I’m fed up with players stacking defensive stats, lowering their dps 3 times. Stuff gets killed so slow you can alt-tab and read something. And then those people complain about tediousness of the current design.

The math seems made up and I think you’re exaggerating.

I’m a support Warrior, built tanky.

I stack defensive stats, but I ramp up party DPS by:

1) For Great Justice (Infinite Mightx3)

Encounters in dungeons are more or less designed to work without much coordination, but to those who state “lol no such thing as tanks and healers” or “it’s a zerg fest” probably have yet to see the beauty of an extremely coordinated PvE dungeon team.

Our typical team:

Tank/control/heal/buff
Heal/support/buff
DPS/combo field/control
DPS/combo field/buff
DPS/control/debuff

This is by no means a trinity wannabe group of people, we love and embrace the new philosophy, but I just wanted to share my experience in GW2.

I’m not preaching my style of playing GW2 PvE, but to say that the game “is a zergfest so just go glass” is kinda shallow.

Condition War ?

I suppose there is a place for condition Warriors in that they are pressure-type builds. I’m guessing that such builds are meant to harrass and “force out” cooldowns and heals (so that others can finish them off). (Stun builds force out stunbreakers and dodge.) IIRC, Flurry was nerfed in terms of frontload damage and compensated in terms of bleed a while back; one of the developers said that the grand plan for condition Warriors is pressure/pester tactics, combined with mobility.

I don’t think they are too weak, though I personally find that disabling build (stun/KD) have more impact. I actually think the other professions will continue to be balanced down to Warrior pressure, whether by increasing the fragility of such condition “burst” specs, or other methods to bring them more in line with Warriors.

Have fun!

As I understand, the OP doesn’t have a problem with the PvP in the JP, but with the siege equipment.

And that part I understand, it’s kinda like bringing a gun to a knife fight. A bit overkill, and thus kills the fun.

I would certainly agree to make the JP siege free, there are already enough tools provided to make your opponents miserable. And as a nice side effect it doesn’t block siege equipment in the “real” battlefield.

But it’s not a knife fight in the first place. It’s a gun fight. You can put up your siege equipment too.

Don’t be too harsh. The OP probably doesn’t ever PvP and is not used to such hostile tactics in PvP. OP I suggest you try not to presume jumping puzzles a PvE domain activity. Might help you get some perspective. It certainly sucks to be at the business end of it.

Warrior tank, To be or not to be?

in Warrior

Posted by: molepunch.5673

molepunch.5673

Yea i’ve done groups with more tanky setups. I have even ran tanky setups myself.

It’s noticeably more difficult. It’s not very noticeable in the easier dungeons, but very noticeable in Arah. The tankiness is not enough to save you, and enemies take longer to kill. All the hardest PvE challenges in this game are currently a matter of dodging and/or killing the enemy before you mess up.

Currently, tanky builds get LESS useful as the difficulty progresses. This may be the case in the new dungeon too.

That said, i do greatly appreciate certain support builds. For example, Guardians can give perma protection without sacrificing much damage, and elementalists can give perma protection, fury, and swiftness with an aura build.

Hmm, can’t really say that I agree. A good tank (in GW2 terms, not WoW) can allow EZ AoE hotspots and combo points. We’re not talking about pure facetanking for 20 seconds, of course, but it’s a huge chaotic mess of running and dodging around like crazy otherwise. That’s my own experience. Anyone else have anything to add to this?

What weapon has most synergy with Warhorn?

in Warrior

Sword for more mobility and Axe for dps. I suggest sword because engaging and disengaging is completely in your control. Be sure to trait Warhorn if you haven’t. Warhorn is a support weapon and I think Sword compelements well because you can help chase down, snare opponents defensively or offensively, or get to where your team needs you faster.

Toughness gear comes with power anyway so please don’t presume said dps of a tanky build as terrible. In fact, I allow EZ AoE and combo hotspots; FGJ and OMM enable even more team dps. If I “needed” more dps I use a sharpening stone.

Never had a complaint about my build during speed clears whatsoever.

The 30hp/s is bleah but I do like the toughness value the Dolyak rune line provides. I can already use traited Warhorn so the loss of Soldier’s 6/6 isn’t too bad. The regen is better for set-ups that stack toughness I think?
