well if pretty much any build is considered cheese, I declare my build the “Sharp bacon cheddar eliminator”
SOMEBODy….keeps telling me it can do 10k lol…..so many haters but nobody really knows much about this. i dont htink it needed to be touched
Seriously 10k? Lol I think the most I ever got out of mug was near 5k and that was when I popped my signet and had my food buffs up. I personally use mug not for the raw damage but for the utility it brings. It makes it a little bit easier when I’m D/D to apply basilisk venom to someone to get in a quick backstab.
You can Mug an ambient for 30K :P
leave those rabbits alone! >:T
I mean… I love the cheese… its no bacon, but its still really good…
Some cheese stinks… just saying…
Gouda lover! >:T
Meh I simply just let them cry and complain. Their tears fuel my existence in this realm anyway.
Yeah let’s get one thing straight::…..Sharp cheddar is superior!
As a thief, I feel bad for the D/D ele as well. It wasn’t hard to fight one of you as it was just challenging. I only hope that ANET doesn’t just nerf your D/D spec and also buffs other specs like focus and staff.
ya, just like the active of infiltrator’s signet.
While we here, can we give shadowshot a followup skill like flanking strike to steal boons? Trigger only when shadowshot lands mayhaps?
This would encourage people to use the followup instead of backstab even when they activated shadowshot from stealth, and maybe quiet down some the complains about getting bs from closer?
Well either way people will complain about that because shadowshot does already three things. It blinds and it’s a 900 yard teleport followed by a strike. Adding a mechanic to strip boons will make it a bit overpowered IMHO.
Gotta love those guilds that will chase 10 people around a map with 40+
Ok, that just earned you a +1 and a bag of dorritos from me.

They did say that they had an idea of making it a Shadowstep with a target or not, although I have no idea how that will be implemented.
Simple, if you have noone targeted and activate steal it’ll just shift you 1,200 yards in the direction you are facing.
I’m also having an issue. Just this morning I tried paying for gems with my saved credit card and low and behold I get a message stating “please confirm your identity” when attempting to purchase gems. I’ve purchased gems before and haven’t had a problem.

Thats a broad line you moderators have Martin, your asusmption that your change was warranted, it was not, that was your opinion on the OP’s opinion.
As an FYI for you Martin and whatever you thought you were doing in your own mind, every post in these forums is a personal opinion. You were totally in the wrong for singling this person out because you could, not because you should have.
You are a fine example of spite Martin, this isnt a call out, you were wrong, plain and simple and you need to make a retraction and apologize to the OP, regardless of what you think Martin. You need to know your role as a moderator and not the spiteful employee, or you will be spending the next ten years adding “personal opinion” to every post title on this gaming site.
In my 3 decades as an NCO and a professional i have never seen anyone like you blatantly do something like this and then try to substantiate it. I have already sent a copy to your corporate before you “delete this because you can”.
You moderators need to know your roles and re-read your own TOS. Without negative feedback a business becomes complacent, many businesses leave negative feedback for learning purpose, they do not modify it to suit there own needs or attack an individual as you did.
My personal opinion, you screwed up Martin and now you need to fix it. I have already sent a copy to your corporate before you “delete this because you can”.
Yep, that gets a +1 from me.
Not rerolling either, however I will be taking a break from the game until this issues are resolved. I very much enjoy the engineer class, it felt like a class that had the most utility. I thought it would be a class that could help fill many roles without being the BEST, a “jack of all trades” if you will. However it seems ANET has little love for this profession and proved it by nerfing one of the only viable builds in PVP. I have a warrior but honestly, he is very…very..boring. I have a necromancer but I’m sure you all know about how badly they got screwed in this patch as well. I would roll a mesmer but honestly I was terrible with them in GW1 and I don’t feel like head banging my keyboard in frustration all over again lol. I’ll instead resign myself to playing XCOM and TF2, at least with those games I can honestly say if I loose a match it’s because I SUCK and not because my class or game is unbalanced or bugged to hell.
This is somewhat depressing actually. Makes you wonder if Anet was just simply trolling us with the promises only to back hand us on patch day and say “U MAD?!”
I’ve given them more than enough time and chances after months of issues with both the engineer and Necromancer class. Now, after this joke of a patch, I can honestly say that their chances are used up. There will be no more gem purchases from me. There will be no more logging into the game to play. After finding out they only have TWO developers working on the class balances, I had to take a moment to ponder if Anet even realizes how unintelligent that is. Then I finally realized, Anet is just a buisness focused on getting the most profit they can in the shortest amount of time. Oh well, at least I still have XCOM and TF2 to enjoy.
I’m just beyond annoyed that Anet allowed it to go on this long. It’s not just this bug but the kitten story bug in “The stone Sheath”. I have two characters that can’t continue their story line and have waited for a little over a month for a kitten fix. The only thing I dread is that I KNOW there’s going to be yet another bug further down the line in story missions and can’t wait to see how long they take to fix THAT one.
Well until this is resolved I’ve decided to set the game off to the back burner for a while. Yes I’ve done the other things as suggested, from PVP to map exploration, to dynamic events. However, It feels odd to continue leveling up and just attempting to pass my time on a game when it’s half of the content in my opinion is kept from me just because QA has been sitting on the patch now for almost a month doing nothing. Now it seems we have to wait till the 15th for this patch to even go live. Of course I’d understand a little bit more if the patch wasn’t finished. However Jeff, you’ve yourself said the patch is finished and has been with QA almost immediately after the bug was reported.
Even though i hace a higher level character since i was not into the story, i ended up with the same situation. . .and now that I read its been a while since mission has been having this problem preventing people from continuing their story soooooo how long do we have to wait ??? So that I dont keep wasting my time playing?! also my friend got his account hacked. . . .he didnt even authorized the IP from where they were trying to gain access and still happened!!! Sooo how secure is arena net?!
Well most likely you’re going to have to wait till 11/15/2012 since that is when the next content update comes out. I’ve already stopped playing till then as honestly it feels “wrong” to try and level up without advancing my story.
Sorry Jeffrey, I personally can’t believe you, since that post there have been four content updates more than one of which fixed personal story or core game bugs. The 1st, the 30th the 24th and the 22ed.
However maybe your words will be poetic … it seems a new build will be released in one hour, will this be the next build that this fix will be on or will it be yet another “Mistake”?
Yeah well you wanna know what the patch today did? All it did was fix the drop rate of random dyes…….yep…..talk about a major priority!
that’s it?! are you kidding me?! that’s the patch for the fifth?! You just worked on the dye drop rate?!
While I do have a lot of patience, waiting for what seems like now OVER a month is total bull kitten. I can understand the need to take time to fully test a patch before it’s to be implemented into a live game. I CAN’T understand then how ANET puts out holiday content and is so quick to respond in patching it. I still think this patch hasn’t been released because it’s being put on the backburner for the November content.
Seriously…stop focusing on seasonal events and fix the kitten story quest. How do you take 2+ weeks to fix the main part of your game?
because from what jeff said, they apparently are very “thorough” with their testing. I’m starting to actually wonder if it’s being thorough, or just putting it on the backburner while they push out more holiday content.
Welp it’s the 5th and still no patch to fix the issue. As a result, I’ve just given up an stopped playing the game until it’s fixed. Honestly I’m very disappointed in Anet and their ability to prioritize patches. I would have hoped that by now common sense would have prevailed and they would have realized that perhaps it’s best to push this patch to the top of the “fix now” list. Nope, instead it seems they’re more concerned with yet another seasonal event update instead of fixing their CORE game.
already level 80, but personal story still 45 cause of “the hatchery bug”, heard that there will be a fix on 5 Nov., but nothing!!! when will it be fix?????/
Well, its only just barely the 5th in some parts of the world …maybe give it some time?
I wouldn’t count on it. There is a major possibility that now they’re going to wait until the 15th till patching this game breaking issue.
I just find this very hard to believe that they’re actually more concerned with releasing holiday content instead of working on Core Game problems. But instead, I’m seeing it with my own eyes they’re actually more worried about more holiday content. How am I going to enjoy your bonus content if I can’t even enjoy the core content?

It’s not that we aren’t inform Jeff, it’s just we’re finding it beyound unreasonable that it’s been almost a month that this bug has been allowed to stay live without some form of fix. I can understand that it takes time for a patch to be released, however your team could have done something temporarily to keep more people from running into this bug. Such as for example, not allowing the option to help the Skritt temporarily. Instead, it seems the team decided “Meh, who cares just work on the event patches, noone will care about the storyline”. And, it doesn’t help us when you have people locking down threads so people could no longer discuss the issue.
Thanks, it worked.
Np man glad to have helped.
Hmm, you say you tried sending someone a mail…and they never got it. Ask your friends to delete some of their old mail, it could be that their inboxes are full. I’ve had this happen to me on multiple occasions with someone sending me an item and I never got it. When I deleted my old mail it instantly came through.
Not a problem man, glad to have helped. Just make sure before you delete those gold spammer mails to report them first, that way not only do you remove the mail, but you get them banned.
For all we know the fix to this problem could be gargantuan which would justify putting it in the next content update, but locking the previous thread isn’t going to make everyone forget that this problem is still going on. Now instead of having one very large thread, they are going to have a million small ones and if these get locked more will show up. Basically when one falls, two shall rise in its place lol
While I agree that this patch could be very large and would take time, the only problem is this. They already have the patch ready to go out. Jeff has explained in other threads that he’s already submitted the patch that would fix the story mission. The only problem is that QA has yet to release the patch. Now it would be great if they would release it on 11/5/12. However, they’re waiting to release it on the 15th of November. That’s over a month that they’ve known this game breaking bug has been in the game, yet they’ve sat on it for that long.
I know this sounds stupid but have you tried deleting some of your old in game mail? You only have a limited amount of space in your mail and I’ve found that by deleting some of my old mail, I got a flood of new mail.
Thank you Jeffrey Vaughn for on multiple occasions having calmly and to the point explained the situation. I hope that you and the rest of the designers can see the compliment in so many people going nuts for your story line!
Also, could you thank the team for all your hard work? I am really looking forward to when you are comfortable with and capable of applying the fix to the live servers!
I’ll thank them when they fix it. Until then I’ll continue to express my disappointment in a mature manner. I’m beyond understanding the need to take time to make sure a patch is as bug free a possible. HOWEVER, when you tell me that since 10/9/12 this bug has been around, and the fact now the patch won’t go live until 11/15/12, I don’t question your ability to do your job, I question your companies ability to prioritize what’s important. If I had a choice between fixing a core game problem that actually keeps people from continuing the game’s core story or work on another event content patch, I’m going with the earlier. Why? because I don’t want a large number of my customer base growing restless for what’s been over a month of not able to continue on with the saga of the guild wars 2 story line. That’s like you bringing a car into my shop saying that the alternator has gone bad. Instead of fixing the alternator so your car can run again, I give you some really swanky new chrome bumpers and a paint job. hey….your car doesn’t run, but isn’t it awesome looking now?!
I was so happy to hear that it’d be fixed 5th of November.
But now it’s 15th of November. :lNow I think I’ll just start all over again… * Sighs *
Now see, this right here is why most people, including myself are beyond frustrated. You mean to tell me it takes less than a week to fix bugs and issues with the Halloween event, yet you’re telling me it’s going to take more than a month to implement the fix for a story line bug? I find that very hard to believe, in fact I’m now believing that Anet now cares first about pushing out content before fixing the content that’s already live. There is no justification in taking this long to release a patch that’s already been confirmed to be completed unless you’re having your QA team busy on the upcomming November event first.
i for one done get that one the 3 toons i lvl’d just enough to get the initial of the 3 groups done my 80 however did get all his story done, the ele 45 is in mid of her quest she went whispers, and then i get to the mesmer, i love lvling it, but i get to this story and boom bugged cant advance, i am not lvl 60 and stil not fixed, do i have to be 80 to complete?
story quests are part of what makes this mmo great i think and when they dont work then well the drive to lvl is really hard, ac3 came out and halo 4 comes monday and honestly with bugs like this and games like those makes me just not want to play GW2
I know, it’s a tad depressing isn’t it? I really love so far the order of whispers story line. And the fact that I can’t continue with it is because of a month long bug that they still haven’t considered “patching” despite the fact the QA staff have the fix, makes me a bit…….frustrated to say the least.
I know this is an MMO, but I actually like the single-player-ish PVE stuff best. Without the missions, this game slowly turns into a grindfest (events get old fast). I like my current character and don’t feel like restarting (it’s a lot of work). So I’ve stopped playing until the fix comes up.
There’s probably a not-insignificant number of others out there who feel the same way as me. You will probably lose a few customers if they are still unable to play after the Nov. 5 update. If your players are physically unable to complete your game, then it is BY DEFINITION an incomplete game. Your QA people have had almost a month to solve this issue. If they wasted all of that time testing gimmicky Halloween content, there is a serious disconnect between your company and its player base.
The thing is, the QA HAVE the fix. The fix has been sent out more than a week ago to them. They just haven’t wanted to release it yet. Apparently they’ve been too busy with the next “event” to focus on actually testing a patch that would fix the CORE game. You know, so that we could actually have a game that worked. And yes, I agree also that the company seems to have very little connection between themselves and the player community. If they did, they would realize people would like to actually play a working game and not a game like cheetahmen 2 where you can’t physically finish the thing.
I’m honestly confused as to why the patch hasn’t gone through. This bug is a pretty big deal, and Jeff already did his part by fixing the issue and getting it ready to patch… so why has it vanished? This is not a small issue we’re talking about here, and patch was ready DAYS ago, so what purpose is there in forcing us to wait until November 15th to be able to progress past our story line. It just seems to me a little odd. ESPECIALLY considering we saw fixes to WvW, other story quests and a handful of other things just 2 days ago.
I would really like to see this issue taken more seriously. I honestly felt my faith in Arenanet slip a bit when I saw the previous post closed. We’re told what… it’ll be patched when it’s patched, get over it and wait? And oh, btw, we’re tired of listening to you whine so we’re just gonna shut this conversation down? That really changed my view of Arenanet as a whole.
I really hope whoever is holding this patch up starts to take this issue just a tad bit more seriously. A month will have been a long time to wait to be able to continue our main character’s story arcs…
Tolmos, the reason it’s being held up is because apparently the Q and A team is the reason. Jeff say’s they go through extensive testing to make sure each patch will not only work, but also not cause other major issues with the game. HOWEVER, I don’t believe it takes a month to actually test a patch to make sure it works. What do I think happened? They where too busy with their halloween event that they didn’t get around to testing the patch. Do I think that’s right? No, you take care of your core game before you ever consider working out the bugs to a temporary event. If this doesn’t patch via November 5th update, I’m not only going to be very disappointed, but not surprised if people actually stop playing the game all together. I know part of me doesn’t want to play the game cause honestly, I really want to continue on with the story without leveling up to 80 and be stuck at a lvl 45 story quest. However I doubt the team is even bothering to read these posts as they seem more interested in the November 15th event.
I play a thief. Anytime I damage an enemy (Unless its caltrops), I become unstealthed for 3 seconds. What damage can I do while in stealth that keeps me stealthed other than caltrops?
Also, a stealthed individual can still be hit. AoE dmg keeps a thief away. I haven’t noticed a bug or a class breaking problem. The only possible advantage is stealthed takedowns.
I was about to say that with my engineer I don’t seem to have any problems hitting thieves when I whip out ole matilda (flamethrower) and start blanketing the area with liquid napalm goodness…..seems to draw em out pretty well
I don’t blame jeff because he does his job, he actually did come up with the fix to the bug. However once he sent it over it’s being withheld until a MAJOR update.
Count me as one of the many players who can’t complete their story line. I have patience mind you, however my patience is running thing as this has been nearly a month without any solution. What makes it worse is that they have the fix and yet still wish not to implement it yet.
So Jeffrey let me see if I understand this, You’re telling me that NOW..there is a chance the fix that, HAS BEEN ALREADY MADE, will NOT be pushed in the November 5th patch. If that is the case, then WHAT sort of prioritization is followed in Anet? I would think that a major priority would be to keep the CORE game functional and able to be played fully. I’ve been very patient for the last two weeks and thought perhaps that maybe Anet was very busy and probably the fix was still not “working” in development. But, after reading finally the forums and seeing that not only has it been fixed, but is on the back burner, I have to stop and think if maybe this “priority” list that Anet has is not based on what’s best for players and instead “what’s best for the company”. I’m sorry if that seems inflammatory, however judging by the posts made from many frustrated players in the threads, And on the information given by you sir on this issue, I have to simply use my logic and point to the later decision. Now will I rage and say “I’m quitting!”? Oh of course not, despite this I’m sure I can find other things to tide me over until this fix is implemented live. However, I can’t say the same for many others who are having this exact same problem.
I’ve been very patient and can realize how sometimes it takes a certain amount of time to fix gamebreaking issues. However, when you’re putting out constant bug fixes for seasonal events and still let the GAMEBREAKING bug sit on the back burner, then I become a irritated. Arenanet needs to learn prioritization when it comes to their “fixes”. You fix the core game issues first BEFORE you start working on expansion fixes. How am I to enjoy the game’s story line if I can’t even FINISH the game’s story line due to coding error?
