Ranger Changes - Lost Shores Update

Rangers are included in this patch note finally. Aren’t you thankful? Though it would be nice if we can receive more fixes on icons and skill descriptions. That would be worth of another 30 bullet points. Would look good on Jon’s “Done List” too. Such a win-win.

But what’s the point of giving constructive feedback? Couldn’t you see on this forum that there are already tons of thoughtful and constructive ideas on how the rangers can be fixed, yet we received 16 bullet points of almost nothing?
Fundamental bugs [e.g. 1H Sword root] didn’t get fixed. All we got is the harpoon gun buff?!

What’s the point of giving constructive feedback?

What’s the point in being so negative? What’s the alternative: whine and threaten designers? No thank you. As I stated, I have a vested interest in seeing the Ranger class improve. While changes didn’t happen this patch, this does not mean changes won’t happen in the future. I believe if we discuss point in a constructive, positive way, we as players can help give developers a new perspective and ideas that they can hopefully play with.

You haven’t been reading this forum if you think more constructive feedback is needed. Can’t you see there are tons of them here already? And what have we got so far? When pleas don’t work, you try to protest. It’s that simple.

Well instead of typing another 5000 words of constructive ideas of yours, which are likely mentioned and emphasized 100 times, why not go through all the constructive ideas already on this forum, and compile them into an organized list. Then let’s see how long will that list be. And how much progress we have got so far.

I’m sure that will be more constructive than telling people to be constructive and repeating all the ignored constructive ideas.

(Edit: See how constructive your thread is? It even got merged.)

Huge greatsword buff

I wouldn’t use the word “huge”. Just “neat” at best.

GS’s damage is more like a butter knife anyway. Well but I love the animations.

This better not be:
1.-13. bug fixes
14. spirit HP increased by 20%
15. pet HP increased by 10%
16. weapons attack increased by 3%.

But hey anything is possible…

Wow I made this stupid post a few days ago out of sarcasm.
Can’t believe it’s actually better than the current updates we received. JP never fails to surprise and disappoint.

I would like to see buff and fixes on the weapons which are totally underpowered. And pets being more responsive. And spirits don’t get one shot.

I also remembered that post and the anticipation I’ve got.
Well but the game seems far from well polished for now. So I don’t think they would put any resources on it until other aspects are done.

Condition damage needs to be viable in PvE.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ocfallwind.4821

ocfallwind.4821

Every time this gets brought up, I wonder why, given the rules of the game, why are these players attempting condition builds for pve in the first place?

They have their place in pvp. Confusion in particular is wicked awful to a player.

But these complaints don’t make sense to me. The rules are clear. Don’t attempt these builds.

There’s plenty of builds that totally suck for one of the types of gameplay. To a dev, that may or may not mean they should revise the rules.

To a player, it means you shouldn’t run that build.

So in other words, Scepters and Torches are PvP weapons for Mesmers? That is just terrible game design. Also, I quite enjoy DoT damage than direct damage, but right now it is absolutely terrible in PvE.

Justify that with the observation that a lot of weapon combos and builds are strictly PvE.

Is it terrible game design? There’s a lot of GW2 that is poorly done, but this part I think is fine. It is good game design because it’s giving you outrageously powerful pvp capability on some sets. On different sets you have very strong pve capability.

My guardian’s bunker-build is useless for pve, too. So… I don’t run it in pve.

Your job as a player is to select the right tool for the job. Scepter torch ain’t it.

Because it’s not just about one build, or several builds. “Conditions” is a game mechanism. When one game mechanism doesn’t work well on a game mode, it has to be looked into.

Asura Gates: Indication of destinations?

in Suggestions

Posted by: ocfallwind.4821

ocfallwind.4821

Sorry if it has been raised out before or the option is actually available already. I would like to know if it is possible to make the destination of an asura gate easier to see?

Like when I mouse over an asura gate icon on the map, it only says “asura gate” instead of saying where does that gate lead to.
Same when I am standing near them. I actually have to walk very close to it for the yellow words to appear and show its destination.

So far there aren’t too many destinations the asura gates can lead to and probably many people are familiarized with them already. But think it would be more convenient.

Why does Anet start an event on Friday?

How about repeating the event a few times a day? Like the festival finales in GW1. You can take part in it no matter which part of the world you are at.

No way class change should be allowed. If you can’t wait for another character to get to LVL80, just pay a fortune to craft.

Cost of waypoints [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ocfallwind.4821

ocfallwind.4821

For topics like this there are always people suggesting what to do to cover the teleport cost and think it’s not a problem. But IMHO if there aren’t any problems, there is no need for suggestions right?

Because if you have to actively do something to compensate the charge, it means the charge is significant, which contradicts the dev’s purpose as of “paying a small fee to use waypoints”.

So how much is too much? I guess it should be proportional to the normal money you receive for doing an event or selling your loot. When an event at L80 still pays you less than 2s, and one piece of loot only give you less than 1s, the teleport fee of over 1s is too high for me, at least when I only wanna travel in the same map.

Some people said cheap teleport will discourage exloring. But don’t you think exploring should be encouraged more to lower level players, when they haven’t seen much of the area? When you got to L80 and have covered a certain amount of the map, it’s not longer about exploring.

Well but that’s only my 2 cents. Seems that the majority is fine with the current waypoint cost.

I am just wondering how is it like for GW1.

I mean were there also a lots of bugs for some professions and those bugs didn’t get fixed after a few months post launch? While there were still balance fixes? As I joined the game since Nightfall I didn’t know too much about the bug situation.

I surely hope it would get better for GW2. And I agree that fixing bugs should be done before balancing. It seem to be easier to start as players already help them compile a list…

Just wonder why couldn’t they give us a specific time. Is it like they are not sure when will they be ready for it, so they have to push it as late as possible?
It’s only a 24 hour timeframe thing (by 22nd Oct). Does that remind you of our school days? Desperately doing what we can to finish the project before deadline. We couldn’t tell when can we finish it, except that we had to finish it before deadline.
I am starting to worry about ANet’s capability. Since launch everything is like out of their control and overwhelming them.

I still remember the good old days of X/Rt on GW1. LOL. Everyone can be a spirit summoner and being an SOS Ritualist can benefit everyone in some way.

Well also the fact that all professions could have pets too.

But as far as I made use of the powerful SOS for all my professions, I don’t really like how it blurs the profession significance.

I love the way it is on GW2. Every profession IS different from each other. I am a ranger so pets are exclusive to me. I am a mesmer so illusions are exclusive to me.

Not to mention the balance between different professions.

open pvp in pve - let players fix the bot problem since anet cant/wont

That would totally ruin the game. Imagine people ganging up on someone due to previous grudge or even randomly.

How to define who/when/where can players be killed by others? It would only create a worse mess than now.

Abuse the report function as a threat?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ocfallwind.4821

ocfallwind.4821

To confirm, it’s not against the rules to accuse someone who turns out to be innocent, just to accuse them when you know it’s not true.

I don’t want anyone to be afraid of reporting bots, etc in case they are wrong and get punished.

:)

Well let’s say we should all be more careful when using the report function. Apparently botting is not the only reports ANet has to deal with, and so we shouldn’t intentionally increase their workload. (Not to mention to do it for making your guildmate slow down in a zerg group.)

And yes. That IS a threat. Just becoz ANet doesn’t perform instant response, doesn’t mean such action has no significance.

I will talk to my friend for more details, and most importantly remind him to use screencap from now on when encountering situation like this.

So glad to know that it’s actually not alright and not a common practice.

Abuse the report function as a threat?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ocfallwind.4821

So me and my friend are in this guild which the leader always likes to gather guild members to form zerg group for map exploration.

My friend told me that a few days ago he joined in one and having fun as usual.
Then suddenly the guild leader told everyone to slow down. My friend wasn’t paying much attention to the guild channel and probably ignored that order.

Then he received a PM from the guild leader saying “Slow down or I’ll report you as botting”. My friend wasn’t quite fond of that threat and just quit the game (w/o screencapping the dialogue). I feel quite bad about that, especially when it’s me who asked my friend to join this guild. I would probably look for a better guild for both of us.

I know it’s probably normal that guild leaders make members do anything they request. But it’s obvious that my friend isn’t botting as he could join in and follow a zerg group.

So is it actually OK to use “report as botting” as a threat? Any thoughts people? :\

Why did you choose to play a Ranger?

in Ranger

Posted by: ocfallwind.4821

ocfallwind.4821

Ranger is always my first choice in almost every game with such a class. I love the bows, pets and “natural style”. With that said, I will still love my ranger in GW2, even if his skills and pets are just meh. But that doesn’t mean I’m happy with whatever unnecessary/unreasonable nerf they put on this profession.

Simply put, my love in the ranger profession and my despise on how it gets nerfed don’t really contradict.

What’s more bizarre is if it really is 0.04s as they repeatedly claimed, it wouldn’t be noticeable.
Well I admit it isn’t too obvious (at least visually) until QZ is active. Or is QZ actually the broken skill after this update?

Ranger SB Nerf: Not 40 milliseconds

ocfallwind.4821

Just becoz players love the game doesn’t mean they are blind or intellectually challenged.

How can someone “spam” a primary, auto attack? It’s like saying “Stop using this weapon. Its primary attack isn’t fun”.
How is fixing a graphical glitch affects damage legitimate?
How is 0.04s or even 0.08s (with QZ) noticeable with human eyes?

It’s pretty straightforward: STOP LYING TO PLAYERS. Just becoz we love the game doesn’t mean we are blind or intellectually challenged. Don’t insult us and your integrity as well. You are speaking on behalf of your company you know?

If you are gonna nerf something and ignore what players think anyway, at least lay it out honestly, like a man.

Using custom playlist, can not hear GW2 music

in Audio

Posted by: ocfallwind.4821

ocfallwind.4821

Totally agree with the OP.
IMHO it would be perfect if the customized playlist has the following functions:

1. Mix our custom music with the original game music as the OP mentioned
2. Make them play in random order
3. Normalize volume
4. Little crossfade between tracks

1 and 2 would be essential and 3 and 4 would be a bonus.
(Some people mentioned different playlists at different zones. But I would be happy with the 4 functions above. lol)
