run a memtest, to rule out memory. you’re having some interesting issues which seem to point out general failure (not game failure). Blame it on the game if you want, but since it’s only happening on your computer they seem pretty innocent so far (but that can’t be confirmed).
And you say you did a full uninstall… but did you use a third party tool? This is a common mistake. The uninstall option from control panel IS NOT ENOUGH in many cases. My process is the following:
1. uninstall CCC in the control panel
2. reboot in safe mode
3. run driversweeper
4. run ccleaner
5. reboot
6. install new driver
if you still have issues after that, we can conclude it’s not a corrupted video driver. but if all you’ve done is uninstall from the control panel that’s just not enough.
try switching out fire III for fire I. you will probably keep him burned pretty often anyway, so you’ll only lose a small portion of you DPS there.
then, when you’re about to die, make sure you do it on top of him. The font plus your 33% damage increase should easily kill him if you’re getting that close. I highly doubt the font would do enough damage to kill one of the other oozes before you kill subject 7.
also I don’t think we should be confusing rewarding players who play continuously with punishing players who don’t. They’re not the same. Just because we don’t get rewards while we don’t play doesn’t mean we’re punished, we’re just not rewarded.
I’m in the same boat as OP, I was on almost a year long hiatus and I’m back and loving it, but I missed almost the entire LS. That sucks, but I don’t feel punished. I think they should do a mixture of permanent and temporary content, and it does look like that’s the direction they’ll go with season 2, so you won’t hear complaints from me.
this could be a driver issue… did you do a full clean of your previous driver install (for the 4870) before installing the drivers for the 290? There are many utilities on the net to help clean up driver installs, as the uninstall programs are notoriously bad and often cause issues during driver upgrade/updates.
After doing a full clean reinstall of your drivers, if you still have the issues I would start removing all peripherals to ensure they don’t cause the problem. Try reinstalling sound drivers or changing sound settings, as sometimes issues come from them.
Once exhausting all those possibilities, your best bet would be an OS reinstall, though you may consider hardware failure in your harddisk or your RAM (run tests on these if you make it this far).
Sorry I can’t be more specific, there are too many possible causes. Hope that helps at least somewhat.
I have several questions regarding some advice in this thread.
Multiple people stated you should just run in and hit one of the bosses a few time if you want credit, but don’t contribute to the zerg.
Question 1: How much do you have to hit them? It seems buggy, because I’ve killed the bosses before and ended up with no reward for the blitz, so that’s concerning. But if you only have to hit them a few times until you qualify (though may still get bugged reward), that’d be really good to know.
Question 2: If I do hit them a few times, can I do the guantlet and still get the reward? I’ve participated several times then gone to the guantlet and ended up with nothing. Seems dumb if I have to sit at the stupid waypoint while everyone finishes.
Question 3: Why does this work? Other people in this thread say the bosses scale up but never down again. Wouldn’t me hitting the boss a few times contribute to their scaling up, and me leaving just result in a higher scale boss without me contributing DPS?
Thanks everyone, I really wanna do more guantlets but I’ve been having issues getting rewards or just becoming part of the problem.
my concern would be that this would cause a lot of players to not even play new content as it arrives, as they may have stocked up tokens from previous events. This would effectively take the upper class of players out of future events much earlier than they would be if they had to play the content to earn the rewards each time.
that said, I’d be happy with this change for selfish reasons, since I often have commitments
hey I’ve known guild wars to actually be one of the more difficult games from graphics cards (not FPS-wise). My laptop had dual 7970ms running in crossfire that could handle any game without any issues, and temperatures were usually normal, though guild wars could always crash my system (and more often in predictable places).
Recently, my master GPU in that system has died, and though it’s not certain, you might consider that this is a sign that it’s the beginning of the end for that card. For me the first game to show issues was guild wars, and eventually I saw issues in other games like skyrim, and finally I even saw issues with garbled post text before it eventually died altogether.
hopefully this isn’t your case, definitely try updating your graphics driver first and reevaluating all your connections.
So I have done the boss blitz many times now, and I have some serious issues with the rewards (no this is not a loot problem thread).
The issue being in the huge time it takes to complete depending on the organization in your map. I know I could just search for another one, but if I stick it out, I should still be rewarded. Multiple times yesterday I spent about an hour on the event, one time at the end I had to go somewhere (and bring my laptop with me), so I was desperately hoping the last boss would die before I had to go. 1 boss left, 20% hp. Zerg at full force I was screwed, and eventually had to power down without finishing, after spending more than an hour.
I feel like the system could still give me the reward when I log in later, but instead I wasted time for nothing, let alone that they removed loot from all the bosses and enemies, so I literally got nothing the whole time.
My second issue is more of a question… what do I have to do to get the final reward? I’ve gotten it many times, but othertimes not. One time I killed piroxis and got gold event for killing piroxis, and followed the commanders orders to not participate in further boss battles. The end result being? no reward when boss blitz ended. Another time I fought boom boom at the end for half an hour with the zerg, got gold for killing boom boom, but no boss blitz bonus.
I actually enjoy this new content (new to me as I took a year long break from the game and missed this the first time around), but it can be extremely frustrating when on multiple occassions I have lost all rewards for a large investment in time for mostly unpredictable reasons.
So I seriously think something should be done to improve the contribution calculation in this event, since it discourages zerging, but zerging all the bosses seems to be the only way to ensure I get the bonus at the end. What am I doing wrong?
no. according to the wiki there are 513 waypoints and 723 points of interest.
points of interest give a maximum of 1.5% of a level (if the poi is at your level, which would not be the case when repeating low level zones), and waypoints give a maximum of 2.5% of your level.
with those totals, you’ll get about 23.67 levels. You should also consider there are areas too, which give a max of 1% of a level when discovered, but considering there are less of those than poi (but I couldn’t find the number) you should only expect maybe a few more levels in the best case scenario. Maybe optimistically rounding to 30 levels. Some zones would be incredibly hard to scout given you’d be 50 levels underleveled, though they would give higher xp since the rewards are for the level of the zone.
either way, I’d say this isn’t something that can be accomplished.
sure, realism isn’t key, but I do believe there are lines that you shouldn’t cross, and saying one guy should be able to kill 2-4 people when running into a group of 50 is the line for me.
providing major consequences to losing caravans/keeps/etc could reduce zerging without unbalancing group play.
my personal opinion is this would cause issues. mainly, you’d need to really think about all aoe attacks to make sure you can hit/target all enemies in the area, which would really slow you down or limit your potential.
Also, it may solve the issue you propose, but it will create a new one, and a very unrealistic one at that. One guy being able to randomly run into an entire zerg and just surviving and fighting there? You may like that idea but to me it seems ridiculous. If you run into a huge group of enemies you really should be annihilated.
you asked for us to suggest a better idea, but I’m sorry to say I don’t have one. I would say I prefer the system as it is though, because at least it’s realistic. Maybe providing real consequences for losing strategic points and supplies would be good enough. If you zerg you can’t defend everything, and if there are real consequences people might form into groups to defend or make quick attacks on other areas. That’s my best idea.

ok, thanks.
Regardless, please help. If someone knows how to fix this or at least reduce the rate of occurrence I would be very grateful!

I should add that no errors are logged in the windows Event Viewer and that a blue screen wasn’t registered by windows (which would be expected if this is a driver crash).

I have a similar issue. I just started playing this game, but I have full system crashes (not limited to Norn starter area, as I have only been in the Human starter area).
I monitor my GPU temperatures and they are fine (also CPU temps).
The game will play for some time, then it will go black and the music will keep playing for a moment, but then it will start looping rapidly (depending on the sound playing it could sound like ticking, for example). It will stay like this forever until I do a hard reboot. It does not response to ctrl-alt-del for example.
My Specs:
i7 3820m default clocks
CrossfireX 7970m (2 cards)
16 GB RAM @ 1600 MHz
This is horrible, please help, as sometimes the crashes are only 15 minutes separated. Sometimes it has been a few hours, other times minutes. I can play other games (Skyrim, Crysis, Mount & Blade: Warband, Civilization 5, Fallout 1-3, Metro 2033) without any issues besides a few games having crossfire jittering.
I can confirm crashes with the 12.8 and the 12.10 drivers with their respective CAP files.
